Have you ever seen a subway station made just for cats? A young man named Xing Zhilei spent over four months building a “cat subway station”.
When people look into the subway station, surprises come one after another. It is far more than a toy. It is a real mini subway system. It has tunnels (隧道), platforms (站台), synchronized (同步的) doors and even a moving train. When the train doors open, cats can jump in and out easily. The “cat subway station” looks like a living system.
The “cat subway station” is very popular with many people online. In fact, during the building process, Xing faced some challenges. One was how to open the train doors and platform doors at the same time when the train arrives at the station, and the second was how to build a functioning escalator (功能正常的自动扶梯). After many tries, Xing solved all the problems and the “cat subway station” was ready for use!
The “cat subway station” is like a bridge between reality and dreams. In this fast-changing world, people often feel overwhelmed with their busy lives, but the “cat subway station” is like a calm corner, and there people can find moments of peace and joy in their busy lives.
Xing has built many other places like a theatre, a house and a supermarket for cats. ______ They also show the magic of handmade art and its endless possibilities. “I will continue to share my works online and make the dream places in people’s hearts come true,” Xing said.
3. What can people find in the “cat subway station”?
A. A moving train. B. Cat food. C. Pictures of trains.
4. Which parts of the “cat subway station” may be the hardest to make?
①Doors. ②Platforms. ③The escalator.
A. ①② B. ①③ C. ②③
5. What does the underlined word “overwhelmed” mean in Paragraph 4?
A. 轻松自在的 B. 枯燥乏味的 C. 不堪重负的
6. Which of the following is the best for “______”?
A. They draw more kids to learn about subways.

C. They show Xing’s plan to open a real subway station in the future.

Think of a simple object—a piece of chalk (粉笔), for example. Are you remembering its name, its shape, its color or its size? Are you remembering what it is used for, or the sound it makes when the teacher writes on the blackboard? Scientists say that memory includes (包括) different parts of the brain (大脑), such as language and the ability of sense (感觉). They believe that you begin to create a memory when you notice something with your senses. Then messages are sent to different brain cells (细胞), which join together to form connections. A new connection goes into your short—term memory. It is stored there for about 30 seconds, and then it is either lost or stored in your long—term memory.
Having a good memory means making lots of connections and storing them in your long—term memory. To do this, you need to keep your brain in good shape. Eat plenty of brain food, such as fish oil, fruit and vegetables. Laughter also makes your brain more active. Also, don’t forget to exercise. So do some sports or just move around a lot in the house. Finally, get plenty of sleep. This will make your memories grow stronger.
When you want to remember new information, you must pay special attention. Use your senses—sight, smell, hearing and touch-and keep repeating (重复) the information. To do well in your exams this year, turn off the TV, silence your mobile, and review (复习) your work regularly. To remember something special, use your imagination to create visual (视觉的) connections. For example, you need to take a pencil, an eraser, your ID card and chips to your next exam. Imagine the ID card as the body of an animal, the pencil its long neck, and the eraser its head. Your animal is hungry, so now imagine it eating a bag of chips. It may sound crazy, but it’s fun and it works. Another way is to do something different to your room. Turn a picture upside-down, or tie a sock around the door handle to remind yourself of something to remember
7. At the beginning, the writer gives an example to ______.
A. introduce the topic of the article B. show the importance of chalk C. let readers remember the word
8. How many ways are mentioned to have a good memory in Paragraph 2?
A. 2. B. 3. C. 4.
9. The main idea of the third paragraph is ______.
A. how to do well in exams
B. how to remember new information
C. why to review your work
10. Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?
A. Memory has nothing to do with languages.
B. Laughter can help to improve our memory.
C. Our brain is difficult to keep in good shape.
第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)

Reading is fun! Besides reading for fun, we can also think about how we can learn more from texts by reading. One way to do this with fiction books or passages is by finding the theme (主题).
The theme of a book is the “big idea” that runs throughout the text. ____11____ Most of the time, the theme of a book is not written out in the words. You have to use clues (线索) in the text to find it.
To start finding the theme, first you need to make sure you’ve read the whole text. Characters change throughout the story. ____12____
After reading the text, summarize the plot (概括情节). What important events happen in the story? ____13____ How does the problem get solved? How do the characters change? What do the characters learn?
____14____ For example, you can follow the pattern: the plot focuses on friendship, the characters solve family problems, and hard work helps the main characters a lot. Once you’ve found a “big idea”, go through the text to find clues that support (支持) this idea. If there is only one small problem with a character’s family, then “family” might not be the theme of the text. ____15____
Now you are ready to find the theme in any story! Happy reading!
A. What is the problem?
B. It connects the characters and events.
C. You might find more clues for friendship or honesty.
D. Use the answers from those questions to see if you can find a pattern (模式).
E. So what you think is the theme in the beginning might not be true at the end!
