Even though即使;As long as只要;Whatever无论什么;Unless除非。根据句意,后句“he always tries his best to do it well.”
22.—Can I go to Tom’s birthday party tomorrow?
—Of course. ________ you ________ your brother is invited. Have a nice time then.
A.Neither; nor B.Both; and C.Not only; but also D.Either; or

“prefer to do...rather than do...”,意为“宁愿做……而不愿做……”,是固定搭配,其中prefer后接不定式,rather than后接动词原形,D项符合。故选D。

A.is B.are C.was D.were
【答案】B
【知识点】are、not only...but also

“not only...but also...”

What does a beautiful pet dog look like in your opinion?
It was a long night. Our dog, Precious, was having puppies. I stayed by her side. After six hours, the puppies finally started to arrive. The first was black and white. The next two were brown, and the last two were also black and white. I counted five puppies and went to tell my wife, Judy, that everything was okay.
When we came back, we saw a sixth puppy alone in the cage. Judy noticed something was wrong. The puppy had a cleft lip (唇颚裂), which meant it couldn’t close its mouth or drink. The animal doctor said it would cost a lot to fix, and the puppy might not live. We couldn’t afford it, but I decided to try my best to help the puppy. I fed it with a syringe (注射器) every two hours for over 10 days. The puppy slowly learned to eat soft food.
After five weeks, we found homes for all the puppies except the one with the cleft lip.
One day, our neighbor, a retired teacher, asked if she could have a puppy for her grandson. When they arrived, I told her all the puppies were taken. Just then, the little puppy with the cleft lip started to shout. The boy, who also had a cleft lip, ran to the puppy, calling it “my puppy”. He looked up at his grandmother and said, “Look, Grandma! They found homes for all the puppies except the pretty one, and he looks just like me.” The teacher asked if the puppy was available. I said yes. The boy hugged the puppy tightly.
The image of the boy and his puppy still stays with me. I think it must be a wonderful feeling for any young person to look in the mirror and see nothing except “the pretty one”.
58.How many puppies did Precious give birth to?
A.Three. B.Four. C.Five. D.Six.
59.What was wrong with the last puppy?
A.It couldn’t close its mouth. B.It couldn’t open its mouth.
C.It couldn’t live on. D.It couldn’t eat soft food.
60.Why did the teacher’s grandson want to keep the little puppy?
A.Because he thought it was his puppy. B.Because it looked like him.
C.Because no one took it home. D.Because his grandma liked it.
61.What’s the writer’s feeling after the grandson took the pretty one away?
A.Sad B.Happy C.Moved D.Excited
62.In what order did the writer organize this article?
A.In order of time. B.In order of place.
C.In order of people. D.In order of feeling.

Many people now use AI chatbots like ChatGPT to help with work or study. These tools can quickly complete tasks such as writing emails or summarizing reports. However, is this always a good thing? AI and design researcher Advait Sarkar warns that if we rely too much on AI to think for us, we might become “middle managers for our own thoughts.”
When we let AI do tasks that require thinking, such as analyzing, writing, or making decisions, we risk losing important skills. Studies show that people who use AI too much may lead to bad consequences. They may become less creative, weaken critical thinking, get poorer memories, and it’s hard to reflect on their own thinking process. In short, if we don’t exercise our brains, our thinking ability can become weaker.
But AI doesn’t have to replace our thinking. It is designed to help us think better.
It encourages active reading by providing summaries, it helps users organize their ideas while staying connected to the original (原始的) materials, it offers suggestions, presents different views, or points out possible mistakes. In this way, the user learns and remembers more.
Thinking is part of being human. If machines do all our thinking for us, we may lose our ability to solve hard problems, make good judgments, and come up with new ideas. Good AI should help us grow smarter, not make us lazy thinkers.
Therefore, when using AI, it’s worth thinking: Is this tool doing my thinking for me, or is it helping me think better? We should choose tools that protect and strengthen our minds, not replace them. As Sarkar says, “What would you rather have? A tool that thinks for you, or a tool that makes you think?”
63.What does the underlined word “rely” in paragraph 1 mean?
A.repeat. B.create. C.require. D.depend.
64.Which of the following is NOT mentioned as a possible consequence of using AI too much?
A.Poorer memory. B.Weaker critical thinking.
C.Improved creativity. D.Difficult reflecting on one’s own thinking.
65.What is the writer’s attitude toward AI in the passage?
A.Strongly disagree. B.Fully support.
C.Use wisely. D.Uninterested.
66.What is the main purpose of the passage?
A.To explain how AI chatbots work.
B.To warn about the risks of AI replacing human thought.
C.To discuss how to use AI for better thinking.
D.To compare different AI brands in the market.
67.Advait Sarkar’s final question is meant to make readers consider ________.
A.which AI brand is the most popular
B.how tools influence our thinking abilities in the long run
C.how much AI tools cost
D.which AI can complete tasks the fastest

根据“AI and design researcher Advait Sarkar warns that if we rely too much on AI to think for us, we might become ‘middle managers for our own thoughts.’”
根据“Studies show that people who use AI too much may lead to bad consequences. They may become less creative, weaken critical thinking, get poorer memories, and it’s hard to reflect on their own thinking process.”
根据“Studies show that people who use AI too much may lead to bad consequences.”及“But AI doesn’t have to replace our thinking. It is designed to help us think better.”
根据“What would you rather have? A tool that thinks for you, or a tool that makes you think?”

For more than a thousand years, ancient China used a special system 44 government officials (官员). It was called the Imperial Examination, or Keju. It began in the Sui Dynasty and 45 until the end of the Qing Dynasty.
