Step 2 Work on Activity 5 1.Ask students to read the sentences in Activity 5 and summarise the grammar rules for the passive voice in the simple past tense. 2.Then ask students to find one more example of this structure in the reading passage. 3.Guide students to discuss when and why we use the passive voice. Step 3 Work on Activity 6 1.Ask students to rewrite the active sentences into passive voice with the passive voice in the simple past tense in Activity 6. 2.Check the answers and correct common mistakes.Explain each transformation. Step 4 Work on Activity 7 1.Ask students to complete the messages between Samantha and her dad using the correct form of the words and expressions. 2.Check the answers with the class.Discuss the context of the messages,linking it back to the unit theme of growing pains (parent⁃child conflict over phone use). 3.Explain the usage of key words and expressions in the messages.
