When autumn arrives, chrysanthemums (菊花) bloom in bright colors like yellow and purple. They are beautiful to look at, but in China, these flowers do more than just look pretty. They are a symbol of health, peace, and inner strength.
For a very long time, chrysanthemums have been used in Chinese food and drinks. People add them to tea, soups, and even hot pot. Chrysanthemum tea is very common. Many believe it is good for health and can help with headaches. The flowers also make dishes smell and taste better.
Chinese scholars (学者) have loved chrysanthemums for centuries. They are called the “Hermit of All Flowers” because they stand for a noble spirit and a calm mind. They bloom in late autumn when other flowers are gone, showing their strong and quiet character. The poet Tao Yuanming once wrote, “I pick fence-side chrysanthemums at will; Carefree, I see the southern hill.” This shows how chrysanthemums bring peace to people’s hearts.
During the Double Ninth Festival, chrysanthemums are also important. People drink chrysanthemum wine and eat chrysanthemum cakes to keep away bad luck.
If you look at Chinese art, you will find chrysanthemums in many places-on porcelain, wood, cloth, and even stamps. In Chinese culture, they are not just flowers. They carry deep meaning in art, poetry, and festivals, always standing for a calm and noble spirit.

Scene 1
“Shi, stop singing to the flowers! You have a visitor,” Shi’s little sister Mui-Mui called. Shi stopped in the middle of the song and said sorry to the flowers. The sweet flowers and green leaves moved lightly as he hurried to the house. He saw a well-dressed stranger there. Shi bowed politely.
“The emperor has heard of your gardening skills. He has sent seeds (种子) to one hundred of the best gardeners in China, including some others from your village. Here is yours. Take care of it and bring it to the palace (皇宫) in one year,” said the man. He dropped a small black seed into Shi’s hand. Then he bowed and left.
“What an honor,” Shi said, with his eyes wide open.
Scene 2
Shi planted the special seed in his best pot. “Hello, little one,” he said in a soft quiet voice.” Our home is not as fine as the palace, but I hope you like it here.”
After a month, no green sprout (芽) had pushed through the soil.
“Little one, what’s wrong? Do you miss your home?” Shi sang as he watered it, taking care not to pour too much water.
Months later, Mui-Mui stared into the pot. “That seed is ill,” she said.
Shi took the pot from her. “Don’t worry, little one. You take your time,” Shi said to it. He moved the pot to the cool shade and began to sing.
Scene 3
But the seed did not grow. Shi moved the seed to another pot. After more months of waiting, Shi’s stomach started to hurt. Then his head began to ache. He ate very little. He couldn’t sleep and often got up in the night to check on the seed. Every day, he dragged himself outside to water his plants, but he was too tired to sing. His healthy garden began to die.
Scene 4
One day, Mui-Mui took the water bucket from Shi’s hands. “I will water the seed while you rest,” she said. Shi took the bucket back. “It is my duty.”
“Shi, take one of your own plants to the emperor. He won’t know it didn’t come from that seed,” Mui-Mui said.
“No. Even if he did not know, I would.”
“This is a silly contest! You are worried sick about that seed. You don’t even sing any more.” Mui-Mui went back to the house.

A To buy Shi’s flowers. B. To teach Shi gardening skills.
C. To give Shi a special task from the emperor. D. To invite Shi to visit the imperial gardens.
29. How did Shi treat the seed in Scene 2?
A. He paid no attention to it. B. He gave it too much water.
C. He asked his sister to take care of it. D. He cared for it gently and patiently.
30. What can we infer from Scene 3?
A. The seed started to grow quickly. B. Shi became physically ill from worry.
C. Shi’s health improved greatly. D. Shi’s garden became more beautiful.
31. What does Scene 4 mainly show us about Shi?
A. He is ready to give up the contest. B. He is willing to cheat the emperor.
C He values honesty and responsibility. D. He thinks the contest is silly.
D
Art has always been a reflection of human creativity and imagination. With the development of artificial intelligence (AI), the world of art is going through a big change. AI painting is changing the way we create and enjoy art.
People use computer programs to create artwork online, which is called AI painting. These computer programs learn from large collections of existing paintings, drawings and photos.
One main advantage of AI painting is that it can produce artwork much faster than a human artist. While a human might need hours or even days to finish a painting, AI can create a similar piece in just minutes. Another advantage is that AI can make artwork that is difficult or impossible for humans to make. For example, some AI programs can create 3D models of objects or scenes from 2D pictures. Also, AI can combine different styles to create special pieces, which would be very challenging for a human artist to do alone.
However, people also have worries about AI’s influence in the art world. Some say that art made by AI doesn’t have the same emotional depth (情感深度) as art created by humans. ▲ Others worry that the wide use of AI in art could lead to “homogenization”—where styles become more and more similar.
In short, AI painting is giving new shape to the art world. It is a useful tool for artists to explore new ideas. As we continue to learn about this exciting new trend (风尚), it will be very interesting to see how AI painting develops and influences the future of art.
32. According to the passage, what can some AI programs do with 2D images?
A They can turn them into music. B. They can use them to train human painters.
C. They can create 3D models based on them. D. They can make them more emotional.
33. In Paragraph 3, how does the writer describe the advantages of AI painting?
A. By giving examples and making comparisons. B. By asking questions and giving answers.
C. By using metaphors and similes (比喻). D. By telling a personal story.
34. Which of the following can be put in ▲ ?
A. So, they believe AI is better at creating real pictures.
B. They believe art is not just about making pretty pictures, but also about expressing human experiences and feelings.
C. For example, they can mix different styles very easily.
D. As a result, some fear that AI will take the place of artists completely.
35. What is the writer’s attitude toward AI painting?
A. He thinks the disadvantages are more than advantages. B. He is only excited about its speed.
C. He worries it will take the place of all artists. D. He sees it as a useful tool for art.

During the holiday, I went to visit my grandparents with my parents in the countryside. When Grandma said she had been very busy with farm work, I immediately decided to stay overnight at her house. The thought of planting seeds and watering the fields made me really excited. That night, I could hardly fall asleep.
“Sweetie, time to get up.” Grandma’s soft voice woke me up. I looked at the clock-it was only 5:30in the morning!
I asked, “Grandma, why do we have to get up so early?”
Because the hens just laid their eggs. Now is the best time to collect them,” she explained.
The morning air was cool and fresh. But as we walked toward the chicken coop (笼子), a strong, unpleasant smell came out. I held my breath and followed Grandma closely. She opened a small window and reminded me, “You have to be quick but gentle. Don’t scare the hens.”
I saw a hen guarding two large eggs on the straw. Her sharp beak looked a bit scary. I took a deep breath and slowly reached out my hand. Suddenly, the hen stood up! I let out a small cry but quickly picked up the eggs before she could peck (啄) me.
The eggs felt warm in my hands-so different from the cold ones we usually take out of the fridge.
Later, we watered and fertilized (施肥) the vegetables in the fields, picked two pumpkins, and collected a small basket of chilies. By the time Grandma called me for dinner, I was already sound asleep on the sofa.
When I finally sat down to enjoy the simple meal I realized for the first time that every single dish was the fruit of hard work. That day I had not only helped on the farm but also learned to respect the labour that feeds us.

In the past few years, there has been a growing trend of buying fluffy toys (毛绒玩具). These soft toys have become popular not only among children, but also among an increasing number of adults. People of all ages love these fluffy objects, especially when they feel worried, lonely or unsafe. Why do these fluffy toys make us feel so close to them? As researchers continue to discover the secret behind the popularity of fluffy toys, they have found the main thing is that they provide people with emotional satisfaction. First, they provide an opportunity for people to relax and reduce stress when they hug or snuggle with them. Perhaps it’s part of human nature to find something soft to touch when we need comfort. Since we were babies, we have always looked for things to make us feel better when we’re sad. The cute look of soft toys, their soft feel on our skin, or the nice smell of a Jellycat toy can immediately comfort us and calm us down.
Secondly, these “comfort toys” do more than just make us feel good. On one hand, it is also a great way for adults to retrieve (重拾) their childhood memories. On the other hand, it’s becoming increasingly difficult for adults to express their true feelings nowadays. Unlike kids, grown-ups face a lot of stress and challenges, such as family responsibilities, money worries or daily troubles. For many, fluffy toys can act as warm companions (陪伴) that are similar to a mother’s comfort. They can calm us down and bring us peace.
The passage is about why _______50_______. Researchers believe the main reason for their popularity is _______51_______. Firstly, touching soft toys can help people _______52_______. We are always looking for something soft to touch which is a natural human behavior since infancy (婴儿). Secondly, for adults, these toys help them retrieve their childhood memories but also act like a mother who _______53_______. They can calm us down and bring us peace in emotional problems.

A. They can turn them into music. B. They can use them to train human painters.
C. They can create 3D models based on them. D. They can make them more emotional.
33. In Paragraph 3, how does the writer describe the advantages of AI painting?
A. By giving examples and making comparisons. B. By asking questions and giving answers.
C By using metaphors and similes (比喻).

When I finally sat down to enjoy the simple meal, I realized for the first time that every single dish was the fruit of hard work.

Thank you!
【答案】Dear teachers and classmates,
I’m very glad to stand here and talk about building a green school with you.
To go green at school, we can start with small daily actions. First, let’s save resources. Use both sides of paper and turn off lights when leaving classrooms. Save water when we clean our classroom. Second, keep our school clean—stop littering and pick up plastic waste around us. We can also make environmental posters and hold interesting activities to call on more classmates to join us.
Small steps can make a big difference. Let’s act now to build our green school together!
Thank you!
