Lian Po was a brave general. He fought many battles and helped Zhao State win. Lin Xiangru was a smart official. Once, Lin did a very important thing for Zhao State. The king gave him a higher title (头衔) than Lian Po. Lian Po felt angry. He said he would make Lin feel embarrassed (尴尬的).
But Lin didn’t fight back. Instead, he tried to avoid Lian Po. Lin’s servants (仆人) didn’t understand. Lin told them, “If we fight, Qin State will hurt Zhao State. I care more about Zhao State’s safety than my own pride.” When Lian Po heard this, he felt very sorry. He took off his shirt, carried a stick on his back, and went to Lin’s home to say sorry. “I was so selfish. Please punish me,” he said. Lin quickly helped him stand up. “You care about our country too. We should work together,” he said.

How do you turn on your bedroom lights? First, your brain decides to do it. Then, you use your arms, hands, and other body parts to do the action. Finally, the lights turn on. But in the future, things may be different. We’ll have BCI—short for brain-computer interface (脑机接口). With this technology, a computer can understand that you want to turn on the lights and control the lights directly for you.
How does BCI know your thoughts? Your brain is made of billions of tiny cells (细胞). These cells “talk” to each other with special signals. When these signals move around, information travels fast between your brain and the rest of your body. The earliest BCI systems helped people with locked-in syndrome (闭锁综合征). These people can’t control their muscles (肌肉) anymore, so they can’t move or speak, and may only be able to blink or move their eyes.
In recent years, BCI has helped more people. Now it’s used to drive wheelchairs (轮椅), control prosthetic limbs (义肢), and even make playing games more fun. In the coming years, BCI may become part of our daily life. Want to turn on the bedroom lights? Soon, you might just need to think about it!
28. Who did the earliest BCI systems help?
A. People who need new tiny cells. B. People who have locked-in syndrome.
C. People who can’t drive their own cars. D. People who like playing computer games.
29. What can BCI help control now?
A. Muscles in the body. B. Bedroom lights only.
C. Computers and phones. D. Wheelchairs and prosthetic limbs.
30. What can we guess about BCI in the future?
A. It will disappear soon. B. It will be more useful in daily life.
C. It will only help the disabled people. D. It will replace computers completely.
31. In which part of the newspaper can you probably find this text?
A. Science. B. Travel. C. Sports. D. Music.
D
For hundreds of years, people thought humans were above nature, not part of it. They believed only humans could make and use tools, and only humans could speak and communicate meaningfully. That changed when Jane Goodall came.
In 1957, 23-year-old Goodall knew a lot about animals and wanted to work with them. Three years later, with anthropologist (人类学家) Louis Leakey’s help, she went to Africa’s Gombe forest. There, she watched chimps (黑猩猩) closely and named them instead of using numbers—no researcher had done that before.
Soon, Goodall saw surprising things. A male chimp named David Greybeard broke a dry stick to get insects. Other chimps used tools too. She also found they had a good communication system and different personalities—some kind, some tough.
These discoveries made people rethink being human and drew other scientists to study apes (猩猩). Later, Goodall left Gombe to protect chimps, because forests were cut and apes were hunted. She traveled to share her experiences. In 1991, she started Roots & Shoots, a program now in over 60 countries. It has inspired millions of students to make the world better for all.
Goodall is gone, but her voice still guides us to care for nature.
32. What can we learn about Jane Goodall’s work in Gombe forest?
A She went to the forest alone in 1957.
B. She only studied chimps’ personalities.
C. She was the first to use numbers to call chimps.
D. She found that chimps could use tools to get food.
33. Why did Jane Goodall leave the Gombe forest?
A. She wanted to protect chimps and their homes.
B. The chimps were becoming too dangerous to study.
C. She wanted to study other animals in different places.
D. Louis Leakey asked her to help him with a new project.
34. Which of the following is the right order of Jane Goodall’s events?
①She went to Africa’s Gombe forest.
②She started the Roots & Shoots program.
③She knew a lot about animals and wanted to work with them.
④She left Gombe to protect chimps.
A. ①→③→④→② B. ③→①→④→② C. ①→④→③→② D. ③→④→①→②
35. What’s the best title for this passage?
A. How to Study Chimps in Gombe forest. B. Why Chimps Can Use Tools Like Humans.
C. The History of the Roots & Shoots Program. D. Jane Goodall: Changing Our Views on Nature.

Dan Dan Noodles are a kind of traditional food from Sichuan. In different places, it may have similar types, but the Sichuan one is the most famous. It gets its name because long ago, some people took the noodles on a stick (“dan dan” in Chinese) to sell on the street.
Why are Dan Dan Noodles so popular? There are two main reasons. First, they taste delicious—spicy and full of flavor. Second, they are cheap. Everyone can enjoy this wonderful dish.
Dan Dan Noodles, made with thin noodles, are different from other noodles because of their special sauce (酱). Do you want to know how to make them? It’s quite easy.
A. Science. B. Travel. C. Sports. D. Music.

A. She went to the forest alone in 1957.
B. She only studied chimps’ personalities.

D. She found that chimps could use tools to get food.
33. Why did Jane Goodall leave the Gombe forest?
A. She wanted to protect chimps and their homes.
