But as the editors and critics, we selected a group of pictures with fantastic scenes and touching emotions. Train Dreams Clint Bentley’s remarkable adaptation of Denis Johnson’s novel about a woodcutter at the start of the 20th century, that burning urge to be remembered, to make it significant, turns into a more meaningful goal: to feel. It’s in the present, in the whispered words of a loved one and a child’s laughter. If I Had Legs I’d Kick You Written and directed by Mary Bronstein, it tells the story of Linda, a woman on the edge of a breakdown, as the roof literally collapses on her home while she balances the medical needs of her sick child and patients at her therapy practice. It is an unforgettable experience of empathy and an understanding of the chaotic, imperfect essence of parenting. Eephus It takes place on the final day at a local Massachusetts ballfield planned for replacement by a new middle school. It is a detailed film. The accuracy of the gameplay — which includes the proper positioning of the fielders — provides further reliability. Carson Lund, the director, either placed the camera from a fielder’s view or allowed the film to linger on the moments where nothing yet everything seems to happen. 1. What is the common feature of the selected movies? A. They are set in the 20th century. B. They are directed by the English. C. They are amazing and moving stories. D. They are adapted from literary works. 2. What does the woodcutter in Train Dreams finally value most? A. Achieving great success. B. Enjoying present moments. C. Being remembered by others. D. Following the words of a lover. 3. What makes Eephus a reliable film according to the text? A. The famous director. B. The accurate description. C. The unique camera angles. D. The historical background. C 2. B 3. 根据第一段中“But as the editors and critics, we selected a group of pictures with fantastic scenes and touching emotions.(但作为编辑和评论家,我们挑选了一组具有精彩场景和感人情感的影片)”可知,这些被选中的电影的共同特点是它们都有精彩场景和感人情感。 根据Train Dreams部分中“that burning urge to be remembered, to make it significant, turns into a more meaningful goal: to feel. It’s in the present, in the whispered words of a loved one and a child’s laughter.(那种渴望被铭记、渴望变得有意义的强烈愿望,变成了一个更有意义的目标:去感受。它存在于当下,存在于爱人的低语和孩子的笑声中)”可知,《火车梦》中的伐木工人最终最看重的是享受当下。故选B项。 【3题详解】 细节理解题。根据Eephus部分中“It is a detailed film. The accuracy of the gameplay — which includes the proper positioning of the fielders — provides further reliability.(影片细节极为丰富,其比赛场景的准确性——包括守场员的正确站位——进一步增强了真实感)”可知,《伊菲斯》这部电影之所以真实可信,是因为它对比赛的描述非常准确。故选B项。 B Being a student at Cambridge University gives you a great many opportunities to take part in its traditional activities. Rowing is among the most popular. In my first term as a student, I decided to give this sport a go and joined my college boat club. One of the first things I learned was that rowing training comes in two parts: land training and water training. Land training on erg machines helped me get used to the basics of correct movement, techniques and rhythm. Since rowing is very much a team sport, all eight rowers in the boat must move together as one in order to deliver an efficient and powerful stroke. Water training allowed me to apply all the techniques to the context of a boat on water. There were certainly more challenges on water than on land because it was hard for us to keep our boat balanced. The first few sessions out on the water were sometimes difficult but gradually helped us improve our confidence and trust in each other. Halfway through the term I also decided to give coxing a go. I was not aware of the important role a coxswain (舵手) played in rowing before I became one myself. Having to do many things at the same time was certainly a challenge. Controlling a boat is not always easy, especially around tight corners of the river. Making the right decisions about what my rowers should do sometimes felt like a lot of responsibility. The complex aspects of this role felt like a great opportunity for me to develop some key decision-making skills which I didn’t expect before joining a boat club. By the end of the first term at university, my team had competed in two races—Clare Novice Regatta and the Fairbairns’ Cup. I was initially really nervous before these races, but bit by bit they became very exciting. Looking back on this term of rowing and coxing, it has been a wonderful experience full of little surprises along the way. Rowing really helped me connect better with my own body. 4. Why did the author join the boat club in college? A. To develop teamwork skills. B. To take part in a famous race. C. To try a popular traditional sport. D. To make many like-minded friends. 5. What can we learn from the land training of rowing? A. It is much harder than the water training. B. It helps one get basic skills in rowing. C. It applies techniques to a boat model. D. It teaches how to keep a boat balanced. 6. What can we infer about the role of a coxswain? A. It needs one to handle multiple tasks at a time. B. It is a challenging job with little responsibility. C. It is simple to control a boat around tight corners. D. It offers a good chance to make quick decisions. 7. Which of the following best describes the author? A. Cautious and anxious. B. Curious and responsible. C. Passionate and humorous. D. Dependent and patient. C 5. B 6. A 7. 根据第一段中的“Rowing is among the most popular. In my first term as a student, I decided to give this sport a go and joined my college boat club. (赛艇便是其中最受欢迎的一项活动。在我作为学生的第一个学期,我决定尝试一下这项运动,并加入了学院的划艇队。)”可知,作者加入划艇俱乐部是因为赛艇是剑桥一项受欢迎的传统运动,他想尝试一下。故选C。 【5题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段中的“Land training on erg machines helped me get used to the basics of correct movement, techniques and rhythm. (在功率机上进行的陆上训练帮助我掌握了正确的动作、技巧和节奏的基本要素。)”可知,陆地训练帮助作者掌握了赛艇的基本技能。故选B。 【6题详解】 推理判断题。根据第四段中的“Having to do many things at the same time was certainly a challenge. Controlling a boat is not always easy, especially around tight corners of the river. Making the right decisions about what my rowers should do sometimes felt like a lot of responsibility. (同时处理很多事情对我来说无疑是一个挑战。操控一艘船并非总是轻而易举之事,尤其是在河流的急转弯处更是如此。对于如何让我的划手们做出正确的动作,有时我感觉自己肩负着巨大的责任。)”可推断,舵手需要同时处理多项任务(操控方向、做决策等),责任重大。故选A。 根据第一段中的“In my first term as a student, I decided to give this sport a go and joined my college boat club. (在我作为学生的第一个学期,我决定尝试一下这项运动,并加入了学院的赛艇队。)”第四段中的“Making the right decisions about what my rowers should do sometimes felt like a lot of responsibility. (对于如何让我的划手们做出正确的动作,有时我感觉自己肩负着巨大的责任。)”及全文可知,作者出于好奇尝试赛艇和舵手角色,并认真对待训练和比赛,在舵手角色中感受到重大责任。故选B。 C Imagine this: You’re tapping on your phone. Instantly, you’re taken to vlogs on Xiaohongshu, where peers are speaking fluent English with foreigners, debating in cafes or attending exchange programs in Sydney. Seeing these glamorous lives, you may ask: Why does everyone else’s life look perfect — except mine? Social media gives us a glimpse into lives we might never see otherwise. However, it also makes the differences between people’s lives more apparent. While international school students can wear makeup without being judged for it, others wake up before sunrise, study through lunch, and stay at school until 10:30 p. m. After seeing such contrasts, curiosity about the world slowly turns into anxiety — or even frustration. But what you see online isn’t the full picture. Most students in the country live similar lives to yours, but they simply don’t share them online. Even if they do, their posts are rarely noticed or recommended by algorithms. Worse still, the more of these vlogs a person watches, the more similar contents the platform feeds them. Without realizing it, young people may get trapped in an information cocoon created by the platform. In today’s world of endless social media, knowing how to question the content we see is an important skill. How can we stay logical and see the real world clearly? That’s what matters. We need to remember that social media is naturally selective. People usually share moments of success, beauty or excitement, not their daily struggles, failures or ordinary routines. Lighting, camera angles and filters (滤镜) can change how things appear. It’s also important to ask questions. Why was this posted? Who benefits from me seeing this? That video of students debating in a cafe may well be sponsored by the cafe. Ads, sponsorships and algorithms often decide what we see. Platforms also have a responsibility. They should set rules that require influencers to clearly label sponsored or edited contents. It’s also important to monitor platforms in ways that protect mental health. When we use apps wisely, we can go from being passive viewers to active users and creators. I recommend that these platforms should provide us with new approaches to learning and growing, not leave us feeling stressed. 8. What is the author’s purpose in writing the first paragraph? A. To show the appealing online lives. B. To explain how to live a great digital life. C. To prove that social media can cause some problems. D. To introduce the topic of social media anxiety. 9. What does the underlined phrase “information cocoon” in paragraph 3 mean? A. A state for users to get limited information. B. A rule for users to customize contents. C. A space for users to learn diverse knowledge. D. A tool for platforms to filter out useless contents. 10. Why does the author mention the video in paragraph 6? A. To promote debate videos. B. To sponsor the behavior of platforms. C. To show the benefit of ads and algorithms. D. To prove the importance of raising questions. 11. What does the author suggest platforms do? A. Offer users new ways to grow. B. Set rules to edit contents. C. Protect users’ visual health. D. Leave users feeling worried. D 9. A 10. D 11. 根据第一段中“Imagine this; You’re tapping on your phone. Instantly, you’re taken to vlogs on Xiaohongshu, where peers are speaking fluent English with foreigners, debating in cafes or attending exchange programs in Sydney. Seeing these glamorous lives, you may ask: Why does everyone else’s life look perfect — except mine?(想象一下:你正刷着手机,转眼就被小红书上的vlog吸引——同龄人正用流利的英语与外国人交谈,在咖啡馆里辩论,或是在悉尼参加交换项目。 根据第三段中“Worse still, the more of these vlogs a person watches, the more similar contents the platform feeds them. Without realizing it, young people may get trapped in an information cocoon created by the platform.(更糟糕的是,一个人看的这些视频博客越多,平台就会给他们推送越多相似的内容。在不知不觉中,年轻人可能会陷入平台创造的information cocoon中)”可知,年轻人看的视频越多,平台推送的内容越相似,最终他们会陷入一个信息受限的状态,由此可推知,“information cocoon”意为“用户获取有限信息的状态”。故选A项。 根据第六段“It’s also important to ask questions. Why was this posted? Who benefits from me seeing this? That video of students debating in a cafe may well be sponsored by the cafe. Ads, sponsorships and algorithms often decide what we see.(提出问题也很重要。为什么要发布这个?谁从我看到这个中受益?那段学生在咖啡馆辩论的视频很可能是由咖啡馆赞助的。广告、赞助和算法往往决定着我们看到什么)”可知,作者提到咖啡馆辩论的视频,是为了举例说明,我们应该对看到的内容提出质疑(如其发布动机、背后利益),从而论证了“提出问题”的重要性。故选D项。 【11题详解】 细节理解题。根据最后一段“When we use apps wisely, we can go from being passive viewers to active users and creators. I recommend that these platforms should provide us with new approaches to learning and growing, not leave us feeling stressed.(当我们明智地使用应用程序时,我们可以从被动的观众变成积极的用户和创造者。我建议这些平台应该为我们提供新的学习和成长方式,而不是让我们感到压力)”可知,作者建议平台应该为用户提供新的学习和成长方式。故选A项。 D The AI-powered chatbot ChatGPT is taking the Internet by storm with its impressive language capabilities, helping to draw up legal contracts as well as write fiction. But it turns out that the underlying technology could also help spot the early signs of Alzheimer’s disease. The researchers tested their approach on a collection of 237 audio recordings from healthy volunteers and Alzheimer’s patients, which were first converted to text using a pre-trained speech recognition model. To enlist the help of GPT-3, the researchers made use of one of its less well- known capabilities. AI makes it possible to feed a chunk of text into the model and get back what is known as an “embedding” — a numerical representation of a piece of text that encodes its meaning and can be used to assess its similarity to other text. While most machine learning deals with word embeddings, one of the novel features of GPT-3, says Liang, a computer science professor, is that it’s powerful enough to generate embeddings for entire paragraphs. And because of the model’s vast size and the amount of text it was trained on, it is also able to capture very rich representations of the text. The researchers used this capability to create embeddings for all of the transcripts from both Alzheimer’s patients and healthy individuals. When tested on unseen text, the best classifier achieved an accuracy of 80 per cent, as reported in a paper in PLOS Digital Health. This was significantly better than the 74 per cent the researchers achieved using a more conventional approach to the speech data, which relied on manually annotating features by experts. While the team achieves state-of-the-art results, Francois, an AI researcher at the University of Toronto, says relying on privately owned models to carry out this kind of research does raise some problems. “Part of the AI claims is that these models can’t inspect or modify (修改) their internals,” he said. Nevertheless, Liang and his colleagues are planning to see if they can be applied in a doctor’s office to assist in the detection of early-stage Alzheimer’s. 12. What is the text mainly about? A. The wide applications of ChatGPT in daily work. B. The potential of GPT-3 in treating Alzheimer’s disease. C. A comparison of different AI models in medical treatment. D. An AI-based way for detecting early signs of Alzheimer’s disease. 13 What makes GPT-3 powerful according to the text? A. Its small model size and simple structure. B. Its large capacity with other classifiers. C. Its large scale and plentiful training text. D. Its good performance in processing word. 14. What problem does Francois point out about the technology? A. It can’t be widely applied in medicine. B It relies on experts to mark speech data features by hand. C. It fails to get the best results in testing Alzheimer’s disease. D. It can not adjust the internal structure of private models. 15. What do Liang and his colleagues plan to do next? A. Improve the model’s accuracy. B. Develop a more efficient model. C. Reduce the reliance on privately owned AI models. D. Apply the technology in a doctor’s office for Alzheimer’s detection. D 13. C 14. D 15. 通读全文,尤其第一段“The AI-powered chatbot ChatGPT is taking the Internet by storm with its impressive language capabilities, helping to draw up legal contracts as well as write fiction. But it turns out that the underlying technology could also help spot the early signs of Alzheimer’s disease.(由人工智能驱动的聊天机器人ChatGPT在互联网上掀起了一阵热潮,其语言能力令人惊叹,它不仅能起草法律合同,还能创作小说。 根据文章第三段“And because of the model’s vast size and the amount of text it was trained on, it is also able to capture very rich representations of the text.(由于模型的规模庞大,以及用于训练的文本量巨大,它还能够捕捉到非常丰富的文本表示。)” 根据文章倒数第二段“Part of the AI claims is that these models can’t inspect or modify (修改) their internals(人工智能的部分说法是,这些模型无法检查或修改其内部结构)”可知,Francois指出这项技术存在的问题是它无法调整私有模型的内部结构。 根据文章最后一段“Nevertheless, Liang and his colleagues are planning to see if they can be applied in a doctor’s office to assist in the detection of early-stage Alzheimer’s. (尽管如此,梁和他的同事们仍计划看看是否可以在医生的办公室里应用这些技术,以协助检测早期阿尔茨海默病。)”可知,梁和他的同事们计划下一步在医生的办公室里应用这项技术来检测早期阿尔茨海默病。故选D项。 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Most of the world’s glaciers (冰川) are in the polar regions. The glaciers in Antarctica and Greenland make up about 99 percent of the world’s total, said the US National Snow and Ice Data Center. ____16____. This leads to higher sea levels, which can cause floods in coastal areas. Protecting glaciers, especially in polar regions, is important. With polar tourism growing rapidly, ____17____. One way to help is by choosing your transportation carefully, according to the BBC. While cruise ships are a popular way to travel to the poles, they bring large groups of people and often don’t benefit the local community. Planes can also be harmful because they release a lot of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. ____18____. Traveling by train can reduce your carbon emissions by up to 90 percent, and some parts of the Arctic, like Norway, are easy to reach by train. ____19____. It has a much lower environmental impact compared to large cruise ships. These smaller ships typically limit passenger numbers, reducing fuel use, waste production, and the physical disturbance to pristine habitats. In brief, there are more environmentally friendly alternatives for traveling to such remote areas. ____20____. Shipping food to the poles uses a lot of energy and increases carbon emissions. In places like Greenland, locals hunt seals as part of their traditional life. Although eating seals might seem unusual, it has a much lower environmental impact than importing meats from other places. A. it’s appealing to explore the polar regions B. Many tourists are eager to take photos of glaciers C. Instead, taking a train is a better option if you can D. However, as temperatures rise, glaciers are disappearing rapidly E. For her birthday, Renae’s grandmother surprised her with an adorable gray puppy named Chloe. From the very start, the two were inseparable. “She was my best friend,” Renae said. Every ounce of love Renae gave, the little dog returned tenfold. “She was such a sweet dog,” Renae said. “She’d lick your face forever if you didn’t stop her.” But when Renae was 14, her father got a new job that came with a terrible problem: He’d be working from home, and the house needed to be free of audible (听得见的) distractions. “Chloe was very yappy (喜欢叫嚷的),” Renae said. “I was just a kid, so I didn’t have any choice in the matter. I didn’t want to get rid of my dog. I just felt so sick and sad about it.” With no easier option, the family sent Chloe to an animal shelter. Before saying goodbye, the staff told them they would implant a microchip (微芯片) with a unique ID number in Chloe. If she was lost or brought back, her identity could be confirmed. Though they were optimistic that the dog would find a new home with people who loved her, they couldn’t know for sure. “I called the animal shelter society to try to find out what happened to her,” Renae said, “but they couldn’t tell me anything. So I never knew.” Renae went on to go to college, graduate, get married, and had a child of her own. But her family didn’t feel quite complete. Remembering the joy that having a dog had brought her as a kid, Renae wanted her daughter to experience the same. One day she saw a post on Facebook about a senior dog. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ But Renae realized they can scan the microchip to test whether it was Chloe. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】【参考范文】 One day she saw a post on Facebook about a senior dog. The dog in the photograph looked a lot like Chloe. She decided to adopt this older dog. When she met the dog, Renae was struck with a familiar feeling. The dog ran up to her and started licking her face. It reminded her so much of her old dog that the emotion overwhelmed her. “I was crying. I just knew in my heart that it was my Chloe.” Still, many years had passed since Renae saw Chloe, so the notion seemed to be little more than wishful thinking. Her whole family thought she was crazy. But Renae realized they can scan the microchip to test whether it was Chloe. She took the dog to the animal shelter to have its chip scanned to confirm its ID number. “The numbers were a match,” Renae says. “I felt like I’d won the lottery.” After years of thinking she’d never see her dog again, Renae is overjoyed to have Chloe back. “I got so excited to come home and see her,” she said. As for Chloe, “she’s made herself right at home,” Renae says. “And why shouldn’t she? She knows that she’ll be with me forever.” 词汇激活 行为类 ①决定:decide to/make a resolution to ②向……跑去:run up to/rush up to ③确认:confirm/identify 情绪类 ①激动:excited/thrilled ②欣喜若狂:overjoyed/over the moon/delighted 【点睛】【高分句型1】When she met the dog, Renae was struck with a familiar feeling. B Being a student at Cambridge University gives you a great many opportunities to take part in its traditional activities. C Imagine this: You’re tapping on your phone. D The AI-powered chatbot ChatGPT is taking the Internet by storm with its impressive language capabilities, helping to draw up legal contracts as well as write fiction. 13. What makes GPT-3 powerful according to the text? A. Its small model size and simple structure. B. Its large capacity with other classifiers. C. Its large scale and plentiful training text. D. Its good performance in processing word. 14. What problem does Francois point out about the technology? A. It can’t be widely applied in medicine. B. It relies on experts to mark speech data features by hand. C. It fails to get the best results in testing Alzheimer’s disease. D. It can not adjust the internal structure of private models. 15. What do Liang and his colleagues plan to do next? A. Improve the model’s accuracy. B. Develop a more efficient model. C Reduce the reliance on privately owned AI models. D. Apply the technology in a doctor’s office for Alzheimer’s detection. Most of the world’s glaciers (冰川) are in the polar regions. Meanwhile think about the food you eat while visiting these remote areas F. But that all changed when she turned ten. “Chloe was very yappy (喜欢叫嚷),” Renae said. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
