Middle-school aged children who use the Internet, social media or video games for
more than an hour each day during the school week have significantly lower grades and
test scores, according to a study at Rutgers University-New Brunswick.
Researchers say the findings give parents and children a threshold for using
entertainment-related technology-no more than one hour daily on school days and four
hours a day on weekends.
"Interactive technology is widely used to improve children's educational access and
achievement,"said lead author Vivien."During the COVID-19 pandemic,technology is
important for remote learning. But there's a growing concern that too much technology use,
particularly for entertainment, may affect children's educational development by holding
them back from learning activities."
In the research, about 10,000 first-year middle school students were surveyed and
followed.Their average age was 13.5 years. The results showed that children who used the
Internet for entertainment four or more hours daily were four times more likely to skip
school than those who didn't.Boys used interactive technology for entertainment more
than girls.Boys also performed worse and showed lower school engagement levels than
girls.
"Such findings are important, particularly in the recent online learning in countries
throughout the world,"said Vivien."In a learning environment mixed with the Internet,it
is easy for children to move across educational and entertainment platforms during
learning to other activities."
Vivien said children in study who used a bit of technology experienced less boredom
at school, potentially due to the positive effects of participation in social media for students'
relationship building and advancing children's cognitive (development.
试卷第3页,共8页
The findings suggest that parents place time limits on their children's interactive
technology use,and that parents and teachers should help children to develop effective
time management and self-regulation skills to reduce their dependence on technology.
28.What's the finding of the study?
A.The Internet is important for children's learning.
B.More than an hour online a day hurts the learning.
C.School kids should keep away from the Internet.
D.Staying online does more harm to boys than girls.
29.What does the underlined word "threshold"in Paragraph 2 refer to?
A.Punishment.
B.Reward.
C.Guideline.
D.Target.
30.What conclusion did Vivien draw from the study?
A.Children under 13 should be kept from online
B.Schools have the duty to limit online lessons.
C.Online learning helps children manage time.
D.A bit use of technology is helpful to children
31.Where is this text most likely from?
A.An educational journal.
B.An entertainment magazine.
C.Atechnology report.
D.A tour guidebook.

The human body possesses an efficient defense system to battle with flu viruses. The
immune system protects against the attack of harmful microbes by producing chemicals
called antibodies, which are programmed to destroy a specific type of microbe. They travel
in the blood and search the body for invaders ()When they find an invasive
microbe, antibodies attack and destroy any cell that contains the virus. However, flu
viruses can be a terrible enemy.Even if your body successfully fights against the viruses,
with their ability to evolve rapidly, your body may have no protection or immunity from
the new ones.
Your body produces white blood cells to protect you against infectious diseases.Your
body can detect invading microbes in your bloodstream because they carry antigens in
their proteins.White blood cells in your immune system, such as T cells, can sense
antigens in the viruses in your cells.Once your body finds an antigen,it takes immediate
action in many different ways. For example,T cells produce more antibodies, call in cells
that eat microbes, and destroy cells that are infected with a virus.
One of the best things about the immune system is that it will always remember a
microbe it has fought before and know just how to fight it again in the future.Your body
can leam to fight so well that your immune system can completely destroy a virus before
you feel sick at all
However, even the most cautious people can become infected.Fortunately, medical
scientists have developed vaccines ()which are weakened or dead flu viruses that
enter a person's body before the person gots sick,These viruses cause the body to produce
antibodies to attack and destroy the strong viruses that may invade during flu season.
32.Why does flu pose a threat to the immune system?
试卷第4页,共8页
A.Microbes contain large quantities of viruses.
B.Antibodies are too weak to attack flu viruses.
C.The body has few effective ways to tackle flu
D.It's hard to keep pace with the evolution of viruses.
33.What does the underlined word "antigens"refer to in paragraph 2?
A.The cell protecting your body from viruses.
B.The matter serving as the indicator of viruses.
C.The antibodies helping to fight against viruses.
D.The substance destroying cells infected with viruses.
34.How do vaccines defend the body against the flu viruses?
A.They strengthen the body's immune system.
B.They battle against weakened or dead viruses.
C.They help produce antibodies to wipe out viruses.
D.They expose the body to viruses during flu season.
35.Which of the following is a suitable title for the passage?
A.Antibodies Save Our Health
B.Vaccines Are of Great Necessity
C.Infectious Flu Viruses Are Around
D.Human Body Fights Against Flu Viruses

Physicist and Nobel Prize winner Richard Feynman developed a clever learning
method known as the Feynman Technique. It involves explaining what you're learning to
others.By teaching what you've learned from memory, you engage in active recall.36.
It also ensures that you understand the topic, because you can only explain an idea if you
truly understand it.The technique consists of four repeatable steps.
To begin with, choose a concept or topic you wish to fully understand.37.
The
more interested you are,the faster you'll grasp it.Moreover,a personally interesting topic
will keep you motivated and engaged.
38.Write notes and explain it in a way that makes sense to a five-year-old.If
you'd rather avoid actually teaching someone, you can just teach it to an imaginary
audience. But it works much better if you use a real person. They'll be able to let you know
when something isn't clear.
While teaching, you may discover gaps in your understanding.39.
Review your
notes, reread books,or seek external help to ensure you have a complete understanding of
the context before moving forward.
Now that you fully grasp the concept, test your understanding by trying to teach it to
another person. This will help you identify any remaining areas of uncertainty you need to
revisit.
The Feynman Technique is a great way for kids and grown-ups to learn.40.You
need to actively think about the problem instead of passively reading or listening to
someone else. However, with great efforts in mastering this method, you'll see your
learning results improve quicker than ever before.

and she couldn't expect her younger brother Tom,who was sleeping like a pig,to answer
the Phone. She quickly put on a coat and ran to the living room. When she picked up the
receiver,on the other end came the warm greeting,"Good morning!"

mother's birthday?!

dirty clothes on the sofa. The floor hadn't been cleaned for a few days since her mother
had to work all this week.
She looked at the clock again and was sure that she still had enough time to prepare a

My Favourite Traditional Chinese Food
My favourite traditional Chinese food is dumplings. With a history of over 1,800 years, dumplings are usually made with thin dough wrappers and various fillings like pork and cabbage. They are shaped like golden ingots, symbolizing wealth.
I love dumplings not only for their delicious taste but also because they carry family warmth. Every Spring Festival, my family gathers to make dumplings together, which is my most cherished moment.
第二节 读后续写(参考范文)
Para.1
Jane hurried to Tom's room and shared her plan with him. Tom jumped out of bed immediately when he heard about the surprise for their mother. They divided the tasks: Jane would clean the living room and wash the dirty clothes, while Tom would sweep the floor and decorate the house with some colorful balloons they had saved. They worked busily, singing and laughing. By noon, the house was tidied up and looked warm and beautiful. Then they started to prepare a simple but delicious lunch for their mother.
Para.2
"Happy birthday, Mum!" Jane and Tom shouted when their mother opened the door. Their mother was shocked and then moved to tears. She looked at the clean house, the delicious food on the table and the balloons around. Just then, the doorbell rang. It was the cake ordered by their father. The three of them sat around the table, enjoying the cake and the happy moment. Their mother hugged them tightly, saying it was the best birthday she had ever had.
