People believed that silk was first invented by Leizu, the wife of the Yellow Emperor. Leizu learned how to make cocoons (蚕茧) into soft and strong cloth. This magical cloth became known as “silk”, and it was so valuable that it was called “China’s Gold”. Following kings’ orders, the Chinese kept the secret of making silk for centuries. But then, something amazing happened! During the Han Dynasty, the brave officer Zhang Qian traveled west as far as Central Asia and brought silk there. As years passed by, silk became so important that the trade road from Europe to China got its name—the Silk Road. The Silk Road became a busy highway for traders who carried things across deserts and mountains. From China, people sold silk and tea. In return, they received treasures such as spices (香料), gold and silver from the West. At the very beginning, it was mainly about trade; then people began to share ideas, technologies and cultures. For example, Chinese inventions like papermaking were spread to the West, while new ideas about math and science came to China. Most importantly, the Silk Road helped different cultures learn from each other. Art, music and even language were shared along this ancient road. In places like the Dunhuang Grottoes (敦煌石窟) in China, you can see how art pieces combined (融合) Eastern and Western styles into something distinctive. It can not be seen anywhere else. The story of the Silk Road tells us how people from faraway lands could become friends through trade and shared ideas. Today, we remember the Silk Road as one of the greatest examples of cooperation and exchange in history. It shows us how important it is to learn about and respect each other’s traditions, and that different cultures can work together to create amazing things. 1.Who invented silk in ancient China? Space scientists have been greatly inspired (赋予灵感) by the old stories and ancient famous people when giving them names. Since thousands of years ago, Chinese people have dreamed of going to the moon. Chang’e Flies to the Moon is one of the most popular stories. As you can see, China’s first man-made satellite to circle around the moon was named Chang’e I. More interestingly, the moon rover (巡视器) was named after the Jade Rabbit, who is the partner of Chang’e in the story. These old stories carry people’s best wishes and dreams. With the development of science and technology, our scientists have made them come true. Kua Fu Runs After the Sun is another story to show how much ancient Chinese people wanted to know about the unknown world. Now, Kua Fu is going with the scientists to “visit” the sun, because we have a space project called KuaFu Mission. Besides the ancient stories, space scientists also get ideas from ancient famous people. For example, Mozi, an ancient scientist, discovered that light travels in a straight line over 2, 000 years ago. His discovery made space study take a big step at that time. So, China’s first quantum (量子) science satellite was named Mozi, making China the first country in the world to achieve quantum communication between satellites and the ground. From such simple things as giving names to the satellites, we can see how great our traditional culture is and what influence it has on our modern science and technology. 1.In China, space scientists get ideas from ________ when naming satellites. ①old stories        ②traditional projects ③ancient famous people        ④ popular inventions A.①② B.①③ C.②④ D.③④ 2.What do we know about Chang’e I according to the passage? Friends shake hands. Women, men and even children can shake hands. Shaking hands seems simple, but there are some important things to remember. When you shake hands, you must look into the other person’s eyes the whole time you’re shaking hands. Shake hands strongly. If you give a weak handshake, the other person might think that you’re not kind. He might also feel that you don’t like him or you don’t want to touch him. Shake hands with men and women the same way. If you shake hands with a very old person or a small child, be careful not to hurt them. Some people don’t know how long to keep shaking. The most common handshake should have three shakes and then you should let go. Don’t worry if Americans shake hands a little longer. Your handshake is like your smile. It’s special to you. You need to find a comfortable strong handshake that shows what you are like. Because the handshake allows people to touch, the hand should be warm, clean and dry. ▪Warm: Put your hands into your pockets before you shake hands. This will warm them. ▪Clean: If you know you’re going to meet someone, wash your hands so they’ll be clean. ▪Dry: Everyone gets nervous and your hands may get wet. It isn’t a good feeling for the other person. Again, put your hands into your pockets. This will dry them. 1.What might other people think if you give a weak handshake in America? A.You’re unfriendly. B.You’re brave. C.You’re friendly. D.You’re outgoing. 2.How many shakes should the most common handshake have? A.Three. B.Four. C.Five. D.Six. 3.What can we do to make our hands warm before shaking hands according to the passage? A.Wash our hands with hot water. B.Put our hands into our pockets. C.Rub our hands with a towel. D.Hold a warm cup in our hands. 4.What can we learn from the passage? A.You can give a weak handshake to children. B.You can shake hands the way you like in the US. C.We should look at the other person’s hands when we shake hands. D.We should keep our hands warm, clean and dry before shaking. 5.What is the main idea of this passage? A.Shaking is easy in the USA. B.Shaking hands politely in the USA. C.Shaking can help solve many problems. This is no longer just a dream — self-driving technology is making it possible. A self-driving car, also called an autonomous (自动驾驶) car, uses sensors (传感器) and computers to sense its surroundings (周围环境) and drive. The technology has different levels. At Level 2, the car can help with speed and lane (车道) control, but the driver must stay ready. At higher levels like L4 it can drive alone in certain areas, like city centers The road to this progress has been long. In 1925, a US inventor showed a car controlled by radio—an early experiment. Later, around the 2000s, competitions pushed the technology forward, and big companies like Tesla and Baidu spent a lot of money. Now, L4 self-driving taxis are being tested in many cities, with millions of rides completed. These cars bring great good changes. Since 94% of car accidents come from human mistakes, they could make roads much safer. They also help people with disabilities (残疾) travel more easily and can reduce pollution. However, challenges remain. The technology is still expensive, and rules about who is responsible (负责的) in an accident are not clear. But as research continues, self-driving cars will become a common part of our lives soon. 1.What is a key ability of L4 self-driving cars? A.Control speed only. B.Drive alone in some areas. I kept wondering why the French were always in such a bad mood. One day, I asked a French friend. “We aren’t really complainers,” he said. “We are râleurs—people who complain just for fun.” Then I knew a complaint is a common starter in French conversations. One could begin talking about the poor restaurant service, even if the meal was mostly great. Such words invite other people to share their opinions. A French complaint is also “something that makes people seem like they’re thinking and not naive (幼稚的),” according to Julie Barlow, co-writer of The Bonjour Effect. Many native English speakers may feel uncomfortable toward the French conversation starter. However, some experts believe that the French attitude may, in fact, be better for their health. According to a 2011 study from the University of Texas, holding back negative emotions can make people more likely to argue or fight. And a 2013 study in Biological Psychiatry found that efforts to regulate negative emotions could be harmful, which might increase the risk of heart diseases. This isn’t to say that complaining is always positive. Complaining too often can get you caught in a situation, actually reshaping your brain to always pay attention to the negative. French râleurs may well avoid this unlucky side effect, because they seldom complain about their own lives but about outside problems. On the whole, hardly ever do the French’s complaints aim to solve problems. Instead, complaining is just part of conversation, a way to build interpersonal connections. 1.How does the writer begin the text? A.By listing numbers. B.By using a saying. C.By giving examples. D.By making a comparison. 2.Why do the French often start a conversation with a complaint? A.To do it for fun. B.To show they are healthy. C.To solve practical problems. D.To express anger about life. 3.What does the underlined word “regulate” mean in paragraph 3? A.Express. B.Increase. C.Destroy. D.Control. 4.According to the text, which of the following “complaints” is most probably from a French râleur? A.The electricity bill this month is scary. B.It’s snowing awfully heavily. C.Losing the job again upset me. D.I had trouble falling asleep last night. 5.In which section of a newspaper can we probably read the text? A.Environment. B.Technology. C.History. D.Culture. 【答案】1.C 2.A 3.D 4.B 5.D 【导语】本文主要讲述了法国人喜欢以抱怨开启对话这一现象及其背后的原因和影响。 1.细节理解题。根据“Many a conversation in France starts with a complaint (抱怨): The weather is bad; the grape harvest is even worse…”可知,作者通过列举天气不好、葡萄收成更差等例子来开始文章。故选C。 2.细节理解题。根据“We are râleurs—people who complain just for fun.”可知,法国人经常以抱怨开启对话是为了好玩。故选A。 3.词句猜测题。根据“And a 2013 study in Biological Psychiatry found that efforts to regulate negative emotions could be harmful, which might increase the risk of heart diseases.”可知,2013年《生物精神病学》上的一项研究发现,努力控制负面情绪可能有害,这可能会增加患心脏病的风险。所以“regulate”意思是“控制”。故选D。 4.推理判断题。根据“French râleurs may well avoid this unlucky side effect, because they seldom complain about their own lives but about outside problems.” D。 People have always been very interested in space, but space can also be dangerous, with big rocks called asteroids (小行星) moving around. Recently, a small asteroid named “2024YR4” has caught lots of attention. On February 7th, 2025, it was reported that the asteroid has a 23% chance of hitting the earth in 2032. To keep our earth safe, Chinese scientists are working hard together. Discovered in December, 2024, “2024YR4” is thought to be 40 to 100 meters wide. Although it’s very far away, over 48 million kilometers, Chinese scientists are watching it closely. They want to find more details (细节). ________. Chinese scientists plan to make use of special telescopes (望远镜). These telescopes, with powerful cameras and smart software, will help scientists observe (观察) the asteroid clearly, giving them more information to think about ways to stop it if it’s coming too close. To find out the asteroid’s path, China will use supercomputers to learn about its size, shape, speed and the influence of other planets’ gravity (重力) on it. China is working on ways to change the asteroid’s path. They have ideas like sending a spaceship to hit it softly or using a spaceship’s pull to slowly change its direction. China’s big plan shows how much it cares about protecting our planet. The scientists believe that if an asteroid does come too close, they can react in a calm and prepared way. 1.Which of the following is the closest in size to “2024YR4”? A.A car. B.A basketball. With over 310 million people aged 60 and above, older adults are exploring new ways to enjoy their later years. Unlike traditional tours that rush from place to place, silver-haired travel focuses on slow-paced plans, cultural experiences and relaxing. The elderly today (born in the 1950s and 1960s) are healthier, more educated, and expect to try new things. For example, Grandma Li from Shanghai recently joined a 12-day cruise (邮轮旅行) to Japan. “We visited ancient buildings, tried local foods, and even danced with new friends on board,” she said, “It was like a dream!” Silver-haired travel isn’t just fun—it’s also good for health. Studies show that traveling improves memory and reduces stress in older adults. In Hainan, a popular place for winter vacations, the elderly enjoy beach walks, yoga classes, and traditional art. “Staying active keeps my mind working,” shared by Mr. Wang. Silver-haired tourism makes differences to local areas. In places like Chengdu and Hangzhou, hotels and restaurants now offer elderly-friendly services, such as easy-to-read menus and walking tours. The industry also creates jobs for tour guides, care-givers, and transportation workers. Moreover, it challenges thoughts about aging. In Xi’an, elderly tourists lead groups to the Terracotta Army, sharing stories that are not written in books. “Hearing their experiences was unforgettable,” said a 15-year-old volunteer. Experts predict silver-haired tourism will grow into a $100 billion industry by 2030. Technology companies are developing apps with voice guides and danger alarms for the elderly. Cities like Suzhou are designing “slow travel” routes (路线) with parks, museums, and tea houses. As the aging population grows bigger, silver-haired tourism shows that growing older doesn’t mean slowing down. It’s a chance to experience, connect, and create memories. Whether boating down the Li River or dancing in Tokyo, the elderly are telling the world that age is just a number. 1.What does the underlined word slow-paced in paragraph 1 mean? A.Fast and meaningful. B.cheap and interesting. C.Expensive and convenient. D.Relaxing and unhurried. 2.What do silver-haired tourists usually do during their trips? A.Rush to visit many places quickly. B.Enjoy slow activities like beach walks. C.Stay in hotels all day and talk a lot. D.Only eat local food and go shopping. 3.Why is traveling helpful for older adults’ health according to the passage? A.It improves memory and cuts down stress. B.It makes them stronger and live longer. C.It gives them more money and free time. D.It helps them make friends and avoid illnesses. 4.Which of the following is NOT mentioned as a future plan for silver-haired tourism? A.Apps with voice guides and alarms. B.“Slow travel” routes in more cities. C.Free travel for all old people. D.Jobs in tourism for local people. 5.What is the main idea of the passage? A.“Silver-haired tourism” becomes popular. B.Traveling is good for the elderly. C.The elderly should travel more. Only about 20 percent of the seafloor has been mapped, and the remaining 80 percent is still a secret to us. Some scientists even think that 91 percent of sea animals have yet to be discovered. So why do we know so little about the deep sea? Well, getting to those depths is very difficult and requires high technology. The first navigable submarine (可驾驶的潜水艇), for example, was built in 1620, and it couldn’t go more than five meters below the surface. For a long time, many scientists didn’t even think that there could be any life at depths greater than 550 meters and didn’t see much need to explore the deep sea. However, this changed in 1862 when life was discovered as far down as 945 meters below sea level with the help of a digging machine. Ten years later, around 4,700 species unknown before were discovered. The discovery of new species has brought great hope to scientists in exploring the deep sea. Since then, high technology has been developed to help explore the deep sea, including satellites. But why is it so difficult? Well, at greater depths, it is freezing, everything is completely dark, and the pressure is greater than that on the surface. Though we have the difficulties, it’s important that we understand the seas. They help control the earth’s temperature, produce half of the oxygen in the air and provide us with information about climate change. Our future depends on learning more about our oceans, and it is possible for us to really understand what is ongoing below the surface. 1.Why are some numbers listed in Paragraph 1? A.To introduce how important oceans are. B.To discuss why sea animals have yet to be found out. C.To explain that oceans cover a large area of the earth. D.To show that we have only a little understanding of oceans. 2.What caused the change in the exploration of the deep sea? A.High technology. B.Unknown species. C.Pleasant environment. D.Valuable information. 3.What does the underlined word “it” in the fourth paragraph refer to? Tired of usual ways of selling, the farmer decided to turn his ready-to-pick sugar cane field into a fun place for activities. He put up signs asking people to “steal” his sugar canes at night. If people could take the sugar canes without being noticed, they could take the sugar cane home for only 9.9 yuan. While if people were caught by the owner or the owner’s dogs, they would have to pay 15 yuan for the sugar cane. This changed a simple buy into an interesting game. The idea quickly caught people’s interest. Visitors, especially young people and families, came to the field in large numbers. They enjoyed walking among the tall canes, picking their own, and “taking” them by pulling them from the ground. The activity was not real stealing, but joining a fun and planned event. People laughed, took many photos and short videos, and shared their special “taking” stories on apps like TikTok and Xiaohongshu. This natural sharing created strong free advertising, bringing even more interested customers. The farmer’s sugar canes sold out fast, and his creative way brought him much notice and money. People like this “game-style” activity because it meets modern needs. First, it makes usual shopping more interesting by giving a special, hands-on experience outdoors. Second, it fits the human love for play and fun, offering happy feelings besides the product itself. Most importantly, it makes content that is easy to share. In today’s online world, an activity that is fun to record and post has great marketing power, turning buyers into activity spreaders. A.His field was destroyed and needed fixing. B.He sold all his sugar canes fast and became well-known. C.He chose to stop growing sugar canes. D.It brought him problems. 4.According to the article, why do people like this “game-style” sales way so much? A.Because the sugar cane is a very hard-to-find product. B.Because it provides a fun, experiential, and easy-to-share activity. C.Because it helps everyone save much money. D.Because it is a very serious farming competition. 5.Where would this article most probably be found? A.In a science study paper on farming. B.In a book about Chinese history. For hundreds of years, people in Taiwan have celebrated the same festivals, like the Lunar New Year and the Mid-Autumn Festival, just like people on the mainland. They share the same traditions, language, and values. Many historical records clearly show that Chinese people have lived and worked on this land since ancient times, making it a part of China’s family. ▲ The island is famous for its delicious and diverse food, which is a very important part of its local culture. Maybe as a famous poet who loved his country. But did you know Lu was also a “slasher” (斜杠青年) of his time? If he had a social media page, it could look like this: poet / government worker / food lover / cat lover. On November 13, people celebrated Lu’s 900th birthday. Born in the Southern Song Dynasty, Lu was one of the most productive poets in Chinese history. About 9,300 of his poems are still known today. Many of his poems show his strong wish to protect his country, which makes him a well-known patriot. As a government worker, Lu tried hard to give advice to the rulers (统治者). At that time, the Southern Song Dynasty was attacked by the Jin Dynasty. Lu spoke loudly against the Song government’s weak actions and asked them to fight back. But because of his strong ideas, he was given a lower position. Although he was unhappy with his government job, Lu found happiness in other hobbies. For example, he loved flowers and food very much. When he worked in the Shu area, he wrote a book naming 65 kinds of peonies (牡丹花). He also wrote more than 100 poems about cooking and growing vegetables. Many think the reason he lived long—to 85 years old—was his healthy eating. He even wrote a poem about why porridge is good for you. Lu also felt comfort from his cats. He wrote funny poems to them, showing how cute they were and how they made him feel warm on cold days. The poems tell us he was truly a “cat person”. As both a dreamer for his country and a lover of life’s small joys, Lu shows us that a full life can have many “slashes”! 1.What might Lu You’s social media profile say? The computer program looks for different kinds of answers or patterns in the data. Big data can have different kinds of information from many sources, such as information that comes from schools, social media (媒体) sites, companies, and governments. One set of data can have people’s names and addresses. Another set can have what they like, where they go, and how much time they spend on the computer. Big data can be used in many ways. The government uses it to understand how many people travel on buses or trains. This information is then used to make bus or train systems better. Some schools use big data to understand which children may need extra (额外的) help in class. The teachers can then give certain students more help or support so those students can succeed in school. Companies use big data, too. It helps them understand who buys their products. For example, one company uses weather data to see when people eat the most ice cream. Big data can be used for good reasons. Some hospitals use big data to predict (预测) if a baby who was born too early will get sick. The hospital can then take extra steps to take care of that baby so he or she does not get sick. Big data can also be used for bad reasons. It can be used to predict which kinds of people are likely to break the law or hurt others, even if they have not done anything wrong. How can big data be used for good and bad things? It is because the computer programs used to look at big data and understand it are written by people. People think in a certain way. But what does that mean? Just like “zero-sugar” foods mean a lighter diet, “zero-sugar” socializing is about simpler connections. It encourages young people to respect personal space, cut down unnecessary communications, and find meaningful ways to get on with others. It is a relaxing and free way to make friends and spend time with them. According to a 2024 social trends report, 54% of young people prefer to “stay in touch but also have time alone”, while only 12.6% of them want to “be together all the time”. This report shows that young people’s social habits are becoming more and more independent nowadays. Those young people who enjoy zero-sugar socializing often do simple things, like joining city walks, visiting local markets, or trying new cafes with a few friends. They avoid social activities that aren’t really needed. By doing these, they can manage their time better and know more about themselves. This new idea shows young people’s wish to slow down and pay attention to what truly matters. Young people think the new way fits their values. Although this new way is fit for some people, it might not be the best for everyone. It’s important not to follow trends without thinking. Whether you prefer “zero-sugar”, “low-sugar”, or “full-sugar” socializing, the important thing is to know what you need. That’s how you can feel confident and happy when you get on with others. “Zero-sugar” socializing does not mean “no socializing at all”. Instead, it follows a Chinese old saying: The friendship between gentlemen is as pure as water. It’s about balancing personal space with meaningful connections. By having connections that suit them, young people can enjoy both the calm of zero-sugar socializing and the joy of traditional relationships. 1.What does “zero-sugar” socializing mean? A.Avoiding all social activities. B.Making as many friends as possible. C.Depending greatly on friends. D.Being independent in making friends. 2.How does the writer develop his idea in Paragraph 3? A.By using sayings. B.By listing numbers. C.By giving examples. D.By explaining meanings. 3.What will people who like “zero-sugar” socializing probably do? A.They will join city walks with a few friends. B.They will often take part in large parties. C.They will try to please everyone around them. D.They will spend much time chatting online with many people. 4.What does the underlined saying mean in the last paragraph? A.“Zero-sugar” socializing is not real friendship. B.Friends should share everything with each other. C.People should stay away from others most of the time. D.“Zero-sugar” socializing balances space and connections. 5.What is the writer’s purpose in writing the text? A.To compare different socializing styles. A.Leizu. B.The kings. C.Zhang Qian. D.The Yellow Emperor. 2.What was spread from China to the West according to paragraph 3? A.Silk and gold. B.Tea and papermaking.C.Spices and silver. D.New ideas of science. 3.What is the right order of the following facts from the passage? ① Zhang Qian traveled west with silk. ②Art and language were shared along the Silk Road. ③ Traders from China and the West exchanged things. ④The Chinese were ordered to keep the secret of making silk. A.①→④→③→②B.①→③→④→② C.④→①→③→② D.④→③→②→① 4.What does the underlined word “distinctive” mean in paragraph 4? A.Special. B.Public. C.Popular. D.Strong. 5.What does the story of the Silk Road mainly tell us? A.The change of world trade. B.The introduction of silk cloth. C.The influence of technology in history. D.The importance of cross-cultural communication. So far, China has successfully sent a large number of satellites (卫星) and spaceships into space. A.It moves around the moon. B.It protects the Jade Rabbit. C.It “visits” the sun with the scientists. D.It is the world’s first man-made satellite. 3.How does the writer support his opinion in Paragraph 4? A.By listing numbers. B.By comparing facts. C.By giving an example. D.By reporting a result. 4.Which is the right structure of the passage? (①=Paragraph 1            ②=Paragraph 2,…) A. B. C. D. 5.What’s the writer’s main purpose of writing the passage? A.To spread the traditional Chinese culture. B.To explain how our scientists develop the space industry. C.To introduce the achievements in our science and technology. D.To tell how traditional Chinese culture influences our space science. 【热点话题练习】 If you’re traveling to the United States, you need to understand the common way to say hello—a handshake. D.Shaking is helpful for children’s growth. Imagine a car that drives you to school or the park with no one touching the wheel. C.Avoid all traffic accidents. D.Replace human drivers fully. 2.What is the main idea of paragraph 3? A.The good things about these cars. B.The problems to solve in future. C.How the technology developed. D.How sensors and computers work. 3.What is the main structure (结构) of the passage? A.Problems→Reasons→Results. B.Examples→Rules→Warnings. C.Introductions→Development→Advantages and disadvantages. D.Comparison→Experiments→Results. 4.What can we guess about self-driving technology? A.It is already perfect and used everywhere. B.It will soon be cheap for everyone. C.It has solved all traffic problems now. D.It is still being worked on and getting better. 5.What is the writer’s main purpose in writing this? A.To warn about the danger of new technology. B.To talk about today’s traffic accidents. C.To ask people to buy self-driving cars. D.To explain self-driving cars and their progress. Many a conversation in France starts with a complaint (抱怨): The weather is bad; the grape harvest is even worse… When I first moved to France ten years ago, I was puzzled. C.History. D.Culture. People have always been very interested in space, but space can also be dangerous, with big rocks called asteroids (小行星) moving around. C.The sun. D.A football field. 2.Which of the following can be put in “________”? A.China is playing a big role in this effort. B.Many countries have given up researching the asteroid. D.To explore the solar system. 4.What can super computers be used to learn about the asteroid? a. how big it is    b. how it is formed    c. how fast it moves d. how other planets’ gravity pulls it    e. how it looks in shape A.abcd B.bcde C.abde D.acde 5.Which can be the best title for the passage? A.The Discovery of Asteroid 2024YR4 B.China’s Plan to Keep Earth Safe from an Asteroid C.How Scientists Watch Asteroids D.The Amazing Journey to Space In recent years, “silver-haired tourism (旅游业)” has become a hot topic in China. D.Young people like to travel with the elderly. Though oceans cover about 71 percent of the earth’s surface, there’s still a lot we don’t know about them. A.discovering new species B.developing high technology C.exploring the deep sea D.reducing the pressure 4.What is the structure of the passage? A.①/②③④/⑤ B.①/②③④⑤ C.①②③④/⑤ D.①/②/③④⑤ 5.What can be the best title of this passage? A.Hidden Treasures in Deep Sea B.Unlocked Secrets of Deep Sea C.Deep-Sea Exploration: Into the Freezing Depths D.Deep-Sea Exploration: The Past and the Future A smart farmer’s idea about “taking” sugar canes (甘蔗) has recently become very popular in China. This event shows an important rule of modern selling: success often depends not only on the product, but on the special experience around it. The farmer sold more than sugar canes. He sold happiness, fun, and a perfect online moment. 1.What was the farmer’s main reason for asking people to “take” sugar canes? A.To let people enjoy sugar canes for free. B.To try a new way of planting sugar canes. C.To catch people who took his sugar canes. D.To sell his sugar canes in a new and fun way. 2.How did the activity become known and bring more buyers? A.Through TV ads. B.By having the lowest prices around. C.Through visitors sharing their stories online. D.Because a famous star supported it. 3.What was a direct result of this idea for the farmer? A.His field was destroyed and needed fixing. B.He sold all his sugar canes fast and became well-known. C.He chose to stop growing sugar canes. D.It brought him problems. 4.According to the article, why do people like this “game-style” sales way so much? A.Because the sugar cane is a very hard-to-find product. B.Because it provides a fun, experiential, and easy-to-share activity. C.Because it helps everyone save much money. D.Because it is a very serious farming competition. 5.Where would this article most probably be found? A.In a science study paper on farming. B.In a book about Chinese history. C.On a website talking about business and selling. D.In a story book about country life. Taiwan is a beautiful island in the southeast of China. It is often called “Treasure Island” because of its rich natural beauty and warm, friendly people. When you think of Taiwan, think of its amazing nature. There are high green mountains like Ali Mountain where you can see a “sea of clouds” at sunrise. There are also quiet lakes such as Sun Moon Lake, which looks like a piece of bright blue silk under the sky. Taiwan is not just about scenery. It has a deep history and culture that is part of China. Taiwanese food mixes flavors from different parts of China and adds its own special touch. In the night markets, the air is filled with the smell of tasty snacks like sweet bubble tea and spicy stinky tofu. These foods are not just meals. They are a way for people to share happiness and keep their food traditions alive, just like people do in all parts of China. Enjoying these foods helps us understand the warm and welcoming life in Taiwan. However, some people outside China, like in Japan, sometimes tell a different story about Taiwan’s history. They make wrong claims, trying to ignore or change the true facts that Taiwan has always been Chinese land. This is not right and goes against what we know from history. No matter what, one fact remains clear and strong: Taiwan has always been an inseparable (不可分割的) part of China. Its future is tied to the peace and unity of the whole nation. 1.What is the main reason why Taiwan is called “Treasure Island”? A.Because it has many historical buildings. B.Because of its rich natural beauty and friendly people. C.Because it produces expensive products that can’t be found in other parts of China. D.Because it is the largest island in China. 2.According to the article, what do people in Taiwan and the mainland have in common? ①weather   ②festivals   ③language   ④food and snacks   ⑤traditions   ⑥values A.①②③⑥ B.②③④⑥ C.②③⑤⑥ D.①③④⑥ 3.Which sentence could be put into ▲ ? A.The weather in Taiwan is warm and pleasant all year round. B.People in Taiwan are becoming richer in recent years. C.Many tourists from all over the world visit Taiwan every year. D.Food in Taiwan is another wonderful part of its culture. 4.Which of the following isn’t mentioned in the passage? A.Traditional festivals celebrated in Taiwan. B.Popular Taiwanese foods. C.High mountains and lakes in Taiwan. D.Taiwan’s local sports and athletes. 5.What is the writer’s idea about Taiwan? A.Taiwan should develop its own independent culture. B.Taiwan’s future is uncertain and needs discussion. C.There is no doubt that Taiwan is a part of China. D.Whether Taiwan belongs to China depends on international opinions. If you were asked to introduce Lu You, how would you describe him? A.Poet/ singer/ cook/ dog person B.Poet/ teacher/ food lover/ cat person C.Poet/ government worker/ food lover/ cat lover D.Writer/ farmer/ food expert/ cat owner 2.How many of Lu You’s poems are still known today? A.About 500. B.About 1,000. C.About 5,300. D.About 9,300. 3.Why did Lu You get a lower government position? A.He didn’t like his job. B.He had strong ideas about fighting the enemy. C.He wrote too many poems. D.He loved cats too much. 4.What does the underlined word “patriot” mean? A.A person who loves and supports his/ her country. B.A person who loves poetry and writing. C.A person who loves nature and animals. D.A person who is good at cooking and eating. 5.According to the passage, what helped Lu You live a long life? A.Writing many poems. B.Having many cats. C.Eating in a healthy way. D.Being a government worker. Do you consider yourself a creative person? If you answered “Sadly, no”, you needn’t worry! You can learn how to be creative in everyday life. Many people believe that creativity is a special talent that only a few lucky people are born with. But it’s actually a skill that everyone can learn and improve through practice. Some people think, “Creativity is not so important to me since I’m not an artist.” However, it’s connected to everyday activities and influences the way we live, work, and communicate in our relationships. So, what’s in it for you in learning to be creative in everyday life? Creativity is a powerful tool for problem-solving. You can often develop creativity in a cooperative environment, such as in community groups or local clubs. You may feel unskilled or silly at the beginning of your creative efforts. Don’t worry! Everyday creativity is about free self-expression and doesn’t have to be anything perfect, so stay playful and enjoy the process (过程) . A.They will join city walks with a few friends. B.They will often take part in large parties. C.They will try to please everyone around them. D.They will spend much time chatting online with many people. 4.What does the underlined saying mean in the last paragraph? A.“Zero-sugar” socializing is not real friendship. B.Friends should share everything with each other. C.People should stay away from others most of the time. D.“Zero-sugar” socializing balances space and connections. 5.What is the writer’s purpose in writing the text? A.To compare different socializing styles. B.To introduce “zero-sugar” socializing to people. C.To tell people to follow “zero-sugar” socializing. D.To show the disadvantages of traditional socializing.
