On my recent trip to Sabah, Malaysia with the Earth Travel team, the activity I was most looking forward to was the Ocean Walk. I was beyond excited for the fifteen-minute walk!
The best part about this activity was that no previous knowledge was required, anyone from the age of ten upwards could take part and you didn’t even need to know how to swim, let alone have a diving license. There were people in our group who had had bad experiences with water in the past, but they were relieved and reassured (放心的) after the guide’s explanation. As for me, I couldn’t wait any longer-I was ready to go!
The water was quite cold, but the sight we were welcomed with was enough to take our mind off the cold or any other worries we might have. As I looked around, I couldn’t believe my eyes. The visibility was better than I expected and I felt like I was in a National Geographic magazine! There were fishes of all shapes, sizes and colours swimming all around me; I had to take a minute to take it all in.
A few minutes into the Ocean Walk, we saw the most beautiful fish in all the colours of the rainbow and I could have spent the whole day there admiring their beauty. Lucky for us, there were divers all around us documenting this once-in-a-lifetime experience with action cameras, and the pictures and videos they took were given to us on a CD at the end of the activity.
As our fifteen minutes came to an end, I could say that among all the amazing activities we took part in during our trip, this was my favourite. I was blown away by how interactive the whole experience was and the guides truly did an amazing job making us feel completely at ease.
4. Why did the Ocean Walk strongly appeal to the author?
A. It was beginner-friendly. B. It lasted for a short time.
C. It had experienced guides. D. It was designed for his age.
5. How did the author feel about the underwater scenery?
A. It inspired him to study the ocean.
B. It made him forget all his worries.
C. It reminded him of a magazine photo.
D. It was less impressive than expected.
6. What did the divers do for the tourists?
A. They drove the fishes to the tourists.
B. They guided the tourists underwater.
C. They gave the tourists diving lessons.
D. They recorded the tourists’ experience.
7. Why does the author write the text?
A. To promote a tourist spot. B. To compare underwater activities.
C. To share his personal story. D. To call for environmental protection.
C
A mother sea lion nurses her baby on the beaches of the Galapagos. A whale breaks the waves off the coast of Antarctica. These are sights that all travelers enjoy, taking photos crazily and posting them online as soon as Wi-Fi allows. But for a growing body of eco-minded travelers, those photos are only as valuable as they are beneficial to the sights they capture (捕捉). “I don’t just want to see this beautiful planet and its creatures,” says Brandy Werner, an eco-traveler from McHenry, Illinois. “I want my adventures to help protect them.” Werner is one of around 105.3 million sustainable US travelers preferring vacations that are devoted to giving back to the environment just as much — if not more than — they take.
Ecotourism is difficult to define because, in reality, it’s no one type of trip. Instead, it’s any form of tourism that focuses on traveling to natural environments with a mission to learn about and, ultimately, help protect those environments. So, while some travelers book stays at eco-friendly places or go camping, others take advantage of offerings provided through eco-travel companies and tour operators.
For instance, when Werner set out for the Galápagos Islands, she did so with Lindblad Expeditions, a company that operates eco-tours throughout remote and natural lands. Traveling from island to island on the ship, Werner learned and saw how each species of animals live in its unique environment. And aboard the trip was a team of naturalists devoted to teaching Werner and all of the ship’s passengers to learn about delicate ecosystems.
“We want to help people get out there and explore, develop a better understanding of the Earth as well as its wonders and challenges and engage them in finding solutions,” says Sven-Olof Lindblad, founder of Lindblad Expeditions. “It’s one thing to be in New York City reading about climate change. It’s a completely different experience being in the Arctic and seeing the conditions of the ice and the animals there. It gives people an completely different relationship to the subject matter and can encourage change in a way that wouldn’t be possible otherwise,” Lindblad says.
8. What do we know about Brandy Werner?
A. She doesn’t like going sightseeing. B. She prefers taking photos of animals.
C. She wants to protect nature while traveling. D. She favors posting photos of animals online.
9. What is paragraph 2 mainly about?
A. Ways to take eco-tours. B. Advantages of eco-tours.
C. Different types of ecotourism. D. A brief introduction to ecotourism.
10. What can travelers do with Lindblad Expeditions?
A. Learn about nature from experts. B. Camp on remote and natural lands.
C. Explore minerals on different islands. D. Play with various species of animals.
11. What does Lindblad imply in the last paragraph?
A. The earth is too complex to understand. B. Climate change is an unavoidable issue.
C. Reading books about climate change matters. D. Exploring nature helps protect the environment.

Autonomous taxis are taking over San Francisco. Waymo, which launched the service only in 2023, may now have over a fifth of the city’s ride-share market.
The rise of robotaxis raises a question: when tech automates a profession, what happens to human workers? You might think that drivers are likely to lose their jobs. In fact, the rise of autonomy has played out in two different ways. First, it has raised overall taxi demand in San Francisco, limiting job losses. Second, it has targeted a profitable part of the market, attracting customers who want something new and are willing to pay a bit more for it.
Take the size of the market first. According to official data, in 2024, the number of people in San Francisco working for “taxi service” companies grew by 7% compared to 2023, and total pay in the industry rose by 14%. Figures from the city indicate the number of regular taxi trips is about the same as last year. It can still be hard to find a yellow taxi at peak times. “As self-driving cars enter the marketplace, they will actually expand the market,” David Risher, chief executive of Lyft, a human-powered taxi company, has predicted.
The extra riders come from different places. Waymo claims that people visit San Francisco to take its taxis. More probably, residents are using private cars less. When the choice was a Lyft or an Uber, people may have preferred to drive themselves, because the risk of having to get into an awkward conversation was too great. In a driverless taxi you can sit in silence. Since Waymo’s launch, the number of private cars, adjusted for population, has fallen. Now, overall spending on taxis appears to be growing especially quickly compared with that in other cities.
Autonomous taxis are still a long way from being a mass-market product. Waymos are comfortable and generally clean, but they are perhaps 20%-40% more expensive than a Lyft or an Uber. They are also slow; you cannot tell a robot to “step on it!” Over time, robotaxi companies may iron out these flaws by, for example, cutting prices, but do not expect autonomous taxis to take over the market soon, in San Francisco or anywhere else.
12. How does the author look at the growth of robotaxis in San Francisco?
A. It changes the way taxi drivers work. B. It increases customers’ transport costs.
C. It doesn’t hurt taxi drivers as expected. D. It doesn’t attract customers as predicted.
13. What can we say about Risher’s prediction?
A. It reflects his career goal clearly. B. It agrees with market observations.
C. It is based on his company’s business. D. It focuses on innovative car technology.
14. What is paragraph 4 mainly about?
A. Ways Waymo uses to attract riders.
B. The impact of Waymo on private car sales.
C. The competition among leading taxi companies.
D. Reasons for the expansion of the robotaxi market.
15. What do the underlined words “iron out these flaws” in the last paragraph mean?
A. Meet these standards. B. Beat these companies.
C. Solve these problems. D. Follow these instructions.

Davy and Marcos are twins (双胞胎) and they are in the same second-grade class. They look almost the same, but everyone knows Marcos is shy and loves drawing, while Davy is outgoing and good at sports.
One Monday morning, Marcos woke up with a fever. He looked at his art textbook sadly — he had been looking forward to the art class this week, because they were going to learn to draw cats that day. Davy patted (轻拍) his shoulder softly. “Don’t worry. I’ll help you take notes for the art class, and we can draw a cat together tonight,” he said. Then Davy hurried to school.
In art class, when Miss Mastiff noticed Marcos’s seat was empty and turned to Davy, Davy stood up a little nervously and said, “Miss Mastiff, Marcos is ill. I want to sit in his seat today. I hope to feel closer to him when I learn to draw the cat he’s been waiting for.” The classroom was quiet for a second, and then everyone laughed. Lolly, who sat in front of them, turned around and gave him a thumbs-up. Miss Mastiff nodded gently and said, “That’s a sweet idea, Davy.” During the art class, Davy sat in Marcos’s seat and drew a cute cat with great care — he kept every detail the teacher mentioned in mind, and even wrote small notes next to the drawing. Miss Mastiff walked over and looked at his work with a warm smile.
At recess (课间休息), Lolly ran to him and said happily, “Your cat is so lovely! Marcos will be so excited when he sees it.” Davy’s face lit up. “I hope so! I’m not good at drawing. I’ll tell Marcos every single thing about today’s class tonight.” Just then, Miss Mastiff walked over and said, “You’re such a thoughtful brother, Davy. Marcos will love your drawing and your notes.”
注意:(1)续写词数应为150个左右;
(2)请按如下格式在相应位置作答。
Davy was a little embarrassed, his eyes filled with relief.

B. It made him forget all his worries.
C. It reminded him of a magazine photo.

【答案】4. A 5. B 6. D 7.

【答案】8. C 9. D 10. A 11. D

【答案】12. C 13. B 14. D 15. C

【导语】文章主要介绍旧金山自动驾驶出租车的发展现状。
【12题详解】
细节理解题。根据第二段“You might think that drivers are likely to lose their jobs. In fact, the rise of autonomy has played out in two different ways. First, it has raised overall taxi demand in San Francisco, limiting job losses. (你或许会认为司机很可能会失业。但事实上,自动驾驶技术兴起带来了两方面不同的影响。首先,它提升了旧金山出租车市场的总体需求,从而减少了岗位流失。)”可知,自动驾驶出租车的出现并没有像人们预期的那样导致人类司机大量失业受损。
【13题详解】
推理判断题。根据第三段““As self-driving cars enter the marketplace, they will actually expand the market,” David Risher, chief executive of Lyft, a human-powered taxi company, has predicted. (有人驾驶出租车公司Lyft的首席执行官戴维・里舍预言:“当自动驾驶汽车进入市场时,它们实际上会扩大整个市场规模。”)”和上文“in 2024, the number of people in San Francisco working for “taxi service” companies grew by 7% compared to 2023, and total pay in the industry rose by 14%. ( 2024年,旧金山在 “出租车服务” 类公司就业的人数相比2023 年增长了7%,该行业的总薪资上涨了14%。)”可知,Risher 预言自动驾驶汽车会扩大打车市场。上文给出的官方就业、薪资数据印证了市场确实在扩张,由此可知,他的预言和市场观察结果一致。
【14题详解】
主旨大意题。根据第四段“The extra riders come from different places. (额外的乘客来自不同的地方。)”是本段的主题句。随后文章列举了游客特意来体验、当地居民为避免与司机尴尬交流而减少私家车使用等现象,详细解释了为什么会有这么多额外的乘客,由此可知,第四段主要介绍了自动驾驶出租车市场扩张的原因。
【15题详解】
词句猜测题。根据上文“Autonomous taxis are still a long way from being a mass-market product. Waymos are comfortable and generally clean, but they are perhaps 20%-40% more expensive than a Lyft or an Uber. They are also slow; you cannot tell a robot to “step on it!”

注意:(1)续写词数应为150个左右;

【答案】范文
Davy was a little embarrassed, his eyes filled with relief. He scratched his head and smiled shyly, grateful that his love for his twin brother was appreciated by Miss Mastiff and his classmates. He kept the cat drawing flat inside his schoolbag the whole day to keep it from getting damaged. Whenever he had free time, he went over the teacher’s drawing tips and added more notes. Drawing was never Davy’s strong point, but he spared no effort to record every detail of the class, hoping to bring Marcos the full art experience he had been looking forward to.
As soon as school was over, Davy ran home quickly, holding his drawing in his hand. He burst into Marcos’s bedroom, where his brother lay in bed with a high fever. At the sight of the cute cat drawing and clear notes, Marcos’s face brightened instantly. Davy sat beside him and described the art class in great detail. They picked up pencils and drew another cat together. Touched by Davy’s thoughtfulness, Marcos hugged his brother tightly. Though stuck at home, Marcos felt he had attended the wonderful art class with Davy.
