Raise your hands, please. Wow, there are a lot of hands. Doctors recommend that teens get at least eight to ten hours of sleep each night. However, in practice, many teens struggle to make IT. This is often due to a conflict between nature and modern life. During our teenage years, our body clocks tend to move forward. This natural change makes us want to go to sleep and wake up much later. However, as society usually demands we get up early, the key is finding a way to fall asleep earlier. Later on in the lesson will be talking about how stress and screen addiction can also impact our sleep. But first we're going to study the ten, three, two, one sleep role. This means that ten hours before bed, you stop drinking tea, coffee and other energy drinks. Your last meal of the day should be at least three hours before bed. Homework and other work should be completed at least two hours before bed. One hour before bed, you shut off all screens. These tips will help ready your body for sleep and help you drop off to sleep much more quickly. Good morning, everyone. It's time for our weekly health class. A new trend called “praise groups” or “in-need-of-praise” chat groups has become popular on Chinese social media. In Chinese culture, where modesty (谦逊) is valued, openly seeking and giving praise is uncommon. These chat groups provide a platform for people to receive compliments (赞扬) and encouragement, which are often lacking in their daily lives.
To join a praise group, users can pay a fee on e-commerce sites, starting at 50 yuan for five minutes of compliments. The group members will then show the person with praises and kind words. The compliments can be designed for a friend or loved one as well. Participants have found that being praised by strangers can help lift their spirits and improve their self-confidence.
For example, Meng Zha, a student at Shanghai’s Tongji University, tried the service and found it amusing and uplifting. She received compliments on her appearance and even quotes (引用) from popular songs. Ms Meng couldn’t help but laugh at the compliments and expressed her desire to post such high- quality praises in the future.
Praise groups have appeared as a way for people in China to seek and receive compliments and encouragement that may be lacking in their daily lives. It provides a positive and uplifting experience for participants, improving a sense of happiness and self-worth.
Those who support the groups, see them as an antidote to extremely bad moods (情绪) which are often associated with things happening on the Internet. “At first, the purpose of this group is to make us learn to praise others and accept others’ praises confidently. Here we can drop everything, and use our heart to praise and support others,” one member said. But the life journey is long and there are some unexpected situations that we can only count on ourselves to face when there is no one out there to offer help.
24. What is the purpose of praise groups?
A. To make praise popular. B. To have everyone supported.
C. To share common interests. D. To give people hope and happiness.

A. A kind of medicine. B. A way of making new friends.
C. A method of being confident. D. The wisdom of solving problems.
27. What is the author’s attitude to praise groups?
A. Critical. B. Objective. C. Supportive. D. Indifferent.

Sia Godika was 13 when she noticed the barefoot (光脚的) children of construction workers at a building site near her house in Bengalure, India. “Their feet were bare, dirty and bleeding,” reflects Sia, “They were just walking around that building site like it was an everyday practice for them.” And it was in that moment that Sia realized how lucky she herself was.
She went back home and opened her closet doors, seeing shoes piled up high. She headed to her mother’s closet next, literally dusting off spiderwebs from some shoes. Then she rushed to give them all away to the barefoot children.
Later that year, with the help of her parents, Sia founded Sole (鞋底;脚掌) Warriors, a charity organization, with the motto “Donate a sole, save a soul”. Telephone calls from people who wanted to help came flooding in. For months, Sia stayed up till 2 a.m., contacting people and dealing with related affairs. Now in its fifth year, the organization collects used footwear, repairs it and donates the finished products to people in need. In its first campaign, Sole Warriors gave out 700 pairs of shoes. Today that number stands at around 28, 000, thanks to the hard work of a team of about 80 volunteers.
But the organization’s growth wasn’t without its challenges. When Sia was trying to find a company which was willing to repair and clean up the worn-out shoes free of charge, she faced one difficulty after another before finding India’s Pressto Cobler that would join her in the effort. “Being a 13-year-old, I did face a lot of bias because at my age, people were less willing to hear me out,” says Sia.
In honor of her impact, in 2021 Sia was given the Diana Award, one of the greatest honours a young person can receive for social work. But her work isn’t done. “Our goal has always been to touch a million feet,” she says.
28. What can be inferred from the underlined part?
A. There were various shoes in the closet.
B. Sia’s home is not regularly cleaned.
C. The shoes hadn’t been worn for a long time.
D. Her mother’s closet was covered with dust.
29. Why did Sia set up Sole Warriors?
A. To help repair some used shoes.
B. To provide free shoes for those in need.
C. To gain experience in leading a project.
D. To encourage people to buy only what they need.
30. What challenge did Sia face in running the organization?
A. The running costs were too high.
B. She had difficulty finding a partner.
C. Few people would donate shoes.
D. Communicating ability prevented her.
31. What is the best title for the text?
A. Clothes do not make the man. B. Learn to walk before you run.
C. Walk in someone else’s shoes. D. Life without difficulties is too dull.
D
More than 20 species (物种) of bird around the world use a similar “whining” alarm call to warn that birds like cuckoos, or brood parasites (寄生动物) that lay their eggs in the nests of other birds, are around. The call seems to be understood across species, and its use suggest how language may have originated.
Will Feeney at the Donana Biological Station in Spain and his colleagues have now found that 21 bird species, including superb fairy-wrens in Australasia, all use similar “whining” sounds when they see a brood parasite.
The researchers found that the species that produce this alarm call often live in areas where there are lots of brood parasites that make use of many different host species, and when the hosts hear the whining call, they attempt to scare them away with aggressive (攻击性的) physical mobbing. “It’s quite possible that the mobbing call aims to draw in other birds to participate in the mobbing,” says Rose Thorogood at the University of Helsinki in Finland.
To investigate further, Feeney and his colleagues played recordings of the calls made by brood-parasite hosts from other continents to host birds in Australia and China. They discovered that hearing the foreign warning calls brought out just as fast a mobbing response as hearing the calls produced by their own species. Feeney says this suggests there is an inborn part to the alarm calls that many bird species respond to, but birds in areas where brood parasites are common have changed the call and response to pass on knowledge of the local risk.
In 1871, Charles Darwin suggested that spoken language may have begun when humans and animals started copying and changing the sounds they made. “The birds adapting these inborn calls to another purpose could be the first stepping stone towards language,” says Feeney. “So, animal communication and human language are closely related, rather than ‘language’ being a uniquely human feature.”
32. What is true about the “whining” call?
A. It’s similar to human language. B. It’s used against host species.
C. It’s used for nest building. D. It warns against brood parasites.
33. What can be inferred from the mobbing behavior?
A. It helps recreate brood parasite sounds.
B. It gathers birds to drive away threats.
C. It warns other host species to stay away.
D. It allows communication with parasites.
34. What does the foreign call experiment show?
A. Birds only respond to local calls.
B. The mobbing response is learned quickly.
C. The response is inborn but locally adapted.
D. All such calls cause a similar reaction.
35. What is the main idea of the passage?
A. A shared alarm call in birds. B. The threat of brood parasites.
C. The development of language. D. Support for Darwin’s theory.

I never thought I had any natural talent when it came to music. Throughout my childhood, the fascinating world of music seemed like an impossible dream for me. I just showed no interest in singing songs or playing an instrument. However, my parents had a different plan for me. They insisted that I learn to play the piano when I was just six years old. Wanting to be a good daughter, I agreed to their wishes, even though deep down, I had no real interest in it. Never did I know that this decision would lead to an unexpected journey of self-discovery.
My piano teacher, Mrs. Johnson, was a kind and observant woman. She had a way of reading her students’ minds and understanding their true feelings. It didn’t take long for her to realize that my heart wasn’t fully absorbed in playing the piano. However, she continued to teach me patiently, hoping to stir a spark (火花) within me.
After about six months of lessons, Mrs. Johnson approached me with an unexpected request. She asked me to perform at the year-end concert she had organized for her students. I was surprised and terrified at the same time. The thought of playing in front of an audience was challenging, considering my lack of passion for the instrument. Nevertheless, I couldn’t refuse my teacher’s request, so I could only agree.
Given my limited experience, I decided to choose a fairly simple composition for the concert. In order to perform well, I practiced the same composition for an hour a day for the next two months, perfecting the notes (音符) and the rhythm. I wanted to ensure that, in spite of my doubts, I would at least be able to give a decent (体面的) performance.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;
The day of the concert arrived, and I woke up with a mixture of excitement and nervousness.

W: Good morning, everyone. It’s time for our weekly health class. How many of you feel tired all the time? Raise your hands, please. Wow, there are a lot of hands! Doctors recommend that teens get at least 8-10 hours of sleep each night. Later on in the lesson, we’ll be talking about how stress and screen addiction can also impact our sleep. But first, we’re going to study the 10-3-2-1 sleep rule. This means that ten hours before bed, you stop drinking tea, coffee, and other energy drinks. Your last meal of the day should be at least three hours before bed. Homework and other work should be completed at least two hours before bed. One hour before bed, you shut off all screens. These tips will help ready your body for sleep, and help you drop off to sleep much more quickly.

25. What can we learn about Meng Zha in paragraph 3?

26. What does the underlined word “antidote” mean in the last paragraph?

C 29. B 30. B 31. C

根据第二段中的“She headed to her mother’s closet next, literally dusting off spiderwebs from some shoes. (接着她走向母亲的壁橱,真的从一些鞋子上掸掉了蜘蛛网。)”可知,鞋子上有蜘蛛网,说明这些鞋子已经很久没有被穿过了。故选C项。
【29题详解】
细节理解题。根据第三段中的“Later that year, with the help of her parents, Sia founded Sole (鞋底;脚掌) Warriors, a charity organization, with the motto “Donate a sole, save a soul”. (那年晚些时候,在父母的帮助下,希亚创立了名为“鞋履勇士”的慈善组织,其座右铭是“捐赠一双鞋,拯救一颗心”。)”以及“Now in its fifth year, the organization collects used footwear, repairs it and donates the finished products to people in need. (如今该组织已成立五年,致力于收集废旧鞋履,经修复后将成品捐赠给有需要的人。)”可知,Sia成立这个组织的目的是为有需要的人提供免费的鞋子。故选B项。
【30题详解】
细节理解题。根据第四段中的“When Sia was trying to find a company which was willing to repair and clean up the worn-out shoes free of charge, she faced one difficulty after another before finding India’s Pressto Cobler that would join her in the effort.

D 33. B 34. C 35. A
根据第一段“More than 20 species (物种) of bird around the world use a similar “whining” alarm call to warn that birds like cuckoos, or brood parasites (寄生动物) that lay their eggs in the nests of other birds, are around. (世界上有超过20种鸟类使用相似的“哀鸣”警报声,来警示像杜鹃这样在其他鸟类巢中产卵的巢寄生动物就在附近)”可知,“哀鸣”声是用来警示巢寄生动物的。故选D项。
【33题详解】
推理判断题。根据第三段“when the hosts hear the whining call, they attempt to scare them away with aggressive (攻击性的) physical mobbing. “It’s quite possible that the mobbing call aims to draw in other birds to participate in the mobbing,” says Rose Thorogood at the University of Helsinki in Finland. (当宿主听到哀鸣声时,它们会试图用攻击性的群体围攻来吓跑它们。芬兰赫尔辛基大学的罗斯·索罗古德说:“群体围攻的叫声很可能是为了吸引其他鸟类参与围攻”)”可推断,群体围攻行为是为了聚集鸟类来驱赶威胁。故选B项。
【34题详解】
细节理解题。根据第四段“Feeney says this suggests there is an inborn part to the alarm calls that many bird species respond to, but birds in areas where brood parasites are common have changed the call and response to pass on knowledge of the local risk.
故选A项。

本文介绍了多个表 “事情很容易” 的英语习语,如 as easy as falling off a log 等,还讲解了 easy come, easy go 等相关易字习语的含义和用法。
根据上文“You might hear a student say to her friend that her spelling test was “as easy as falling off a log”.(你可能会听到某个学生对她的朋友说,她的拼写测试“就像从圆木上掉下来那么容易”)”以及后文“It is easier to fall off the log than to stay on it.(从圆木上摔下来要比一直站在上面要容易得多)”可知,前文解释短语“as easy as falling off a log”的含义,后文说“从圆木上摔下来比站在上面容易”,D选项“如果你试过在倒下的圆木上走,就会明白这个短语的意思”,衔接前后文,解释短语的字面由来,逻辑连贯。故选D。
根据后文“One is “as easy as pie”. Nothing is easier than eating a piece of sweet, juicy pie unless it is “a piece of cake”(一种表达是“就像吃一块馅饼那么容易”。除了“像吃一块蛋糕一样容易”之外,没有什么比吃一块香甜多汁的馅饼更简单的了)”可知,后文接连介绍“as easy as pie”、“a piece of cake”两个同义短语,B选项“还有几个其他表达也有同样的意思”,起到总起下文的作用,引出后续同类短语。故选B。

根据后文“It is hard to imagine why anyone would want to shoot fish in a barrel. But, clearly, fish in a barrel would be much easier to shoot than fish in a stream. In fact, it would be “as easy as falling off a log”.(很难理解为什么有人会想要去射杀装在桶里的鱼。但显然,装在桶里的鱼要比在溪流中游动的鱼更容易射杀。实际上,这简直就像从木头上掉下来一样简单)”可知,后文围绕“shoot fish in a barrel” 展开解释,A选项“另一个表达是 as easy as shooting fish in a barrel”,直接引出该短语,是后文的主题句。故选A。
根据上文“Sometimes, things that come to us easily also leave us just as easily. In fact, there is an expression — “easy come, easy go” — that recognizes this.(有时,那些轻易来到我们身边的东西,也会轻易地离我们而去。事实上,有一句谚语——“来得容易,去得也容易”——就反映了这种现象)”可知,前文解释“easy come, easy go”(来得容易去得快),G选项“你可能中彩票赢了很多钱,然后几天就花光了”,是对该短语的具体举例,贴合短语含义。故选G。
【40题详解】
根据上文“Another “easy” expression is to “go easy on a person”. It means to treat a person kindly or gently, especially in a situation where you might be expected to be angry with him.(另一个“简单”的表达是“对某人宽容些”。其含义是对待某人要友善或温和一些,尤其是在那种你本应对他发火的情况下)”可知,前文解释“go easy on a person”(对某人宽容、温和),E选项“妻子可能劝丈夫对儿子宽容点,因为男孩并非故意弄坏汽车”,是该短语的实际场景举例,完美呼应前文释义。故选E。

1. 你的观点(支持或反对);

Thank you!
Hello, everyone!
Recently, a British talent agency has officially announced that it will sign with an AI actor to shoot a movie. I personally regard this as a promising and exciting advance in the entertainment field.
Firstly, it shows the power of creativity and technology. AI actors, able to act very well, can perform in dangerous or physically impossible scenes with ease, ensuring safety while pushing creative boundaries. Meanwhile, they can significantly lower production costs and save time, making film-making more efficient and accessible to a wider range of creators.
In the future, I believe if used responsibly, AI actors can become valuable co-workers rather than replacements for human actors.
Thank you!
Hello, everyone!
The recent announcement about a British talent agency signing with an AI actor to shoot a movie has sparked much discussion. From my perspective, I am skeptical and concerned about this.
Firstly, acting is a deeply human art that relies on authentic emotion, life experience, and genuine connection with an audience-qualities that an AI, no matter how advanced, cannot truly possess. Its performance might seem technically perfect but emotionally hollow. Secondly, the rise of AI performers might threaten the livelihoods of many human actors, especially newcomers and those in supporting roles, potentially leading to job losses and reducing diversity in storytelling.
I sincerely hope the industry will prioritize and protect the irreplaceable value of human artists.
Thank you!

注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;
The day of the concert arrived, and I woke up with a mixture of excitement and nervousness.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
To my surprise, the music flowed smoothly from my fingertips.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
One possible version:
The day of the concert arrived, and I woke up with a mixture of excitement and nervousness. As I sat in the dressing room, waiting for my turn to perform, I couldn’t shake off the feeling of uncertainty that lingered in the back of my mind. What if I made a mistake and embarrassed myself in front of everyone? As the previous performer finished and the sound of applause echoed through the concert hall, Mrs. Johnson approached me with an encouraging smile. “You’ve worked hard for this moment,” she said softly. “Just go out there and let the music speak for you.” Her words resonated with me, and I took a deep breath, stepping onto the stage.
To my surprise, the music flowed smoothly from my fingertips. As I played the first few notes, a sense of confidence began to wash over me. It was as if I had unlocked a hidden talent within myself that I never knew existed. The melody danced through the air, and every keystroke became an expression of my emotions. I felt a connection between the piano and myself, as if we were communicating through the language of music. Mrs. Johnson watched from the side with a proud smile. In that moment, I realized that talent is not something innate, but something that can be nurtured and discovered through passion and perseverance.
