With a world full of fascinating travel destinations, choosing the perfect vacation spot can present a challenge. Here are top three the world’s best places to visit. Use these recommendations to craft your travel bucket list.
Swiss Alps
Snow-covered mountains, charming towns and flower-covered meadows make the Swiss Alps a year-round fairy-tale destination. Visit in the winter for world-class skiing (and après-ski fondue and drinks) in locations such as St. Moritz. Choose warmer months to hike through the valleys of Swiss National Park or attend lively festivals in the foothill town of Montreux. Regardless of the time of year, no trip would be complete without a visit to the Jungfrau Region, where you can wander through mountain villages or take the Jungfrau Railway to Europe’s highest railway station.
Bora Bora
Although small in size, this 12-square-mile island in the South Pacific is very beautiful. Here, you’ll find beaches, jungles and resorts set on surrounding small islands. The island’s extinct volcano, Mount Otemanu, makes for a great photo opportunity or challenging hike, and the friendly Bora Bora locals can help you catch a glimpse of the island’s best sights during an off-road trip. To relax, head to Matira Beach for crystal-clear water and postcard-worthy white sand. Although a trip to Bora Bora is expensive, most travelers say it’s worth every penny.
Rome
When you visit Italy’s capital city, prepare to cross a few must-see landmarks- including the Colosseum, the Trevi Fountain and the Pantheon- off of your bucket list. Travelers can also see some of Italy’s greatest treasures, including St. Peter’s Basilica and the Sistine Chapel, in Vatican City. The Eternal City is always popular, but with a Catholic celebration taking place throughout 2025, expect even more crowds and book accommodations and airfare well in advance.
21. What can visitors do in the Swiss Alps during warmer months?
A Enjoy world-class skiing. B. Attend festivals in Montreux.
C. Taste fondue and drinks in St. Moritz. D. Visit Europe’s highest railway station.
22. What is a common feature of both Swiss Alps and the Bora Bora?
A. They are both located in Europe. B. They both offer opportunities for hiking.
C They both have world-class skiing facilities. D. They are both budget-friendly travel destinations.
23. According to the text, what might be a challenge for traveling to Rome in 2025?
A. A lack of famous landmarks. B. Higher cost of accommodations.
C. The difficulty in finding local guides. D. Larger crowds due to a special event.

During my third year at art school, I wandered into a small bookbinding (书籍装帧) workshop. Watching the instructor carefully fold and bind pages together, I had a sudden realization: “This is an actual profession?” That moment changed everything. For seven years, I had been training in various art forms, but discovering bookbinding erased my previous plans. All my previous career plans disappeared, and I knew exactly what I wanted to become.
As a child, I was always making things — painting, sewing, constructing. If I couldn’t create, I felt restless. Bookbinding combined everything I loved: books, design, and making. Books had always fascinated me. It wasn’t just the stories inside; it was the object itself—the smell of the pages, the weight in my hands, the worn corners suggesting countless readers before me.
Learning wasn’t easy. Traditional bookbinding courses had largely disappeared as older craftsmen retired without formal apprenticeship (学徒) systems. There is no single place to learn the craft comprehensively. I gathered knowledge wherever I could — workshops abroad, private studios, and countless books. However, after months of trying to combine broken techniques, I reached an impasse: I could only copy what others did, but lacked a fundamental comprehension of how it worked. This experience shaped my future vision of creating a complete learning center by myself.
In 2009, I launched Black Fox Bindery, a workshop that could accommodate five students at a time. I invited talented bookbinders to teach here, creating a space where knowledge could be shared. This fulfilled a promise to keep this craft alive. Some people ask if technology threatens my profession. While e-books have their place, they lack the sensory experience of physical books. Teaching brings me great satisfaction. When students complete their first handmade book, their faces light up with pride. That moment reminds me why I fell in love with this craft.
24. What mainly caused the author to change her career plan to bookbinding?
A. The artistic value of bookbinding. B. The early influence of her childhood.
C. The long- term effect of her training. D. The immediate appeal of bookbinding.
25. What does the underlined phrase “reached an impasse” in paragraph 3 probably mean?
A. Met with a difficult situation. B. Employed a different approach.
C. Made a key breakthrough. D. Achieved a specific goal.
26. What motivated the author to establish Black Fox Bindery?
A. To spread crafting skills. B. To expand business offerings.
C. To preserve physical books. D. To boost e- book development.
27. What does the author’s experience mainly show?
A. Traditions need creativity. B. Teaching outweighs learning.
C. Success requires patience. D. Passion shapes one’s career choice.
C
It is widely known that our bodies react quickly when we face danger. Our heart beats faster, our appetite drops, and our blood sugar rises to provide energy. Scientists used to believe that this process was mainly controlled by stress hormones (激素) in the body. However, a new study has found that the brain itself may play a direct role in changing body energy during stress.
Researchers at the Icahn School of Medicine studied mice to explore how the brain controls energy when they are under stress. By using special tools to observe brain activity, they discovered that a small brain area, which helps deal with fear, sends messages to another part of the brain called the hypothalamus. The hypothalamus then tells the liver (肝脏) to make more sugar for the body to use.
The study revealed that this “brain-to-liver line” works even without the usual stress hormones. In other words, brain activity caused a fast rise in blood sugar through nerve signals rather than slow chemical messengers. The brain can raise blood sugar directly through nerve signals (神经信号) . When scientists turned this brain line on in mice, their blood sugar went up right away. But when stress happened again and again, the line became weaker and blood sugar stayed high for a long time — similar to the early stage of diabetes (糖尿病) . One scientist said, “The brain can prepare the body for action much faster than we thought.”
This finding helps us understand the close connection between the brain, emotion, and body health. It suggests that long- term stress could harm the nerve system that keeps blood sugar balanced, leading to health problems like diabetes or weight gain. In the future, learning how to care for both our mind and body may become an important way to prevent stress-related diseases.
28. What is the new finding about the stress response?
A. It only raises sugar levels for a while. B. It fully relies on the heart for energy use.
C. It directly uses the brain to control energy. D. It mainly depends on stress hormones.
29. How did researchers conduct the experiment?
A. By monitoring brain signals in mice. B. By observing the mouse behavior only.
C. By measuring changes in blood sugar. D. By analyzing stress hormones in the liver.
30. What can be inferred about repeated stress according to the study?
A. It lowers the risk of diabetes. B. It affects chemical messengers.
C. It causes lasting high blood sugar. D. It strengthens brain functions.
31. Which of the following can be a suitable title for the text?
A. Nerve Pathway in Stress Energy Control B. Body Hormones in Stress Regulation
C. Brain Activity in Mental Health D. Stress Effects on Blood Sugar
D
After approximately 2 hours and 40 minutes, the Tien Kung Ultra robot, developed by China’s National and Local Co-built Embodied AI Robotics Innovation Center, became the first to cross the finish line at the world’s first humanoid robot half-marathon, held in Beijing on April 19th, 2025.
Right from the start of the race, the Tien Kung humanoid robot took an early lead, demonstrating a significant speed advantage and the robot came to a smooth stop in the waiting area after completing the 21-kilometer course. Human marathon participants who finished the race gathered around to take photos with the pioneering robot.
In addition to the Tien Kung Ultra, multiple advanced humanoid robots including Unitree’s G1, Leju Robotics’ Kuavo, and NOETIX’s N2, among others, participated in the event. Accompanied by the cheers of the crowd, the starting gun fired at 7:30 am, and the humanoid robot athletes and human runners started running at the same time. Many spectators (观众) brought professional filming equipment to capture the moment of the world’s first robot half-marathon.
Notably, this event witnessed robots running along with human runners for the first time. They were separated with physical barriers to ensure safety, and followed with different competition rules and completion time standards. The robots started sequentially (依次地) at one-minute interval following a gunshot signal. Supply stations are set up along the track, where teams can replace batteries for robots, swap robots, and shift support staff.
Ren Yawei, a representative from the National and Local Co- built Embodied AI Robotics Innovation Center, stated, “The humanoid robot half-marathon serves as a comprehensive technological validation (验证) platform for robots from various companies. It not only tests product performance but also demonstrates the potential for large-scale industrial applications.” He added, “The successful completion of this event further validates humanoid robots’ capabilities in safety, stability, and operational efficiency, which will promote their application in more fields.”
32. What is true about the Tien Kung Ultra robot?
A. It won the first robot half-marathon race.
B. It lacked a speed advantage in the half-marathon race.
C. It failed to stop smoothly at last in the half-marathon race.
D. It avoided taking photos with humans in the half-marathon race.
33. What can we learn from paragraph 3?
A. Human runners began earlier than the robots. B. Only one robot participated in the event.
C. The race started with no audience present. D. Multiple robots raced alongside human runners.
34. Why were special arrangements made for the robot race?
A. To test robots’ ability to run without support.
B. To guarantee a fair race between different robots.
C. To ensure safety and handle robot-specific issues.
D. To make the event more entertaining for the audience.
35. What is Ren Yawei’s attitude toward the humanoid robot half-marathon?
A. Doubtful. B. Optimistic. C. Indifferent. D. Conservative.

French Polynesia coral reefs (珊瑚礁) support at least a quarter of ocean life; half a billion people rely on these ecosystems. This makes their rapid decline a pressing environmental issue. About half of the world’s coral reefs have died or are dying due to factors such as pollution and global warming, threatening both ecological balance and human livelihoods for coastal communities. ____36____
A local response is underway. Titouan Bernicot, a passionate conservationist from the island of Moorea, founded Coral Gardeners in 2017. He observed the gradual disappearance of marine life around his home. ____37____ In the following years, he dedicated his efforts to reviving these ecosystems that are essential for both marine health and cultural identity.
The method involves collecting broken coral fragments (碎块) and placing them in underwater nurseries. ____38____ As a result, corals can restore and grow safely away from predators (捕食者) and stressors, ensuring a much higher survival rate. This stage is vital for building their adaptability before facing the open ocean.
____39____ Coral Gardeners has already replanted over 15,000 corals but intends to reach a million globally by 2025. Technology is key to this goal, enabling precise monitoring at scale. For instance, sensors provide real-time data on coral health and subtle changes in water conditions.
Lasting success requires more than science. By educating and involving local communities in conservation activities, Coral Gardeners promotes environmental management. ____40____ These approaches create a sustainable, community-driven model that can be adopted worldwide to protect vital marine ecosystems.
A. This led him to pursue active restoration.
B. Their great value makes their loss a global concern.
C. These places offer a safe environment for growth.
D. These places allow for careful, large-scale monitoring.
E. Worldwide policy change is also needed to support this.
F. Empowering communities also ensures long-term care and success.
G. Once strong enough, the corals are transplanted to damaged reef areas.

Sophie, a quiet tenth- grader, found comfort in watercolor painting. She took the sketchbook (速写本) everywhere with her, capturing moments others often missed — the sunset after school, the potted plant by the window, and her classmates’ warm smiles. Yet these paintings remained hidden in her drawer.
When the annual art festival approached, Sophie hesitated. No one had ever seen her work, and the thought of displaying it in public made her nervous. But her piece “Morning Mist,” showing the fog lifting from the soccer field, felt different. She had spent weeks perfecting it, and Ms. Chen, her art teacher, had encouraged her. Finally, she decided to submit it.
However, her name wasn’t on the selected list. “Rejected, huh?” Ryan teased (取笑) . “It’s so pale — did you forget to finish it?” Some students laughed. Sophie’s face burned. Before she could stop herself, she tore the painting into pieces and ran away before tears fell.
Ms. Chen witnessed everything. She sighed, knowing that Ryan himself had been rejected the year before, though few knew. She wondered if he made fun of others to hide his own disappointment. The next morning, she found Sophie in an empty classroom. “I’ve kept every rejection letter I’ve ever received,” she said softly, producing a worn folder. “Each one reminded me that rejection isn’t about being wrong — it’s about growing and finding the right audience.” She pressed a flyer (宣传单) into Sophie’s hand. “The festival has an open show. No judges — just artists sharing their vision. The deadline is Friday.”
Walking home, Sophie held the flyer, thinking about the paintings in her drawer — moments preserved simply because she loved them. The show was in three days. That night, she stood before her art supplies, torn between fear and desire. Her drawer stayed closed, guarding the works she’d never shown. Yet the thought of the open show kept returning, whispering in her mind.

【原文】 Good evening, gentlemen and boys! Thank you for being here this evening. We’re here to congratulate the top achievers of this year. The boys here have worked hard in order to be a part of this ceremony. Recognition of achievement can make us push ourselves and reach our full potential. The prizewinners are a true representation of everything that we value here at Hampton School. I have every confidence that you young men will be precisely the kind of young people who will make a positive difference to the country and the world. Your success will be built on being true to yourself. You should recognize your problems and doubts as well as your positive qualities. I remember listening to an interview with Andy Murray, one of the top tennis players in the world. After he was defeated in the first round of a tournament by a much lower ranked player, the media went crazy. However, Murray was straightforward and wise. “Nobody died here,” he said, “I only lost a tennis match, nothing more.” We are proud of our prizewinners today. They should be proud of themselves. But let’s be clear, if you link motivation to winning prizes in life, you set yourself up for disappointment. The greatest prize of all is that you can look yourself in the eye and say, “I tried my absolute best.”

【答案】24. D 25. A 26. A 27. D

【答案】28. C 29. A 30. C 31. A
根据第一段中“However, a new study has found that the brain itself may play a direct role in changing body energy during stress.( 然而,一项新的研究发现,在压力状态下,大脑本身可能也直接参与了改变身体能量的过程。)”可知,关于应激反应,研究发现大脑本身可能直接参与压力状态下身体能量的调节。故选C项。
【29题详解】
细节理解题。根据第二段中“By using special tools to observe brain activity, they discovered that a small brain area, which helps deal with fear, sends messages to another part of the brain called the hypothalamus.( 通过使用特殊工具来观察大脑活动,他们发现一个负责处理恐惧的小脑区会向大脑中的另一个部分——下丘脑发送信息。)”可知,研究人员是通过监测老鼠的大脑信号来进行这项实验的。故选A项。
【30题详解】
推理判断题。根据第三段中“But when stress happened again and again, the line became weaker and blood sugar stayed high for a long time — similar to the early stage of diabetes (糖尿病) .( 但当压力反复出现时,这条线路会变弱,血糖长时间保持在较高水平——类似于糖尿病的早期阶段)”可推知,当压力反复出现时可导致持续的高血糖。故选C项。
【31题详解】
主旨大意题。根据文章大意以及第一段“It is widely known that our bodies react quickly when we face danger. Our heart beats faster, our appetite drops, and our blood sugar rises to provide energy. Scientists used to believe that this process was mainly controlled by stress hormones (激素) in the body. However, a new study has found that the brain itself may play a direct role in changing body energy during stress.( 众所周知,当我们面临危险时,我们的身体会迅速做出反应。 故选A项。

第二节(满分25分)
67. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Walking home Sophie held the flyer, thinking about the paintings in her drawer — moments preserved simply because she loved them. The show was in three days. That night, she stood before her art supplies, torn between fear and desire. Her drawer stayed closed, guarding the works she’d never shown. Yet the thought of the open show kept returning, whispering in her mind.
注意:
(1)续写词数应为150左右;
(2)请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
After a moment of hesitation, Sophie opened the drawer.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Three days later, at the open show, Ryan stopped at her display.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】Version I:
After a moment of hesitation, Sophie opened the drawer. Inside lay her watercolors — quiet memories she’d never shared. Ms. Chen’s words echoed — rejection isn’t the end but a chance to grow; every painting deserves its right audience. Regret filled her as she remembered tearing up “Morning Mist”, the work she’d spent weeks perfecting. Taking a deep breath, she turned to a draft of the soccer field and decided to repaint it with bolder strokes. By the next evening, the new “Morning Mist” glowed softly on the paper. She gathered her works and walked steadily toward the open show.
Three days later, at the open show, Ryan stopped at her display. Sophie’s heart tightened, expecting another tease. He scanned the paintings, then froze at the new Morning Mist, his smirk fading. “These are yours?” he asked softly. When Sophie nodded, he scratched his neck. “Sorry. I joked because I still hadn’t gotten over being rejected last year.” He pointed at the painting. “It feels just like the soccer field at dawn — quiet and magical.” Nearby, some students exclaimed in admiration. Warmth melted her last bit of shame. A bright, confident smile spread across her face — she had finally found her audience.
Version Ⅱ:
After a moment of hesitation, Sophie opened the drawer. Those hidden paintings lay quietly inside, each recording beautiful moments. She recalled the torn painting “Morning Mist”, which used to be her favorite, and decided to recreate it. Memories flooding back, she painted the misty soccer field at dawn, fog curling over grass and faint golden light filtering through clouds. When she completed the painting, a sense of satisfaction welled up inside her. The next day, she selected other wonderful works, heart full of courage, ready to share.
Three days later, at the open show, Ryan stopped at her display. He stared at the paintings in surprise, eyes fixed on the brand-new “Morning Mist”. His face flushed with guilt. “I shouldn’t have laughed at you,” he apologized sincerely. “This is amazing. It is extremely vivid and incredibly charming.” Nearby, some students gathered and admired the artwork, their praise filling the air. Sophie smiled, feeling a warm glow. She realized Ms. Chen was right — being rejected means a chance to grow and art is meant to be shared with those who appreciate it.
