【中考真题】
The sun hung low, brushing gold over the empty area. The air buzzed (喧闹)—not with insects, but with voices, cameras, and the weight of something about to begin.
Roy’s heart beat like a drum. He looked out at the people gathering for the pancake house ground-breaking ceremony (仪式). Behind him stood the company men and the reporters. And under his feet—hidden underground—were the tiny burrows (洞穴) of the owls.
No sign marked them. No fence protected them. They asked nothing, made no sound, yet now heavy machines waited, ready to destroy (破坏) their living area.
He thought of Mullet Fingers, the wild boy who cared about animals more than himself. He thought of brave Beatrice who helped even when it was hard. Roy had tried to stay out of trouble. He liked quiet. But now, staying quiet didn’t feel right.
He stepped up to the microphone (话筒).
“Excuse me,” he said, voice shaking. “Before you dig…you should know the truth.”
The crowd (人群) grew quiet.
“There are owls living here,” Roy said. “They’re small. They’re scared. And if you build here, you’ll destroy their homes.”
Someone in the crowd laughed. A reporter asked, “How do you know that?”
“Because I saw them. I stood right there and watched them. They live here. They belong here. And they matter.”
The manager stepped forward, “This is not your business, kid.”
Roy turned to face him. His fear turned into something else—strength.
“It’s my business. It’s everyone’s business. We can’t just destroy what we don’t see. Progress should not come at the cost of wonder,” he said.
His hands stopped shaking. People in the crowd began whispering. One mother held her child’s hand. A teacher nodded. Even the manager looked uncertain.
Roy didn’t know what would happen next. But he did what he could. He spoke the truth.
Roy used to be scared. But doing the right thing made him stronger.
Sometimes, doing what you can is enough to shift (改变) the wind.
1.Who did Roy think of before stepping up to the microphone?
A.His teacher. B.Mullet Fingers and Beatrice.
C.The manager. D.The newspaper reporters.
2.Why was Roy speaking to the crowd at the ceremony?
A.To raise money for wildlife. B.To protect the owls’ living area.
C.To advertise the pancake house. D.To welcome people from other towns.
3.What does the underlined sentence in the passage mean?
A.Extra cost should be paid to protect nature.
B.There’s nothing more important than progress.
C.Nature shouldn’t be destroyed for development.
D.People should cut the cost of creating wonders.
4.What can we learn from Roy’s story in the passage?
A.Silence sometimes speaks louder than actions.
B.Finding out the truth needs patience and wisdom.
C.Knowing yourself helps you make the right choice.
D.Standing up for nature takes courage but it’s worth it.
【答案】1.B 2.B 3.C 4.D

4.推理判断题。综合全文及“Roy used to be scared. But doing the right thing made him stronger.”可知,故事告诉我们:为自然发声需要勇气但值得。故选D。
Auggie’s Story
Sleep
I’d been reading for over an hour and sleep still didn’t come. It was almost two a. m. Everyone else was asleep. I had my flashlight (手电筒) on under the sleeping bag. Maybe the light was why I couldn’t sleep, but I was too afraid to turn it off. What had happened kept coming back to my mind.
When we got back to the camp, no one noticed we’d been gone. The teachers and all the other kids were still watching the movie. They didn’t know how something bad had just happened to me and Jack. It’s so strange how that can be, how you could have a night that’s the worst in your life, but to everybody else it’s just a usual night.
Amos, Miles and Henry brought us back to our seats. Then they returned to their own seats. In a way, everything was exactly as we had left it. The sky was the same. The movie was the same. Everyone’s faces were the same. Mine was the same.
But something was different. Something had changed.
Home
“So, do you want to hear about the bad part or the good part first?” I asked Mum.
“Whatever you want to talk about,” she answered.
“Well, except for last night, I had a fantastic time,” I said. “I feel like they ruined (毁坏) the whole trip for me.”
“No, sweetie. Don’t let them do that to you. You were there for more than forty-eight hours, and that awful part lasted one hour. Don’t let them take that away from you, okay?”
“I know.” I nodded. “But do I always have to worry about bad guys like that? Like when I grow up, is it always going to be like this?”
“There are always going to be bad guys in the world, Auggie,” she said, looking at me. “But I really believe there are more good people on this earth than bad people, and the good people watch out for each other and take care of each other. Just like Jack was there for you. And Amos. And those other kids.”
“Oh yeah, Miles and Henry,” I answered. “They were amazing, too. It’s very strange because Miles and Henry haven’t even really been very nice to me at all during the year.”
“Sometimes people surprise us,” she said, rubbing the top of my head.
1.Why couldn’t Auggie fall asleep?
A.He kept thinking about something. B.He was doing bedtime reading.
C.He was looking for his flashlight. D.He didn’t like his sleeping bag.
2.According to the first part, what was different at the camp?

It was my first day at school. It was also Miss Caroline’s first day to be a teacher.
Miss Caroline began the day by reading us a story about cats. Then she started to teach us the alphabet (字母表).
When Miss Caroline discovered that I was literate (有读写能力的), she said, “Tell your father not to teach you any more. It’s best to begin reading and writing with a fresh mind.”
After supper that night, Atticus sat down with the paper and called, “Scout, ready to read?”
I told Atticus I didn’t feel very well and didn’t think I’d go to school any more if it was all right with him.
“You never went to school and you do all right, so I’ll just stay home too. You can teach me like Granddaddy taught you.”
“No, I can’t,” said Atticus. “I have to make a living. Besides, they’d put me in prison if I kept you at home. Now what’s the matter?”
I told him what happened at school. “Miss Caroline said you taught me all wrong, so we can’t ever read any more. Please don’t send me back, please sir.”
“First of all,” he said, “if you can learn a simple trick, Scout, you’ll get along a lot better with all kinds of people. You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view—”
“Sir?”
“—until you climb into his skin and walk around in it.”
Atticus continued, “You learned many things today. Miss Caroline learned several things herself. We could not expect her to learn all our ways in one day, and we should understand her when she knew no better.”
“But if I keep on going to school, we can’t ever read any more…”
“That’s really worrying you, isn’t it?”
“Yes, sir.”
When Atticus looked at me, I saw the look on his face that always made me expect something. “Do you know what a compromise (妥协) is?” he asked.
“Breaking the law?”
“No, an agreement. It works this way,” he said. “If you promise me to go to school, we’ll go on reading every night as usual. Is it OK?”
“Yes sir!”

It was Saturday. Usually Gary went to the park on Saturday mornings to play football with Matt, Joe and Karen. Today they went to the Crossbridge Football Club. Gary was missing them already. Lying on the bed, he studied the Crossbridge Football Club application form. There would be another chance to take the test to enter the club in six weeks. He could get in if he passed the test and paid the fees (费用).
He took the form downstairs. In the kitchen his father was making some tea and his mother was reading the newspaper.
“You look very serious this morning, Gary.” said his mum.
“I was thinking about how to get into the Football Club,” said Gary.
“But it’s too late now, isn’t it?” said his dad.
“I can take the test again in six weeks, but if I pass, I’ll have to pay. It says so on the application form.” said Gary.
“Let me have a look,” said Dad. Gary’s mum and dad looked at the list of fees and fell into silence for a while. Gray knew they were thinking about the cost.
“Sorry, son,” said Gary’s dad, “we can only afford to pay half of the cost. You could pay the other half by getting a part-time job, but what about the tests? Do you think you can pass it?”
Gary thought for a moment. “No problem,” he said, “I’ll pass the test and I’ll get a job. You’ll see.”
Crossbridge Football Club was in a large modern building on the edge of town. Matt, Joe and Karen sat in the dining hall at the end of their first day in the club. The dining hall was full of young people laughing and talking.

“Well, I didn’t enjoy myself,” said Joe.
“Neither did I,” said Matt. “Something’s missing.”

The Nautilus (鹦鹉螺号)
We entered a room brightly lit by electric lamps. Captain (船长) Nemo invited me to take a seat. “Professor Aronnax, welcome to my submarine (潜水艇), the Nautilus. Here, you will see wonders unknown to the surface world.”
The room was filled with strange instruments. On one wall hung a large map showing ocean currents (洋流). In the center stood a black table covered with navigation (航海) tools. Through a thick glass window, I saw schools of colourful fish swimming past like living rainbows.
“Your submarine… How does it move?” I asked.
“By electricity,” replied Nemo. “Electricity powers everything: light, heat, even our oxygen. The Nautilus can go to depths no human has ever reached. It is made of iron and it can bear huge pressure.”
He led me to a small library. Shelves held thousands of books in different languages. Soft light came from lamps. “Knowledge is freedom,” Nemo said quietly. “Here, I am free.”
Suddenly, a low sound spread through the ship. “We are falling down,” Nemo explained. He invited me to the control room where sailors (水手) stood at giant wheels. Through the front window, the dark ocean seemed endless. A deep blue light was around us.
“Look!” Nemo pointed. A huge fish floated past, its arms touching the glass. My heart raced, but the captain smiled calmly, “The sea holds many secrets, Professor. Fear has no place here.”
Later, in the dining room, we ate dishes from unknown sea plants and fish. “Everything comes from the ocean,” Nemo said. “It provides all we need.” He spoke excitedly about underwater forests. I realized this man was not just a sailor—he was also a scientist, an inventor, and a poet of the deep sea.
As I returned to my room, I touched the cold walls. Though I was a prisoner, I felt a strange excitement. What new discoveries waited for us in this universe?
1.What powered the Nautilus submarine according to Captain Nemo?
A.Water power. B.A fire engine. C.Electricity. D.Wind power.
2.Which words can be used to describe Captain Nemo?
A.Lazy but powerful. B.Common and careful.
C.Strict and humorless. D.Creative and knowledgeable.
3.What can we infer from the passage?
A.The Nautilus couldn’t go very deep. B.Captain Nemo was afraid of water.
C.The professor was the owner of the ship. D.Captain Nemo loved the ocean very much.
4.What might happen next in the story?
A.The submarine would return to land at once.
B.They would explore more underwater wonders.
C.Professor Aronnax would get rid of the Nautilus.
D.Captain Nemo would give up the submarine.

In recent years, we have learned a lot about Yingge dance from social media. Its exciting performance at the 2025 Spring Festival Gala also impressed many people.
This winter vacation, I went back to my hometown Shantou, a place known for its rich culture and traditions. Luckily, I had the chance to watch Yingge dance up close. I stood on the street with many locals and visitors, waiting for the performers to arrive. Soon, a red flag with the words “Shengqian Yingge Team” led the way, followed by a big group of energetic dancers. The performers wore bright, colorful clothes and carried wooden sticks. I heard the sound of gongs (锣) and sticks. They moved their sticks skillfully, making them seem like part of their bodies. Sometimes, they shouted, making the performance even more exciting. The mix of music, movement and sound brought joy to everyone.
The biggest surprise was seeing my uncle dance! After the show, he told me that Yingge Dance came from old stories about heroes. We made the dance faster and clothes more colorful to interest young people. I realized they weren’t just keeping the tradition, but also changing it for today. That’s why Shantou now has over 50 Yingge teams, many with teenage members. By mixing old and new ideas, Yingge dance helps people love their culture and feel connected. Traditions can stay alive if we pass them on in creative ways.
1.What first showed the arrival of Yingge dancers?
A.The sound of drums and gongs. B.A red flag with team name.
C.Sounds from the tourists and locals. D.The mix of music and movements.
2.Why did the dancers make the performance faster and brighter?
A.To follow traditional rules. B.To save time during the show.
C.To attract younger people. D.To compete with other teams.
3.Which is the right order of the following events according to the passage?
① I realized the importance of mixing old and new ideas.
② I saw a red flag and heard the sound of gongs.
③ My uncle explained the history of Yingge Dance.
④ Performers danced with wooden sticks and shouted.
A.②④③① B.②③①④ C.④③①② D.④②①③
4.What is the main purpose of this passage?
A.To list the steps of performing Yingge Dance.
B.To discuss the history of Shantou’s traditions.
C.To share how a cultural tradition is being renewed.
D.To compare Yingge Dance with other modern dances.
【答案】1.B 2.C 3.A 4.C

Laurie had just come home from school when she heard a light hammering (敲击) sound coming from Grandpa’s study. Curious, she tapped on the door. “Grandpa? Can I come in?”
“Just a second!” Grandpa answered. Laurie heard lots of shuffling (拖着脚走). “Enter!”
Grandpa was sitting empty-handed at his desk, but there were wood shavings (刨花) everywhere. “Aren’t you supposed to be at school?” he asked.
“It’s over at three. What were you doing here?” Laurie said curiously. She saw something wooden underneath a book. “Aha!” she cried, pulling the object out. “What’s this?”
“Well, that’s your birthday gift. But now it won’t be a surprise,” Grandpa said.
It was a wooden crocodile (鳄鱼) with a string (线) on the top of its head so the mouth could be opened and shut.
“It’s an ancient Egyptian (埃及的) toy,” Grandpa said. “I made this, but if you were a child in ancient Egypt, you might have something similar. Crocodiles were an important part of Egyptian life, and many crocodiles lived in the Nile River.”
“The Egyptians depended on the Nile River for many things. It flooded every year, giving much-needed water and nutrients (营养物) to the land. This made farming easy for the Egyptians. The soft, wet land also made good mud (土) for building mud-brick houses.”
“And the river provided the people of the area with a convenient highway for transportation and communication.”
“Ancient Egypt was an agricultural society. If you were a little Egyptian girl living about four thousand years ago, your father would probably be a grain farmer. Grains were the most common crop, especially wheat and barley, which were used to make bread and beer—the most typical food and drink.”
“Unluckily, children didn’t go to school like you do now. You’d probably spend most days helping your parents. During the harvest season maybe you would bundle (捆扎) wheat up on the farm. Or perhaps you’d be at home, helping to cook or take care of the vegetable garden near your house.”
Just then, Mom called from downstairs, “Laurie! I’m home!”
“Hi, Mom! I’ll be right down!” Laurie said. “Thanks, Grandpa. I’ll pretend (假装) I never saw this,” she said, putting the crocodile back on the desk. “Until next time!”
“Until next time! Bye, Laurie!”

In a small village, a very sick girl, Maggie, was found by the roadside. The villagers felt pity for the poor child.
“Take her to the poorhouse,” a villager suggested.
“The poorhouse is a sad place for a sick and helpless child,” answered another.
They discussed for a while but still no one seemed willing to take her.
Finally, Joe Thompson, a kind man, couldn’t leave Maggie behind. He carried her home gently.
As he got home, Jane, his childless, ill-tempered (易怒的) wife, angrily questioned, “What did you bring her here for?”
“She is too weak to walk,” replied Joe. “I will carry her to the poorhouse tomorrow and the guardians (管理人) there must be seen first.”
“Why not get the whole thing off your hands tonight?”
“Keep this poor child for a single night, please,” begged Joe, voice shaking, tears hidden. Jane didn’t answer, but a soft feeling rose in her heart.
“Treat her nicely,” said Joe. “Think of the loneliness, pain and sadness in her coming life.” Jane went quietly into the room where Maggie was in. Joe didn’t follow. He noticed that Jane’s attitude (态度) had changed. She sat by Maggie’s bed, talking kindly to her. Maggie’s eyes were fixed upon Jane. The little girl’s expression was sad yet thankful.
“What are you going to do with Maggie?” Jane asked after supper.
“You knew she was to go to the poorhouse,” replied Joe.

Sarah stood in front of the mirror (镜子). “It looks like a raincoat on me,” she said.
“Perhaps the blue,” said Mama, gently.
“Sure,” the shopkeeper said. But when he took the blue coat, there on the shelf behind all of the dark coats, hidden like a spring flower in winter darkness, there, as if by magic, was a pink coat.
“A pink coat!” Sarah cried. “I want the pink coat.”
“That coat is smaller than the other ones,” Papa said.
Sarah spoke up, “I’m small too. Papa, please let me try it on. Mama? Please?”
“It wouldn’t hurt to let her try it on,” Mama said.
Without a word, the shopkeeper took the coat from the shelf and held it for Sarah.
“Ohhh!” Sarah said. The coat was smooth and shiny inside like her sister Sylvia’s blouses. “Ahhh!”
Sarah stood very straight and looked in the mirror. She looked for a very long time. In the pink coat she looked like a spring flower.
“Sarah!” Mama said.
Sarah looked up. Mama was standing behind her. She was holding the brown coat.
“I’m afraid the pink coat will only fit one year,” Mama said, taking a step closer.
“And there’s no one to pass it on to,” said Papa.
And the shopkeeper said, “It’s wise to save money.”
Sarah backed away. No one was going to put her into a raincoat again. She wanted to be a flower.
“Sarah!” It was Papa. He came over to her. “You’re old enough to know that you can’t always have your own way,” he said seriously.
“Wise and true,” said the shopkeeper.
Sarah took off the pink coat, slowly.
“It is her colour, though,” Mama said.
“Ahh,” said the shopkeeper. “Anyone can see how the pink of the coat brings out the roses in her face.”
Papa looked thoughtful for a moment.
“We are lucky,” continued Mama, “that it is only one little coat for Sarah and not also new coats for Sylvia and Susan and Sally.”
Papa looked from the brown coat to the pink coat. “The cows will give milk soon enough,” he said. “And how can we let Sarah wear a brown coat when she looks like a flower in this one?”
“Papa!” Sarah cried, putting on the pink coat back, quickly. She threw her arms around Papa’s neck. “_____” she whispered.
“Like a rose in spring,” Papa said.

B.How does the coat look?
C.I do look like a flower, don’t I?

When her family sold the farm and moved to nearby town, Emma was excited. But when she got to the new school, she felt very lonely.
With a sigh (叹气), Emma turned her attention back to the present. The bus came to a stop. “Welcome to the Leinweber Nature Centre,” her teacher said. “A guide will give us a presentation about animals, and then you’ll help to feed the baby squirrels. Now, I want everyone to find a partner.”
Emma didn’t have any friends yet—who would be her partner? Emma got close to Julia, a talkative and outgoing girl. “Could I be your partner?” Emma asked uncertainly.
“Sure,” said Julia warmly.
Together, the girls walked into the centre. After the presentation, a keeper showed them how to hold the bottle of milk for baby squirrels. Then the girls started to feed their own baby squirrels.
After the babies finished eating, the keeper asked, “Would you like to help feed the adult squirrels too?”
Emma was quick to volunteer, but when the keeper opened the first cage, the squirrel inside jumped out. Emma remained calm, held out her hand, made quiet sounds, and then quickly got it.
“Wow!” Julia said. “You’re always so quiet. I thought you were afraid of everything, but you were brave.”
“I know that when animals are frightened or excited, you have to stay calm.”
The keeper nodded in agreement and asked Emma, “Would you be interested in volunteering to help out with the animals at the centre?”

An author once said, “We live far happier lives when we are generous in as many ways as possible.”
Here’s an example of my own: I love persimmons. They make me happy. The sweet, bright orange fruit was the symbol of autumn in Iran, where I grew up; they also grow in California, where I now live. A few years ago, preparing to travel from San Francisco to Boston, I packed two persimmons, one of which I ate in the flight departure lounge, waiting to board the plane.
A lady came up and asked from which store in the airport the fruit was bought. She looked a bit disappointed hearing that it couldn’t be bought from any airport vendor and returned to her seat. I thought to myself I can give the second persimmon away. When I offered her the fruit, she at first refused, but when I insisted, she was glad and appreciatively accepted. I was so happy to have made someone else happy, and that, I thought, was the end of the story.
Sometime during the flight, the lady caught up with me to thank me again for the persimmon. She shared that she had grown up in Japan, where there was a persimmon tree in the yard of her childhood home. She now lived in Boston, where she hadn’t been able to find the fruit. The taste of this one persimmon was precious to her, reconnecting her with memories of her parents and grandparents the way only our senses of taste and smell are able, as if magically.
Only then did the tiny act make a difference to me. As a famous saying goes “Giving is receiving”. I am moved by it to this day, and the taste of the persimmon that I offered to the lady gives me more joy than all the ones I have eaten.
My experience is not unique. Research has shown that acts of generosity for others make us happier than treating ourselves. A 2008 study found that despite participants’ predictions to the contrary, giving money to someone else increased their own happiness more than spending it on themselves.
1.From the passage, what can we know about persimmons?
A.They can grow in Boston. B.They are a kind of oranges.
C.They are usually harvested in fall. D.They sell well in California.
2.Why did the lady thank the author twice for the persimmon?
A.Because she wanted to have a talk with the author.
B.Because she knew the author liked persimmons.
C.Because she recalled memories with her family.
D.Because she found the persimmon very delicious.
3.What is the purpose of the study of the last part of the text?
A.To give an example. B.To make readers believe the author’s view.
C.To make a comparison. D.To share the experience.
4.Which of the following can be the best title for the passage?
A.I Love Persimmons B.An Unforgettable Flight
C.A Lovely Lady D.The Impact of a Tiny Act of Generosity

Jo was the first to wake. She remembered her mother’s promise, and, putting her hand under her pillow(枕头), drew out a littered-covered book. She loved it. She woke Meg up and asked her to see what was under her pillow. A green-covered book appeared. Then Beth and Amy woke, to find their little books also.
“Girls,” said Meg seriously, “Mother wants us to read and love these books, and we must begin at once. I shall read a little every morning, for I know it will do me good.”
And then they opened the new books and read. The rooms were very quiet, and the winter sunshine shone in to touch the serious faces with a Christmas greeting.
“Where is Mother?” asked Meg, as she ran down to thank her for their gifts, half an hour later.
“Some poor men come for help, and Mrs. March went straight off to see what was needed,” replied Hannah, who was considered more as a friend than a servant.
“She will be back soon, so we must get everything ready,” said Meg, looking over the presents which were collected in a basket, ready to be given to their mother at the proper time. “Why, where is Amy’s bottle of cologne(古龙香水)?” she wondered.
“She took it out a minute ago,” replied Jo.
“There’s Mother. Hide the basket, quick!” cried Jo, as door opened, and steps sounded in the hall.
Amy hurried in, and looked rather ashamed(羞愧的)when she saw her sisters all waiting for her.
“Where have you been, and what are you hiding behind you?” asked Meg, surprised to see that lazy Amy had been out so early.
“You see, I felt ashamed of my present, so I ran round the corner and changed the little bottle for a big one and I gave all my money for it; and I’m truly trying not to be selfish any more.”
Another bang(砰砰作响)of the street door sent the girls to the table.
“Merry Christmas, Marmee! Thank you for our books; we love them,” they said together. “Merry Christmas, little daughters! I’m glad you like the books. But I want to say one word before we sit down. Not far from here lies a poor woman with a little new-born baby. They were suffering hunger and cold. My girls, will you give them your breakfast as a Christmas present?”
They were all unusually hungry, having waited for nearly an hour, and for a minute no one spoke; only a minute, for Jo said, “I’m so glad you came before we began!”

A.His teacher. B.Mullet Fingers and Beatrice.

Jane looked strangely at Joe and her eyes dropped.

On the Day of the Dead (It’s a festival in Mexico for remembering the dead. On that day, Mexican people smile instead of (代替) crying. Emma stared (凝视) sadly out of the window of the bus. Only 50 miles outside town was the farm. She thought about the farm all the time, especially the animals.
“Interested? I would love to work here! What an opportunity!” Emma was excited.
