Giving a presentation is a great way to share your ideas and improve your confidence. Here are some dos and don'ts for a successful presentation.
DOs:
Know your audience. Tailor your language and examples to suit them.
Start strong. Begin with a question, a surprising fact, or a short story to grab attention.
Structure your talk. Have a clear beginning, middle, and end. Summarize your main points at the end.
Use visual aids wisely. Pictures, charts, or short videos can help explain your ideas, but don't let them distract from your speech.
Practise out loud. This helps you with timing and makes you more familiar with your content.
DON'Ts:
Don't read from your notes all the time. Look up and make eye contact with your audience.
Don't speak too fast. Nervous people often speak quickly. Remember to pause and breathe.
Don't use too much text on slides. Slides should have key words, not full paragraphs.
Don't go over your time limit. Respect your audience's time.
Don't be afraid of questions. They show people are interested. If you don't know an answer, it's okay to say you'll find out later.
The most important thing is to be prepared and be yourself.
根据短文内容,判断正(T)误(F)。
( ) 1. You should use the same presentation for all audiences.
( ) 2. Starting with a question is a good way to get attention.
( ) 3. You should put all your speech text on the slides.

A Student's Presentation Experience
Last Friday, our English class had a presentation show. The theme was
"Making a Difference". I was very nervous because I had never given a presentation in English before.
My topic was about reducing plastic waste at school. I made a simple PowerPoint with photos of plastic pollution and clean beaches. I wrote down my key points on cards but tried not to read them word for word.
When it was my turn, my heart was beating very fast. I took a deep breath and started. I said, "Have you ever thought about how much plastic we use at school every day?" I saw some classmates nod. That made me feel a bit better. I showed my pictures and talked about simple things we could do, like using a reusable water bottle and bringing lunch in a lunch box instead of plastic bags.
I forgot a small part in the middle, but I just took a quick look at my card and went on. I finished by asking everyone to make one small change. After I finished, my teacher said "Well done!" and my classmates clapped. Some even asked me questions about where to buy good lunch boxes.
The experience taught me that being well-prepared is the best way to fight nervousness. It also felt good to share an idea I care about. I might still get nervous next time, but I know I can do it.
