【中考真题】
Inside the hall, the door was shut, and the key lay on the glass stand. Poor Alice, who was about one foot high after taking some drink, found a cake on the floor. She went up and soon ate all the cake.
“How strange! How tall I am!” said Alice. She looked down at her feet—they seemed so far off. In fact, she was now over nine feet high, which meant she still couldn’t get through the door. She sat down, and had a good cry till there was a large pool all round her.
Suddenly, she heard the sound of feet not far off. It was the Rabbit that had come back, with a fan in his hand. Alice felt so in need of help from someone, that when he came near, she called out, “If you please, sir....” The Rabbit started as if shot, dropped the fan and ran off as fast as possible.
Alice picked up the fan and as the hall was hot, she fanned herself. “Dear, dear! How strange all things are today! I do wish to get out of the hall! ” she said.
Then she noticed herself in the glass—she was now not more than two feet high, and still shrinking quite fast. That was the fan! She realized this and dropped it at once, or she would shrink to the size of an ant soon.
Alice was in a sad fear at the quick change. “Things are worse,” said the poor girl, “I was never so small as this. How can I get out?” As she said these words, she lost her footsteps and was up to her chin (下巴) in salt water—her own tears.
Just then Alice noticed a mouse swimming towards her.
“Will it be useful now to speak to this mouse? All things are so strange here. I should think maybe it can talk. At least there’s no harm to try.” So she swam up.

One day in autumn Squire Gordon, my master, went on a trip into town. John, my caretaker, went with him. I pulled the cart. The weather was rainy and windy, but we travelled happily.
Gordon’s business took a long time. We didn’t leave until late afternoon. The wind was then much higher. My master said to John, “I have never been out in such a storm!” Mr Gordon and John could not see well in the rain.
We came to a wooden bridge. It was very nearly dark. We could just see that the water was over the middle of the bridge. But as that happened sometimes when the floods were out, master did not stop. The moment my feet touched the first part of the bridge, I felt sure there was something wrong. I dare (敢于) not go forward, and I made a dead stop. “Go on, Beauty,” said my master, and he gave me a touch with the whip (鞭子), but I dare not move. He gave me a sharp cut and I jumped, but I dare not go forward.
“There’s something wrong, sir,” said John, and he got out and tried to lead me forward. “Come on, Beauty.” But I knew that the bridge was not safe.
Just then the man on the other side saw us.
“Hey! Halloo! Stop!” he cried.
“What’s the matter?” shouted my master.
“The bridge is broken in the middle, and part of it is carried away. If you go onto it, you’ll be into the river.”
“Thank you for saving us, Beauty!” said John. He gently turned me round to the right hand road by the river side. It grew darker and darker, stiller and stiller.
When we returned home the Squire told Mrs Gordon, “Black Beauty saved our lives. He knew the bridge was dangerous.”
John took me to the stable. Oh! What a good supper he gave me that night! What a nice bed of straw! I was glad of it, for I was tired.

Bostic hurried the four girls into the fresh air. “Anybody else in there?” Bostic asked.

White Fang was almost fully grown. He didn’t feel frightened of the grown dogs any more.
One day, however, when White Fang was eating a large piece of meat, Baseek forgot how dangerous White Fang could be. He ran at White Fang and tried to steal the piece of meat. White Fang attacked him and drove him away. Then, as if remembering that Baseek could also be dangerous, White Fang moved away. This made Baseek then make a bad mistake. Thinking that he had won the fight, he tried again to steal the piece of meat. White Fang attacked him again. White Fang bit him many times and tore one of his ears badly. Baseek knew he was beaten and went away.
The months passed and White Fang grew bigger and stronger. All the dogs were afraid of him. He was always alone or with his nice master Gray Beaver. When White Fang was three years old, there was a bad famine. There was nothing to eat. The dogs began to eat other dogs. Then the men began to eat their dogs. Afraid, the dogs ran off into the forest where they sometimes died of hunger.
White Fang, too, went into the forest. He was able to catch small animals, such as squirrels, better than the dogs could. He was three-quarters wolf and had learned how to hunt when he was a cub. He was even able to kill an old wolf, weakened by hunger. One day, while he was trying to find food in a village, he saw Lip-Lip. They fought for a long time. White Fang was stronger now and killed Lip-Lip. That dog would never trouble him again.
There were no people or any food in the village and he moved on. He traveled for many days until he came to another village. This one was different. There was the smell of food. There were the sounds of happy people and animals. Gray Beaver was not there, but his wife, Kloo-Kooch was. She welcomed White Fang with a meal of fish. The famine was over for him. We entered the cave. In the far corner, I could see heaps of gold coins. That was Flint’s treasure which we came to Treasure Island to find, and which cost the lives of seventeen men from the Hispaniola. And how many others? How many ships had gone to the bottom of the sea? How many brave men had been killed for this? Perhaps no man alive could tell.
The next day we started transporting the gold to the Hispaniola. It took us a few days and all that time we heard nothing of the three surviving mutineers (叛变者). We decided to leave them on the island. We couldn’t risk another mutiny and did not want to take them home and then send them straight to prison. As we left, the three pirates came out of hiding and knelt down on the beach, with their arms raised, begging to be taken. The doctor shouted to them about the stores and where to find them.
Then at last, one sunny morning, we sailed out to the nearest port in Spanish America. Before afternoon, Treasure Island had gone. When on land, Long John Silver escaped with a sack of gold coins. I think we were pleased to be without him. We found some new seamen for the ship at the port, and then had a good journey home. Only five of the men who had sailed from Bristol with the Hispaniola returned with her. We all took a large piece of the treasure. Some used it wisely, but some did not.
I shall never go to sea again, or return to that terrible island, but in my worst dreams I still hear the sharp, high cries of the parrot: “Pieces of eight! Piece of eight!”

You might know Jane Austen’s name from books or even the 10-pound note in the UK. She was a famous British writer (1775-1817) whose clever stories about society still charm readers today. This year is the 250th anniversary of her birth, and people worldwide are celebrating her life and work.
Born in England, Austen loved reading and writing from a young age. She wrote six novels, two of which were published after she passed away.
Austen’s books focus on themes like gender (性别) , power, education and marriage from a woman’s point of view. For example, Pride and Prejudice tells the story of Elizabeth Bennet and her four sisters, who face society’s ideas about love and marriage. In Emma, a young woman tries to match—make friends in her village—but her plans don’t always work!
Some people see Austen only as a romance writer, but many now celebrate her as “a social commentator (评论家) of her time”, said The Teen Magazine.
In Austen’s time, women had few rights. They couldn’t vote until 1918 or have control over their own money until 1870. For many, marrying a rich or powerful man was the only way to have a safe future.
But Austen’s heroines (女主角) were different. They spoke up for themselves and wanted independence. “Her female characters are strong and honest about their feelings,” Moa Aashacka, a 23-year-old Swedish student, told AFP. Marilyn Joice, a Jane Austen expert, agreed. “She’s writing about people and their problems, their difficult families and the questions of why, and even if, women should marry. Those issues...are still important now.”
Because her stories talk about timeless problems and ideas, Austen’s novels are still loved around the world and have been made into many movies and TV shows.
1.Why do some people see Austen as a social commentator?
A.Because she spoke about women’s struggles of her time
B.Because she mainly wrote about historical events.
C.Because she fought against most forms of unfairness.
D.Because she stressed the dark side of society.
2.How are Jane Austen’s heroines different from other women of her time?
A.They all have happy marriages.
B.They value independence and freedom.
C.They are beautiful and come from rich families.
D.They don’t have to worry about life a lot.
3.Why are Austen’s works still loved today?
A.There are not many works about women. B.The characters she created are realistic.
C.The themes she explored are timeless. D.Her works are full of imagination.
4.What can we learn from the passage?
A.Austen’s novels have nothing to do with modern society.
B.Women in Austen’s time had the same rights as men.
C.Austen only wrote novels about her own experiences.
D.Austen’s works have a lasting influence on literature and culture.
【答案】1.A 2.B 3.C 4.D

At 15, I was kicked out of school. Many people might have thought that was the end for me. Instead of making me feel hopeless, my mother gave me advice that changed my life, “We all have our strengths—you just need to find yours.” So, I went to Greece and started working on boats.
During my second trip across the Atlantic, my captain (船长) asked me, “Can you navigate?” I said, “No, I left school before I even learned long division (除法)!” But he said seriously, “What if I fall into the sea? Who will check the maps and guide the ship to the next port? Don’t just watch—act!” That day changed everything. Even though I’d always hated math, I learned to navigate in two days.
At 21, I joined the Whitbread Round the World Race as a cook. There were 230 crew members, but only three were women. I saw the truth: over 35 years of the race’s history, mixed teams had almost never included female navigators. I thought, “No man will ever let me navigate their boat.” That thought hurt, but it also gave me an idea: I’ll make my own all-female team.
I sold my house to get money, found an old broken boat that I named Maiden, and I gathered 12 women who wanted to prove that women could do this too. People said we’d fail, even die, but we won two tough parts of the race and came second overall. When we finished, 50,000 people cheered for us. We didn’t know then how many women we’d inspire (激励).
Now, Maiden is sailing around the world again for five years. My life has been lots of ups and downs. But Maiden taught me: even when you are against the tide (潮流), keep going and you can find your way.

At the horse fair, I noticed a man with a young boy by his side. When he came up to me and the other horses, I saw his eye rest on me. I still had good mane and tail, so I wasn’t bad-looking. I picked up my ears and looked at the man.
“Look at this horse, Willie.” said the man to his grandson.
“Poor old fellow.” said the little boy. “You can see he is a well-mannered horse.”
“What is the lowest price you will take for him?” said the man to the salesman.
“Five pounds, sir.” replied the salesman, and so the man bought me for five pounds, without thinking.
“Oh, grandpa,” said Willie one day, “I am so glad you bought him!”
“So am I,” replied Willie’s grandpa, “but now we must find a good place for him.”
One day, Willie and his grandpa took me to a pretty house. About ten minutes later, three ladies came, looked at me and asked questions.
Willie’s grandpa said, “if you don’t like him, send him back after six months.”
The next morning, a young man came for me. When he saw my knees, he said to Willie’s grandpa, “Sir, I am surprised the ladies want a damaged horse.” “Well,” said Willie’s grandpa, “looks aren’t everything, young man. This is a very good horse.”
Therefore, the young man led me to my new home, my new groom came into the stable. When he was cleaning my face, he said, “This is just like the star that Black Beauty had... It must be Black Beauty! Why, Beauty! Do you remember me? Little Joe Green that almost killed you?”
I was glad to see him again. In the afternoon, Joe told one of the ladies all about me. He said, “I’m sure this horse is Squire Gordon’s old Black Beauty.”

Palazzo grew up in the countryside of Brazil. As a child, she helped her family grow crops, which inspired her deep interest in agriculture. She often wondered how farmers could grow more food to feed growing populations. This curiosity stayed with her as she grew older and finally led her to explore agriculture beyond her home country.
A turning point came when Palazzo learned about China. China, known for feeding its huge population with limited land, attracted her. Palazzo earned a full scholarship to study at the Agriculture School of Renmin University of China. During field trips with her international classmates, Palazzo was deeply impressed by China’s agricultural creation. In a village in Jinhua, Zhejiang province, she saw how local family farms used smart technology to grow more food in small spaces. “It’s amazing how they turn limited space into high productivity,” she said. Palazzo also noticed how China’s markets were filled with different foods—from tropical fruits in the south to grains in the north.
She realized that both Brazil and China shared a common goal: improving land efficiency. “Farming isn’t just about planting seeds,” she explained. “It’s about economics, technology, and even cultural traditions.”
After graduating, Palazzo returned to Brazil and now leads a team in an agricultural company, where she actively works on agriculture business and Her language skills and cultural knowledge she gained in China help her bridge the two countries. “My time there taught me to see problems from different angles,” she said.

Bright and early on the morning of our first full day in Antarctica (南极洲), L’Austral’s Captain Fabien’s voice woke us up as it came through a loudspeaker, “if we looked outside right now,” he said, “we’d see a beautiful sea of icebergs (冰山) in the golden sunlight.” My sister and I jumped out of bed, looking outside in amazement as we sailed past giant pieces of ice. We saw a group of whales feeding on smaller fishes. Next door, my parents were also waking up to the sights of a new day in Antarctica. Over breakfast, my sister and I excitedly told them about the whales we saw from our room that morning.
You might non think of Antarctica as a “family vacation” choice, but tour companies like Adventures by Disney make it possible!
Our trip started when we flew to Buenos Aires and explored the beautiful Argentine capital for a day. After leaving Buenos Aires, we flew to Ushuaia on an Adventures by Disney plane. Then, it was the journey toward the Drake Passage by ship. After a speedy Drake Passage crossing, we reached Antarctica early, giving us extra time to explore.
To those who don’t know about Adventures by Disney, the fact that you can experience Antarctica with Disney might be surprising. During the trip. there were thoughtful acts, from stamped postcards to send from an Antarctica post office to a champagne (香槟) party on our final stop of the journey. I have heard of many wars which have started for the funniest reasons, but can you imagine two countries fighting because of boiled eggs?
Lilliputians thought Bleuscu was preparing a new attack very soon and they had more ships than we had here on Lilliput. I was worried, too. I was also sorry for the emperor and his people because they always treated me well. So I decided to go to the emperor and offer him my services.
“To thank you for your kindness, Emperor, I am ready to put my life in danger to protect Lilliput and all the Lilliputians. I will fight the Blefuscans for you!”
The emperor thanked me for my offer and understood that with my ‘great’ help, Lilliput had a good chance of winning the war. So we immediately began to prepare a plan of action.
The island of Blefuscu is separated from Lilliput by a narrow channel of water. I planned to swim across and catch the Blefuscan fleet before they attacked Lilliput. I knew that the Blefuscans did not know anything about me. So I had the great advantage of surprise. When they saw me coming across the water for the first time, you can imagine their fear.
I swam across the channel with some ropes. When the enemy saw the Man Mountain they all screamed and jumped off their ships into the sea. And so as planned, I caught the Blefuscan fleet of ships. I tied their ships to my ropes and pulled the ships back to Lilliput.
I arrived back on Lilliput pulling the enemy’s ships behind me. My plan was a success! I immediately became a national hero and the emperor gave me the highest honour in the country:I became a ‘nardac’(which in the Lilliputian language means a very important person).

When Antonio told Bassanio to go to town and borrow money, Bassanio visited Shylock. He asked Shylock to lend him thirty thousand dollars and said he would pay it back in three months.
“How do I know you can pay it back?” asked Shylock.
Bassanio smiled. “My friend Antonio will help me. If I do not pay you in three months, he will do it for me.”
Now it was Shylock’s turn to smile. Perhaps this would be a chance for him to hurt his enemy in some way. “I understand that Antonio has some ships in different parts of the world,” he said, “and that when they come back, he will have plenty of money. However, there are many risks in his business. There are pirates (海盗), and there are storms, and everything could be lost. But I am not worried about him because I know that Antonio is a good man. Thirty thousand dollars is a lot of money, but I believe he will help you.”
Shylock went to visit Antonio. When he saw Antonio, he remembered how much he hated him. However, he did not show his hatred (仇恨). He tried to be friendly.
“It is thirty thousand dollars for three months, isn’t it?” he asked.
Antonio and Bassanio agreed.
“What interest (利息) will you pay?” he asked.
After that, Antonio and Shylock were arguing (争论) about interest. Antonio called Shylock some bad names.
“He looks like a good apple,” he told Bassanio, “but inside he is rotten.”
Bassanio was worried. Perhaps Shylock would not lend him the money, so he spoke to Antonio. Antonio was sorry.
“Would you still lend us the money?” Antonio asked Shylock.
“Come with me to the judge,” said Shylock, “so that he can write the contract (契约). I will lend you thirty thousand dollars for three months. You will pay no interest. Just for fun, however, let’s agree that if you do not pay me on time, you will give me one pound of your flesh (肉) from wherever I choose to take it!”
Antonio agreed. He even told Bassanio that he thought Shylock was kind because he was not making them pay interest, but Bassanio did not agree.
“I won’t let you do that for me,” he insisted. “The risk is too big. I would rather stay poor and in debt (欠债)。”

In 1937, my father, who was almost 20 years old, started a long journey. He traveled a thousand miles across China with his university, Zhejiang University, during the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression (抗日战争). The Chinese government wanted to keep the university students safe because they were important for the country’s future. As the university planned for the journey, the Head Librarian of Zhejiang Library, asked the university to take a collection of books with them.
The books were called “Siku Quanshu”. Created in the 18th century, this was a huge encyclopedia (百科全书) with 2.3 million pages and about 997 million words. It was so important that plans were made to protect it at any cost, even though it added another 230 boxes to the students’ cargo.
The journey was not easy. Students and teachers were facing the dangers from air attacks. They were always tired and hungry. They had to sleep on the ground in old temples but they continued their classes whenever they could. To protect the books, they tried to move by boat or truck whenever possible; at other times, they would put the boxes into carts (手推车). Sometimes the students had to carry some of the books in their backpacks. One scary moment was when a box of the Siku Quanshu books fell into a river. They quickly saved the books and dried them in a local temple.
After 1,400 miles and 28 months on the road, the university group finally reached a small town called Zunyi in Guizhou province. They stayed there in simple classrooms and dorms, until the war moved deeper into China. To further protect the Siku Quanshu, the books were hidden in a nearby cave, guarded by university staff. The books made it through the war in surprisingly good condition and were sent back to Zhejiang Library.
This amazing story shows how a group of young students and their teachers did everything they could to protect their culture’s treasures. They faced many dangers and hardships, but they never gave up. They worked together to keep their knowledge safe.

She tells me that she and Tom built their ornament collection piece by piece. She smiles as we leave with the box.
We first met Tom and Gee in the early days of our marriage. Someone had taken away our rubbish to the rubbish bin, and Jim and I had wondered who. Then one day we noticed him: an elderly man who lived across the street—Tom.
I made cookies and left them on a bench outside with a thank-you note. When we got home that day, we found a letter from Tom, explaining when he’d been fighting a war, neighbors had taken away the rubbish for his young wife, Gee, and he never forgot.
A few years later, Tom died. We wrote a letter to Gee, telling her how thankful we were to have known him. She wrote back and told us she still talked to Tom every day.
These days, we’re planning a move. The house that seemed so huge six years ago is filled with furniture, books, toys and, of course, people. We have packed all the moving boxes, but we can’t seem to put up the “For Sale” sign on the lawn. It’s not just Gee. It’s the man who lets our kids pick peaches off the tree in his front yard. It’s the ladies who leave baskets full of food for our kids.
Jim and I agree to wait until January. This Christmas, we’ll decorate our tree with Gee’s ornaments. Maybe I want to show our thanks to Tom for teaching us what it means to be a neighbor.

根据第二段中“Someone had taken away our rubbish to the rubbish bin, and Jim and I had wondered who.”可推测,Tom帮助我们带走了垃圾,选项C“现在他为我们所有人拿走垃圾”符合语境。故选C。
2.推理判断题。根据第二段中“We first met Tom and Gee in the early days of our marriage.”可知,我们第一次见到Tom和Gee是在结婚初期;根据第三段中“I made cookies and left them on a bench outside with a thank-you note. When we got home that day, we found a letter from Tom, explaining he had been fighting a war…”可知,在我去送饼干之前,Tom就已经去参加战争了;根据第四段中“A few years later, Tom died. We wrote a letter to Gee, telling her how thankful we were to have known him.”可知,几年后,我们给Tom的妻子Gee写信;根据第一段中“My kids sit in Gee’s living room and carefully lift Christmas ornaments (饰品) out of a box. They are excited to see the cartoon characters. Gee stands beside them, quietly explaining each treasure. She tells me that she and Tom built their ornament collection piece by piece.”可知,Gee最后把圣诞装饰品送给孩子们,本文是倒序,且此句是一般现在时,所以排在最后发生。故顺序为:acdeb。故选A。
3.推理判断题。根据最后一段中“Jim and I agree to wait until January.”

Then the spirit took Scrooge away from the ship. Scrooge heard someone laughing. It was his nephew.
“Ha, ha!” laughed Scrooge’s nephew. “Ha, ha, ha!” When Scrooge’s nephew laughed, Scrooge’s niece, by marriage, laughed too. And all their friends laughed with them.
“He said that Christmas was a humbug (谎话)!” cried Scrooge’s nephew. “He believed it, too!”
“He’s a sad, foolish man, Fred!” said Scrooge’s pretty niece.
“He’s a strange old fellow,” said Scrooge’s nephew, “and not as pleasant as he should be. However, he makes himself unhappy, so that’s his punishment. I have nothing to say against him.”
“I’m sure he is very rich, Fred,” hinted Scrooge’s niece. “At least you always tell me so.”
“His money is of no use to him. ” said Scrooge’s nephew. “He doesn’t do any good with it. He doesn’t make himself comfortable with it. He hasn’t the pleasure of thinking that he is ever going to do anything for us with it.”
“I have no patience with him,” observed Scrooge’s niece.
“Oh, I have!” said Scrooge’s nephew. “I am sorry for him; I couldn’t be angry with him. Who suffers (受苦) by his bad temper (脾气)? He does. If he doesn’t like us, and he won’t come and eat with us, he loses a dinner. We don’t lose anything.”
“I think he loses a very good dinner,” said Scrooge’s niece.
Everybody else said the same because they had just had dinner.
“I will give him every chance to dine with us on Christmas Day, whether he likes it or not, for I pity him,” Scrooge’s nephew said. “He may say that Christmas is humbug till he dies, but he can’t stop thinking about it if I call on him year after year and say, ‘Uncle Scrooge, how are you?’ If it only makes him give his poor clerk (职员) fifty pounds, that’s something.”

Adventures by Disney truly thought of everything for us. Antarctica is a life—changing place filled with experiences that can’t be copied.

My kids sit in Gee’s living room and carefully lift Christmas ornaments (饰品) out of a box. They are excited to see the cartoon characters. Gee stands beside them, quietly explaining each treasure.
