In life, you connect with different people in different ways. Being friendly and working hard will bring you many friends, but you won’t get likes from everyone. And that's OK.
Jim, a boy at the same age of you, faces this situation. Let’s see what his classmates think of him.
The chart (图表) on the right shows the ideas of Jim’s 50 classmates. Most of them like him, but a small number do not.
If you are in a similar situation like Jim, will you feel sad when you find that not everyone likes you? If you do, here is some advice for you to cheer up.
1. Talk to friends or family about your bad feelings.
2. Think about why you can’t get all the likes: if you did something wrong, correct the mistake; if not, just let it go.
3. Write down your good points to feel confident again and recognise your value.
4. Never waste time making everyone like you—it’s impossible. Even the most successful people can’t make everyone like them.
So, take it easy if some people dislike you, be yourself and work on becoming better. That's what really matters.

Will using AI for homework stop students from thinking on their own? A new study from scientists at a famous US university has looked into this question.
In the study, scientists divided 54 people into three groups and asked them to write articles. The members in the first group wrote with the help of AI. Those in the second group used search engines (搜索引擎) , while the members in the last group depended only on their own minds.
During the process (过程) , scientists used a special medical tool to check and record the brain activity of all the members. After comparing the records, they found something surprising. Those who used only their minds showed the highest level of brain activity. However, AI users had the lowest level. What’s more, their brain activity became weaker after writing each article. They remembered little of what they wrote.
________ So a scientist called Kosmyna felt it important to share the findings though the study was not large. She was afraid that things would get worse when more and more students use AI tools at school. “That would be detrimental,” she said. “Young people are more likely to be hurt because their brains are still developing.” Kosmyna also pointed out that AI users wrote similar articles. These articles had few new ideas and repeated the same expressions. She suggested that teachers should guide students to use such tools in a right way and develop their brains in a more traditional way.
26. What did the members of the second group do?
A. They wrote with AI tools. B. They wrote by themselves. C. They wrote with search engines. D. They wrote with medical tools.
27. Which picture correctly shows the brain activity level of the three groups?
A. B. C. D.
28. Which sentence can be put in ________ in Paragraph 4?
A. Only one scientist knew the result. B. The result of the study was worrying.
C. The members were too tired to write. D. All the people needed to write again.
29. What does the underlined word “detrimental” probably mean in Paragraph 4?
A. Lively. B. Blind. C. Boring. D. Dangerous.
30. What is the best title for the passage?
A. AI Use May Be Bad For Thinking B. Good Articles Are Shocking. C. The Three Groups In The Study D. The Future of Search Engines

She wanted to know what was inside. These experiences made her fall in love with exploring new ideas.
Last summer, Emily grew some plants in the yard, but she often forgot to water them. As a result, some of her plants died. When she saw it, she came up with an idea: to make a machine and water the plants automatically (自动).
To reach the goal, Emily read books on technology and watched videos about watering systems. Then she began to build her machine. At first, her invention didn’t work well. But Emily went on improving it.
After two months of hard work, Emily’s plant watering machine finally worked! It used a sensor (感应器) to check the water in the soil (土壤). When the soil became dry, the machine would water the plants automatically. Emily was so excited that she showed it to her parents. They were very proud of her.

Our English club is holding a “Smart Little Things” design competition. I am excited to share my idea. My design is a “Smart Umbrella.” I have chosen it because people often forget their umbrellas or lose them on rainy days. This smart umbrella can talk with its owner to give reminders. For example it will say “Don’t forget me!” when you leave it behind. It can also tell you the daily weather and remind you to bring it out on rainy days. This idea is creative because it helps people keep their umbrellas and avoid getting wet.
