The biggest fight with my parents was about my high school subjects. My father wanted me to study science. My mother agreed, thinking it was safe. But I dreamed of studying history, which they thought had no future.
For weeks, we didn’t speak. I filled out their science subject form, my heart heavy like stone. The night before handing it in, I found an old box of my things. At the end of the box was a book on ancient China, its pages worn from my many readings. A small note fell out, in my mother’s handwriting from years ago: “To my little reader. May you always love history.”
The next morning, I did not hand in the form. Instead, I put the book and note on the kitchen table. My mother saw them, and her eyes became soft. My father picked up the book and looked at the pages. We did not talk then. But that evening, he came to my room. “Tell me,” he said, “about your favorite story in the book.” My voice shook at first, then became calm as I spoke about the wisdom and lessons from the past.
My choice was not made with loud words, but with a silent book and a remembered note. We found a new way: I would take one science class, and follow my heart in history. I learned that sometimes, showing your true interest quietly can help parents understand you.
51.What does the underlined word “worn” mean in paragraph 2?
A.New and clean. B.Old and used often.
C.Colorful and interesting. D.Expensive and cool.
52.What’s the correct order of the events?
①The writer placed a book and note on the table.
②The writer found an old box.
③The father asked about a favorite story.
④The parents wanted science subjects.
A.②④③① B.④①②③ C.④②①③ D.④③①②
53.Why did the old book and note change the parents’ minds?
A.Because their child bought the ancient book for them.
B.Because they reminded them of their child’s true interest.
C.Because they were expensive gifts they gave to their child.
D.Because they showed their child’s plan to study both subjects.
54.Which title best fits the story?
A.The Loud Argument B.An Unforgettable Gift
C.The Hopeful Choice D.A Silent Communication
55.If your friend faces a similar problem, what is the best advice from the story?
A.Wait for your parents to support your choice.
B.Hide your interests and follow parents’ plans.
C.Find a calm way to show what you truly love.
D.Buy an expensive gift to make parents happy.

53.细节理解题。根据“My mother saw them, and her eyes became soft. My father picked up the book and looked at the pages. We did not talk then. But that evening, he came to my room. ‘Tell me,’ he said, ‘about your favorite story in the book.’”

Sirish Subash, a 14-year-old student from the US, recently won the 3M Young Scientist Challenge.
He made a tool that can find pesticides (杀虫剂) on fruit and vegetables. This won him $25,000 (about 180,000 yuan) and the title of “Best Young Scientist in America”.
Subash’s idea for the tool came from a simple but important question. His mother always told him to wash fruit before eating it. The boy wondered if the action did any good. He learned that 70 percent of fruit and vegetables have pesticides. They can bring possible health problems like cancer (癌症). Washing only removes part of the pesticides. “If we could find them, we could avoid eating them and lower the risk of those health problems,” Subash said.
This led Subash to invent PestiSCAND.It is a small tool that people can take with them. It works by shining lights and seeing how light reflects off food. With the help of a sensor (传感器), a screen and an AI learning model, the tool can find out if there are pesticides around.
To use it, users must point PestiSCAND at the fruit or vegetable to see if they need to wash it again. They can check the results in an app on their phones. During testing, PestiSCAND was right more than 85 percent of the time in finding pesticides. Subash plans to improve his tool and hopes to get it to market by the time he starts college.
56.What is PestiSCAND mainly used for?
A.Checking the sweetness of food. B.Washing fruit and vegetables.

c. He learned that lots of fruit have pesticides.
d. His mother told him to wash fruit before eating.
A.d-c-a-b B.d-a-c-b C.a-c-b-d D.c-a-b-d
58.What does Subash plan to do with his tool PestiSCAND?
A.Stop improving it after winning the prize. B.Use it only to check food for his mom.
C.Share it with scientists to test pesticides. D.Improve it and put it on the market.
59.What is Subash like?
A.Shy and normal. B.Smart and creative.

The Strange Slope (斜坡) is a natural place to travel in China’s Liaoning Province. And there’s a strange situation that causes things to go uphill and prevents them from going downhill.
The Strange Slope area takes an important position in Liaoning Province. It’s considered one of the eight natural wonders there. It was discovered in 1990. It’s said that a policeman found the Strange Slope first. One day, when he drove down the slope and stopped his car in the area, he noticed that his car slowly went to the top of the hill. The strange news spread quickly. A great number of people were interested in it. Before long, many people came to see the slope in person. The local government then stepped in. They cleaned the place up and built a road that was suitable for bikes and cars. ▲ Soon, it became a famous spot that many people wanted to visit.
Many people have their opinions about the causes of the Strange Slope. Some believe our eyes are deceiving (欺骗) us because they find the area around the Strange Slope is downhill, but the other area is actually uphill. This area is 80 meters long and 15 meters wide, so our eyes can’t see the difference between these two areas and think the uphill slope might be the downhill. But some people guess the magnetic field (磁场) may cause the Strange Slope. Some even think there might be magic in this place.
Today, although many scientists have studied this place, the reason for forming the Strange Slope is still a mystery.
61.What can we know from Paragraph 1?
A.The slope is different from the common slopes.
B.There are lots of such slopes in Liaoning Province.
C.Going up the slope is just as easy as going down it.

62.What strange thing did the policeman notice?
A.His car went downhill by itself after he stopped. B.His car went uphill by itself after he stopped.
C.His car could not start on the slope. D.His car became very slow on the slope.
63.Which of the following can be put in the ▲ ?
A.But some scientists came to study it. B.For example, they also planted many trees.
C.So, the place started to become very popular. D.However, the strange news was hard to believe.
64.How long and how wide is the Strange Slope area?
A.80 meters long and 50 meters wide. B.18 meters long and 15 meters wide.
C.80 meters long and 15 meters wide. D.15 meters long and 80 meters wide.
65.What is the best title for this passage?

New Year’s Resolutions: Making Them Stick
January 1st is a time for fresh starts. People around the world sit down with pen and paper. They write lists of things they want to start doing. They also write bad habits they want to break. These New Year’s resolutions are a tradition. 66
Why do so many resolutions fail? The biggest reason is that people take on too much at once. 67 These goals are too big and too unclear. When life gets busy, it’s easy to quit.
68 Here are three practical tips:
Start small. Instead of “I’ll read 50 books this year,” try “I’ll read for 15 minutes before bed.” Small steps are easier to keep doing. They help you build up energy.
Be specific. “Get better grades” is not clear enough. 69 When you know exactly what to do, you’re more likely to do it.
Record your progress. 70 Seeing your good run of days grow feels great. It also keeps you going. And if you miss a day? Don’t be hard on yourself—just start again the next day.
Remember, a resolution isn’t about being perfect. It’s about making progress. This year, try setting smaller, clearer goals. You might be surprised at how far they take you.
A.So how can you make your resolutions work?
B.But here’s the truth: most people give up by February.
C.Use a calendar or a phone app to mark each day you succeed.
D.A better goal is “I’ll study for 30 minutes every day after dinner.”
E.They say, “I’ll exercise every single day” or “I’ll never eat junk food again.”
【答案】66.B 67.E 68.A 69.D 70.C
【导语】本文围绕新年决心展开,指出新年制定决心是一项传统,但大多数人到二月就会放弃。随后给出了三条让新年决心坚持下去的实用建议。
66.根据“These New Year’s resolutions are a tradition.”和后文“Why do so many resolutions fail?”可知,此处转折说明大多数人难以坚持新年决心,选项B“但事实是:大多数人到二月就放弃了。”符合语境。故选B。
67.根据“The biggest reason is that people take on too much at once.”和“These goals are too big and too unclear.”
故选A。
69.根据“Be specific. ‘Get better grades’ is not clear enough.”可知,此处给出具体的目标示例,选项D“一个更好的目标是‘我会每天晚饭后学习30分钟’。”符合语境。故选D。
70.根据“Record your progress.”和“Seeing your good run of days grow feels great.”可知,此处说明记录进步的具体方式,选项C“用日历或手机应用标记你成功的每一天。”符合语境。故选C。

73.A: You look very upset. ?
B: I forgot that yesterday was my grandma’s birthday.
【答案】What’s wrong?

74.A: your grandma this weekend?
B: Yes, I am. I can’t wait to see her.
【答案】Are you going to visit

Recently, Chinese astronauts brought Chinese people’s love for food to space. They became the first 81 (human) to not only cook chicken and beef but also eat them.
In a short video from the Tiangong space station, Shenzhou-21 spaceship engineer Major Wu Fei takes chicken wings out of a bag, puts the wings on a special holder and places 82 (they) into a hot air oven. 83 28 minutes, Wu takes out the chicken wings and says they smell just as good as they look.
Liu Weibo, 84 expert at the Astronaut Centre of China, said that scientists made this oven so that astronauts could cook in space. “ 85 (where) we Chinese are, we love our food hot. If we give astronauts more ways to make food, it 86 (make) them happier in space,” he said. With this oven, our astronauts can make cakes, cook meat, or roast peanuts 87 (easy). It will give them more choices for meals and improve their 88 (happy) in space.
89 , it’s not easy to make an oven in space. On Earth, hot air moves to cook food—this is called convection (热循环). But in space, this does not happen. After a lot of work, scientists found a way to heat food and deal with the smoke. Liu said, “The Chinese-made oven is the 90 (world) first oven at the space station.” This helps astronauts live better on long trips in space.

C.Finding pesticides on food. D.Growing plants without pesticides.

A.Stop improving it after winning the prize. B.Use it only to check food for his mom.
C.Share it with scientists to test pesticides. D.Improve it and put it on the market.
59.What is Subash like?
A.Shy and normal. B.Smart and creative.
C.Lazy but outgoing. D.Honest and friendly.

D.It’s more difficult for the slope to go uphill than go downhill.
