The Healthy Habits Survey shows that only about one third of American seniors have correct habits. Here are some findings and expert advice.
1. How many times did you brush your teeth yesterday?
Finding: A full 33% of seniors brush their teeth only once a day.
Step: Remove the 300 types of bacteria (细菌) in your mouth each morning with a battery-operated toothbrush. Brush gently for 2 minutes, at least twice a day.
2. How many times did you wash your hands or bathe yesterday?
Finding: Seniors, on average, bathe fewer than 3 days a week. And nearly 30% wash their hands only 4 times a day — half of the number doctors recommend.
Step: We touch our faces around 3,000 times a day — often inviting germs (病菌) to enter our mouth, nose, and eyes. Use toilet paper to avoid touching the door handle. And, most important, wash your hands often with hot running water and soap for 20 seconds.
3. How often do you think about fighting germs?
Finding: Seniors are not fighting germs as well as they should.
Step: Be aware of germs. Do you know it is not your toilet but your kitchen sponge(海绵) that can carry more germs than anything else? To kill these germs, keep your sponge in the microwave for 10 seconds.
1. What is found out about American seniors?
A. Most of them have good habits.

Twenty years ago, I drove a taxi for a living. One night I went to pick up a passenger at 2:30 AM. When I arrived there, I found the building was dark except for a single light in a ground floor window.
I walked to the door and knocked, “Just a minute,” answered a weak, elderly voice.
After a long pause, the door opened. A small woman in her eighties stood before me. By her side was a small suitcase.
I took the suitcase to the car, and then returned to help the woman. She took my arm and we walked slowly toward the car.
She kept thanking me for my kindness. “It’s nothing,” I told her. “I just try to treat my passengers the way I would want my mother treated.”
“Oh you’re such a good man,” she said. When we got into the taxi, she gave me an address, and then asked, “Could you drive through downtown?”
“It’s not the shortest way,” I answered quickly.
“Oh, I’m in no hurry,” she said, “I’m on my way to a hospice (临终医院). I don’t have any family left. The doctor says I don’t have very long.”
I quietly reached over and shut off the meter (计价器).
For the next two hours, we drove through the city. She showed me the building where she had once worked, the neighborhood where she had lived, and the furniture shop that had once been a ballroom where she had gone dancing as a girl.
Sometimes she’d ask me to slow down in front of a special building and would sit staring into the darkness, saying nothing.
At dawn, she suddenly said, “I’m tired. Let’s go now.”
We drove in silence to the address she had given me.
“How much do I pay you?” she asked.
“Nothing,” I said.
“You have to make a living,” she answered. “Oh, there are other passengers,” I answered.
Almost without thinking, I gave her a hug. She held on me and said, “You gave an old woman a little moment of joy.”

Visiting a museum or going on a study tour is a quickly growing social activity, which has significantly increased footfalls at major museums. This situation has prompted many museums to extend their opening hours. What’s more, the visitors include not just history and archeology (考古) lovers, but also an increasing number of ordinary people.
All this suggests the cultural tourism field is showing strong recovery which has sped up the mix of culture and tourism. However, the rapidly rising footfalls present new challenges for the museums, as they have to cater to the visitors’ demand for special cultural services and take measures to support school research better.
The Suzhou Museum in Jiangsu province offers an example of how museums can adapt to deal with the onrush of visitors. Firstly, the museums should expand their roles beyond the traditional field of education and research, and join the local tourism area. In 2007, the Suzhou Museum conducted a survey of visitors through a questionnaire, which showed that the most of the visitors were young well-educated people who were very active on social media. And social media users influence people’s travel habits or decisions, giving rise to popular things such as “city walks”. Based on this insight, the museum published a pocketbook providing information on both its collections and local tourist spots in Suzhou.
Second, the application of digital technology can improve changes in the cultural area. Some museums have also found new ways of interacting with online visitors. 3D virtual modeling and digitalized exhibitions can give visitors the chance to explore museums from a distance.
Third, there is a growing trend of cross-border integration of cultural and educational resources. Politics encourages students to visit museums, improving their historical knowledge through school-related lessons.
Last but not least, museums must also cater to elderly visitors, who make up over 20% of China’s population. The Suzhou Museum carried out a survey of more than 800 people aged 60 or above through questionnaires and interviews last year to understand their preferences and develop age-friendly services. These include making places easy to reach, providing efficient medical services, and displaying artworks in ways that reduce physical effort for all visitors.
Only by paying attention to the real needs of the people can museums provide better cultural offerings and services.
8. What does the underlined phrase “cater to” in paragraph 2 mean?
A. Satisfy. B. Afford. C. Support. D. Help.
9. Who are likely to visit museums most according to the survey conducted in 2007?
A. Art and photography fans.
B. History and archeology lovers.
C. International exchanges students.
D. Young, well-educated social media users.
10. How did the Suzhou Museum adapt to the increase in visitors?
A. By extending opening hours. B. By meeting different requirements.
C. By focusing on academic researches. D. By providing more educational resources.
11. What’s the purpose of this passage?
A. To develop tourism in Jiangsu province.
B. To describe the present state of museums.
C. To discuss the challenges faced by museums.
D. To explain how museums rise to the challenges.

第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项,选项中有两项为多余选项。
Good goal-setting habits
Setting goals is not just about knowing how to set them. It’s also important to know why you’re setting them in the first place. ____16____ Here are some tips you can help develop good goal-setting habits.
____17____ You’ll be more likely to achieve your goals if they come from a healthy, actual attitude. If your goal is to develop better eating habits, for instance, you will have a greater chance of success if your motivation is to feel healthier and more energetic, rather than to look good for your upcoming high school reunion.
Create a realistic plan. Any goal-setting plan should be realistic — and non-negotiable, except in the case of an emergency or risk. “If your goal is to get regular exercise, set a plan for what activity you’ll do and how much time or distance you will cover each day,” says Wallin. ____18____. Just do it.
Reward yourself for achieving your goals. This positive reward can help train your brain to keep healthy habits. A reward helps your brain decide whether or not this behavior is worth repeating. ____19____ Maybe treating yourself to a cup of coffee after a workout gym session.
Have an action plan for potential difficulties. ____20____ Prepare for some discomfort when you're trying to change your behaviour. Forgive yourself, but don’t make excuses. Figure out what has been standing in your way, and then revise your plan accordingly. If you're struggling to recognize barriers, consider seeking advice from a family member, friend, or expert.
A. What does that look like?
B. Understand your potential.
C. Set a goal for your right reasons.
D. Even the best-laid plans can go off the tracks.
E. Goal-setting is a significant step in achieving success.
F. Then, when it’s time to exercise, don’t make any excuses.
G. You are more likely to stick to your goals when you are really motivated.
【答案】16. E 17. C 18. F 19. A 20. D

“Oh, you’re such a good man,” she said.

All this suggests the cultural tourism field is showing strong recovery, which has sped up the mix of culture and tourism.

Beijing recently gave the first food business license to a type of robot, pioneering the application of intelligence in the country’s food and drink industry during rapid development.
Unlike single-task robots, such as pancake-making or noodle-machine, the embodied (植入) intelligence robots developed by EncoSmart Technology, a Beijing-based company, can cook different types of dishes. The robots, which look like robotic arms, can also continue learning to create new menus and avoid safety risks based on the working environment.
“Artificial intelligence is an unavoidable trend in the food and drink industry,” said XiaPing, head of the catering department of the Haidian District Market Regulation Bureau, “Before giving the license, we strictly examined the product to make sure it follows national food safety rules. The robot design puts safety in the first place, from hardware materials to software algorithms (算法).” she said.
Tian Yan, head of smart project development at EncoSmart, said: “We’ve already put our first-generation robot that offers fried food in certain office buildings in Haidian. By the end of the year, we plan to expand the services to chain restaurants, enabling robots to make ice cream, drinks and salads.” Tian said she believes that embodied intelligence technology can help reduce costs, simplify food processing, and meet consumer demand for different tastes. “Our goal is to make robots more affordable,” she said. “Safety is the key. Our robots can learn through algorithms to improve heating efficiency in order to make the food more tasty. The seasons on robots can track the temperatures of oil to avoid any kitchen fire risks.”
Wang Xinwei, leader of the Beijing Branch of the World Federation of Chinese Catering Industry, said, “The first embodied AI robot food business license symbolizes that this new technology is quickly entering the food and drink market, making it easier to use cook books and hire cooks.”
“While the spread of embodied AI robots may increase short-term employment pressure, in the long run, they will drive the restaurant industry toward greater intelligence, creating new jobs. The key is balancing technological progress with social responsibility to ensure economic and social development,” Wang said.
12. What is special about the robots developed by EncoSmart Technology?
A. They can make pancakes and noodles.
B. They are designed to look like human cooks.
C. They can cook various dishes and keep learning.
D. They can perform different kitchen tasks at a time.
13. According to Xia Pingping, what was the focus of the pre-license examination of the robots?
A. Their safety with food rules.
B. Their appearance and design.
C. Their ability to create new menus.
D. Their efficiency in food processing.
14. What do we know about the robots according to Tian Yan?
A. They are likely to cut down costs.
B. They can design restaurant menus.
C. They can learn new skills and create dishes.
D. They have offered services to chain restaurants.
15. What is Wang Xinwei’s attitude towards the embodied AI robots in the food industry?
A. Doubtful B. Positive. C. Passive. D. Concerned.
