【中考真题】
“Click, click, click...” The drummer hit the drumsticks against each other to give a beat, and the band started to play. Kai played a guqin solo, and for most of the show, he played along with the rhythm of the drums. The band played faster and faster. Kai’s classmates jumped to their feet, clapping and screaming. When the music ended, there was an awkward (尴尬的) silence. They all looked at the teachers.
Mr Li asked, “What were you trying to express?”
Kai murmured, “I wanted to do something different...to modernize the guqin’s sound.”
“Well, it’s a good try. But you know it has over 3,000 years of history. I don’t think you’ve presented the characteristics well,” said Mr Li. “The music was...We could hardly hear the guqin,” added Miss Zhou. “I’m afraid I can’t give you high marks.”
“Please, can I have another chance?” begged Kai.
They finally agreed.
Alone in the hall later, Kai sat in his chair, feeling a little sad. “I understand what you were trying to do,” Kai looked up and saw Miss Zhou by his side. “But before you can break the rules, you have to master them.”
Kai was puzzled. What did she mean?
“The guqin is connected to nature. The bottom board represents the ground, and the rounded top board represents the sky. A wonderful guqin performance shows the harmony (和谐) between people and nature.”
“Miss Zhou, is it fine to play the guqin with other instruments?”
“Because it is so quiet,” replied Miss Zhou, “it’s usually played alone. Sometimes, it can be played with the dizi or another guqin. Every note matters. And you know, there’s Chinese philosophy (哲理) behind every form of art. That’s what makes Chinese art special. We should try hard to keep the value of traditions and connect them with modern life.”
“Is it true that Confucius played the guqin?”
“Exactly. Confucius believed that music was necessary for a well-rounded education. It could help a person develop his inner self.”
“Can I make it modern?” Kai was wondering if he had asked a stupid question.
“Ancient musicians followed traditions to show respect. To modernize it, try to find the right way to keep the value. How will you change your piece?”
“I’m not sure yet,” said Kai. “But I’m going to do something different again.”
That night, Kai kept thinking about the next show. “How can I present the guqin and balance the traditional spirit with a modern touch?” he wondered.

My friend Julie and I are keen on creating a beautiful green town.
Gardening Course
Every September, our city has a special festival. Crowds of happy people go to the park, waving ribbons in their hands. That’s because the gardening competition takes place there.
For Julie and me, it was a pity that we couldn’t take part in the competition, for that was also the first day of our high school. We buried ourselves in choosing courses. We wanted to learn all about plants, gardening and farming. Finally, a course called Agriculture and Wildlife came into our sight. We thought it would help us succeed as gardeners.
Project presentation
After a year’s study, Julie advised me to give a presentation. There was a small plastic model of my idea on the table. On the other side of the table, my teachers were waiting to see my project—the green farm.
“Good morning!” I said “During my studies I’ve learned a lot about city farming. Now. I want to do something with what I’ve learned.”
I showed them the model. “This is the high street of our town. This is an old, nine-floor car park. No one has used it for the last two years and it’s now for sale.”
I continued the presentation. They could see my designs on the big screen when I talked.
“I’ve designed a city farm using the car park building. There will be eight floors to farm fruit and vegetables. This design can help us collect rainwater to wet the soil. And we can also use energy from the sun to power the special growing lights. “
“I will hire the space out to local people and they will sell everything good enough for the environment in local shops. Also, the ninth floor will be for those who want to grow their own plants.”
My audience looked interested and my project got the highest marks in my class. But in the real world. it couldn’t happen because the car park was not available.

Later, Julie helped me search the town for the perfect place for gardening, not in front of the Town Hall or the shopping centre. We tried to look for something different. Somewhere that was not the best neighbourhood, but a poor one. One where the road was full of holes and the pavement (人行道) was all broken. At last, we made it.
In the neighbourbood, we posted letters through people’s doors with gardening instructions. More and more people cared about that and began to plant vegetable gardens.
Then in the same neighbourhood, we put grass over those broken old pavements for the kids to play on. Finally, we put up a sign that said, “Have fun here.”
When we finished, we were both covered in soil and completely exhausted. But Julie put an arm around my shoulders and smiled. “Not bad!” she said. “We can do more to make our town greener!”.

Jordan had his eye on a scoring record. Jordan took a deep breath as he stood in the doorway, looking in at the basketball court. Maybe today I’ll make history, he thought.
The city’s youth basketball league was holding a celebration. Today’s championship game marked 50 years since the league’s first title game (冠军争夺赛).
Before the game, Jordan looked over a special program. It listed the winners of each championship game and the top scorers.
Jordan stopped when he read the name of the top scorer from a game 30 years before. “Devin, look!” he said to his friend, “You see who has the all-time record? My dad! Twenty-four points. But he never told me that.”
“Twenty-four points,” Devin said. “That’s great.”
Jordan’s best was 19 points. He was the league’s top scorer.
When his parents showed up at the gym, Jordan brought the program over to them.
His dad laughed. “I had quite a game that day,” he said. “But look at the score. I prefer to trade all my points for a win.”
Jordan hadn’t noticed that his dad’s team had lost by one point.
“That was a great group of teammates,” Dad said. “I’m still friends with a lot of them.”
As game time came near, Jordan slapped hands with his teammate Tara and then started to warm up. The courts filled up quickly.
Jordan felt strangely calm. He’d played so many games in this gym that it was like his own home. Jordan had led his team to a victory over the Lions last season. Why shouldn’t today be like that?
Jordan grew even more confident when he hit the first 2 shots (投篮).
The Lions called a break. Jordan ran to the bench and jumped up and down with excitement.
“Great start,”Coach said. “But those guys are tough. They’ll come back on us.”
He was right. By half time, the Lions had pulled ahead, 27-24.
Jordan looked up at his parents. His dad nodded and called, “Great work!”
But Jordan didn’t feel quite as confident as he had before.
The teams traded baskets throughout the second half, with neither building a lead.
Eleven seconds left. The scoreboard was clear: LIONS 51. BADGERS 51.
Coach told Jordan to bring the ball up the court. “Look for Devin inside, but take the shot if you’re open,” he said.
Jordan glanced at his dad again. His dad pointed to Jordan, then held up two fingers on one hand and three fingers on the other.
“Me?” Jordan mouthed.
Dad nodded. Jordan had scored 23 points. Another basket would break the record. And it was the right time to do it!
Jordan ran right, then left, but he was still a long way from the basket.
The viewers started counting the seconds. “Four... three... two.”
Jordan rose to shoot. As the Lions rushed toward him, he passed the ball to Devin—wide open near the basket.
Devin turned and shot. The ball fell cleanly through the net for the winning points.
“Yes!” Jordan shouted. After celebrating with his team, he ran to hug his parents. “You still have the record,” he told his dad.
Dad smiled. “You have something more important. A championship. And great teammates. Congratulations on your history!”

It was a week before I saw Captain Nemo again. Every morning, I noticed fresh air coming into the rooms and I knew that the Nautilus had surfaced (浮出水面). I would go out and see the sunrise.
Then I received a note from Captain Nemo. He invited me and my friends to go hunting with him in the forests of Crescent Island. Ned was excited because he thought there he could find a chance to run away from Captain Nemo. Then he could finally be free. When I saw Captain Nemo the next day, I asked him why he was so interested in Crescent Island. “I thought you preferred the sea to being on land.”
“I do,” replied the Captain, “But these forests are under the sea. It is a perfect place for hunting.” During breakfast, he explained that he had made diving suits (潜水服) that used special air tanks a month ago. These tanks would allow us to stay under the water for ten hours. He had also made lights that worked on electric batteries. When Ned realized that we were not going onto land for our hunting trip, he decided not to come at all.
Conseil and I put on our diving suits, and so did Captain Nemo and one of his men. We stepped into a room and closed the door. The room was filled with water, and another door opened. We went in, and then we were on the sea floor. It was an amazing experience.
We were about ten metres under the water. The light from the sun reached us. Everything looked very colourful. We walked over the fine sand and enjoyed the colours of the shells, fish and seaweed. Conseil and I followed Captain Nemo and his man as they crossed a large grassy area. We were going deeper and deeper. Two hours later, we were a hundred metres under the water. The suits worked very well, and it was easy to walk and breathe.
At one hundred metres deep, we could still see quite well, and Captain Nemo stopped and pointed to some dark shapes. This was the forest. The“trees”in the forest were giant seaweed, and all their branches were vertical (垂直的). We could not stop looking at them. Fish swam around the branches like birds in a forest. Small bushes grew under the large seaweed trees. Some of them had flowers.
We walked through this forest for about an hour, and then we lay down to rest. I was not hungry, but I was very sleepy. We all slept, and when we woke up, we walked further.

Uncle Tom sang a song about angels and Heaven with Eva in the garden.
“Uncle Tom, sometimes I see those spirits,” said Eva. “They come to me in my sleep. I’m going there.” Eva pointed her finger to the sky and said, “To the bright spirits.”
Uncle Tom’s heart almost stopped. He looked at Eva. She didn’t look well, she was often tired, her breath was short, she had a cough, and she was getting very thin.
Miss Ophelia noticed this too, and she tried to tell Eva’s father, St Clare.
“Stop that!” St Clare said. “Don’t you see that the child is only growing up? It’s what happens to children of her age.”
“But she has that cough!”
“That’s nothing. Maybe she has a little cold,” St Clare said.
Eva’s health got even worse. She became very weak and she could hardly leave the house, so St Clare sent her to the hospital.
In a week or two, it seemed that Eva’s health improved greatly. St Clare was happy and he was sure Eva would get better. But Miss Ophelia was not so sure, and neither was Eva herself. One afternoon, when St Clare called Eva to give her a present, “Papa, I am going to leave you soon.” said Eva, and she started crying.
“Oh, my dear!” said St Clare, “you’re just tired and a little weak because of the illness. You will be perfectly fine soon.”
“No, Papa” said Eva, “I won’t get better. I am not sad. I’m sorry for you, Papa, and my friends, but I want to go!”
“Why do you want to go? Are you unhappy, Eva?”
“Oh, I feel sad for our slaves (奴隶): they are all good and kind to me. I wish, Papa, they were all free.”
“Don’t you think we treat them well?” said St Clare.
“But what will happen to them if anything happens to you? There are very few men like you, Papa. Some people buy the husbands but not the wives, some people buy the mothers and sell the children. What terrible things people do! Papa, isn’t there any way to make all slaves free?”
“Slavery is a very bad thing, but I don’t know what to do about it,” said St Clare. “Promise me that Uncle Tom will be free as soon as I’m asleep,” said Eva.

The 65-year-old Steve was found suffering from early Alzheimer’s (阿尔兹海默症). He was losing his memory.
Steve, a professional software engineer, was also a lover of the piano and the only musician in his family. Music was his true passion, though he had never performed outside the family.
Melissa, his daughter, felt it more worthwhile (值得的) than anything else to save his music. So she thought about hiring a professional pianist to work with her father.
Naomi, Melissa’s best friend and a talented pianist, knew about this and showed willingness to help.
Naomi drove to the Goodwin home. She told Steve she’d love to hear him play. Steve moved to the piano and sat at the bench to play for the first time in his life for a stranger.
“It was beautiful.” Naomi said after listening. “The music was really worth saving.”
Naomi and Steve met every other week and spent hours together. He’d move his fingers slowly on the piano, and then she’d take his place. He struggled to explain what he heard in his head. He stood by the piano, listening for the first time to his own work being played by someone else.
Working with Naomi did wonders for Steve. It had excited his belief that he could write one last song. One day, Naomi received an email. Attached was a recording, a recording of loss and love, of the fight. Steve called it “Melancholy Flower”.
Naomi heard plenty of stops and starts, Steve struggling, searching while his wife Joni called him “honey” and encouraged him. The task was so hard, and Steve, angry and upset, said he would give up. Joni praised him, telling him this could be his signature (署名) piece.
Naomi managed to figure out 16 of Steve’s favorite and most personal songs. With Naomi’s help, the Goodwin family found a sound engineer to record Naomi playing Steve’s songs. Joni thought that would be the end. But it wasn’t.
In the months leading up to the 2016 Oregon Repertory Singers Christmas concert, Naomi asked for Steve’s permission to adding his music to the playing list. He considered it an honor.
After the concert, Naomi said that Steve’s music was beautiful and professional. It needed to be shared in public.
The family rented a former church in downtown Portland and scheduled a concert. By the day of the show, more than 300 people had said they would attend.
By then, Steve was having a hard time remembering the names of some of his friends. He knew he was now taking the path of his hard life. But he was brave enough to tell his family he was at peace.

Once upon a time, there was a king. He often thought, “If people only complain and wait for others to solve problems, nothing good will happen to the nation.” One day, he got an idea.
Early in the morning, the king dressed up as a civilian and went to a village. He put a big stone in the middle of the main street and hid some gold coins under it. Then he hid behind a large maple tree to see what would happen.
The first person to come along was a milkman with his cart. He hit the stone, and all the milk spilled out. “Who was so stupid to put this stone here?” he shouted angrily. Then he stood up and left in a bad mood.
After some time, a group of women walked by. Each of them carried a pot of water on her head. One woman fell over the stone, and her water pot broke into pieces. She stood up and went away crying. None of them tried to move the stone off the road.
The king watched all day. Many people complained about the stone, but no one tried to move it. “Isn’t there anyone in this village who wants to help their neighbors stay safe?” he thought.
Just then, a young girl came. She was a farmer’s daughter. She had worked hard the whole day and looked very tired. But when she saw the stone, she said to herself, “This stone is dangerous, especially for people walking here at night. I should move it away.”
The girl pushed the stone with all her strength. After working very hard, she finally moved the stone to the side of the street. How surprised she was when she saw the gold coins under the stone!
At that moment, the king came out from behind the tree. The girl asked, “Sir, is this gold yours? If not, we should find the owner. He will surely be worried about losing it.”
The king replied, “My dear, I put the gold there and covered it with the stone. Now it’s yours because you’re the only one who learned the lesson I wanted to teach everyone.”

Cook was making little “tuk-tuk-tuk” sounds. Sadio had her hand over her mouth. Hans was trying so hard to understand. Only Godber’s man was enjoying himself. It was his story.
“What’s wrong? What’s happened?”
“There’s been an awful accident,” cook said. “A man’s been killed.”
“A man killed! Where? How? When?”
But Godber’s man wanted to tell the story.
“You know those little cottages (小屋) just down the road from here, miss?” Of course she knew them. “Well, there’s a young man called Scott living there. He has a horse and cart. Something frightened the horse in town this morning, the cart (马车) turned over, and Scott fell in the road on the back of his head. Killed.”
“Dead!” Laura stared at Godber’s man.
“Dead when they picked him up,” Godber’s man said. “They were taking the body home as I was coming here.” Then he said, “He’s left a wife and five little ones.”
“Jose, come here!” Laura took her sister’s hand and pulled her across the kitchen and through the door.
“Jose,” she said, “how can we stop everything?”
“Stop everything, Laura!” cried Jose. “What do you mean?”
“Stop the garden party, of course.”
“Stop the garden party? My dear Laura, don’t be unreasonable. Of course we can’t stop the party. Nobody expects us to. Don’t be so silly.”
“But we can’t possibly have a garden party with a man dead just outside the front gate.”
That really was silly, because the Sheridans’ house was on a hill, and the cottages were right down at the bottom of the hill. There was a wide road between them. True, they were still much too near. They were not suitable neighbours for people like the Sheridans.
The cottages were ugly little low brown things. Nothing but rubbish grew in their gardens. Even the smoke coming from their chimneys (烟囱) looked poor. The people who lived in them lived by washing other people’s clothes, or mending shoes or cleaning chimneys. And they all had far too many children.
When the Sheridan children were little, they were not allowed to go near the cottages, for fear that they heard bad language or caught some awful disease. But now that they were grown up, Laura and Laurie sometimes walked past. It was dirty and unpleasant, but Laura and Laurie believed that they should experience all sides of life. They must go everywhere; the must see everything.
“Think how that poor woman will feel if she hears a band playing,” said Laura.
“Oh, Laura!” Jose began to be seriously angry. “If you want to stop a band every time someone has an accident, you’re going to have a very difficult life. I’m just as sorry about it as you are.”

Two young Chinese street dancers, 10-year-old Song Haoming and 14-year-old Fu Junxi, have taken the global street dance scene by storm. Competing in the Hip-Hop adult category at the Juste Debout 2025 World Finals in Paris on March 3, 2025, the team defeated two top international pairs to reach the semifinals—marking the best performance ever by a Chinese team in the competition’s history.
The two dancers showed the spirit of Chinese martial arts in their performance. They started with a polite fist-and-palm salute, then amazed everyone with a street dance mixed with kung fu moves like Phoenix Three Nods, Drunken Fist, Tai Chi, Wing Chun, and Shaolin spinning kicks. Their moves were sharp and smooth, lighting up the stage—and the best part? They designed the whole moves themselves!
All the achievements came from their years of hard work. Fu Junxi began learning street dance at the age of five and a half, while Song Haoming started practicing as early as three. Their smooth teamwork on stage rises from years of dance training.
In Song Haoming’s home, the living room is filled with his dance awards. His mom shared that whenever schoolwork isn’t too heavy, he practices nonstop—even repeating a single move hundreds of times. Bruised knees? Normal. To him, “Dancing is tiring but brings joy.” He pushes himself to improve every day, never ignoring details.
As for Fu Junxi, he turned his 6-square-metre dining room into a dance studio. Every night, he practices for more than two hours in front of a mirror: “Though he once felt like quitting, his parents’ support kept him going. Now, after 7 years, dance is this “happy childhood.”
Juste Debout (a famous dance competition) praised them online: “These fearless young dancers from China conquered the stage with unstoppable energy!” When the young dancers cheered on the Paris stage wrapped in China’s national flag, it showed the world the energy and creativity of Chinese culture shining brightly.
Now that the competition has ended, both children have returned to school and normal studies. Yet their creative journey continues, as they plan to mix China’s intangible cultural heritage—including lion dance, bian lian (face-changing), and traditional opera—with street dance. Though just in their early teens, they embrace both challenges and high expectations for what lies ahead.

3.What does the text show about Fu’s practice?
A.He prefers outdoor practice spaces.
B.He trains alone with skilled coaches.

Mr and Mrs March lived together with their four daughters. Amy was very shy. Beth loved being at home. Meg looked very pretty. Jo was tall and thin and she was a tomboy. Their home was always busy and full of noise and people. Next to them lived old Mr Laurence and his grandson, Laurie. They lived in a very large and comfortable house. But it was a house without life.
One day, Jo saw Laurie standing at an upstairs window in his house and looking down at their garden. Jo’s sisters were playing in the snow there. They were throwing snowballs and having a lot of fun. But Laurie’s face was very sad.
“Poor boy!” Jo thought. “He’s all alone. He needs some friends.” She couldn’t stop thinking about him. She wanted to go and see him, but how could she go to his house without an invitation?
Then one snowy afternoon, she saw Laurie’s grandpa go out. This gave her an idea. She took a broom from the kitchen.
“What are you going to do, Jo?” asked her sister Meg.
“To clear the garden path,” answered Jo.
When Laurie saw Jo from the window, a big smile changed his pale, sad face.
Jo laughed and shouted, “How are you? Are you ill?”
Laurie opened the window and said, “I’m better now, thank you. I had a bad cold and had to stay inside for a week.”
“I’m sorry,” said Jo, “Are you bored?”
“Yes, very,” he replied.
“Don’t your friends come to visit you?”
“No. But I don’t want to see anybody. Boys are noisy and they give me a headache.”
“Girls are quiet.”
“I don’t know any girls.”
“You know us.”
“That’s true! Can you come and visit me?” cried Laurie.
“I’m not quiet, but I’d like to come,” replied Jo, “I must ask Mother first.” She ran back into her house.
A few minutes later, she returned and rang the bell on the door of Laurie’s house. A servant took her upstairs.
“Here I am!” she said brightly. “Mother sends her love and my sisters gave me this blancmange for you.”
“That looks delicious,” Laurie said. He was very happy to see Jo.
Jo looked around. There were lots of books on the shelves.
“A nice room!” she said, “I can read to you if you like.”
“No, let’s talk,” replied Laurie.
“All right,” said Jo, “I can talk for hours. My sisters say I never know when to stop.”
“You have three sisters. Amy, Beth and Meg,” Laurie continued.
“How do you know that?” Jo was surprised.
“You call each other’s names when you are in the garden. Sometimes I can see you all around the table with your mother. She has a very kind face. I like looking at her. I haven’t got a mother.”
Jo felt sad when she heard this.
“Why don’t you come and visit us?” she said, “It isn’t good for you to stay in this house all the time.”
“Thank you, I’d like to come very much,” said Laurie.
“We know all our neighbours except you,” Jo said. “I’m glad we’re friends now.”
She told him about all the interesting things in her life. She said, “Besides plays, I also love books.” Laurie loved books too, and offered to show her the library in the house. The library was a wonderful room. Jo loved it.
“Wow!” she said, “All those books!”
Laurie said, “A person needs more than books.”
Just then the bell rang and a servant came in…

Long ago, Adana lived in a small village in Africa. Everyone in the village had jobs to do, and the villagers depended on one another. When Adana turned ten, her mother called for her.
“Adana, it is time for you to take your place in the village. You shall be the water girl. Each morning, we need you to go down to the spring, fill these buckets (水桶) with water, and bring them back to the village before noon.”
Adana took pride in being given such an important job. She picked up the yoke with the buckets, flung it over her back, and walked to the spring. When she arrived, she took a drink and then filled the buckets with clean, cool water. Adana looked at the sun. It was nearly noon and she knew the villagers were depending on her. As the spirit spoke, they passed through the wall and stood on a country road with fields on either side. The city had disappeared. It was now day time, and there was snow on the ground.
“I know where we are!” Scrooge shouted. “I was born here and lived here as a boy.” He began to have memories of his childhood. A tear (眼泪) came into his eye.
“If you remember this place,” the spirit said, “you may now lead the way.”
They walked along the road until a little town could be seen ahead with its bridge, church, and river. Some small horses came towards them with boys upon their backs. When the boys came nearer, Scrooge recognized each of them and could call out their names. He felt so happy to see them all again. All these boys shouted to each other until the fields were full of their laughter.
“We are now at the school,” said the spirit. “Only one child is there, left alone by the others.” Hearing what he said, Scrooge burst into tears.
They walked through the school house until they came to a room that was empty except for a small boy sitting at a desk, reading. The room seemed very old and needed to be repaired. The spirit pointed to the boy. Scrooge looked at the boy, sat down and couldn’t help crying. It was Scrooge when he was young.
Suddenly, a man wearing strange clothes stood outside the window. He was leading a horse. “It’s Ali Baba!” Scrooge shouted excitedly. “It’s dear, old, honest Ali Baba! Yes, yes, I remember.”
Scrooge remembered how lonely he had been as a child. “Poor boy!” he said, and tears came into his eyes again. “I wish,” he said, putting his hands in his pocket and looking around him after drying his eyes, “but it’s too late now.”
“What do you wish?” asked the spirit.
“There was a boy singing a Christmas carol at my door last night. I should have given him a present. That’s all.”

The next day was sunny and hot. I put on my new clothes, paddled to the river bank in the canoe and walked to Silas Phelps’ place. I was climbing over the fence that surrounded the small wooden house when the dogs started barking. The noise brought a woman and some children to the door. The woman seemed very happy to see me. She ran up to me, smiling. “You’re here at last!” she said. Then she hugged me and kissed me and hugged me again.
“Yes”, I replied politely.
“Look, Silas!” the woman said. “It’s Tom! Tom Sawyer! He’s arrived at last!”
I nearly fell on the floor with surprise. She thought I was Tom Sawyer! Now I knew exactly what to say because I knew Tom’s family well. I talked about Sid and Mary, Aunt Polly and everybody else for two hours. Then in the distance I heard a steamboat.
“Perhaps Tom is on that boat!” I thought. I had to stop him before he arrived at the farm.
“Aunt Sally!” I said, “I left my bag in the town. I must go and pick it up.”
“Your Uncle Silas will take you, Tom,” she said.
“It’s OK, Aunt Sally. I can drive the wagon,” I replied.
I was halfway to town when I saw another wagon coming towards me. Tom Sawyer was in it. When he saw me, he looked terrified. “Huck! Why have you come back to scare me? I never hurt you,” he said.
“I haven’t come back, Tom. I’ve never been away.”
“Aren’t you a ghost? Aren’t you dead?”
“No, it was a trick. Come and feel me if you don’t believe me.”
He did, and then he was sure that I wasn’t a ghost. He was glad to see me and wanted to hear about my adventures.
“I tell you later,” I said. “I have another problem now.” And I told him about Jim.
“I’m going to rescue (营救) him,” I said.
“I’ll help you,” Tom replied excitedly. He loved an adventure more than anything else in the world.
“But what are we going to tell Aunt Sally? She thinks that I am Tom Sawyer.”
He thought for a moment, then he said, “Listen! I have an idea.”

Oreille was around forty years old. He worked as a head clerk in the War Office. He stayed there only because his wife wanted to increase their income, even though they hardly spent any. He hardly got any pocket money from her wife. He often complained about how she made his life difficult, and some of it really hurt his feelings.
For two years, Oreille had been coming to the office with the same old, patched umbrella. His colleagues made fun of it a lot. Finally, he got sick of their jokes and told his wife to buy him a new one. She bought an eight-franc-and-a-half umbrella, one of those cheap ones sold in thousands in Paris. When the men at the office saw it, they started joking again, and Oreille felt terrible. He was so angry that he told his wife to buy him a new, good silk umbrella for twenty francs (法郎) and show him the bill.
She bought him an eighteen-franc umbrella and said, getting angry and red in the face as she gave it to him, “This will last you at least five years.”
Oreille felt proud, and his new umbrella got a little applause (掌声) at the office. When he got home in the evening, his wife said to him, looking worriedly at the umbrella, “You shouldn’t keep it tied or it might cut the silk.”
She took it, untied it, and was shocked and angry to find a big hole in the middle of the silk. It looked like it was made by the end of a cigar.
“What’s that?” she shouted.
Her husband answered calmly, without looking, “What is it? What do you mean?”
She was so angry that she could hardly speak. “You…you…burned your umbrella! Why…you must be crazy! Do you want to make us poor?”
She rushed at him as if she was going to hit him and pushed the burned hole right under his nose.
Oreille was so surprised that he could only stutter (结结巴巴地说) out, “What… What is it? How would I know? I didn’t do anything, I promise. I don’t know how this happened.”
“You were showing off and opened it at the office!” she yelled.
“I only opened it once to let them see how nice it was. That’s all, I promise.”
But she was shaking with anger and started an argument. Even a calm person would be more afraid of this than a battlefield. She fixed it with a piece of silk. The next day, Oreille went to work quietly with the umbrella. He put it in a cupboard and didn’t think about it anymore.
That evening, as soon as Oreille got home, his wife took the umbrella from him, opened it, and was horrified. The umbrella was covered in many small holes, like someone had emptied the ashes from a lit pipe on it.
She was so angry that she couldn’t say a word. He was also shocked when he saw the damage.
They looked at each other, and then he looked at the floor. Then she threw the broken umbrella at his head and shouted, “Oh! You stupid man! You did it on purpose, but I’ll get back at you. You won’t get another one.”
And then the argument started again. After an hour of shouting, Oreille said he really didn’t understand how it happened.
A doorbell rang and saved him. It was a friend they were expecting for dinner.

Then, he had an idea...
1.In Kai’s teachers’ eyes, he didn’t ________.
A.play the drums well B.work well with others
C.express personal feelings D.show the guqin’s value
2.Which of the following is the correct order of the story?
a. Miss Zhou gave her advice to Kai.
b. The classmates kept a short silence.
c. Kai asked for another chance to play.

e. Kai played the guqin with drum rhythms.
A.a-e-d-c-b B.e-b-d-c-a C.e-a-b-d-c D.a-b-d-e-c
3.What lesson has Kai learned from his experience?
A.Strict rules will stop our creativity in music.
B.Traditional instruments should be modernized.
C.Creation requires us to understand the tradition first.
D.The guqin is necessary for a well-rounded education.
4.What might we hear in Kai’s next show?
A.Pop music in a traditional style. B.Folk music with local colour.
C.Country music in a Western style. D.Rock music with drums and dizi.
【答案】1.D 2.B 3.C 4.A
【导语】本文主要介绍了Kai在乐队表演中尝试将古琴与鼓的节奏结合,但未能很好地展现古琴特点,在老师们的评价和建议下,他思考如何平衡传统精神与现代元素。
1.细节理解题。根据“But you know it has over 3,000 years of history. I don’t think you’ve presented the characteristics well”、“The music was...We could hardly hear the guqin”以及“I’m afraid I can’t give you high marks...we could hardly hear the guqin”可知老师认为Kai没有很好地展现古琴的价值。故选D。
2.细节理解题。根据“Kai played a guqin solo, and for most of the show, he played along with the rhythm of the drums”可知Kai和着鼓的节奏弹奏古琴,e排在首位,排除AD;根据“When the music ended, there was an awkward (尴尬的) silence”可知同学们沉默了一会儿,b排在第二,排除C。故选B。
3.推理判断题。根据“But before you can break the rules, you have to master them.”以及“To modernize it, try to find the right way to keep the value.”可知在你打破规则之前,你必须掌握它们,为了使其现代化,试着找到正确的方法来保持价值,所以他从这次经历中学到的道理是:创新要求我们首先要理解传统。故选C。
4.推理判断题。根据“How can I present the guqin and balance the traditional spirit with a modern touch?”以及前文提到古琴可以与笛子一起演奏,可推断出在Kai的下一场演出中我们可能会听到传统风格的流行音乐,将传统古琴与现代流行元素结合。故选A。

Steve arrived and sat in the front row, surrounded by his family. The lights faded, and then Naomi took the stage. Her fingers. His heart.

根据“The first person to come along was a milkman with his cart”和“The girl pushed the stone with all her strength”可知,前边许多人路过石头时只抱怨却不移动的行为,与后边女孩主动移开石头形成鲜明对比,以此凸显人们的抱怨以及女孩乐于助人的品质。故选D。
3.细节理解题。根据“Then he hid behind a large maple tree to see what would happen.” 故选A。
4.最佳标题题。根据“He put a big stone in the middle of the main street and hid some gold coins under it.”并通读全文可知,文章围绕“街道上的石头”展开,它既是故事的核心线索,也象征着需要主动解决的问题。故选C。
1.What were Scott’s living conditions like?
A.Poor. B.Safe. C.Modern. D.Comfortable.
2.What can we learn about the Sheridan family?
A.The Sheridan children knew Scott well.
B.The Sheridan family lived a challenging life.
C.The Sheridan family planned to have a party.
D.The Sheridan children liked going near the cottages.
3.Which is the correct order of the following events?
a. Godber’s man told the story.
b. Scott died in a cart accident.
c. Laura and Laurie sometimes walked past.
d. Laura suggested cancelling the garden party.
A.c-d-b-a B.c-b-a-d C.b-c-a-d D.d-c-b-a
4.What does the underlined sentence “There was a wide road between them” symbolize (象征)?
A.It symbolizes Scott lived far from Laura.
B.It symbolizes the poor lived near the rich.

A.How Jose had fun in the garden party.
B.How Laura succeeded in stopping the party.
C.How Laura invited Scott’s children to the party.
D.How Laurie stopped his two sisters from fighting.
【答案】1.A 2.C 3.B 4.D 5.B
【导语】本文讲述了Sheridan家的Laura在得知附近贫民区一位名叫Scott的男子因马车事故身亡后,与姐姐Jose就是否取消即将举行的花园派对发生争执的故事。
1.细节理解题。根据“The cottages were ugly little low brown things. Nothing but rubbish grew in their gardens. Even the smoke coming from their chimneys (烟囱) looked poor.”可知,那些小木房又矮又丑,全是褐色。它们的院子里只长些杂草。连烟囱里冒出来的烟都显得灰暗。这些细节表明他的生活条件非常贫困。故选A。
2.细节理解题。根据“Stop the garden party, of course...Stop the garden party? My dear Laura, don’t be unreasonable. Of course we can’t stop the party. Nobody expects us to.”
根据“That really was silly, because the Sheridans’ house was on a hill, and the cottages were right down at the bottom of the hill. There was a wide road between them.”可知,Sheridan家住在山上,而穷人的小屋在山脚下,虽然地理上很近,但社会地位和经济条件相差甚远。这条宽阔的道路象征着贫富之间的隔阂。因此“There was a wide road between them.”表示“它象征着穷人跟富人的隔阂。”故选D。
5.推理判断题。根据“‘Think how that poor woman will feel if she hears a band playing,’ said Laura.”和“If you want to stop a band every time someone has an accident, you’re going to have a very difficult life. I’m just as sorry about it as you are.”可知,Laura和Jose正在争论是否要取消派对,气氛紧张。推测下一段最可能的发展是Laura如何成功说服Jose停止开派对。选项B“劳拉是如何成功地阻止了这次聚会的。”符合。故选B。
1.What’s special about Song and Fu’s performance at the Juste Debout 2025 Finals?
A.They designed Tai Chi on their own. B.They showed smooth moves on the stage.
C.They used storm scenes in their street dance. D.They mixed Chinese martial arts with moves.
2.How did the two dancers achieve their smooth teamwork on stage?
A.With the help of a professional designer.
B.Through years of dance training and practice.
C.By learning from famous international dancers.
D.By attending the same school and practicing together daily.
3.What does the text show about Fu’s practice?
A.He prefers outdoor practice spaces.
B.He trains alone with skilled coaches.
C.He dances on weekends to focus on schoolwork.
D.He practices in his dance studio for over two hours nightly.
4.According to the text, what future plans do the dancers have?
A.To show traditional Chinese cultural elements (元素).
B.To become dance judges instead of performers.
C.To stop dancing and return to their school lives.
D.To compete only in national-level competitions.

The girl thoughtfully replied, “If you go slowly, it will not take very long. But, if you go fast, it will take you all day.”

Adana started off slowly, but increased her speed with each step. Soon, she was slowly jogging back toward her village. Half way home, she stopped to take a little sip of water. When she did, she saw that the buckets were only half full. Water had been sloshing out along the path as she travelled.

When she arrived, her little sister asked, “How long does it take to carry water back from the spring?”
Adana smiled and said, “If you go slowly, it will not take very long. But if you go fast, it could take all day.” Adana’s little sister listened, but thought this was an odd thing to say. From that day forward, Adana walked quickly to the spring each morning. On her way home, she ________.

根据第四段“When the boys came nearer, Scrooge recognized each of them and could call out their names.”可知,当那些男孩走近时,斯克鲁奇能够叫出他们的名字,也就是说他认出了每个男孩;据此可以推断,划线单词“recognized”意为 “认出;识别”,与“knew”同义。故选A。
2.推理判断题。根据第二段“A tear came into his eye.”可知,他认出了自己童年生活的地方,触景生情,这是他第一次哭;根据第五段“Hearing what he said, Scrooge burst into tears.”可知,精灵提到学校里只有一个孩子被独自留下,让他想起自己的孤独童年,这是他第二次哭;根据第六段“Scrooge looked at the boy, sat down and couldn’t help crying.”

根据“When he saw me, he looked terrified. ‘Huck! Why have you come back to scare me? I never hurt you,’ he said.”可知,汤姆看到哈克时说,你为什么回来吓我?我从没伤害过你,汤姆看起来很害怕,以为哈克是鬼。可推测出“terrified”意思和“scared”相近,表示 “害怕的”。故选A。
根据“He was glad to see me and wanted to hear about my adventures”可知,他很高兴见到我并且想听听我的冒险经历,这表明汤姆对哈克的冒险经历很好奇。故选A。
4.细节理解题。根据“When he saw me, he looked terrified. ‘Huck! Why have you come back to scare me? I never hurt you,’ he said”以及“‘Aren’t you a ghost? Aren’t you dead?’”可知,汤姆看到哈克时看起来很害怕,因为他以为哈克死了。故选B。
