I grew up in the United States with a clear sense of what a“successful” science career should look like. I might not have admitted it openly, but I believed that the right pedigree(门第)——a well-known university, a famous Ph. D. program, a respected adviser—— was what determined whether someone would be taken seriously as a scientist.
But everything changed during my time as an exchange student in Denmark. Here, I fell in love.First with the beautiful country. Later, with a man who became my husband. The idea of returning to theU. S. to pursue a“big name” Ph. D. program felt less attractive. I began to consider staying in Denmark for a doctoral position that would allow me to build a life with someone I loved.I found myself focusing on how this choice might look on a resume. Would colleagues back home see a Danish Ph. D. as a step down? Would I be taken less seriously without North American training?Would I regret prioritizing my personal life over a more conventional path? Now, these anxieties seem funny. But at that time, they felt very real. In the end, I chose to stay.
As I started my academic life here, Danish culture began to transform my mindset. In the U. S.,scientists and doctors often enjoy a higher social standing than electricians. In Denmark, this distinction is far less pronounced.
In Denmark, I also discovered a new type of work culture: one that expects people to leave the office at a reasonable hour, and treats evenings and weekends as personal time. In the U. S., long hours are worn like badges of honor. But after my time in Denmark, that way of life no longer appeals to me.
Gradually, I have come to adopt the Danish perspective. I now see that the value of a scientific career isn't measured only by the institution on your graduation certificate, but by whether your work feels meaningful, whether you' re growing as a researcher, and whether you can sustain the initial curiosity.
24. What made the author choose to live in Denmark?
A. The pursuit of science. B. The influence of love.
C. The appeal from a program. D. The advice from her husband.
25. What did the author worry about at first?
A. She would be taken lightly by others.
B. Her choice would affect her personal life.
C. Her academic life would face a big challenge.
D. She would have difficulty adapting to local life.
26. What do people value in Denmark?
A. The glorious pedigree. B. Traditional life.
C. The work-life balance. D. Superior social position.
27. What did the author realize living in Denmark?
A. The importance of choosing a major. B. The necessity of accepting new ideas.
C. The true meaning of being successful. D. The inequality of getting academic resources.

When Montana and Idaho held their first regulated wolf hunts in 2009, one of their stated goals was to reduce pressure on ranchers(牧场主). Rebounding wolf populations were killing livestock(牲畜).Fewer wolves, the thinking went, should mean fewer killed cows and sheep.
The same logic is being used today in wolf management plans and is now also being discussed inEurope, which recently voted to downgrade the protected status of wolves in the European Union.
A new study, though, finds that wolf hunting in the Western U. S. has had little impact on the loss of livestock. Nor has it reduced the number of times federal or state wildlife officials have been called to cull problematic wolves.
The study looked at data from two states that have allowed public wolf hunts, Montana with an estimated 1,100 wolves and Idaho with over 1,200, and two states that have not, Oregon andWashington. Researchers looked at wolf abundance, the number killed in wolf hunting and by government removals, and livestock eaten by wolves from 2001 to 2005, and found the amount of livestock saved by killing a wolf roughly equaled 7% of a single cow. In other words, you would have to kill roughly 14 wolves to save a cow.
If protecting livestock is the goal, Merz, one of the study's co-authors, said, “Based on how many wolves you would have to kill while trying to match conservation goals, but also allowing
ranchers to continue with their livelihoods, it might not be the best solution.” Other strategies, like adding fencing, or paying people to watch over their ranches, have long been used in many states. ButMerz said the cost of those methods often falls on the ranchers, who are dealing with a lot of other pressures like wildfires and drought.
Merz, who has worked in wildlife conservation and human-wildlife conflict in Africa, said, “This paper isn't about whether or not we should be hunting. We' re talking about finding a management tool that will help ranchers manage livestock predation(捕食).”
28. Which is the idea behind Idaho's wolf management?
A. No livestock, no wolves. B. The more wolves, the better.
C. No law of the jungle, no wolves. D. The fewer wolves, the more livestock.
29. What does the underlined word“cull” in paragraph 3 probably mean?
A. Kill. B. Track. C. Observe. D. Estimate.
30. What can be concluded from paragraph 4?
A. The cost to kill a wolf is high.
B. Not all states in the U. S. have wolves.
C. People conducted the study by tracking wolves.
D. It is impractical to protect livestock by killing wolves.
31. Why did Merz carry out the study?
A. To predict the effect of wolf hunting. B. To seek ways to reduce livestock predation.
C. To ensure the protected status of wolves. D. To ease the ranchers’ financial pressure.
D
As artificial intelligence(AI) and cloud computing continue to expand, the demand for data processing—— and the heat it generates—— is rising sharply. Currently, cooling accounts for up to 40% of a data center’ s total energy use. If trends continue, global energy use for cooling could more than double by 2030.
A newly-developed cooling technology could help contain that trend. It uses a cheap fiber membrane(膜) with a network of tiny, interconnected holes that draw cooling liquid across its surface. As the liquid evaporates(蒸发), it efficiently removes heat from the electronics underneath—— no extra energy required. The membrane sits on top of microchannels above the electronics, pulling in liquid that flows through the channels and efficiently releases heat.
“Compared to traditional air or liquid cooling, evaporation can release higher heat current while using less energy,” said Renkun Chen, a professor at the UC San Diego Jacobs School of Engineering.
Many applications currently rely on evaporation for cooling. Heat pipes in laptops and evaporators in air conditioners are some examples, explained Chen. But applying it effectively to high-power electronics has been a challenge. Previous attempts using membranes with tiny holes—— which have high surface areas that are ideal for evaporation—— have been unsuccessful because their holes were either too small or too large. “Here, we use fiber membranes with interconnected holes with the right size,” saidChen. This design achieves efficient evaporation without those downsides.
When tested across variable heat currents, the membrane achieved record-breaking performance. It managed more than 800 watts of heat per square centimeter—— one of the highest levels ever recorded for this kind of cooling system. It also proved stable over multiple hours of operation.
“This success shows the potential of reimagining materials for entirely new applications,” saidChen. “These fiber membranes were originally designed for filtration(过滤), and no one had previously explored their use in evaporation.”
While the current results are promising, Chen says the technology is still operating well below its theoretical limit. The team is now working to refine the membrane and optimize performance.
32. How does the author introduce the topic?
A. By explaining a new concept. B. By pointing out a new tendency.
C. By listing the disadvantages of AI. D. By introducing global energy distribution.
33. What contributes to the success of this cooling technology?
A. The use of new material. B. The adoption of evaporation.
C. The suitable length of heat pipes. D. The ideal and interconnected holes.
34. Which statement about the new technology might Chen agree with?
A. It has reached its theoretical limit. B. It has been widely put into practice.
C. It guarantees the function of filtration. D. It shows stability during hours of operation.
35. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. New Material Is Being Used in Computer Industry
B. The Development of AI Results in the Shortage of Energy
C. New Technology May Help Reduce Data Center's Energy Demands
D. The Application of New Cooling Technology Is Becoming a New Trend

I' ve done my share of stress-eating with ice cream or distracting my anxiety by buying something online that I don't need just to give myself a lift. 36
But when it comes to true self-care, I' ve found what really works for me. It doesn't cost anything, except for investing in new shoes every eight months—— running. 37 It has also been a comfort to know that I can do it when I need to as a way to ground myself and appreciate the good stuff in my life.
How did I begin running? My sister Lorie is an inspiring athlete who introduced me to running almost 5 years ago. 38 About six months later, I ran my first 5K road race and loved it. Racing is fun because you' re part of a group enjoying the outdoors and smiling at people cheering you on.
39 Heading out the door alone for a quick 5K is something I usually do. I' ve always liked setting my own schedule, so running is like self-care I can control. Plus, you can make it as hard as you want it to be. That depends on how fast or how far you want to go. That really works for me. I like to feel energized, and running certainly does that. It has helped me cope with the lows of my depression.
And as I' ve learned over the years, you can't avoid stress from your life, but you can counter it with relaxation in whatever form works best for you. 40 However, adding in the effort of running makes it an overall self-care win for me.
A. It has helped me deal with difficult emotions.
B. Only in this way can you live a stress-free life.
C. However, I didn't believe and refused to have a try.
D. Some people get that me-time with a hot bath or a great book.
E. I'm happy, though, to just run by myself in my neighbourhood.
F. The way I“fix” myself isn't always healthy or well-thought-out.
G. As a beginner, I started out by running five minutes and walking a minute.

“Every day when I go out, I carry an iPad and a digital pencil with me,” says Chang, a senior calligrapher and professor, when introducing his new toolkit for 56 (practice) Chinese calligraphy.
Chang finds that students tend 57 (spend) much more time on computers and cellphones than writing on paper, and less time on calligraphy. So he wanted to employ 58 (technology) tools to inspire their interest in calligraphy. He worked with the department of information engineering. Six years after they began working on the initiative, they 59 (come) up with a system called“e-pen”.
However, this system was not perfect. Then, thanks to the tablet computer, 60 updated“e-pen” was born.
There was an elderly lady standing in the bone-chilling cold outside the back of the supermarket. She was holding a basket with bunches of flowers.
“Would you like the flowers? They are $3.” she asked me as I was walking past. I politely responded “No, thank you”, as I walked away and went inside the supermarket.
I was walking around the supermarket searching for the thing that I was needing to buy and thinking of that lady, standing in the cold holding her basket of flowers. Visualising the beautiful flowers I had admired, her polite quiet voice and lonely figure, I wondered about her unknown story of standing in the cold with her basket. Maybe her family was in urgent need of money; maybe she was a lone soul to earn a living with her own hands ...
I had my own personal struggles, I had to budget for everything and I appreciated that $3 was a lot for me, like many of us all and probably for her too. But it wasn't my first thought when she had asked me about buying her flowers. My first thought was I didn't have the cash but this couldn't be used as an excuse for not buying those flowers. I had not carried cash with me for a few years and I thought many of us did the same.
When I went to the register to pay with my card I asked for $3 cash out. The staff member questioned me about the $3. I felt anxious about it quickly and tried to remember the money I had in my account. And at the same time she pressed the button to process it. I had mentioned that I wanted to buy flowers from the lady who was selling them outside. With a sigh of relief, I was glad to see it all had been accepted by the machine and the staff member handed me the $3.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150个左右;
I walked away and headed straight for the lady.
After giving her $3, I was surprised when she handed me the change.

Text 10
W: Recently, I started to use an app to keep a record of my running. Last night I finished an 8.3- km run in46 minutes and burn 468 calories. In comparison, my run two days ago was 8.6 km in 46 minutes with 483 calories burnt. This inner self- comparison left me feeling disappointed. Focusing on these tiny differences in numbers made me ignore how I actually felt after running. Honestly, I was completely tired out. Fitness apps are useful for tracking health. However, we should exercise for the purpose of building our confidence. It's about feeling great after a workout and improving our quality of life, not just chasing numbers. So, don't read into the numbers to the point where they look or sound better than we feel. Sometimes what serves us is simply going to sleep at 9:30 p. m. instead of forcing ourselves into a workout.

根据第一段最后一句“Fewer wolves, the thinking went, should mean fewer killed cows andsheep.”
故选A。
根据第四段第一句“Montana with an estimated 1,100 wolves and Idaho with over 1,200”和最后一句“In other words, you would have to kill roughly 14 wolves to save a cow.”
根据最后一段最后一句“We' re talking about finding a management tool that will help ranchersmanage livestock predation.”
根据第四段中的“‘Here, we use fiber membranes with interconnected holes with the rightsize’”可知,新科技利用“附有尺寸合适且相互连接的小孔”的纤维膜,实现了高效蒸发,这是成功的关键。故选D。
根据倒数第三段最后一句“It also proved stable over multiple hours of operation.”
根据上文“The cut was deep.” 故选A。
根据下文“‘Why would you want to remember that?…’ he asked, eyes wide.” 故选A。
根据下文“‘Why would you want to remember that?’”以及“‘Seeing this will remind me…’”
根据“‘Of course not!’ I responded.”
根据上文的“it scratched my arm”和“The cut was deep.”
根据上文的“‘He wouldn't attack me intentionally.’”
根据上文的“‘Seeing this will remind me I suffered a minor , but it was about whatcaused Gato's action.’”
故选A。
根据上文“‘I want to always have this scar—— as a .’”
故选A。
根据空后内容“‘A friend loves at all times.’”

One possible version:
Dear teacher and classmates,
Today, I'd like to share my thoughts on" campus sharing economy". Just as the name suggests, campus sharing economy means we students make our unused resources available to those in need through sharing, like the used book corner in the class and the shared umbrellas in our dining hall. We can also exchange or share other items that are temporarily unused. Through sharing, we can not only reduce our daily expenses but also do good to our environment indirectly. At the same time, sharing activities can create opportunities for students to interact and strengthen community bonds.
In a word, it is of great benefit to us and let's keep promoting this good practice!
Thanks for your listening!
One possible version:
I walked away and headed straight for the lady. She was still standing where I once met her. The wind was blowing heavily, and her cheeks now were red because of the chilly wind.Somehow, I felt a bit ashamed of not buying the flowers beforehand. At the moment, I made up my mind. I came up to her and told her that I would buy the flowers. Feeling excited, she handed me the flowers politely. And I reached my pocket, giving her the money.
After giving her $3, I was surprised when she handed me the change. I asked if she had made a mistake. A simply word “No” was answered. She told me she had stood here for almost all day selling the flowers as her husband was badly ill. No one wanted to give her the sympathy to buy the flowers. It was only I that helped her and bought the flowers. She was grateful and decided to give me some discount. All at once, I realised that even a small kindness can also make a big difference.
