Use your own words as far as possible. Ice Cream Innovation Is there anything nicer than a cooling ice cream on a hot summer’s day? This traditional treat is centuries old, but our tastes and consumer habits are evolving. How is the ice cream production process changing, and who is driving this change? Making ice cream is a time-consuming process. While the recipe is simple, getting the balance right between ice, fat and air is important if the ice cream is to have the right texture. To achieve this, the ingredients need to be mixed and heated, then cooled and frozen-a process that takes time and uses a lot of energy. Designers and engineers are working to improve the production process with new specialized equipment to make it increasingly automated. For now, however, even with the help of robots and 3D printers, it can take up to two years from testing a new frozen dessert product to it being available to consumers. And demand is only going up. According to statistics, more than 25 billion litres of ice cream were eaten worldwide in 2021. While the US and China are the biggest consumers, data shows that people in the UK bought 28%more ice cream during the UK’s record-breaking summer compared to a year earlier. Clearly, rising temperatures can explain why some people are buying more ice cream, but it’s not the only explanation. The pandemic has seen people reaching for pleasures they can enjoy at home, which include eating indulgent(纵容的) foods. So, what new things can we expect? Dairy still dominates, but plant-based ice cream and low-calorie choices are a growing part of the frozen dessert market. But, according to Elsebeth Baungaard, the next global trend will be less about innovation and more about portion size “I’m sorry to say it’s simply shrinking”, she says. “But the quality will be higher.” ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Translation Directions: Translate the following sentences into English, using the word given in the brackets. 1. Guided Writing Directions: Write an English composition in 120-150 words according to the instructions given below in Chinese. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 5 / 5 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 写作综训03:概要、翻译、作文套餐练(III) (满分:50分,推荐用时:60分钟) Summary Writing Directions: Read the following passage. Because the production process consumes time and energy, designers are automating it with specialized facilities. Behind this change is the growing global demand due to hotter weather and consumers’ desire for indulgent pleasure. Moreover, with more healthy alternatives, future ice creams will shrink in size but become high in quality. 要点摘录 ①This traditional treat is centuries old, but our tastes and consumer habits are evolving. ②Making ice cream is a time-consuming process. Designers and engineers are working to improve the production process with new specialized equipment to make it increasingly automated. ③Clearly, rising temperatures can explain why some people are buying more ice cream, but it’s not the only explanation. The pandemic has seen people reaching for pleasures they can enjoy at home, which include eating indulgent(纵容的) foods. ④Dairy still dominates, but plant-based ice cream and low-calorie choices are a growing part of the frozen dessert market. But, according to Elsebeth Baungaard, the next global trend will be less about innovation and more about portion size “I’m sorry to say it’s simply shrinking”, she says. “But the quality will be higher.” 2. The ice cream industry is transforming. Since the production process consumes time and energy, designers are automating it with specialized facilities. Behind this change is the growing global demand thanks to hotter weather and consumers’ desire for indulgent enjoyment. Besides, with more fit choices, future ice creams will shrink in size but become high in quality. 【点睛】[高分句型1] Because the production process consumes time and energy, designers are automating it with specialized facilities. [高分句型2] Behind this change is the growing global demand due to hotter weather and consumers’ desire for indulgent pleasure. Translation Directions: Translate the following sentences into English, using the word given in the brackets. 1. The elderly shouldn’t drink strong tea at night in case they can’t fall asleep. 表示“老年人晚上不要喝浓茶”:用情态动词否定形式shouldn’t drink strong tea at night,“老年人”对应the elderly作主语;表示“以免睡不着”:用连词in case引导目的状语从句,“睡不着”译为can’t fall asleep,作in case的从句内容。 The elderly shouldn’t drink strong tea at night in case they can’t fall asleep. 2. The century-old opera stage, whose past/ former glory is faintly visible, retains/ keeps its original charm/ glamour. The century-old opera stage, whose past/ former glory is faintly visible, retains/ keeps its original charm/ glamour. 3. I never expected that a single remark from him would carry so much weight that the entire plan was torn down and rebuilt. “他的一句话分量居然那么重”是宾语从句,“他的一句话”用a single remark from him表示,“分量重”用carry weight表示,“那么重”可译为carry so much weight,该部分翻译成a single remark from him would carry so much weight;“致使整个计划全部推倒重来”是结果状语从句,用so...that...结构表示,“整个计划”用the entire plan表示,“推倒重来”用tear down and rebuild表示,计划是“被推倒重来”,要用被动语态,该部分翻译成the entire plan was torn down and rebuilt。 I never expected that a single remark from him would carry so much weight that the entire plan was torn down and rebuilt. 4. A formal Western dinner usually consists of an appetizer, soup, a main course and a dessert, and although each dish is served in moderate portion, enjoying each course one by one brings a sense of fullness/satisfaction ultimately. A formal Western dinner usually consists of an appetizer, soup, a main course and a dessert, and although each dish is served in moderate portion, enjoying each course one by one brings a sense of fullness/satisfaction ultimately. Guided Writing Directions: Write an English composition in 120-150 words according to the instructions given below in Chinese. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】Dear Editor, I’m Li Ming, a Senior 3 student from Mingqi High School. Having read your article about creativity, I totally agree that abundant free time fuels people’s creative thinking. Firstly, free time frees our minds from academic or work pressure. When we’re not rushed to meet tight deadlines or tackle urgent tasks, we can wander through random thoughts and connect unrelated ideas, which is the key to innovation. Secondly, spare moments allow us to explore diverse hobbies like painting, writing or DIY crafts, where creativity naturally blooms. For example, many great inventions were born when scientists relaxed and let their minds wander after long hours of tiring research. Free time isn’t a meaningless waste but a precious breeding ground for creativity. Having read your article about creativity, I totally agree that abundant free time fuels people’s creative thinking. After I read your article about creativity, I totally agree that abundant free time fuels people’s creative thinking. 1】When we’re not rushed to meet tight deadlines or tackle urgent tasks, we can wander through random thoughts and connect unrelated ideas, which is the key to innovation. 2】Secondly, spare moments allow us to explore diverse hobbies like painting, writing or DIY crafts, where creativity naturally blooms.(运用了where引导的非限制性定语从句) 5 / 5 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
