Look for green plants, no flowers, ~8 inches tall. Avoid thin, yellow, or weak stems.” 故选A。 22. 根据“Planting”中的“Plant in spring (after the last frost)”可知,种植西红柿的最佳季节是春季。故选A。 23. 根据“Planting”中的“Use a wire cage or stick to support the plant & keep tomatoes off the ground and away from insects”可知,在种植西红柿时,让西红柿远离地面是必要的。故选B。 24. 根据“Harvest”中的“Each plant 3 feet wide, 4 feet tall, produces about 4 pounds of tomatoes.” D。 B I am a member of the Young People’s Chorus (合唱团) (YPC) of New York City. The chorus is made up of children ages 8 to 18. I’ve been in the chorus for almost five years. Every year, we give a big performance to raise money for the organization. It’s the biggest concert of the year and is held at Lincoln Center. A lot of work goes into the final performance. First, we begin learning our music. We usually start by learning the notes, and then we add the words. Someone comes in to teach us the meaning and pronunciation of the lyrics(歌词) if the words are not in English. Next, we keep the whole song in mind, even if we only sing part of it. One of the hardest pieces we sang this year was Tjak. It has four parts, each with a different rhythm (节奏). Once we add dynamics (力度变化) to our songs to give them life, it’s time to add choreography. Jacque Bird, the director, tells us to connect the words we sing to our movements as we breathe and count in our heads. As we get closer to the concert night, the rehearsals (彩排) get harder. My knees and arms start to hurt. But once we get a break and some food, we come back feeling better. We rehearse on weekends for almost a month beforehand. Every moment is important and worth it. The real excitement comes during the rehearsal, when we meet our guest artists. This year, YPC invited Mandy Gonzales, Alexandra Socha, and Time for Three to join us. After hearing that we would work with them, we jumped up and down. Showtime! We sang with musical guests and performed wonderful dances. At the end of the night, we shouted with excitement. For all of us, pulling off the biggest performance of the year felt great. 26.Why is a big performance given yearly? A.To collect money for YPC. B.To pick excellent performers. C.To show kids’ talent for acting. D.To celebrate the success of YPC. 27.What does the underlined word “choreography” in Paragraph 4 mean? A.Lyrics. B.Dances. C.Videos. D.Games. 28.What excites the writer most during the rehearsal? A.Working with the famous director. B.Having some food during the break. C.Coming face to face with guest artists. D.Getting a rest after long hours of rehearsal. 29.How did the writer feel at the end of the concert night? A.Shocked. B.Nervous. C.Thankful. D.Enjoyable. 30.How is the passage developed? A.By telling stories. B.By giving examples. C.By following time order. D.By making comparisons. 根据第一段“Every year, we give a big performance to raise money for the organization”可知,年度大型演出是为合唱团筹集资金。故选A。 27. 根据第四段“connect the words we sing to our movements”及后文“performed wonderful dances”可知,“choreography”指与演唱配合的舞蹈动作。故选B。 28. 根据第五段“The real excitement comes during the rehearsal, when we meet our guest artists”可知,排练中最让作者兴奋的是见到嘉宾艺术家。故选C。 29. 根据最后一段“we shouted with excitement...pulling off the biggest performance of the year felt great”可知,演出结束时作者感到愉悦。故选D。 30. C。 C Many a conversation in France starts with a complaint (抱怨): The weather is bad; the grape harvest is even worse… When I first moved to France ten years ago, I was puzzled. I kept wondering why the French were always in such a bad mood. One day, I asked a French friend. “We aren’t really complainers,” he said. “We are râleurs—people who complain just for fun.” Then I knew a complaint is a common starter in French conversations. One could begin talking about the poor restaurant service, even if the meal was mostly great. Such words invite other people to share their opinions. A French complaint is also “something that makes people seem like they’re thinking and not naive (幼稚的),” according to Julie Barlow, co-writer of The Bonjour Effect. Many native English speakers may feel uncomfortable toward the French conversation starter. However, some experts believe that the French attitude may, in fact, be better for their health. According to a 2011 study from the University of Texas, holding back negative emotions can make people more likely to argue or fight. And a 2013 study in Biological Psychiatry found that efforts to regulate negative emotions could be harmful, which might increase the risk of heart diseases. This isn’t to say that complaining is always positive. Complaining too often can get you caught in a situation, actually reshaping your brain to always pay attention to the negative. French râleurs may well avoid this unlucky side effect, because they seldom complain about their own lives but about outside problems. On the whole, hardly ever do the French’s complaints aim to solve problems. Instead, complaining is just part of conversation, a way to build interpersonal connections. 31.How does the writer begin the text? A.By listing numbers. B.By using a saying. C.By giving examples. D.By making a comparison. 32.Why do the French often start a conversation with a complaint? A.To do it for fun. B.To show they are healthy. C.To solve practical problems. D.To express anger about life. 33.What does the underlined word “regulate” mean in paragraph 3? A.Express. B.Increase. C.Destroy. D.Control. 34.According to the text, which of the following “complaints” is most probably from a French râleur? A.The electricity bill this month is scary. B.It’s snowing awfully heavily. C.Losing the job again upset me. D.I had trouble falling asleep last night. 35.In which section of a newspaper can we probably read the text? A.Environment. B.Technology. C.History. D.Culture. 根据“Many a conversation in France starts with a complaint (抱怨): The weather is bad; the grape harvest is even worse…” 根据“We are râleurs—people who complain just for fun.” 故选A。 33. 根据“And a 2013 study in Biological Psychiatry found that efforts to regulate negative emotions could be harmful, which might increase the risk of heart diseases.” 根据“French râleurs may well avoid this unlucky side effect, because they seldom complain about their own lives but about outside problems.” D。 D When you take the subway, you might notice many people, old and young, listening to audiobooks instead of reading paper books. Audiobooks have become quite popular these days. Why are more and more people choosing audiobooks over traditional books? Is listening to an audiobook just as good as reading a paper book? You need to spare time and find a quiet place to sit down and read. However, you can listen to audiobooks anytime and anywhere you like, and it gives your eyes a break, too. But the big question is, do we get as much knowledge from audiobooks as we do from paper books? Researchers did a study to find the answer. Volunteers in the first group listened to an audiobook, but volunteers in the second group read a paper book. It showed that they remembered the same amount of information in these two ways. Researchers also scanned (扫描) volunteers’ brains when they listened to and read books. The result showed that listening to audiobooks uses almost the same parts of the brain as reading does. However, some people still believe that they learn better from reading paper books. One reason might be that when we listen to audiobooks, we are often doing other things at the same time. 36.What has become quite popular these days according to the passage? A.By telling stories. B.By giving examples. C.By following time order. D.By making comparisons. C Many a conversation in France starts with a complaint (抱怨): The weather is bad; the grape harvest is even worse… When I first moved to France ten years ago, I was puzzled. C.History. D.Culture. D When you take the subway, you might notice many people, old and young, listening to audiobooks instead of reading paper books. A.Sitting down at any place. B.Reading paper books. C.Listening to audiobooks. D.Making short videos. 37.Audiobooks help people ________. A.be freer in time B.save more money C.have better hearing D.have better memories 38.What does the underlined word “they” in Paragraph 4 refer to? A.Researchers. B.Volunteers. C.Audiobook users. D.Book readers. 39.What can we know from the passage? A.People choose audiobooks only to protect their eyes. B.All people think that audiobooks are better than paper books. C.People can always do other things while reading paper books. D.Listening to audiobooks uses almost the same parts of the brain as reading does. 40.What is the best structure (结构) of the passage?
