Do you have good friends? Do you sometimes feel so close to them that they are like family to you?
This isn’t just an expression. A study from the University of California has found that you and your friends have more genes (基因) in common than strangers do. Researchers looked at the genes of 1,932 people and compared unrelated friends’ genes and unrelated strangers’ genes. They found that friends have about 1% of genes that match. This is the same amount of genes you share with your fourth cousins, those who have the same great-great-great grandparents as you.
So do you happen to become friends with people who share your genes? Not at all. In fact, it is evolution (进化) that brings you together.
“People who share certain genes also share skills and have similar likes and dislikes,” researchers said. In ancient times, it was important that people who were alike stayed together. For example, people who were more easily affected by the cold were more likely to help each other build a fire to stay alive.
Researchers also found that smell-related genes were most similar in friends. This is probably because people with similar senses of smell are more easily attracted to similar environments. For example, people who like the smell of coffee may visit cafés more often and as a result are more likely to meet and become friends with each other.
With these findings, the team has developed an interesting test called the “friendship score”. It can help show the chances of two people being friends. So, here is a question for you: Would you like to take this test and know early who your friends are going to be, or would you still prefer to learn about it by yourself and let time be the judge?
24. What can we know about our friends from the first two paragraphs?
A. They live close to our family. B. They look like our fourth cousins.
C. They never make friends with strangers. D. They share about 1% of genes with us.
25. Why do people with similar smell-related genes become friends more easily?
A. They avoid the crowded areas. B. They have better sense of smell.
C. They prefer different environments. D. They are attracted to similar places.
26. What is the “friendship score”?
A. A method to teach how to make friends. B. A tool to tell if two people can be friends.
C. A survey to know about friends’ hobbies. D. A game to check how close the friends are.

On August 7, 2025, OpenAI introduced GPT-5, a major update for ChatGPT that brings faster responses (反应), more accurate (准确的) answers, and better problem-solving skills than older versions. This advancement has made the competition in the AI field even stronger, but it has also sparked discussions about how AI might affect people's mental well-being and job opportunities in the future.
Available to all ChatGPT users at no cost, GPT-5 shows improvements in writing, programming, and answering health questions. Most importantly, it makes 45% fewer factual mistakes than GPT-4 and clearly tells users when it doesn’t know something, instead of making up answers.
OpenAI’s leader Sam Altman praised GPT-5 as a big step toward AI that thinks like humans. He explained, “While GPT-4 was like talking to a college student, GPT-5 feels like getting advice from a top expert in many fields.” With 700 million people using it every week, OpenAI stays ahead despite new competitors.
One exciting new feature is “prompt-based programming,” which lets users create working software just by giving simple instructions. During a test, GPT-5 built a website with fun games to help people learn French in only a few minutes, proving how useful it could be for programmers.
However, concerns (担忧) remain about jobs being replaced by AI. Some tech leaders say AI now handles (处理) more than 40% of basic coding work. Others worry about people relying (依赖) too much on AI, sharing a story where a man’s constant use of AI hurt his family relationships.
As GPT-5 becomes more common in schools and offices, it shows both the amazing possibilities and the social challenges that come with advanced AI technology.
27. What is one key improvement of GPT-5?
A. It can speak 10 new languages. B. It has 45% fewer factual errors.
C. It is free for only premium users. D. It runs on solar power.
28. Which of the following statements is not right?
A. Sam Altman thinks GPT-5 is as good as a top expert.
B. When GPT-5 doesn’t know something, it won't create an answer.
C. The competition in the AI field becomes stronger because of GPT-5.
D. Prompt-based programming will make traditional programmers unnecessary.
29. This passage can be divided into several parts. Which one is the most reasonable (合理的)?
A. ①/②③/④⑤/⑥ B. ①②/③④/⑤⑥
C. ①/②/③④/⑤⑥ D. ①②③/④⑤/⑥
30. What is the main purpose of the article?
A. To advertise GPT-5 as the best AI ever.
B. To warn against using AI at all.
C. To report GPT-5’s upgrades and effects on society.
D. To compare GPT-5 with other companies’ products.

七、任务型阅读(每题1分,共计10分)
阅读下面的短文,并根据所读内容,在文章后表格中的空格里填入一个最恰当的单词。
Do you know the “Five-Hour Rule”? This rule can date back to Benjamin Franklin, one of America’s greatest inventors and leaders. However busy he was, he spared at least one hour every weekday to learn and improve himself. This is called the “Five- Hour Rule”—one hour a day on every weekday.
How can you use the five-hour rule in daily life? Here are practical ways to make learning part of life.
● Set learning goals
Instead of just making to-do lists (“finish homework”, “clean my room”), also make “learning lists”. For example, “This week I’ll memorize 20 new English words”, “I’ll practise giving talks to improve my speaking skills”.
● Reflect on (反思) what you’ve learned
Learning isn’t just collecting information—you need to have a better understanding of it. Try these methods to reflect on what you’ve learned. Keep a learning note to write down new ideas. Discuss what you learned with friends or family. Take short walks to think about new ideas.
● Manage learning time well
Make learning a regular habit by reading for 30 minutes every morning, watching educational videos during meals, using spare moments like bus rides to have a revision (复习).
● Solve problems as early as you can
When you notice small problems in your work or studies, pay much attention to them on purpose. If you keep making the same math mistake, try to practise the same type until you master it completely. When you don’t understand a word in reading, look it up immediately.
Benjamin Franklin wasn’t a born genius (天才)—he became one through daily learning. Remember that successful people aren’t those who work the most, but those who learn the most.
The Five-Hour Rule
____51____
Benjamin Franklin, an American ____52____ and leader, first proposed (提出) the five-hour rule. No matter how busy he was, he spent at least one hour every weekday learning and making himself ____53____.

Make full use of time to do things ____57____ reading, watching educational videos, or going over what you’ve learned.
● Solve problems as early as ____58____
If you find small problems, work them out at once instead of leaving them ____59____.
Conclusion
______60______ doesn’t belong to the hardest workers, but to the most learned.

【答案】例文
After learning about the “Five-Hour Rule”, I’m truly inspired by Benjamin Franklin’s wisdom. His words teach us that active involvement is the key to real learning.
In the “Five-Hour Rule”, setting learning goals helped me a lot. Last term, my English vocabulary was poor. Instead of aimlessly reciting words, I set a clear goal: memorize 15 new words every weekday. I wrote them down in a notebook and reviewed them every morning. Gradually, I could understand more passages in reading and use more words in writing.
I also want to try “reflecting on what I’ve learned”. Spending 10 minutes each day reviewing what I’ve learned will help me avoid mistakes and build a clearer knowledge system.
Active learning turns lessons into progress, and that’s what Franklin’s wisdom is all about.
