Born in China in 1922 and receiving his early education during unsettled times, he pursued advanced studies in the United States after World War II. His most celebrated achievement came in 1957 when he and Tsung-Dao Lee proposed that the law of parity conservation (宇称守恒) — a long-held principle in physics — could be violated in certain subatomic interactions. This bold theoretical prediction, which challenged a fundamental symmetry (对称) belief, was soon confirmed by experiments, earning them the Nobel Prize in Physics that same year. This remarkably swift recognition highlighted the revolutionary nature of their work, transforming our understanding of the universe’s basic forces. Beyond the laboratory, Yang’s life narrative is one of bridging divides. For decades, he served as a crucial link for scientific exchange between China and the West, fostering collaboration and understanding during times of complex international relations. His decision to return to China and give up his U.S. citizenship in his later years was driven by a profound sense of duty and a desire to contribute directly to his homeland’s scientific development. He settled at Tsinghua University, not merely as an honorary figure but as an active educator and advisor. There, he dedicated himself to reforming science education, raising funds for advanced research facilities, and personally mentoring young scholars, aiming to cultivate the next generation of scientific talent with both global vision and local roots. Yang’s legacy is thus twofold and deeply inspiring. He is respected both for expanding the fundamental boundaries of human knowledge through his Nobel-winning work and for his unwavering commitment to applying that knowledge for societal good and global connection. His journey from a student in wartime China to a Nobel Prize winner in America, and finally to a guiding elder statesman of science back in China, teaches a powerful lesson: that true greatness lies in uniting intellectual pursuit with cultural responsibility, demonstrating that these paths can, and should, walk hand in hand toward human progress. 24. Why did Yang Zhenning win the Nobel Prize? A. He found the truth about subatomic interactions. B. He invented a crucial experimental device. C. He overturned a fundamental law in physics. D. He published the first physics textbook in China. 25. What made Yang Zhenning’s return to China? A. His eagerness to boost China’s science. B. His confidence in his professional skills. C. His determination to fight against wars. D. His guilt of owning U.S. citizenship. 26. What’s Yang Zhenning’s role at Tsinghua University? A. An educator and instructor. B. An official and fund-raiser. C. A consultant and writer. D. A reformer and investor. 27. Which of the following can best describe Yang Zhenning? A. Ambitious and empathetic. B. A new study from Southern Methodist University psychologist Sarah Kucker and colleagues reveals that passive video use among children can negatively affect language development, but their caregiver’s motivations for exposing them to digital media could also lessen the impact. Published in the journal Acta Paediatrica, the study involved 302 caregivers of children between 17 and 30 months. Caregivers answered questions about their child’s words, sentences, and how much time they spend on different media activities each day. Those activities included video/TV, video games, video chat, and e-books, with caregivers explaining why they use each activity with their child. Print book reading was also compared. Researchers looked at the amount of media use and the reasons provided by caregivers for their children’s media use. These factors were then compared to the children’s vocabulary and length using two or more words together. The research reveals a negative association between high levels of digital media watching and children’s vocabulary development. However, the negative impact on language skills was lessened when videos were used for educational purposes or to foster social connections-such as through video chats with family members. Kucker acknowledges that parents often use digital media to occupy children while they complete tasks. She suggests that caregivers need to consider what kind of videos and how much their children are watching, and whether they can interact with them during this period. Future research by Kucker and her colleagues will continue to explore the types of videos young children watch, how they use screens with others, and how that impacts language development. 28. What is the potential impact of being exposed to videos by caregivers on children? A. It enhances their vocabulary development. B. It has no significant effect on their language skills. C. It leads to the use of shorter phrases and sentences. D. It encourages them to read print books more often. 29. What do paragraph 2 and 3 tell us about the study? A. Its research process. B. Its theoretical basis. C. Its underlying logic. D. Its scientific evidence. 30. Under what circumstance can the negative impact be lessened? A. When children focus on tasks. B. When children get involved in the content. C. When videos serve as entertainment. D. When videos aid learning and bond building. 31. What is the purpose of the last paragraph? A. To point out the significance of the study. B. To bring out the focus of follow-up studies. C. To present the practical application of the findings. D. To discuss other affecting factors of babies’ growth. C 29. A 30. D 31. 根据文章第一段中的“Children exposed to videos by caregivers for their calming or “babysitting” benefits tended to use phrases and sentences with fewer words. (为了安抚情绪或“照顾”孩子而观看由看护人提供的视频的儿童倾向于使用词汇较少的短语和句子。)”可知,由看护者为了让婴儿安静或起到临时照看作用而让他们接触视频的孩子倾向于使用更少词汇的短语和句子。故选C。 【29题详解】 主旨大意题。根据文章第二段“Published in the journal Acta Paediatrica, the study involved 302 caregivers of children between 17 and 30 months. Caregivers answered questions about their child’s words, sentences, and how much time they spend on different media activities each day. Those activities included video/TV, video games, video chat, and e-books, with caregivers explaining why they use each activity with their child. Print book reading was also compared. (这项研究发表在《儿科学报》杂志上,涉及302名17至30个月大儿童的看护人。照顾者回答了关于孩子的单词、句子以及他们每天花在不同媒体活动上的时间的问题。这些活动包括视频/电视、视频游戏、视频聊天和电子书,看护人解释了他们为什么和孩子一起做这些活动。也比较了纸质书的阅读情况。)”和第三段“Researchers looked at the amount of media use and the reasons provided by caregivers for their children’s media use. These factors were then compared to the children’s vocabulary and length using two or more words together. (研究人员调查了孩子们使用媒体的数量,以及照顾者为孩子使用媒体提供的原因。然后将这些因素与孩子们的词汇量和使用两个或两个以上单词的长度进行比较。)”可知,这两段详细介绍了研究的实施过程,包括参与研究的儿童看护者的数量、他们需要回答的问题内容、涉及的媒体活动类型,以及研究人员如何比较和分析这些因素对孩子词汇发展的影响。故选A。 根据文章第四段中的“However, the negative impact on language skills was lessened when videos were used for educational purposes or to foster social connections-such as through video chats with family members. (然而,当视频用于教育目的或促进社会联系时(例如通过与家人视频聊天),对语言技能的负面影响就会减少。)”可知,当视频用于教育目的或促进社交联系时(如与家庭成员进行视频聊天),对语言技能的负面影响会减轻。故选D。 【31题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段“Future research by Kucker and her colleagues will continue to explore the types of videos young children watch, how they use screens with others, and how that impacts language development. How do billions of neurons (神经元)produce thoughts and memories? Today, artificial intelligence (AI) is providing new clues. By using machine learning to analyze brain data, researchers can translate neural activity (神经活动)into understandable information, advancing both neuroscience (神经科学)and medicine. The key challenge lies in interpreting the brain’s “neural code” — the complex electrical and chemical signals that represent our mental activity. Traditional methods struggle with this noisy and intricate data, but AI, particularly deep learning, excels at detecting patterns within it. These systems learn from examples: By training AI on paired brain scans and corresponding images, scientists can teach it to predict what a person is seeing based solely on brain signals — a process known as “neural decoding.” A major application is brain-computer interfaces (BCIS) (脑机接口), which assist people unable to speak or move. Surgeons place tiny electrodes (电极)on the brain’s surface. When a user imagines speaking, the electrodes detect the signals, and AI decodes them in real time, turning imagined speech into text or artificial voice. Recent advances even allow “typing” by decoding imagined handwriting. Beyond communication, AI offers a window into perception. Using brain scans and generative AI, scientists can reconstruct simple versions of images or videos a person views. This not only helps explain how vision is processed but may someday allow us to visualize dreams or memories. Yet such technology raises serious ethical questions. Decoding thoughts poses a threat to “mental privacy.” Who controls our brain data? Could it be used without permission? Moreover, AI may reproduce biases from its training data, leading to unfair outcomes. Strong ethical guidelines are needed to protect neural information as the technology develops. Looking ahead AI brain decoders are likely to integrate brain scans with genetic and wearable device data. This could improve early diagnosis of conditions like Alzheimer’s (阿尔茨海默病). The collaboration between AI and neuroscience is not merely about better tools — it is about understanding the human mind and repairing its broken connections. 32. What is the primary purpose of the passage? A. To warn against the potential threats posed by brain-decoding technology. B. To explain the principles and implications of AI in decoding brain signals. C. To compare traditional methods with AI in analyzing brain data. D. To advertise the latest medical devices for paralyzed patients. 33. What does the underlined word “decode” Most likely mean in the context? A To translate signals or data into understandable information. B. To remove secret protection from a message. C. To improve the quality of a weak signal. D. To send instructions to a machine. 34. What is the major ethical concern associated with brain-decoding technology in the text? A. It is too expensive for widespread clinical use. B. The accuracy of the technology is still too low for practical application. C. It may invade personal mental privacy and be misused without approval. D. It requires risky brain surgery that can cause severe side effects. 35. What is the author’s view on the field’s future development in the last paragraph? A. It will focus on restoring communication in paralyzed individuals. B. Progress is limited by the patients’ unwillingness to share brain data. C. It aims to combine multiple data types to better understand and treat brain disorders. D. It will replace human doctors in diagnosing all mental illnesses. 【答案】32. B 33. A 34. C 35. Bigger kids at school sometimes bump into me or step on my toes for not seeing me. At the playground, little kids even try to boss me around. I used to try to make myself taller. I hung from the tree in our backyard to stretch out my limbs. I even ate my vegetables — all of them — but I never seemed to grow. “Don’t worry.” Mom said, “Being small has its benefits.” Really? I’d never noticed any. One day, Mrs. Alvarez told the class that we’d be putting on a spring play. I practiced all the lines before the audition, but I never got a chance to deliver them. As soon as I walked onstage, Mrs. Alvarez cried out, “Sophie! You’ll be perfect as the elf! You’re just the right size for the costume.” When the auditions were finished, Mom was waiting outside for me. “Mrs. Alvarez made me an elf,” I grumbled. “I don’t want to be in the play any more.” Patting my head, Mom comforted me that I would be the best elf in the play. I nodded reluctantly. In the play’s last scene, the main character finds a box under a giant mushroom. When she opens it, a dog jumps out. Mrs. Alvarez’s dog, Prince, played the dog role. She brought him to all the rehearsals. He liked all the kids, but he seemed to like me best. Unexpectedly, something dramatic happened on the night of the show. When the box was opened, Prince jumped out as planned. He jumped into the giant mushroom, though, which fell over. Then he leaped off the stage and disappeared underneath it. Mrs. Alvarez called him, but he whimpered and refused to come out. The lights came on in the theater, and the audience started to fidget (坐立不安) in their seats. The entire class gathered at the edge of the stage. “How are we going to get him out of there?” Mrs. Alvarez asked. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Finally, I came out with the dog in my arms. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 “How are we going to get him out of there?” Mrs. Alvarez asked. I looked down through the gap in the stage. It was dark and dusty, but I could see Prince shivering. He seemed scared. I thought about how he liked me best. “I can try,” I said quietly. Mrs. Alvarez looked at my small frame. “Oh, Sophie, I don’t know if you’ll fit.” But she had no other ideas. She helped me down. I took a deep breath and crawled into the dark space. It was tight, but I just fit. “Come here, Prince,” I whispered. He whimpered and crawled over, licking my face. I wrapped my arms around him and started backing out, pulling him with me. The audience held their breath. Finally, I came out with the dog in my arms. A huge cheer went up from the crowd. Mrs. Alvarez hugged me, her eyes wet. “You were wonderful, Sophie! My hero!” The play continued, and while no one remembered much about the elf lines, everyone talked about how the smallest girl saved the show. Afterwards, Mom beamed with pride. “See?” she said, “Being small has its benefits.” For the first time, I believed her. 词类激活: 行为类: 小声说:whisper/murmur/mutter softly 爬进:crawl into/climb into/squeeze into 后退:back out/move backwards 情绪类: 害怕的:scared/frightened/afraid 骄傲地:with pride/proudly 点睛】【高分句型1】I thought about how he liked me best. B Yang Zhenning, a towering figure in 20th-century physics, represents the spirit of exploration and cross-cultural dialogue. B. Dedicated and down-to-earth. C. Responsible and humble. D. Revolutionary and dutiful. C Children exposed to videos by caregivers for their calming or “babysitting” benefits tended to use phrases and sentences with fewer words. D For centuries, the human brain has remained one of science’s greatest mysteries. Looking ahead, AI brain decoders are likely to integrate brain scans with genetic and wearable device data. A. To translate signals or data into understandable information. 第二节(共5小题; 每小题2.5分, 满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文, 从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 How to Keep Learning Efficiently Learning is not just about spending more hours with a book. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $听力考试正式开始。Oh my gosh, I am almost wet all over. I've got some updates about this year's school photography competition. You might remember that last year's theme was travel, but this time your photos should be connected to the environment. We want you to really think about how nature plays a role in our everyday lives, just like before, there are a few requirements. All photos must include wildlife, so please don't just take pictures of landscapes or people. Make sure there's some kind of animal in the shot IT could be birds or insects, anything that shows the beauty of wild life. Also, we have a new judge this year. The head teacher wanted to invite local artist Sally graves, but SHE won't be available at that time. Luckily, writer James mckay has agreed to help instead. I'm sure many of you know him. He's quite well known and actually grew up here. He's excited to see your work. As for the prize, we've made a change. We know most of you already have photography equipment or books, so instead, the winner will get a place on a photography course at central college that should be a great learning opportunity and a fun experience, too. Thank you for your attention, and we look forward to seeing your photos. Listen up, everyone. I've got some updates about this year's school photography competition.
