D. Beginners in poetry and writing. B Jeff Steele was born in Texas and grew up in Mississippi. A gifted singer, Jeff began writing songs when he was in high school. “I was going to be the next Lionel Richie,” he recalls with a smile. In time, however, Jeff began to write songs, and in the early 1980s formed a group called The Steeles. Within a decade, not only had the group signed a recording contract with Daywind Records, but Jeff became a staff writer for the label and moved his family to Nashville, Tennessee. Throughout the 1990s, Jeff penned a string of hits for Daywind, including four No.1 songs for The Steeles. Not only does Jeff write for his group, but he also has his songs recorded by other artists that include Greater Vision, The Florida Boys, The Perrys, The Gaither Vocal Band and others. Jeff’s efforts have collected four BMI Awards for radio singles by Karen Peck & New River, The Inspirations, and Legacy Five, along with a popular song by The Steeles. That song also received a Dove Awards nomination (提名), as did “Not One Word” by The Collingsworth Family. What has changed for Jeff regarding songwriting over the last three decades? “I used to write everything alone, but now I enjoy co-writing, especially with my son, Brad.” The Steeles’ latest StowTown Records release, Be the Reason, contains multiple songs penned by the father and son, with each having an unusual feel. Perhaps this is because Brad — at age 30 — is writing as a young man from the point of looking forward, and Jeff — at age 63 — is writing from a pen of wisdom and experience. This may also be part of the reason that their songs are connecting with all of us: because we, as listeners, can benefit from both generations. 4. Who might Lionel Richie be? A. A staff writer. B. A friend of Jeff’s. C. A well-known singer. D. A member of The Steeles. 5. What does Paragraph 2 mainly focus on? A. Jeff’s essential role in his group. B. Jeff’s influence on other artists. C. Jeff’s secret to success as a singer. D. Jeff’s extraordinary achievements. 6. What is special about Be the Reason? A. It was completed by Bra d himself. B. It shows intergenerational interaction. C. It displays people from all walks of life. D. It received a Dove Awards nomination. 7. Which of the following can best describe Jeff? A. Talented and devoted. B. Tough and generous. C. Academic and friendly. D. Ambitious and imaginative. C There are many projects aiming to refill or broaden the biological diversity of wild animal populations that are in jeopardy. Few are more vital to survival than efforts to save the Tasmanian devil (袋獾). Since the mid-1990s, devils have been facing Devil Facial Tumour Disease (DFTD) that spreads rapidly and has caused a sharp decline in populations. In response to this threat, the Save the Tasmanian Devil Program (STDP) was established, with the vision of ensuring the survival of an enduring and ecologically functional population of Tasmanian devils in the wild. One significant initiative of the STDP occurred in 2012 and 2013 when scientists and conservationists relocated a disease-free group of 28 devils to Maria Island off the east coast of Tasmania. The aim was to create a self-sustaining group that could serve as a backup population. Over the next four years, the devil population on Maria Island grew rapidly, reaching around 100 individuals, the predicted carrying capacity for the island. So far so good. But new studies headed by Dr Vincent Scoleri from the University of Tasmania have revealed serious consequences for the island’s brush-tail possum (刷尾负鼠) population. The introduction and rapid rise of the devils, a top predator (捕食者), has dramatically reduced the survival and population of possums, less so in forested areas, but greatly in grassland areas. Yet that’s not all bad news, according to the scientists. The possums themselves arrived on Maria Island only in the 1950s and have spread to new habitats such as the grasslands, where they became plant-and-animal eaters by hunting shearwater adults and chicks in nesting sites. The scientists note that restoration of native top predators in such ecosystems could be a beneficial management tool when other prey (猎物) species have become overdominant from a lack of predation. 8. What does the underlined part “in jeopardy” in paragraph 1 mean? A. Within reach. B. Beyond belief. C. Under threat. D. Upon arrival. 9. Why were some devils moved to a new place? A. To support the survival of the species. B. To train them to live a sustainable life. C. To stop the spread of the deadly disease. D. To enhance the biological diversity there. 10. What did the new studies find after the re-introduction of devils? A. Plant and animal eaters decreased dramatically. B. Possums moved from grasslands to forests. C. Devils brought disaster to many native species. D. Devils greatly impacted possums’ survival. 11. What can we infer from the last paragraph? A. Devils harm all native species. B. Possums are a recent arrival. C. Top predators can restore ecosystem balance. D. Possums will survive without predators. D While humans may think of agriculture as a uniquely human achievement, ants have been farming their own food for millions of years, a new study has revealed. Researchers found that ants began farming fungi (真菌) 66 million years ago, around the time an asteroid (小行星) struck Earth and caused a global mass extinction. While the mass extinction was destructive for many species, including dinosaurs, it presented an opportunity for fungi. With plentiful rotten plant matter on the ground, ants developed an evolutionary partnership with fungi that still endures today. Over time, this relationship grew stronger, with ants improving their agricultural practices and developing advanced methods 27 million years ago, a process similar to the domestication of crops by humans. “Ants have been practicing agriculture and fungus farming for much longer than humans have existed,” Ted Schultz, lead author of the new paper, said in a statement. “We could probably learn something from the agricultural success of these ants over the past 66 million years.” Fungi-farming ants are particularly diverse in the Americas and the Caribbean, with nearly 250 different species engaged in this practice. The research, published in the journal Science, analyzed genetic data from hundreds of ant and fungi species to create detailed evolutionary trees. These genetic timelines played an important role in revealing the evolution of ants’ agricultural techniques. The study builds on Schultz’s 35 years of research into ant-fungus relationships, during which he and his team collected thousands of genetic samples from Central and South America. By comparing wild fungal species with ants’ domesticated fungus, the researchers determined that ants have been farming fungi since shortly after the asteroid impact. The ants have bacteria that can produce antibiotics (抗生素) to fight off diseases attacking their fungi. “Somehow, over the course of 66 million years, they’ve been able to continue to control crop disease and develop antibiotics that continue to be effective,” Schultz told Newsweek. “We’ve only been using antibiotics for less than100 years and we have major problems keeping up with resistance and developing new antibiotics.” 12. What can be inferred from paragraph 2? A. Ants began to co-exist with fungi 27 million years ago. B. Around 250 species of ants worldwide took part in fungi farming. C. Ants used more advanced ways of practicing agriculture than humans. D. Dead plant matter provided conditions for fungi to expand. 13. What does paragraph 3 mainly focus on? A. The methods in the research process. B. The research findings on fungi farming. C. The analysis of the genetic timeline. D. The impact of the asteroid event. 14. Which statement would Schultz probably agree with? A. Human history is much longer than that of ant agriculture. B. The antibiotics produced by ants could be used to treat humans. C. Further study could be focused on how to keep antibiotics effective. D. It’s meaningless for humans to follow ants’ success story in farming. 15. What’s the best title for this text? A. Ants are smarter than humans B. Agriculture isn’t unique to humans C. Ants provided solutions for human farming D. Ants mastered agriculture long before humans You might have heard that keeping a journal is a great way to record your thoughts and understand your emotions. Typical journaling involves only writing. ____16____ And because there are so many ways to express yourself in an art journal, it’s a wonderful creative outlet for both beginners and more experienced creatives. The focus on self-expression is where an art journal differs from a sketchbook (素描本). A sketchbook can have elements of art journaling, particularly when it comes to drawing or painting. ____17____ Art journaling is a way to practice self-care. It encourages you to take a little time for yourself — even if it’s just for 15 minutes a day. When you look back at what you’ve written or drawn, you can gain valuable insight into the challenges in your life. The point of creating a visual journal is not to make every page a masterpiece. ____18____ Remember, it’s just for you! Art journaling is completely customizable (可定制的) depending on your skills and interests. Many people choose to use mixed media and decorate their pages with drawing and painting materials. ____19____ The most important thing when beginning your art journal, however, is selecting the right book. ____20____ Size is one. If you enjoy making large drawing, for instance, then a bigger book might be best. Art journals look great when you feel the page, so whatever size you choose, make sure it combines well with the way you like to work. Another characteristic to think about is the type of pages in the book. Since it’s a good chance you’ll be using mixed media, select a book whose paper can handle both drawing and painting. A. Also, you become aware of your style. B. There are many considerations when it comes to picking your journal book. C. This way, you’ll save not only your money, but also your nerves. D. Others prefer sticking with a single medium that they’re comfortable with. E. But for those who are more visually-minded, an art journal is a great alternative. F. But a sketchbook doesn’t have to include imagery that relates to your inner thoughts. G. You simply need to enjoy the act of creating something without worrying about if it looks good. A few years ago, I gave in to anxiety. These flaws left me extremely shy and insecure. I kept to myself and rarely interacted with others. Though stuck in self-doubt, I was dearly loved by my father, who always comforted and encouraged me patiently. One warm spring, my father brought home several young trees and asked each child to plant one. As luck would have it, I got the weakest of them all, a thin, dying little tree with yellowish leaves. “Whoever grows the strongest tree — or whoever tries their best — will get a wonderful gift,” my father promised with a gentle smile. I also hoped to win the gift, yet low self-esteem weighed heavily on me. Looking at my pitiful little tree, I couldn’t help seeing myself in it — weak, flawed, and destined to be left behind. The thought only deepened my despair. “Even if I tried, this tree would never stand a chance.” I muttered bitterly. Convinced I would end up failing, I refused to make any effort. I planted the tree carelessly and watered it just twice. Later, I stayed away from the corner on purpose. My brothers tended their trees devotedly to compete for the prize, while I pretended not to care. Weeks slipped past before I knew it. Out of a strange urge, I plucked up courage to check on my tree. Much to my surprise, the ignored little tree grew far stronger than my brothers’. My father said gently, “See? This little tree was the weakest of all, yet it has become the strongest. Never judge a life by how it starts.” Then he handed me the promised gift. For the first time, a ray of hope welled up inside me. One quiet moonlit night, unable to fall asleep, I resolved to go outside and look after my tree. 1. Stepping to the yard corner, I saw someone familiar tending my tree. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ From that night on, my life was completely changed. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 2026年高二下学期第一次阶段性检测英语试卷 满分150分 时间120分钟 注意事项: 1. 1. 根据第一段中“A gifted singer, Jeff began writing songs when he was in high school. “I was going to be the next Lionel Richie,” he recalls with a smile.(Jeff 是个有天赋的歌手,高中时就开始写歌了。“我将成为下一个Lionel Richie,”他笑着回忆道)”可知,Jeff曾经梦想成为下一个Lionel Richie,可推知,Lionel Richie是一位著名歌手。故选C。 【5题详解】 主旨大意题。根据第二段的“Throughout the 1990s, Jeff penned a string of hits for Daywind, including four No.1 songs for The Steeles.(在整个20世纪90年代,杰夫为Daywind创作了一系列热门歌曲,其中包括The Steeles的四首冠军歌曲)”以及“Jeff’s efforts have collected four BMI Awards for radio singles by Karen Peck & New River, The Inspirations, and Legacy Five, along with a popular song by The Steeles. That song also received a Dove Awards nomination (提名), as did “Not One Word” by The Collingsworth Family.(杰夫的努力为Karen Peck&New River、The Inspirations和Legacy Five的广播单曲以及The Steeles的一首流行歌曲赢得了四项BMI奖。这首歌也获得了鸽子奖提名,柯林斯沃斯家族的Not One Word也获得了提名)”可知,本段主要讲述了Jeff在1990年代为Daywind唱片公司创作了一系列热门歌曲,包括四首排名第一的歌曲,以及其他艺术家演唱的多首热门歌曲。这表明这段主要关注的是Jeff作为歌曲作者取得的非凡成就。故选D。 【6题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段中“The Steeles’ latest StowTown Records release, Be the Reason, contains multiple songs penned by the father and son, with each having an unusual feel.(The Steeles的最新StowTown Records发行专辑《Be the Reason》包含多首由父子二人共同创作的歌曲,每首歌都有一种不同寻常的感觉)”以及后文对父子俩创作角度的描述,可知《Be the Reason》这张专辑的特别之处在于它展现了父子两代人的互动和合作。 根据第一段中“A gifted singer, Jeff began writing songs when he was in high school.(Jeff是一位天赋异禀的歌手,他在高中时就开始写歌)”以及后文对他音乐生涯和创作成就的详细描述可知,Jeff是一位既有才华又致力于音乐事业的人。 A。 C There are many projects aiming to refill or broaden the biological diversity of wild animal populations that are in jeopardy. C 9. A 10. D 11. 根据第一段末尾“Since the mid-1990s, devils have been facing Devil Facial Tumour Disease (DFTD) that spreads rapidly and has caused a sharp decline in populations.(自20世纪90年代中期以来,袋獾一直面临着袋獾面部肿瘤病(DFTD),该病传播迅速,导致种群数量急剧下降。)” 和第二段开头“In response to this threat, the Save the Tasmanian Devil Program (STDP) was established, with the vision of ensuring the survival of an enduring and ecologically functional population of Tasmanian devils in the wild.(为了应对这一威胁,制定了“拯救袋獾计划”(STDP),其愿景是确保塔斯马尼亚袋獾在野外的持久和生态功能种群的生存。)” 根据第二段中的“The aim was to create a self-sustaining group that could serve as a backup population.(其目的是创建一个能够自我维持的群体,作为后备群体。)” 根据第三段中的“The introduction and rapid rise of the devils, a top predator (捕食者), has dramatically reduced the survival and population of possums, less so in forested areas, but greatly in grassland areas.(作为顶级捕食者的袋獾的引入和迅速崛起,极大地降低了负鼠的生存率和种群数量,在森林地区较少,但在草原地区却大大减少。)” 由文章最后一段“The scientists note that restoration of native top predators in such ecosystems could be a beneficial management tool when other prey (猎物) species have become overdominant from a lack of predation.(科学家们指出,当其他猎物物种因缺乏捕食而变得过度主导时,在这种生态系统中恢复本土顶级捕食者可能是一种有益的管理工具。)” D While humans may think of agriculture as a uniquely human achievement, ants have been farming their own food for millions of years, a new study has revealed. Ants mastered agriculture long before humans 【答案】12. D 13. A 14. C 15. 根据第二段“While the mass extinction was destructive for many species, including dinosaurs, it presented an opportunity for fungi. With plentiful rotten plant matter on the ground, ants developed an evolutionary partnership with fungi that still endures today. (虽然大灭绝对包括恐龙在内的许多物种都是毁灭性的,但它为真菌提供了机会。由于地面上有大量腐烂的植物,蚂蚁与真菌形成了一种进化伙伴关系,这种关系一直持续到今天。)”可知,大灭绝让土地上出现了很多腐烂的植物,这却给真菌大量繁殖提供了条件。故选D。 【13题详解】 主旨大意题。根据第三段“The research, published in the journal Science, analyzed genetic data from hundreds of ant and fungi species to create detailed evolutionary trees. 故选A。 根据最后一段““Somehow, over the course of 66 million years, they’ve been able to continue to control crop disease and develop antibiotics that continue to be effective,” Schultz told Newsweek. “We’ve only been using antibiotics for less than100 years and we have major problems keeping up with resistance and developing new antibiotics.” (不知何故,在6600万年的时间里,他们能够继续控制作物疾病,开发出仍然有效的抗生素,”舒尔茨告诉《新闻周刊》。“我们使用抗生素才不到100年,我们在跟上耐药性和开发新抗生素方面存在重大问题。”)”可知, Schultz认为,人类在保持抗生素的持续有效性方面不如蚂蚁,因此以后的研究集中在这一领域,Schultz可能会同意这一观点。故选C。 【15题详解】 主旨大意题,通读全文,尤其第一段“While humans may think of agriculture as a uniquely human achievement, ants have been farming their own food for millions of years, a new study has revealed. Researchers found that ants began farming fungi (真菌) 66 million years ago, around the time an asteroid (小行星) struck Earth and caused a global mass extinction. You might have heard that keeping a journal is a great way to record your thoughts and understand your emotions. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 Stepping to the yard corner, I saw someone familiar tending my tree. It was my father, his tall figure bathed in the soft moonlight. He knelt down gently, carefully removing weeds and loosening the soil around the tree with great patience. At that moment, everything clicked — no wonder the weak, dying little tree I had abandoned had thrived so unexpectedly. While I was trapped in self-pity and consumed by my flaws, my father had been silently guarding both the tree and my fragile confidence. Tears blurred my vision, mixed with deep regret and warm gratitude for his silent love. From that night on, my life was completely changed. I stopped hiding from my imperfections or believing I was destined to fail. Instead of yielding to a flawed start, I chose to embrace life with courage and optimism. I began to take good care of the tree every day and actively reached out to communicate and bond with others. As the little tree grew steadily taller and firmer, I also gained solid confidence and inner strength. Looking back, I came to realize a disadvantaged beginning couldn’t define future growth, and above all, love is the best nourishment of life. 词汇激活 行为类 ①拥抱:embrace/hug ②获得:gain/obtain ③意识到:realize/be aware of 情绪类 ①轻柔地:gently/softly ②感激:gratitude/ appreciation 【点睛】[高分句型1] While I was trapped in self-pity and consumed by my flaws, my father had been silently guarding both the tree and my fragile confidence.
