You’re walking down the street, thinking about your own business when a stranger passes by. He doesn’t say anything at all, but he gives you a smile. In a moment and almost unwillingly, you’re doing the same thing. You just can’t help it and you catch his smile. For some unknown reason, when we see someone smile, we just can’t stop ourselves doing the same thing.
In honor of World Smile Day (the first Friday in October), it’s the time we got real answers to this matter. Is smiling contagious (感染性的) ?
Well, a study in the Trends in Cognitive Sciences journal gives the answer “yes”. As part of the research, social psychologists (心理学家) looked into why we often copy (模仿) people’s facial expressions when we talk to them.
Interestingly, one of the conclusions (结论) was that we “try on” the emotions (感情) of others when we are talking with them. So, for example, when a friend tells us some good news happily, we may unconsciously (无意识地) show the same emotion through our smile. In doing so, we are feeling and understanding their joy.
So the reason we smile back when someone smiles at us is that we want to feel the same way as that person. However, not everyone can do this. During the research, the psychologists find people with some diseases can’t copy others’ facial expressions. They know someone is smiling but they cannot smile back.
( ) 4.What does the first paragraph mainly tell us?
A.The reason for smiling back. B.An opinion on smiling back.
C.The result of smiling back. D.An example of smiling back.
( ) 5.Why do we smile back when we see someone else smile?
A.Because we want to talk with the person. B.Because we are feeling the person’s joy.
C.Because we want the person to understand us. D.Because we want to show we are clever.
( ) 6.What problems do people with some diseases have?
A.They can’t feel happy when others smile at them. B.They smile too much and can’t stop it.
C.They can’t copy others’ smiles. D.They never smile and they are unhappy.
( ) 7.Which could be the best title for this passage?
A.Why is smiling contagious? B.What’s World Smile Day?
C.Why should we smile? D.Do you know how to smile?

八、回答下面5个问题。(共5小题;满分10分)
The traditional Chinese solar calendar divides the year into twenty-four Solar Terms. The 20th Minor snow (小雪), the 20th Minor snow of the year, begins on November 22 this year. Here are several things you should know about the Minor Snow.
Wearing hats and scarves
In China, starting in the Minor Snow, the wind blows from the northeast a lot. Many people do not wear hats or scarves yet. In fact, according to an old Chinese saying, “The head is the place where all passages of the body gather.”, it’s necessary to wear hats and scarves to keep one’s head warm.
Drinking soup
During the Minor Snow, the air indoors is dry and most people might find their nose and mouth feels a bit dry. This will cause “inner heat” in one’s body. The key is to drink more hot soup.
Eating rice cake
In some areas of South China, people eat rice cakes around the Minor Snow. In ancient times, rice cakes were a traditional festival offering to the gods of the earth.
Making pickled (腌制的) vegetables and pork
After the Minor Snow, because of low temperature and dry air, it is the best time to start making preserved pork, which by the start of Spring Festival would be ready to enjoy. The people in Yancheng, Jiangsu Province, have welcomed the Minor Snow with making pickled vegetables.
In addition, we like to eat hot and spicy food to keep warm. However, it’s not wise to eat much. This is because that will increase inner heat. This year’s Minor Snow is coming, wish you be surrounded by a life full of warmth. 请回答下面5个问题,前4题答案不超过6个单词。第5题答案词数不限。
1.When does the Minor Snow begin this year?
2.How do people keep head warm in the Minor Snow?
3.What is the key to avoiding the “inner heat”?
4.Where do people eat rice cakes around the Minor Snow?
5.What do you think of eating spicy(辛辣的)food during the Minor Snow?(请自拟一句话作答)
