I took an active part in class activities and practiced simple talks with My English teacher after class.
Little by little, I become more confident. I learned that difficulties are good chances for us to improve. We should never be afraid of them. If we face difficulties bravely, we will become better ourselves

Great progress in basic science and high-tech industries has recently made China’s young scientists and creators the focus of the whole world. At the 2026 International Congress of Mathematicians (国际数学家大会) held in Philadelphia, USA, two graduates from Peking University, Wang Hong and Deng Yu, won the Fields Medal. This prize is called the “Nobel Prize for math”, which is given only to top researchers under 40.
Wang Hong finished her four-year math study at Peking University in 2011. Then she went to France for further learning and later got her doctor’s degree from MIT in America. Though her path to success is not easy, her love for Maths finally led her to the destination. Different from Wang, Deng Yu is known as a math talent from an early age. He showed amazing ability and strong interest in maths from middle school. Besides math, Deng has many hobbies, such as watching cartoons, writing poems and playing chess.
Yang Zhilin, a 34-year-old tech entrepreneur (企业家) born in 1992, is another famous young innovator. After graduating from Tsinghua University, he finished his doctoral study in AI and worked in American tech companies. Later, he returned to China and co-founded Moonshot AI. His latest AI model Kimi K3 has drawn wide attention from the world’s tech circle. Another AI founder Liang Wenfeng also shared valuable ideas about the future of AI, causing hot public discussion online.
These young people’s stories show a big change in China’s science field. Their achievements do not only depend on personal hard work. Behind every breakthrough, there is a complete national system: strong university resources, perfect industrial chains and long-term support for basic science research. All these advantages help young innovators make more world-class progress in the future.
39. Who can win the Fields Medal?

42. What is the best title for the whole passage?
A. Different Hobbies of Top Young Scientists B. The Introduction to the Famous Fields Medal
C. How Chinese Students Study Math in Foreign Countries
D. Chinese Young Innovators Shine in Global Science and Tech

Young people in China are showing off their style with fun bag charms (包挂). These small decorations hang from backpacks and swing as people walk. They help young people show who they are and create a new way of emotional connection.
There are all kinds of these bag charms. Some are soft, plush toys, while others get ideas from traditional Chinese culture or museum pieces. For example, Xi’an Momo Dolls and Sanxingdui’s Bronze Mask series reimagine traditional elements (元素) into new forms. These “China-chic” designs turn bag charms into cultural bridges between the past and present.
These charms offer more than just a decorative touch; they play a key role in breaking the ice among strangers. A shared charm can help people connect with just a smile. As the Chinese New Year came near, Vicky, who lives in Nanjing, bought clothes not just for her family, but for her charms. “I match charms to my mood and clothes,” she explains. “Sometimes they feel like emotional codes — shared understanding brings quick connections at once.”
The charms have become popular because of the new and better ways of making them in places like Guangdong. Dongguan, known as the “designer toy capital”, has thousands of factories using smart technology to create new designs quickly. Today, these charms are reshaping the international image of “Made in China” by telling stories based on local creativity. These small items are building emotional ties with customers around the world and showing special Eastern beauty.
A Grade - 10 student from Nanjing shared her thoughts. “Every time I see the same charm on a stranger’s backpack, it feels like discovering a tiny bridge linking two unknown hearts.” Dr Zhang, a teacher from Guangdong University of Finance & Economics, also put forward his view: “If fashionable small goods rush into teenagers’ daily life endlessly, will the nice glow of such lovely accessories (配饰) finally change into meaningless desire?”
43. What can we learn about Sanxingdui Bronze Mask bag charms?
A. They are real ancient museum works.
B. They mainly spread culture inside museums.
C. They are expensive gifts for museum visitors.
D. They carry ancient cultural elements in new forms.
44. What does the writer want to tell us by saying “Sometimes they feel like emotional codes”?
A. Bag charms hold hidden symbols. B. Teens leave messages on their charms.
C. People buy clothes just for charms. D. The same charm can quickly connect people.
45. What helps charms gain worldwide popularity?
A. Popular Chinese New Year shopping. B. New technology and local creativity.
C. Ancient museum collections’ long history. D. Varieties of soft and lovely plush toys.
46. What is Dr Zhang’s opinion towards bag charms?
A. Positive. B. Supportive. C. Worried D. Curious.

Tom and Becky walked into the cave, holding their candles high. They saw wonderful rocks that looked like frozen waterfalls. They walked deeper and deeper into the cave, forgetting the way back. No one else came to this part of the cave, because everyone thought it was an endless maze.
When they finally realized they were lost, their candles were almost burned out. Becky cried. “Tom, I’m so scared. We should never have come here. No one will find us!”
Tom held her hand and said, “Don’t worry, Becky. I will get us out of here. I’ll find the way.”
Tom blew out Becky’s candle to save the wax. He used his last candle to look for the way out. He walked from one tunnel to another, but every tunnel led to a dead end. Then, when he turned a corner, he saw a man holding a candle in the distance. Tom shouted with joy, but the man ran away quickly. It was Injun Joe, the murderer. Tom was too scared to move. He knew Injun Joe would kill him if he found Tom. But Tom didn’t tell Becky about Injun Joe. He didn’t want her to be more scared.
He kept looking for the way out. Three days passed. They had no food or water. Becky was too weak to walk. Tom gave her his last piece of cake, and told her he would find a way out. He took the candle and went into a small tunnel. He crawled for a long time. Then, he saw a small light at the end of the tunnel. It was sunlight! He had found the exit!
He went back to get Becky, and helped her crawl to the exit. They climbed out of the cave, and found they were five miles away from the entrance. Some people on a boat saw them and took them back to the town. Everyone was so happy to see them and amazed at what had happened to them.
