A
A day can only catch the surface of one of the biggest cities — London. But it’s worth giving it a try, as long as you make sure you wear comfortable shoes.
Morning
A walk along the River Thames is a great way to get you a real sense of place — you’ll certainly know you’re in London and no other city. Start your day at Big Ben and the Palace of Westminster, before crossing Westminster Bridge and following South Bank towards the east to take in a group of famous landmarks, including a close-up view of the London Eye.
Noon
A trip to London simply wouldn’t seem right without dining in a pub. So after passing National Theatre, head away from the River Thames and towards The Anchor & Hope, which does it all — part restaurant, part stylish hotel, and part beachside bar. Its menu provides a window into how London’s dining culture has developed over time.
Afternoon
For the afternoon you have a choice. Those who appreciate architecture can head over the Millennium Bridge to a 17th century masterpiece, St Paul’s Cathedral. Art enthusiasts, meanwhile, should make for the Tate Modern, one of the largest modern art museums in the world. Beside it is Shakespeare’s Globe — a theatre dating back to the 16th century — and a little further on you’ll find Borough Market, one of the biggest and oldest food markets in London.
Stay
Walk off dinner with a walk over Tower Bridge and past the Tower of London, then head for the NoMad London. As the old Bow Magistrate’s court and police station with prison, the hotel has organically developed a romantic, artistic atmosphere. Rooms that once housed old offices and prison cells have been transformed into inviting, sunlit spaces.
1. What is suggested for a morning activity in London according to the text?
A. Dining at The Anchor & Hope. B. Paying a visit to the National Theatre.
C. Taking a close look at the London Eye. D. Visiting Borough Market for breakfast.
2. Who is most likely to choose to go to Tate Modern?
A. A play actor. B. An art collector.
C. A food lover. D. An architect.
3 Which of the following shows a creative reuse of historical architecture?
A. Palace of Westminster. B. The Anchor & Hope.
C. Shakespeare’s Globe. D. NoMad London.

My teacher held up a piece of broken glass and asked, “Who broke this window?” Thirty boys tried to think about not only what they had done, but also what our teacher might have found out. She seldom became angry, but she was this time.
“Oh,” I thought. I was the one who broke the window. It was caused by a naughty throw of a baseball. If I admitted guilt, I would be in a lot of trouble. How would I be able to pay for a big window like that? I didn’t even get pocket money. “My father is going to be annoyed,” I thought. I didn’t want to raise my hand, but some force much stronger than I pulled it skyward. I told the truth, “I did it.”
My teacher took down a book from one of our library shelves and I had never known my teacher, who would strike a student with it, but I feared she was going to start with me.
“know how you like birds,” she said as she stood looking down at my guilt-ridden (深感歉疚的) face. “Here is that field guide about birds that you are constantly checking out. It is yours now. It’s time that we got a new one for the school anyway. You will not be punished as long as you remember that I am not rewarding (奖励) you for your misdeed; I am rewarding you for your honesty.”
I couldn’t believe it! I wasn’t being punished and I was getting my own bird field guide — the very one that I had been saving up money to buy.
All that remains of that day is my memory and the lesson my teacher taught me. That lesson stays with me every day, and it will echo (回响) forever.
4. How was the author’s teacher in general?
A. She could get angry easily.
B. She often struck students with books.
C. She was generally strict and serious.

5. What did the author think when his teacher took down a book?
A. She would introduce the book.
B. She would hit him hard with it.
C. She would read an article from it.
D. She would give it to him as a prize.
6. How did the author feel when he received the field guide from his teacher?
A. Annoyed and alarmed. B. Confused and worried.
C. Surprised and thankful. D. Proud and confident.
7. What is the lesson the author’s teacher taught him?
A. Honesty pays off. B. Kill two birds with one stone.
C. Action speaks louder than words. D. Forgive others whenever you can.
D 5. B 6. C 7. A

In today’s busy world, lots of people often miss meals. Sometimes they do this on purpose. However, a new study shows that not having three regular meals a day might have a serious downside.
This study surveyed 24,000 people. About three in ten of them usually ate two meals a day. The findings showed that younger people, and those with less education were more likely to miss meals. People who missed meals were also more likely to smoke more, drink more, eat less healthy food, snack more, and take in less energy overall.
Compared to those who ate three meals regularly a day, participants (参与者) who ate one meal daily had a 30% higher risk of all-cause death and an 83% higher risk of cardiovascular (心血管的) disease (CVD) death. Those who ate two meals a day faced a 7% increased risk of all-cause death and a 10% higher risk of CVD death. Specifically, missing breakfast resulted in a 40% higher CVD death rate compared to those who didn’t. Missing lunch led to a 12% higher all-cause death risk, and not eating dinner brought a 16% higher risk.
Interestingly, even people who ate all three meals but had them too close together faced risks. Eating two meals within 4.5 hours was also connected with a higher risk of death from all causes. While some think that intermittent fasting (间歇禁食) is good for us, the researchers hold that regular meals are important for the body to work well and stay healthy.
8. What does the underlined word “downside” in Paragraph 1 probably mean?
A. Impression. B. Strength C. Event. D. Disadvantage.
9. Which is the percentage of the participants eating two meals a day?
A 12%. B. About 30%. C. 40%. D. About 80%.
10. How does the author mainly present the result of the study?
A. By following time order. B. By comparing goals.
C. By explaining reasons. D. By listing numbers.
11. Which of the following is the best title for the passage?
A. The Importance of Well-Timed Three Meals
B. Different Eating Habits Around the World
C. Breakfast: More Important Than Other Meals
D. Eating Two Meals Close Together Works Well
D 9. B 10. D 11. A
根据第一段中的“In today’s busy world, lots of people often miss meals. Sometimes they do this on purpose. However, a new study shows that not having three regular meals a day might have a serious downside.(在如今这个忙碌的世界,很多人经常不吃饭。有时他们会故意这样做。然而,一项新的研究表明,每天不规律吃三餐可能会有严重的downside。)”可知,前文提及人们常不规律吃饭,however表转折,说明这种行为存在不好的影响,由此可推知downside意为“弊端、不利方面”,与“disadvantage”意义相近。故选D项。
【9题详解】
细节理解题。根据第二段中的“This study surveyed 24,000 people. About three in ten of them usually ate two meals a day.(这项研究调查了24000人,其中大约十分之三的人通常一天吃两顿饭。)”
根据第三段中的“Compared to those who ate three meals regularly a day, participants (参与者) who ate one meal daily had a 30% higher risk of all-cause death and an 83% higher risk of cardiovascular (心血管的) disease (CVD) death. Those who ate two meals a day faced a 7% increased risk of all-cause death and a 10% higher risk of CVD death. Specifically, missing breakfast resulted in a 40% higher CVD death rate compared to those who didn’t. Missing lunch led to a 12% higher all-cause death risk, and not eating dinner brought a 16% higher risk.(与每天规律吃三餐的人相比,每天只吃一餐的参与者全因死亡风险高出30%,心血管疾病死亡风险高出83%。每天吃两餐的人全因死亡风险增加7%,心血管疾病死亡风险高出10%。具体来说,不吃早餐的人心血管疾病死亡率比吃早餐的人高出40%,不吃午餐会使全因死亡风险增加12%,不吃晚餐则会使风险增加16%。)”以及第四段中的“Eating two meals within 4.5 hours was also connected with a higher risk of death from all causes.(在4.5小时内吃两餐也与更高的全因死亡风险有关。)”
通读全文,尤其是第一段中的“However, a new study shows that not having three regular meals a day might have a serious downside.(然而,一项新的研究表明,每天不规律吃三餐可能会有严重的负面影响。)”和第四段中的“Interestingly, even people who ate all three meals but had them too close together faced risks.(有趣的是,即使是那些吃了三餐但三餐间隔太近的人也面临着风险。)”以及“While some think that intermittent fasting (间歇禁食) is good for us, the researchers hold that regular meals are important for the body to work well and stay healthy. (尽管有些人认为间歇禁食对人体有益,但研究人员认为规律进食对于身体的正常运转和维持健康至关重要。)”可知,文章核心介绍研究发现不规律吃三餐、三餐间隔过近都有健康风险,强调规律且适时吃三餐的重要性,所以“The Importance of Well-Timed Three Meals(三餐定时的重要性)”可以概括文章主题,适合作为最佳标题。故选A项。
D
When we are young, we learn that tigers and sharks are dangerous animals. We might be scared of them because they are big and powerful. As we get older, however, we learn that sometimes the most dangerous animals are also the smallest. In fact, the animal that kills the most people is one that you are familiar with: the mosquito (蚊子).
While it may seem that all mosquitoes are biters, this is not actually the case. Male mosquitoes eat plant nectar (花蜜) On the other hand, female mosquitoes feed on animal blood. When a female mosquito bites a human being, it transmits (传播) saliva (唾液) into the blood. This saliva may or may not contain a deadly disease. The result of the bite can be minor or as serious as death.
Because a mosquito can bite many people in its life, it can carry deadly diseases from one person to another very easily. More than 700 million people become sick from these diseases every year. At least 2 million of these people die from these diseases.
In some households, mosquito nets are placed over beds to protect people from being bitten. Mosquitoes have many natural enemies, like bats, birds, dragonflies, and certain kinds of fish. Bringing more of these animals into places where mosquitoes live might help to cut down the number of mosquitoes in that area. This is a natural solution, but it does not always work very well. Mosquitoes can also be killed with poisons or sprays (喷雾), but these sprays may also harm other plants or animals.
Although mosquitoes may not seem as scary as larger, more powerful animals, they are far more dangerous to human beings. But things are changing. It is highly likely that one day scientists will find a way to keep everyone safe from mosquitoes and the diseases they carry.
12. Why does the text mention dangerous animals like tigers and sharks?
A. To list the most dangerous animals in the world.
B. To attract readers’ attention and lead into the topic.
C. To prove that bigger animals are actually less dangerous.
D. To explain why people are scared of powerful animals.
13. What can we learn about mosquitoes?
A. Female mosquitoes might transmit diseases to humans.
B. The saliva of mosquitoes contains deadly diseases.
C. Male and female mosquitoes have the same eating habits.
D. Few people die from diseases carried by mosquitoes every year.
14. What does Paragraph 4 mainly talk about?
A. Scientists are making efforts to kill the mosquitoes.
B. There is no perfect solution to the mosquito problem.
C. Different ways to protect human beings from mosquitoes.
D. Natural enemies can help reduce the number of mosquitoes.
15. What’s the author’s attitude towards the future of solving the mosquito problem?
A. Doubtful. B. Negative. C. Unclear. D. Positive.
B 13. A 14. B 15. D
根据第一段中的“When we are young, we learn that tigers and sharks are dangerous animals. We might be scared of them because they are big and powerful. As we get older, however, we learn that sometimes the most dangerous animals are also the smallest. In fact, the animal that kills the most people is one that you are familiar with: the mosquito.(在我们小的时候,我们知道老虎和鲨鱼是危险的动物。我们可能会害怕它们,因为它们体型庞大且力量强大。然而,随着我们长大,我们会发现有时候最危险的动物往往也是体型最小的。事实上,致人死亡最多的动物是你所熟悉的:蚊子。)”可知,作者提及老虎、鲨鱼这类危险动物,是为了吸引读者注意力,进而引出本文的核心话题——蚊子才是最危险的动物。故选B项。
【13题详解】
细节理解题。根据第二段中的“When a female mosquito bites a human being, it transmits saliva into the blood. This saliva may or may not contain a deadly disease. The result of the bite can be minor or as serious as death.(当雌蚊子叮咬人类时,会将唾液注入血液中。这种唾液可能含有也可能不含有致命的疾病。叮咬的后果可能轻微,也可能严重到致人死亡。)”可知,雌性蚊子有可能会将疾病传播给人类。故选A项。
根据第四段中的“Mosquitoes have many natural enemies, like bats, birds, dragonflies, and certain kinds of fish. Bringing more of these animals into places where mosquitoes live might help to cut down the number of mosquitoes in that area. This is a natural solution, but it does not always work very well. Mosquitoes can also be killed with poisons or sprays, but these sprays may also harm other plants or animals.(蚊子有许多天敌,比如蝙蝠、鸟类、蜻蜓以及某些种类的鱼类。
根据最后一段中的“But things are changing. It is highly likely that one day scientists will find a way to keep everyone safe from mosquitoes and the diseases they carry.(但情况正在发生变化。很有可能有一天,科学家会找到一种方法,让所有人都免受蚊子及其传播疾病的伤害。)”可知,作者认为科学家很可能会找到解决蚊子问题的方法,由此可见作者对解决蚊子问题的未来持积极的态度。故选D项。
第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
How to deal with anxiety before exams? Here are some dos and don’ts that might help you with your exams.
Don’t arrive too early.

If you’ve worked hard, and you are ready, you don’t need this. Reviewing on the day of the exam might make you feel like you’ve missed out on some topics. ____18____ So you had better just be rested and relaxed for the exam and do the best that you can.
Do eat well.

B. The only thing that matters is you and the exam.
C. We tend to forget to eat when we’re too anxious, but eating is essential.
D. When your nervous system is not rested, it is normal to feel more anxious.
E. And to be honest, if that’s the case, it’s too late, and this will make you anxious.
F. You probably arrive early before an exam, but getting there too early is not a good idea.
G. You want to make better use of your time, so you may think you should study later at night.
F 17. D 18. E 19. C 20. B
小标题“Don’t arrive too early. (不要到得太早)”点明了本段的建议。F选项“You probably arrive early before an exam, but getting there too early is not a good idea. (你可能在考试前会早到,但到得太早并不是一个好主意)”位于小标题之下,作为段首句,既承认了考生通常会早到的普遍习惯,又直接点明“太早”的弊端,与标题呼应,并自然引出下文对“太早”可能导致的问题(与朋友讨论增加焦虑)以及“合适时间”(提前5-10分钟)的详细说明。该选项是展开论述的起始句。故选F项。
【17题详解】
上文“Lack of sleep is a huge factor in increasing anxiety. (睡眠不足是加剧焦虑的一个主要因素)”点明了睡眠不足与焦虑增加的直接关联。D选项“When your nervous system is not rested, it is normal to feel more anxious. (当你的神经系统没有得到休息时,感到更焦虑是正常的)”顺承上文,从生理机制角度解释了为何睡眠不足会增加焦虑:因为神经系统未得到休息。这为上文“huge factor”提供了科学解释。下文“Also, you will have a harder time concentrating. (而且,你也会更难集中注意力)”则补充了睡眠不足的另一个负面影响。D选项与上下文逻辑紧密。故选D项。
【18题详解】
上文“Reviewing on the day of the exam might make you feel like you’ve missed out on some topics. (在考试当天复习可能会让你觉得自己漏掉了一些主题)”描述了考试当天复习可能导致的心理感受(感觉遗漏知识点)。E选项“And to be honest, if that’s the case, it’s too late, and this will make you anxious. (而且老实说,如果真是那样,已经太晚了,而这会让你焦虑)”承接上文,进一步阐述了这种感受的后果:意识到遗漏也为时已晚,从而引发焦虑。“if that’s the case”指代的就是上文“feel like you’ve missed out on some topics”这种情况。 下文“So you had better...”
小标题“Do eat well. (要吃好)”点明了本段的建议。上文“Don’t forget to have a good meal. (别忘了好好吃一顿)”重申了吃好饭的重要性。C选项“We tend to forget to eat when we’re too anxious, but eating is essential. (当我们过于焦虑时,我们往往会忘记吃饭,但吃饭是至关重要的)”解释了为何需要强调“吃好”——因为焦虑状态下人们容易忽视吃饭,而吃饭本身又是必不可少的。这为下文阐述“为什么吃饭重要”(为大脑供能、降低焦虑)做了铺垫。故选C项。
【20题详解】
上文“Before and during an exam, don’t overthink about the result(考试前和考试期间,不要过度思考结果)”和“You should not think about your grades, your chances of getting into college, and your family’s opinion, etc. (你不应该考虑你的分数、你上大学的几率、你家人的看法等等)”列举了在考试期间应避免思考的各类与结果相关的外部因素。B选项“The only thing that matters is you and the exam. (唯一重要的是你和这场考试)”顺承上文,给出了一个积极、集中的替代性思维,将注意力从分散的外部担忧收回到“自己”和“当前考试”本身,符合“关注当下”的建议。下文“Try to separate yourself from anything else. (试着把自己从其他任何事情中分离出来)”则是实现B选项所描述状态的具体方法。故选B项。

阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。
A
A day can only catch the surface of one of the biggest cities — London.
Afternoon
For the afternoon, you have a choice.
3. Which of the following shows a creative reuse of historical architecture?
A. Palace of Westminster. B. The Anchor & Hope.
C. Shakespeare’s Globe. D. NoMad London.
B
