I recently lost my best friend Arnold in an accident while moving to our new home in Arizona. Arnold was an 8-month-old pig who taught me so much about love and companionship (陪伴).
Arnold didn’t know he was a pig—he thought he was just another member of our family. He believed he was loved by all.
He loved to sleep on my leg as I sat on the sofa watching TV. He also helped me with my housework. Just being at my feet, interested in what I was doing made the housework enjoyable. My parents always said that Arnold and I were so intimate that he had become the brother that I never had in our family. It seemed that we could no longer have any kind of conversation in our family or with our friends without Arnold being a main topic. My classmates came to visit Arnold and couldn’t wait to play with him. Arnold went almost everywhere with us—Pet’s Mart, birthday parties, and Christmas vacations. He loved riding in the car or the shopping basket. Arnold had become such an important part of our life.
On the day we left our old home town, we had a going-away lunch with our friends from church. Everyone there just went out to the truck where Arnold and our other pets were and said goodbye. Arnold trusted that I can take care of him and get him to his new home. However, along the way, the wind knocked our truck out of control (控制). We lost a big part of our family that day because Arnold was killed. I feel terrible for not being able to protect Arnold. However, I will be forever thankful for the warm memories (记忆) of him.
4. According to the passage, we can know the writer ________.
A. had got an elder brother B. treated Arnold as a family member
C. got on badly with his parents D. liked talking to Arnold about his friends
5. The underlined word “intimate” in Para. 3 probably means “________”.
A. close B. common C. strange D. confident
6. Which of the following is TRUE about Arnold?
A. It was good at doing housework. B. It was popular among the writer’s friends.
C. It liked sitting on the sofa watching TV. D. It died soon after moving to Arizona.
7. How does the writer feel now?
A. Angry and painful. B. Tired and worried.
C. Surprised but calm. D. Sad but thankful.
What are some of the difficulties of being blind? Two hundred years ago, a little boy was born in France. He was Louis Braille, a happy and lovely baby.
Sadly, when he was three, something bad happened. While playing in his father’s shop, Louis hurt his eyes on a sharp thing. Although he got the best care at that time, he was still completely blind and could not see all the lovely colours and beautiful things around him.
Louis was a kind boy. As he grew older, he wanted to help other blind people read. However, it was really hard for him. The first way he tried was to poke (戳) holes in paper and read by touching raised (凸起的) letters with his fingers. But it was too slow to read the letters and few blind people could do it well. After that, he tried many other ways.
One day, Louis heard about someone using dots to represent (代表) sounds. He immediately found its advantages and he spent three years improving upon this idea. Finally, he made a special alphabet and blind people could feel it with their fingers. Each letter was made with a number of dots and people could feel them by their fingers.
The alphabet that Louis made is called “Braille”. Today many blind people use “Braille” to help them to read. This is how the Braille Alphabet looks:
8. What is Paragraph 2 mainly about?
A. When and where Louis was born.
B. Why Louis couldn’t see anything.
C. What Louis was most interested in.
D. How Louis grew up in his father’s shop.
9. Why did Louis stop using the first way?
A. Because it needed a lot of paper.
B. Because the letters were too small to touch.
C Because it took too much time to read the letters.
D. Because it was too dangerous to touch the letters.
10. From the Braille Alphabet, which of the following represents the word “hope”?
A. B.
C. D.
11. Which words best describe Louis Braille according to (根据) the passage?
A. Brave and polite. B. Cute and confident.
C. Quiet and friendly. D. Helpful and creative.
D
No matter how you do it booking holidays can be a headache. It used to require a visit to a travel agent (代理人). Later, online travel agents appeared, allowing people to plan trips from the comfort of their own homes. With the help of AI, now they can easily deal with the brainwork, too. For example, Expedia has introduced Romie—“an AI-powered travel buddy”. And another company, Trip.com, has brought out TripGenie.
Many people expect AI to free them from boring work. This may explain why AI trip planners are drawing attention. They’re perfect for those who go mad when booking holidays.
But are these AI booking agents reliable (可靠的)? Some have tried them out. When a couple asked TripGenie to find a romantic (浪漫的) hotel in Paris, its top suggestion was to live near the airport. “Well, perhaps the AI agent is still in its early days,” they concluded.
Tools like TripGenie are facing competition from AI companies, too. OpenAI, for example, is testing its Operator. The AI bot is supposed to “mimic(模仿) a human’s use of the Web”. When asked about that Paris trip, it suggests places with a view of the Eiffel Tower. Some researchers think OpenAI might soon share the online travel agents’ market.
However, AI booking agents have their own drawbacks. For example, they sometimes make mistakes. Air Canada got in trouble after its AI chatbot wrongly promised a user a discount (折扣). Could AI agents be fooled into booking a more expensive flight? Would anyone feel safe giving his or her credit card information to an AI agent then?
AI agents may also have difficulty understanding the difference of people’s tastes. Someone may think it’s not romantic to choose a metal tower at all. One couple—the groom Australian and the bride French—recently got married on a flight between their countries. For them, a hotel room by Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport might have suited them better.
12. Why are AI trip planners becoming popular?
A. Because they never make mistakes.
B. Because they are cheaper than human agents.
C. Because they understand personal tastes well.
D. Because they can help people avoid boring work.
13. How does the writer show us the problems of AI booking agents?
A. By listing numbers. B. By giving examples.
C. By setting a scene. D. By making a comparison.
14. What does the underlined sentence in paragraph 3 imply?
A. AI booking agents were invented too early. B. AI booking agents are very helpful.
C. Booking hotels with AI is convenient. D. AI booking agents need improving.
15. What can be the best title of the passage?
A. What can AI do for us? B. Is AI a good choice to book holidays?
C. How does AI help people book holidays? D. Why is AI popular with people today?

例文
2025 in Review, 2026 in Vision
Looking back on 2025, I have experienced many warm and meaningful moments.
The best place I went was the city library, where I read many interesting books and attended a science lecture. I also helped with housework, like washing dishes twice a week, which made me more responsible.
For 2026, I plan to get better grades by reviewing lessons every day and asking teachers for help. To improve my health, I will play basketball three times a week. I will keep working hard to make all my plans come true. I believe a bright future is waiting for me.
