But his great deeds and strong spirit will always stay in our hearts and keep lighting up China’s way forward. Huang Xuhua was born in Guangdong Province in 1926. When he was young, he saw the hard times of his country under foreign attacks. These sad memories made him study hard. He made a promise to make the country strong with his knowledge. In the 1950s, when China started to develop nuclear submarines(核潜艇), it was a very difficult job. Huang Xuhua was not afraid and stood up bravely. At that time, there was not much advanced technology or many resources. It was like climbing a very steep mountain. But he and his team took on this challenge. To keep the project secret, they stopped contacting the outside world, even their families, Huang Xuhua left his hometown for many years. During the design process, they met a lot of problems. For example, designing a nuclear reactor was really hard. They couldn’t get help from foreign experts(专家), so they could only depend on their own research. They used simple tools like abacuses(算盘) and slide rules to calculate and do experiments with great effort. Another important problem was to make sure the submarine was stable underwater. After many simulations and tests, they gradually overcame these problems. Finally, in the 1970s, China’s first nuclear submarine was built and tested successfully. This made China one of the few countries that had this ability. Huang Xuhua didn’t stop after this big success. He went on to help with the development of submarine technology. His hard work and devotion won him many honors, including the “Medal of the Republic” in 2019. Now, when we think of him, we know that his life can inspire us a lot. We, especially the young people, should learn from his spirit. Let’s take on the responsibility, face challenges bravely, and work hard to make China stronger. In this way, his spirit will live on forever. 13. The writer mentions Huang Xuhua’s childhood experiences to ________. A. show how poor his family was. B. introduce the foreign attacks on China. It’s the discussion that goes on inside your head. What you say to yourself will make a difference to how you think, feel and act, so it’s worth attention. Your inner voice is always with you. You may notice it when you make a mistake or when you try something new. 17 Sometimes it sounds kind but at other times it may sound scary. Whatever it sounds, we should treat it with kindness. 18 If you keep telling yourself you’re not good at making friends or you’re not creative, over time you’ll believe your inner voice is true. When you talk to yourself using a sentence like “I have to clean my room.”, it makes the task harder. Instead, if you say, “I choose to clean my room, and then I’ll feel comfortable and find my things easily.”, it’s more positive. 19 But how to treat your inner voice? Trying to be friends with your inner voice can give you more energy. For example, when you make a mistake, you may feel afraid. You think you may be criticized(批评). 20 You can learn from the mistakes and try to avoid making the same mistakes next time. When you do something that makes you feel nervous, encourage yourself to go ahead bravely. If you are not sure what to say, imagine you’re talking to your best friends and trying to support and help them.A. Why do we have an inner voice? B. Your inner voice has different tones. C. How does the inner voice influence you? D. But you should tell yourself it’s OK to get something wrong. E. You’re telling yourself how you’ll benefit from cleaning your room. 二、 完形填空(共10小题,每小题1分;满分10分) 阅读短文,理解其大意,从A、B、C、D四个选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。 A 101-year-old woman is taking IT classes in order to “catch up” on technology. Many young people enjoy gathering a couple of good friends and hanging out in the streets when they visit a new city. They can follow a typical city route(路线), exploring old buildings, going window-shopping, drinking a cup of coffee, or enjoying local snacks. In order to show their Citywalk, more and more people prefer to share their experiences and thoughts through social media. Xiao Yiyi, a young guide in Changsha, recently shared six Citywalk routes of different cities on the Internet, providing experiences for visitors to “walk in open-air museums”. Her Changsha travel route includes more unusual sights such as historical buildings, old streets, and even some snack bars. Citywalk is spreading from the largest cities to smaller ones, encouraging more travelers and event organizers to join. Some places, such as Beijing and Shandong, have included Citywalk in their plans to develop cultural tourism and relaxing tours. Shanghai has set up Citywalk bus routes to help day-trippers reach more faraway areas first, and then continue on foot. Citywalk not only offers a way for young people to explore a city but also provides them with a new social situation, where they can share their interests and ideas and make friends easily.
