Art in a cup
At a café, a staff carefully pours milk into a cup of coffee. With a few quick movements to mix and stir, a picture slowly appears on the smooth brown 34 . People come closer, take photos and enjoy the little artwork in the cup.
Today, many people enjoy such beautiful pictures made on top of coffee. But did you know that making art in tea cups began much 35 ? In fact, it started in China centuries ago as a traditional practice called Dian Cha (点茶).
Rise of the culture
Tea culture began to grow in the Tang Dynasty (618-907). In the Song Dynasty (960-1279), tea was part of the life for almost everyone. A famous poet, Wang Anshi, even said that tea was as important as rice, oil, and salt. Dian Cha was invented and developed during this period. Later, this practice 36 to other parts of East Asia including Japan.
Dancing water and powdered (研成粉末的) leaves
The work is not simple. First, hot water was poured over fine powdered tea to make a paste (茶糊). Then, more hot water was added slowly. At the same time, the tea was beaten quickly with a bamboo stick. 37 , the water and tea mixed together, creating a fine foam (泡沫) on the top. Then the maker can draw pictures on the top. The process takes about ten minutes, and the tea should be around 40℃ when ready to drink.
The key is 38 and strength. Usually, one needs to beat the tea between 180 and 200 times before the foam appears. It is careful work but must be done quickly, or the foam will clear away.
Dian Cha: A moment’s art, a 39 message
It often takes a year of practice to learn the skill. However, the beautiful designs do not remain forever. They usually vanish within an hour. Still, Dian Cha shows the wisdom of Chinese tea culture. Today, even though our ways of drinking tea have changed, the spirit of Dian Cha lives on. Its values and traditions can still influence generation after generation.

Seba Stephens is only 10 years old, but he’s a very talented musician. He plays the drums, bass, guitar, and piano.
Seba grew up with music all around. Before he turned three, his parents asked him what he wanted for his birthday. “Drums!” he answered. His parents weren’t sure, but after seeing him play the drums at a local music store, they decided he was serious. They bought him a junior drum kit (成套的架子鼓). “He didn’t stop playing—ever,” says his dad.
But two months later, Seba grew upset. He couldn’t make the sounds he wanted with his junior drum kit. His parents bought him a professional drum kit and signed him up for lessons. In just a few months, his drum teacher reported that Seba was learning extremely quickly and needed a higher level of training. He was still four.
Seba started a band in kindergarten. In the first grade, he began earning money by playing music.
In 2020, Seba joined a summer music program at Berklee College of Music (伯克利音乐学院) as an 8-year-old boy. He studied bass in an online program. To keep up, he had to practice up to 36 hours a week.
After the busy summer, Seba made a decision to be home-schooled (to be educated at home instead of being sent to school) by his parents so that he could keep going to Berklee during the school year. He did schoolwork in the mornings. In the afternoons he worked on music. And at night he usually worked on music some more.
In May, 2021, Seba became the youngest person ever to receive a professional certificate from Berklee. The certificate is equal to about four college-level classes.

C. Read the passage and answer the following questions.(每题2分,共12分)
Answer the questions (根据短文内容,回答下列问题)
When he’s old enough, Seba hopes to go to college at Berklee. For now, he’s still practicing and playing.
40.Seba is a talented musician, isn’t he?
41.What did Seba want for his third birthday?
