Liu Lingli has been a teacher for hearing-impaired (听力受损的) children for 33 years. Her first communication with hearing-impaired people was with her neighbor, Mrs. Wang. One day, when Liu was playing in her house, Mrs. Wang used sign language (手语) to communicate with her. But Liu couldn’t understand. Mrs. Wang’s husband told Liu that Mrs. Wang wanted to make her hear.
“I was moved, so I decided to become a teacher for hearing-impaired students,” Liu said.
At first, Liu almost gave up because of difficulties. She then thought about her neighbor and the pain on her face when she could not make people understand what she was trying to say. That made Liu stick to her dream of being a “special education” teacher and she succeeded.
Although she was only 18 at that time, she regarded the students as her children. Every day, she spent a lot of time teaching them to speak. One of her students, Jiang Yan, said Liu would show over 100 times to speak just one word. She also taught the students how to wash their faces and clothes, and clip nails.
Liu Lingli put lots of effort into helping them live better, too. With her help and encouragement, another student Liu Hanxiang could communicate normally with others. Liu Hanxiang learned to dance and is a member of an art group now.
Thanks to Liu’s devotion (奉献), more than 20 students have received higher education. “Whenever they tried to say ‘mom’ or ‘dad’ for the first time, I felt it was the sweetest sound in the world,” Liu Lingli said.
29.Why did Liu Lingli decide to become a teacher of “special education”?
A.Because she was interested in sign language.
B.Because she wanted to be a successful teacher.
C.Because she was moved by her neighbor’s act.
D.Because she wanted to help Mrs. Wang’s husband to speak.
30.What did Liu Lingli teach her students to do according to Paragraph 4?
①Speak. ②Learn art. ③Clip nails. ④Wash faces and clothes.
A.①②③ B.①②④ C.②③④ D.①③④

①Are you tired of people asking the questions, “What’s your hobby?” Well, you always hear the same old answers: reading, listening to music, painting and so on. There’s nothing wrong with these activities, but maybe it’s time for some new ideas.
②For example, how about “yarn bombing”? What’s that? Maybe you have heard of knitting (编织) to make sweaters, scarves, gloves and other things. With yarn bombing, people knit different kinds of things, like sweaters for trees or hats for the stones in the park. It’s the latest form of artwork. In some cities, people are even paying knitters to decorate public places with their art. Some call it “Knitting Graffiti (涂鸦), ” but unlike other forms of graffiti, it is easy to take away, and it doesn’t destroy anything.
③Do you like those TV shows in which the police use science to solve crimes? If you do, you can take up “forensic science” as a hobby. That’s the science used to find crimes. You can get a set of at-home fingerprint tools and find out who is taking cookies from the cookie box or perhaps who is reading your secret diary.
④Finally, here’s a hobby for those who want to have fun and make a little money. It’s called “upcycling”. You’ve heard of recycling—you put things like glass, paper and plastic in special boxes so the materials can be used again. Upcyclers take old things and make them into new things. Sometimes they can even sell the things they make. For example, you can take an old book bag, clean it up and decorate it. It will look like a cool new bag. There’s even a magazine called Upcycle that is full of ideas. All you need for this is an old thing and a good imagination.
⑤So look around for a new and interesting hobby. Then when someone asks you the question “What’s your hobby?”, you can give them an answer that they’ve never heard before.
33.What does the underlined word “It” in Paragraph 2 refer to?
A.Yarn bombing. B.Graffiti. C.The park. D.Knitting.

On May 10, 2025, the Jiangsu Football City League started at Zhenjiang Sports and Exhibition Center. It is a provincial amateur ( 业余 ) football competition, but it became very popular in China quickly. After only four rounds, more than 190,000 people watched the games in person. Online, hundreds of millions of people watched them too, according to Xinhua.
The league, also called “Su Super League”, runs from May to November. There are 13 teams, each from a different city in Jiangsu. First, all 13 teams play against each other once. Then the top 8 teams move to the knockout stage. They play to decide the top 4 teams, and finally the champion.

Liu Tong, from Jiangsu Sports Bureau, said, “This is a new way to do basic-level soccer.
