Scientists may finally have an answer, thanks to a new study on ancient human remains found in Alaska. The research suggests that the strong bond between humans and the ancestors of today’s dogs began 12,000 years ago. “We now have proof that dogs and humans had close connections earlier than we thought in the Americas,” said the study’s lead author, Francois Laneo, an assistant researcher at the University of Arizona’s School of Anthropology. “People interested in the origins of the Americans want to know if the first humans arrived with dogs. Until we find these animals in old digging sites, we can only guess — it’s hard to confirm. This discovery is very significant.” In a 2018 archaeological study, the same team found a lower leg bone from an adult dog like animal at a site in Alaska. Carbon dating showed the animal lived 12,000 years ago, near the end of the Ice Age. More recently, in June 2023, the team dug up an 8,100-year-old jawbone from a similar animal at a nearby site. For the new study, scientists performed chemical tests on these bones. They found salmon proteins, suggesting these animals ate fish regularly. This was unusual because dog- like animals at the time only hunted land animals, showing human influence. While the team believes this is the earliest known relationship between humans and dogs, they say it’s too soon to be certain. A key question remains: “What defines a dog?” said Dr. Ben Pot, a co- author of the study and an archaeologist at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. Though these creatures acted and looked like dogs, they might be too ancient to be genetically connected to modern dogs we know today. 4. What is the main idea of the passage? A. Humans and dogs developed a close bond 12,000 years ago. B. Scientists discovered the oldest human remains in America. C. Ancient dogs survived the Ice Age by eating fish. D. A new study proves dogs originated in Alaska. 5. What can we infer about the significance of the discovery? A. It shows early human- dog friendship. B. It proves dogs came before humans. C. It changes ice Age theories. D. It explains dog DNA fully. 6. How was the age of the bone determined in the 2018 study? A. Genetic testing. B. Protein analysis. C. Carbon dating. D. Site comparison. 7. Why is the team uncertain about the earliest human-dog relationship? A. Weak DNA link. B. Not sure what is a “dog”. C. Few bone samples. D. unclear fish protein results. A 5. A 6. C 7. 根据第一段“The research suggests that the strong bond between humans and the ancestors of today’s dogs began 12,000 years ago.(研究表明,人类和今天狗的祖先之间的紧密联系始于12000年前)”结合文章主要说明了科学家通过一项针对阿拉斯加古人类遗骸的新研究,揭示了人类与狗之间深厚关系的起源时间。 故选A。 根据第三段“People interested in the origins of the Americans want to know if the first humans arrived with dogs. Until we find these animals in old digging sites, we can only guess — it’s hard to confirm. This discovery is very significant.(对于美洲原住民起源感兴趣的人们想知道,最初的人类是否是带着狗一同抵达这里的。在我们能在古老的挖掘地点找到这些动物之前,我们只能进行猜测——这很难得到证实。这一发现意义重大)”可知,这一发现表明了早期人类与狗之间的友好关系。故选A。 根据倒数第三段“In a 2018 archaeological study, the same team found a lower leg bone from an adult dog like animal at a site in Alaska. Carbon dating showed the animal lived 12,000 years ago, near the end of the Ice Age.(在2018年的一次考古研究中,同一研究团队在阿拉斯加的一个遗址中发现了一块类似成年犬类的下肢骨骼。碳年代测定显示,该动物生活在12000年前,处于冰河时代末期)”可知,在2018年的研究中,骨头的年龄是通过碳年代测定法确定的。故选C。 【7题详解】 细节理解题。根据最后一段“A key question remains: “What defines a dog?” said Dr. Ben Pot, a co- author of the study and an archaeologist at the University of Alaska Fairbanks.(一个关键问题依然存在:“究竟什么才能定义一只狗?”该研究的合著者、阿拉斯加费尔班克斯大学的考古学家本·波特博士说道)”可知,这个团队对于人类与狗之间最早的关系存在的疑问是对狗的定义,即,不清楚什么是“狗”。故选B。 C Bat habitats (栖息地) are damaged by human activities despite their contribution to our environment. To ensure that we can study and improve the health of our bat population, we need to locate their habitats. But finding their habitats seems like a tall order. They are small and fast and primarily fly at night. Our new research combines our previous mathematical model of bat movement with data gathered from sound recorders known as “bat detectors”. They are placed around the environment and left there for several nights. Bats are able to “see with sound” when they’re flying. If the sounds are made within 10 to 15 meters of a bat detector, the device is started to make a recording, providing a proper record of where and when a bat is present. The sound recordings also provide information about the species of bat. Greater horseshoe bats make a very unique call at exactly 82 kHz, so we can easily tell whether the species is present or not. Our model can also be used to predict the frequency (预测频率) of bat calls based on a given habitat location. So, we divided the environment into grids (网格). The squares whose recorders best collect the bat data will then be the most likely locations of the habitats. This simple method can be applied to whole landforms. Cutting out the regions that are least likely to have the habitats can mean we reduce the search space to less than 1% of the firstly surveyed area, simplifying the process of finding bat habitats frees researchers to focus on safeguarding these areas, rather than struggling to find them. In 2022, we developed an app that uses publicly sourced data to predict bat flight lines. At the moment, the app can help researchers, developers or local authority planners know how the environment is used by bats. However, it needs the habitat location to be provided first, and this information is not always known. Our new research removes this difficulty, making the app easier to use. 8. What does the underlined phrase in paragraph 1 imply about locating a bat habitat? A. It attracts a lot of interest. B. It is an extremely difficult task. C. It has shown impressive progress. D. It often leads to unexpected discoveries. 9. Why is the greater horseshoe bat mentioned in the text? A. To prove the exactness of sound recognition. B. To introduce the species’ survival skills. C To explain bats’ movement in darkness. D. To discuss bats’ habitat preferences. 10. What effect does the grid-based method in the new model primarily achieve? A. It helps count bats in different areas. B. It controls the sound frequency of bat calls. C. It reduces the influence of human activities. D. It enables proper judgment of possible habitats. 11. What limitation of the 2022 app does the new research deal with? A. Inability to tell apart bat species. B. Difficulty in guiding bats’ flight. C. Dependence on pre-known habitat details. D. Unsuitability for certain environmental conditions. B 9. A 10. D 11. 根据第一段中“But finding their habitats seems like a tall order. They are small and fast and primarily fly at night.(但是找到它们的栖息地似乎是a tall order。它们体型小、速度快,而且主要在夜间飞行)”可知,划线短语所在句表示“但是找到它们的栖息地似乎是一项艰巨的任务”,即找到蝙蝠的栖息地是一项极其困难的任务。故选B。 【9题详解】 推理判断题。根据第三段中“The sound recordings also provide information about the species of bat. Greater horseshoe bats make a very unique call at exactly 82 kHz, so we can easily tell whether the species is present or not.(声音记录还提供了蝙蝠种类的信息。大蹄鼻蝠会发出非常独特的叫声,频率正好是82千赫,所以我们可以很容易地判断这个物种是否存在)”可知,文中提到大蹄鼻蝠是为了证明声音识别的准确性。故选A。 根据第四段中“Our model can also be used to predict the frequency (预测频率) of bat calls based on a given habitat location. So, we divided the environment into grids (网格). The squares whose recorders best collect the bat data will then be the most likely locations of the habitats.(我们的模型还可以根据给定的栖息地位置预测蝙蝠叫声的频率。因此,我们将环境划分为网格。记录器最能收集蝙蝠数据的方块将是栖息地最有可能的位置)”可知,新模型中基于网格的方法主要实现的效果是它能够对可能的栖息地做出正确的判断。故选D。 【11题详解】 细节理解题。根据最后一段中“At the moment, the app can help researchers, developers or local authority planners know how the environment is used by bats. However, it needs the habitat location to be provide first, and this information is not always known. Our new research removes this difficulty, making the app easier to use.(目前,这款应用可以帮助研究人员、开发人员或地方当局规划者了解蝙蝠如何利用环境。然而,它需要首先提供栖息地的位置,而这一信息并不总是已知的。我们的新研究消除了这一困难,使该应用程序更容易使用)”可知,新研究解决了2022年应用程序依赖预先已知的栖息地细节的局限性。故选C。 D “It’s alive,” I say, mostly to myself, but also to my sister, Kirsten, who stands behind me. My arms are wrapped around The Elephant, an olive tree which is said to be more than 3,000 years old - one of the oldest in Puglia, Italy. I couldn’t be happier. Kirsten puts her hand on my shoulder and I turn, wiping away tears, and laugh. This isn’t the first time I’ve seen The Elephant up close. My sister, my mom and I came to Masseria Brancati, the small family farm that’s home to this tree and hundreds of other olive trees, seven years ago. Kirsten and I have returned now, at my request, to learn how the trees have been , which in the past few years have been faced with a disease, X fastidiosa. I became aware of the poor conditions of Puglia’s olive trees in the summer of 2018; the news came at a hard time for our family. After we returned from our first visit, we were surprised to learn Mom had a stress fracture (应力性骨折) in her foot. As a result, she was finally wheel-chaired. In the fall of 2017, she was diagnosed (确诊) with a rare disease called progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP). Like X. fastidiosa, it’s a killer that has no known cure Now, the good news is that olive trees have hope. Certain varieties are lucky dogs, proving healthy even when exposed to X. fastidiosa. Scientists are grafting (嫁接) branches from these trees to the remaining uninfected (未受感染的) ones. The hope is that they can mix and prevent the further spread of death. My family has hope, too. The U. S. National Institutes of Health recently provided a major fund to conduct research on PSP. Before Kirsten and I leave Masseria Brancati, we return to The Elephant to say goodbye. I reach up and gently touch The Elephant one last time. I silently beg. All we can do is hope - if not for forever living, then at least for future generations who will be able to continue the traditions established in the past. 12. Why did the author visit The Elephant seven years later? A. To help her mother find the cure. B. To test a treatment on it. C. To recall her old memories. D. To check its health conditions. 13. What happened to Mom after the author’s first visit to Puglia? A. She was diagnosed with X. fastidiosa. B. She gave up traveling abroad. C. She fell from her wheelchair, D. She suffered from a killer disease. 14. Why does the author call certain trees “lucky dogs” in paragraph 4? A. They could still stay well-off despite exposure to X. fastidiosa. B. They kept alive healthily with the grafted branches. C. They’ve been saved thanks to scientists’ efforts. D. They’ve prevented further spread of tree death. 15. What message does the author most want to give us? A. We should keep hopeful when life is down. B. We should protect wildlife in the right ways. C. We should carry on ancient traditions. D. We should stay with family when there is time. D 13. D 14. A 15. 根据第二段“Kirsten and I have returned now, at my request, to learn how the trees have been, which in the past few years have been faced with a disease, X fastidiosa. (在我的要求下,Kirsten和我现在又回来了,我们想了解一下这些树的状况,因为它们在过去几年里一直面临着一种疾病,即X fastidiosa。)”可知,作者七年后再次去看那棵“大象”橄榄树是为了检查它的健康状况。故选D。 【13题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段“In the fall of 2017, she was diagnosed with a rare disease called progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP). Like X. fastidiosa, it’s a killer that has no known cure. (2017年秋天,她被诊断出患有一种罕见的疾病,叫做进行性核上性麻痹(PSP)。和X. fastidiosa一样,它是一种致命的疾病,目前没有已知的治疗方法。)”可知,作者第一次去普格里亚后,妈妈患上了一种致命的疾病。故选D。 【14题详解】 推理判断题。根据第四段“Certain varieties are lucky dogs, proving healthy even when exposed to X. fastidiosa. (某些品种是幸运儿,即使暴露在X. fastidiosa下也能保持健康。)”可知,作者称某些树为“幸运儿”是因为尽管暴露在X fastidiosa下,它们仍然能保持健康。故选A。 根据最后一段“All we can do is hope - if not for forever living, then at least for future generations who will be able to continue the traditions established in the past. (我们所能做的就是希望——如果不是为了永远的生活,那么至少是为了未来的几代人,他们将能够继续过去建立的传统。)”可知,作者最想给我们传达的信息是当生活陷入低谷时,我们应该保持希望。故选A。 Generally, most of us rely on forecasts (预报) to tell us what kind of weather to expect. ____16____ Not only can predicting (预测) the weather be a fun hobby, it can also be a useful skill if you enjoy outdoor activities, such as hiking or camping. By learning what to look for, you can predict the weather without a forecast or technological device. Determine the direction of the wind. Wind direction helps determine upcoming weather. Since weather moves in from the west, westerly winds indicate good weather because they suggest the bad weather is already to your east. Easterly winds suggest that the bad weather is coming toward you. You can use grass or leaves to determine the direction of the wind.____17____ Watch smoke from a fire. The air pressure determines what direction the smoke will go. In high pressure, the smoke will go directly up into the air. ____18____ When smoke circles downwards, it means that bad weather is very close. ____19____ Before a storm, the low-pressure system can push out the area’s normal wind patterns. This creates a temporary calm before the storm begins. You’ll notice a lack of wind, which creates stillness over the area. If you’re near water, it will be calm and still, as well. This calm indicates a coming storm. Check for humidity (湿度). High humidity often comes before a storm, so watch for signs of high humidity, such as frizzy hair, curling leaves, and swollen wood. ____20____ if you live in an area that always has high humidity, rely on other observations to predict the weather. A. Watch for calm conditions. B. Keep an eye out for low pressure. C. These signs can tell you that a storm is on the way. D. If the pressure is low, it will circle back down around the fire. E. Current weather forecasts can predict the weather for more than 30 days. F. Throw your grass or leaves into the wind and watch the way that it blows or falls. G. However, it is possible to predict the weather using your skills of observation and knowledge. G 17. F 18. D 19. A 20. 【16题详解】 根据上文“Generally, most of us rely on forecasts to tell us what kind of weather to expect. (通常,我们大多数人依靠预报来了解预期的天气。)”以及下文“Not only can predicting (预测) the weather be a fun hobby, it can also be a useful skill if you enjoy outdoor activities, such as hiking or camping. By learning what to look for, you can predict the weather without a forecast or technological device. (预测天气不仅是一种有趣的爱好,如果你喜欢徒步旅行或露营等户外活动,它也会成为一项实用技能。通过学习观察迹象,你无需天气预报或技术设备就能预测天气。)”可知,此空应引出不依赖预报的天气预测方法。G选项“However, it is possible to predict the weather using your skills of observation and knowledge.”(然而,利用观察技能和知识来预测天气是可能的。) 【17题详解】 根据上文“You can use grass or leaves to determine the direction of the wind. (可以用草或树叶确定风向。)”可知,此空应说明用草或树叶确定风向的具体操作。F选项“Throw your grass or leaves into the wind and watch the way that it blows or falls. (将草或树叶抛向风中,观察其飘动或落下的方式。)”是对上文的具体实施步骤的介绍,符合语境。故选F项。 【18题详解】 根据上文“In high pressure, the smoke will go directly up into the air. (在高压下,烟会直接升向空中。)”以及下文“When smoke circles downwards, it means that bad weather is very close. (当烟向下盘旋时,意味着恶劣天气即将来临。)”可知,此空应说明低压下烟的走向。D选项“If the pressure is low, it will circle back down around the fire. (如果压力低,烟会绕着火堆向下盘旋。)”中的“If the pressure is low”与上文“In high pressure”形成对比,“circle back down around the fire”对应下文“smoke circles downwards”,符合语境。 根据空后的“Before a storm, the low-pressure system can push out the area’s normal wind patterns. This creates a temporary calm before the storm begins. You’ll notice a lack of wind, which creates stillness over the area. If you’re near water, it will be calm and still, as well. This calm indicates a coming storm. (暴风雨来临前,低压系统会改变该地区的正常风向模式,在风暴开始前形成短暂的平静。你会注意到没有风,整个区域一片寂静。如果你在水边,水面也会平静无波。这种平静预示着暴风雨即将来临。)”可知,本段讲述通过观察平静状况预测天气。A选项“Watch for calm conditions. (留意平静的状况。)”中的“calm conditions”概括了下文“temporary calm”和“calm and still”,适合作本段小标题。故选A项。 【20题详解】 根据上文“High humidity often comes before a storm, so watch for signs of high humidity, such as frizzy hair, curling leaves, and swollen wood. (高湿度通常出现在暴风雨前,因此要留意高湿度的迹象,如头发卷曲、树叶卷曲和木材膨胀。)”可知,此空应总结这些迹象与暴风雨的关系。C选项“These signs can tell you that a storm is on the way. (这些迹象可以告诉你暴风雨即将来临。)”中的“These signs”指代上文“frizzy hair, curling leaves, and swollen wood”,“a storm is on the way”呼应“High humidity often comes before a storm”,符合语境。 One summer afternoon, after running around for hours, my three-year-old daughter Heidi felt extremely tired. Mr. Roberts had divided the class into groups to do presentations. Today had been Niesha’s turn. However, her hands had shaken so badly that she couldn’t read her notes. Her voice had become softer even to silence. Mr. Roberts had kindly ended Niesha’s part of the presentation even though she had clearly not finished. He had also asked Niesha to stay after class for a moment. “Niesha, I know you’re shy, but you worked hard on this project. I’d hate to see you give up on yourself.” Mr. Roberts had hesitated, “If I give you another chance until tomorrow, do you think you can find your courage?” Niesha had nodded, grateful for the chance. She had gone as quickly as she could to her next class. She had kept her head down and hoped the school day would end soon. When she reached her back steps that afternoon, she could see an inviting light coming from the kitchen windows. Momma was baking. Momma studied Niesha’s face as she came into the kitchen. “What’s wrong, Niesha?” Tears shone in Niesha’s brown eyes. She told her the whole story. Momma was silent for a moment, her hands still busy with the cake. “Why is it that you can talk to me about anything and everything, but you can’t talk to your class?” Momma asked. She set the timer and then said, “Let me show something.” Niesha followed Momma to her bedroom. There Momma showed her a book filled with newspaper clippings(剪报)and pictures. In it there was a blue ribbon that said “First Place” and a picture of herself when she was very young, standing with her parents. “I won it for public speaking. I started the school year as the shyest girl on the speech team, but I ended the year as the blue ribbon winner. It wasn’t easy at first-not sure of yourself at all, I worked hard, and mostly I faced my fears. You just need to find your courage.” Hearing Momma’s words, Niesha stared at the precious blue ribbon, lost in thought. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】Hearing Momma’s words, Niesha stared at the precious blue ribbon, lost in thought. “This ribbon actually has magic power, and it’ll pass my courage on to you.” Momma continued, tying the blue ribbon to Niesha’s wrist. Running her fingers across the ribbon, Niesha seemed to feel the courage and devoted herself to practicing. Finally, the important moment came. Just before Niesha were ready to do the presentation, shyness, nervousness and fear seized her, leaving her hands sweating and throat tightening. Lowering her head, Niesha fixed her eyes upon the blue ribbon on her wrist. Suddenly, courage seemed to have found its way back. With head held high, Niesha started her speech, loud and confident, knowing that she would make it! 传递:pass on/deliver/convey ②.投入:devote/commit 情绪类 ①.紧张:nervousness/anxiety ②.恐惧:fear/terror 【点睛】[高分句型1].Running her fingers across the ribbon, Niesha seemed to feel the courage and devoted herself to practicing. (由现在分词作状语) [高分句型2].Just before Niesha were ready to do the presentation, shyness, nervousness and fear seized her, leaving her hands sweating and throat tightening.(由before引导的时间状语从句和现在分词作状语) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 黄梅县育才高级中学2026年1月月考 高一英语试题 注意事项: 1. 1.What does the man suggest the woman do? B Dogs have been close four-legged friends of humans for as long as we can remember, but exactly how long has this relationship lasted? C Bat habitats (栖息地) are damaged by human activities despite their contribution to our environment. In 2022 we developed an app that uses publicly sourced data to predict bat flight lines. C. To explain bats’ movement in darkness. D. To discuss bats’ habitat preferences. 10. What effect does the grid-based method in the new model primarily achieve? A It helps count bats in different areas. D “It’s alive” I say, mostly to myself, but also to my sister, Kirsten, who stands behind me. D To check its health conditions. 15 What message does the author most want to give us? A. We should keep hopeful when life is down. B. We should protect wildlife in the right ways. C. We should carry on ancient traditions. D. We should stay with family when there is time. Generally, most of us rely on forecasts (预报) to tell us what kind of weather to expect. ____16____ Not only can predicting (预测) the weather be a fun hobby, it can also be a useful skill if you enjoy outdoor activities, such as hiking or camping. One summer afternoon, after running around for hours, my three-year-old daughter Heidi felt extremely tired. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
