How can you travel “green” to protect the environment? Walk, bike, take the underground… or maybe drive a special car! A team of 22 Dutch university students created a solar-powered car called Stella Vita. In October 2021, they completed(完成)the car's first road trip. The 2,800-kilometre trip was powered(提供动力)only by the sun. This solar car has a roof and two foldable(可折叠的)wings. Its roof and wings are equipped with solar panels. When the car is parked, the two hidden wings will stick out(伸出来). This doubles the area of the solar panels to about 17.5 square meters. On sunny days, the car can drive about 120 kilometers per hour. The energy it gets from the sun can also be used to power other things. The user can take a shower, watch TV and make coffee in the car. On cloudy days, the car still makes 60% to 70% of the energy it does on sunny days. How can the car keep going at night? Well, it has a large battery to store energy. This allows the car to travel up to 600 kilometers at night. The Stella Vita isn’t the Dutch team’s first solar car. Since it was set up in 2012, the team has created different types of solar cars. The team members are working to promote this green way of travelling. Let’s hope that in the future, we can all travel “by” the sun! 1. Did the 22 Dutch university students complete the car's first road trip in October 2021? _______________________________________________________________________ 2. How far was the solar car's first road trip? _______________________________________________________________________ 3. How can the car double its area of solar panels? _______________________________________________________________________ 4. Why is the solar car able to drive at night? _______________________________________________________________________ 5. If the solar-powered cars are on the market, will you buy one? Why? _______________________________________________________________________ 五、阅读下面短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。 Scientists have found that floating solar panels(漂浮式太阳能板)could provide electricity if they were placed on bodies of water around the world. Solar panels are used to turn sunlight into electricity. Most solar panels are placed on land in large collections called solar farms. But recently people have begun to try putting floating solar panels on water. Because these panels float, some people call them “floatovoltaics”. The researchers looked at 114,555 reservoirs(水库)worldwide. They used computer programs to find out how much electricity could be produced yearly by covering 30% of these reservoirs with floating solar panels. Researchers found the amount was surprisingly large—10 times as the amount of energy as all the solar power being produced in the world now. Floatovoltaics can also help save water by reducing evaporation(蒸发)from reservoirs. The scientists say that solar panels covering just 30% of the reservoirs’ surfaces could save as much water as 300 million people world use in a year. Putting solar panels on water also means that there’s no need to clear land for a solar farm. That’s important as countries work to fight against climate change and protect natural spaces for wild animals. Floatovoltaics aren’t perfect. For example, they cost about 25% more than those on land. Covering too much of a reservoir with panels could influence the plants and animals in the water. Scientists are working to solve these problems. ( ) 1. How many advantages(优点)of floatovoltaics are mentioned in the passage? A. 2. B. 3. C. 4. D. 5. ( ) 2. Why do some people call floating solar panels “floatovoltaics”? A. Because they are cheaper than land-based solar panels. B. Because they can float on bodies of water. C. Because they are used only on reservoirs. D. Because they produce more electricity than other panels. ( ) 3. What might the writer talk about next after the passage? A. Where scientists will put floatovoltaics. B. What scientists do to protect the animals and plants. C. Why floatovoltaics influence the plants and animals. D. How scientists solve the problems floatovoltaics bring. 答案 一、1. among 2. Underground 3. survive 4. rainfall 5. canal 6. increase 7. west 8. mid-summer 9. curious 10. east 二、1. probably 2. shortage 3. Amazingly 4. western 5. increasing 6. hottest 7. nearly 8. appearing 9. was built 10. to protect 三、1. in the east of 2. lies in 3. as long as 4. No wonder 5. plays an important role 四、1. Yes, they did. 2. 2,800 kilometers. 3. By sticking out its two foldable wings when parked. 4. Because it has a large battery to store energy. 5. Yes.
