This 30-year-old engineer is the creator of “Pavegen”, a paving tile (铺地砖) that turns the force of people’s footsteps into clean, renewable energy. The idea first came to him while he worked at the energy company E.ON. He was asked to design a street light that’s powered by solar energy or by wind. “But when the sun’s not shining or the wind’s not blowing, there’s no power. So I tried for a year and failed.” He was really upset. Then one day he was walking through Victoria Station in London and thought about all the people there. “I’d read that 38,000 people an hour walked through the station. What if we could use that energy as a power source?” he thought. So we have Pavegen. The weight of a footstep on his tile makes a flywheel inside it turn. “The more people walk, the more this flywheel turns,” Laurence explains. “Then we withdraw the power from the flywheel as we need it.” At the Paris Marathon, where Pavegen installed (安装) tiles at the finish, the runners crossed 176 tiles, leaving 401,756 footsteps that generated 3,141,926 joules (焦耳) — enough to recharge 1,880 mobile phones or power an electric car for 24km. Today Laurence has already exported his tiles to the world. “We’ve done more than 130 projects in over 30 countries. My vision is for Pavegen to be to cities what ‘Intel inside’ is for PCs. I want to cover every single city in the world with our tiles,” he said. But the producing cost — which Laurence estimates as £230-£310 per square metre of tile — remains a problem. Laurence claims, “In the next 24 months we’ll make our tiles the same price as normal flooring. And when you install them, they’ll give you energy for free.” 24. What directly inspired Laurence to develop Pavegen? A. The energy crisis in London. B. A solar-powered street light project. C. The high foot traffic at Victoria Station. D. A request from the energy company E.ON. 25. What is the function of the flywheel? A. To change footsteps into energy. B. To consume generated energy. C. To control power output. D. To enhance tile durability. 26. What do the numbers in paragraph 5 show about Pavegen? A. Its popularity. B. Its composition. C. Its sustainability. D. Its effectiveness. 27. What can we conclude about the future of Pavegen? A. It will expand across the whole world soon. B. It will be widely used for sports events. C. It will become easily affordable. D. It will replace traditional tiles. C 25. A 26. D 27. 根据文章第三段“He was really upset. Then one day he was walking through Victoria Station in London and thought about all the people there. “I’d read that 38,000 people an hour walked through the station. What if we could use that energy as a power source?” he thought. 根据文章第四段“So we have Pavegen. The weight of a footstep on his tile makes a flywheel inside it turn. “The more people walk, the more this flywheel turns,” Laurence explains. “Then we withdraw the power from the flywheel as we need it.” (于是就有了“Pavegen”。当人们的脚步踩在这种地砖上时,地砖内部的一个飞轮就会转动。“走路的人越多,这个飞轮转动得就越多,”Laurence解释道,“然后我们可以根据需要从飞轮中获取电力。”)”可知,当人们的脚步踩在“Pavegen”地砖上时,地砖内部的飞轮会转动,转动的飞轮能让人们提取所需的电力。因此,飞轮的功能是将脚步转化为能量。故选A。 根据文章第五段“At the Paris Marathon, where Pavegen installed (安装) tiles at the finish, the runners crossed 176 tiles, leaving 401,756 footsteps that generated 3,141,926 joules (焦耳) — enough to recharge 1,880 mobile phones or power an electric car for 24km. 根据文章最后一段“But the producing cost — which Laurence estimates as £230-£310 per square metre of tile — remains a problem. Laurence claims, “In the next 24 months we’ll make our tiles the same price as normal flooring. And when you install them, they’ll give you energy for free.” (但是,生产成本——Laurence估计每平方米地砖的成本在230到310英镑之间——仍然是个问题。Laurence宣称:“在未来的24个月里,我们会让我们的地砖价格与普通地板的价格一样。而且当你安装了它们,它们会免费为你提供能源。”)”可知,目前“Pavegen”地砖的生产成本较高,这是个问题,但劳伦斯宣称在未来24个月内会让这种地砖的价格和普通地板一样,即价格会变得更合理,人们更容易负担得起。故选C。 C Precision agriculture is one of the most significant trends in modern farming. One particularly promising application involves the use of real-time imaging to visualize how tiny drops of liquid are forming on plant surfaces. Unlike conventional agriculture where farmers often rely on general estimates and uniform application of pesticides (杀虫剂) across the entire field, this technology helps farmers maximize productivity while minimizing inputs. This development originated from the work of Vishnu Jayaprakash, who had some family exposure to the process of spraying (喷洒) crops and recognized that the main challenge in that process is how to make water-based sprays interact effectively with surfaces of plants. Several factors influence this process, including the pressure, flow and nozzle (喷嘴) design of the application device, and the temperature, sunlight intensity, wind and other conditions at the time of spraying. To effectively address this issue, Jayaprakash developed a two-camera system that can be connected to typical spraying equipment and use imaging of the sprayed solution on the target plants to determine necessary adjustments for the best degree of coverage with appropriately sized tiny drops. The system can be used to make on-the-go adjustments in order to get the spray coverage “just right.” This allows farmers to use only 20-30% of the product per acre (英亩) while maintaining key functions like pest control, fertilization, and growth regulation. The advancement in precision agriculture is helping farmers reduce costs while maintaining crop protection. Susan Scheufele, an extension researcher at the University of Massachusetts, has conducted field trials with this technology on vegetable crops. In trials for cotton leaf removal, it has shown positive results even when used at 50% of the minimum recommended application rate on the product label. The primary benefit of precision agriculture methods lies beyond cost savings. Despite the fact that this technology still has a long way to go, its adoption ensures that chemical remains in crops are well below harmful levels, safeguarding ecosystems and food safety. 28. What can be learned about precision agriculture in paragraph 1? A. It visualizes plants more clearly. B. It uses pesticides more accurately. C. It continuously monitors plant growth. D. It estimates the need of the entire field. 29. How does Jayaprakash’s two-camera system work? A. By guiding spraying equipment to target plant surfaces. B. By calculating the precise amount of pesticide required. C. By making real-time adjustments to enhance spray coverage. D. By using imaging to closely monitor plant growth and health. 30. Why does the author mention Susan Scheufele’s field trials? A. To analyze the responses of different crops. B. To compare the application rates across crops. C. To illustrate the effectiveness of the technology. D. To highlight the limitations of traditional farming. 31. What is the author’s attitude toward precision agriculture? A. Intolerant. B. Doubtful. C. Unclear. D. Approving. 28. B 29. C 30. C 31. The concept originated from Walton’s teenage encounter with Stanford social psychologist Claude Steele’s work on “stereotype threat”: simply the fear of confirming a negative stereotype about one’s group could disturb them on a challenging test. But a simple reframing technique like calling a test “a puzzle” can break this cycle. “In tradition, ‘wise’ doesn’t mean good or effective — it’s more like street smarts paired with science,” Walton said. “It’s understanding that, for all of us, there are times in life when you walk into a situation that poses an uncomfortable question — a question that seeks to define you.” These questions often arise during important stages: a child beginning a new school or a college graduate starting his/her first job. Those moments can lead to questions like: “Do I belong here?”, “Can I do it?” “No one likes these doubts,” said Walton. “Often we pay no attention to these thoughts or try to push them away. But the sad truth is, left unaddressed, doubts like these can make themselves true. That’s what Steele’s stereotype threat did. People worried ‘If I do badly, will people judge my whole group?’That made it harder to do well on a tough test.” “But we can get ‘wise’ to psychological questions,” Walton said. “We can develop ‘an ear’ for them, and when we anticipate that they come up, we can learn to answer them well, both for others and for ourselves.” That effect can be significant. In one study, Walton found that a one-hour session addressing students’ worries about belonging during the change to college improved their lives 10 years later. “It needn’t be fancy. It might be as simple as an encouraging note from a teacher given at the right time,” Walton said. “This is ordinary magic,” said Walton. “Ordinary magic is vision that helps us see the good and competent persons we can become and how we can get there. They show us that failures don’t define us, that barriers are normal and that they need not stop us.” 32. What can a simple reframing technique do according to the text? A. Take the pressure away. B. Make people less confident. C. Remove positive thoughts. D. Get students more worried. 33. What is probably Walton’s suggestion about self- doubts? A. Pushing them away. B. Ignoring them. C. Dealing with them. D. Hiding them inside. 34. How did the belonging interventions influence the students? A. They made the students rely more on their teachers in daily study. B. They brought long-term positive changes to the students’ lives. C. They caused the students to have more doubts about their abilities. D. They directly raised the students’ academic scores in a short time. 35. What is a suitable title for the text? A. The principle of ordinary magic B. The importance of addressing doubts C. The effects of stereotype threat D. The power of “wise interventions” 【答案】32. A 33. C 34. B 35. For 15-year-old Daniel, summer usually meant bike rides, basketball games, and long afternoons at the park with his friends. But this year felt different — quieter, somehow. Daniel’s neighbor, Mr. Wagner, had always been a big part of the neighborhood. He was the kind of adult kids actually liked to be around. Every winter, he helped clear snow off the sidewalks, even when no one asked. In the summer, he set up a sprinkler (洒水器) in his front yard for the kids to run through and handed out orange and grape juice from a little cooler. When Daniel hurt his knee trying to learn a skateboard trick, it was Mr. Wagner who cleaned the cut and covered it up. He even helped Daniel with his math homework once when he was stuck before a test. He didn’t have kids of his own, but he treated every child on the street like family. That was why Daniel started to worry when he didn’t see Mr. Wagner outside anymore. No more chats, no more afternoon waves. Then one afternoon, an ambulance pulled into Mr. Wagner’s driveway. Daniel watched from his window, his heart sinking. Later that evening, Daniel’s parents told him that Mr. Wagner had a serious sickness. His condition had worsened recently, and he now needed a wheelchair to get around — but there was no ramp (坡道) at his house, just three high steps leading to the front door. The next day, Daniel and his friends took turns visiting Mr. Wagner. They brought him books from the library, helped water his garden, and even walked his dog. But Daniel knew that wasn’t enough. That evening, he gathered his friends under a big apple tree. “Mr. Wagner has done so much for us,” Daniel said firmly. “It’s our turn to help him.” The others nodded. That’s when the idea came — they would build him a ramp. Paragraph 1: Building the ramp wasn’t easy. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: After a full week of hard work, the ramp was finally ready. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】范文 Building the ramp wasn’t easy. None of them had built anything before, but their determination to help Mr. Wagner kept them going. They watched tutorial videos online, asked their parents how to measure, cut, and fasten wood, and borrowed tools from neighbors. Under the hot sun, they worked with sweat rolling down their faces, learning through trial and error. They accepted Mr. Wagner’s orange and grape juice but refused his suggestion to take a break. Every afternoon, the sounds of tools mixed with laughter, turning their street into the liveliest place. After a full week of hard work, the ramp was finally ready. Mr. Wagner came to the door in his wheelchair. Slowly, he rolled onto the ramp and down into the yard. For the first time in weeks, he was outside again. He looked at the kids, his eyes shining. He told them he had been feeling lonely, but now, thanks to the ramp, he felt part of the world again. That summer, the ramp became more than just a way for Mr. Wagner to get outside. It became a symbol of kindness, connection, and community. 词汇激活 行为类 ①变成:turn into/transform into ②拒绝:refuse/decline ③接受:accept/jump at 情绪类 ①寂寞的:lonely/doleful ②善行:kindness/good-deed 【点睛】[高分句型1] Under the hot sun, they worked with sweat rolling down their faces, learning through trial and error.(运用了现在分词作状语) [高分句型2] He looked at the kids, his eyes shining.(运用了独立主格结构) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 2025-2026学年度(上)高2026届1月一诊模拟 英语试题 (满分150分, 120分钟完成) 第I卷选择题(共95分) 第一部分听力(共两节,满分30分) 第一节(共5小题,每小题1.5分,满分7.5分) 听下面5段对话。 What type of music do the speakers both like? B Laurence Kemball-Cook’s office in London is a relaxed space, filled with informally dressed staff who all radiate the same air of youthful enthusiasm as their boss. C Precision agriculture is one of the most significant trends in modern farming. A. Intolerant. B. Doubtful. C. Unclear. D. Approving. D In his book Ordinary Magic, Stanford psychologist Gregory Walton reveals how small, evidence-based techniques termed “wise interventions” can create far-reaching personal transformation. People worried ‘If I do badly, will people judge my whole group?’That made it harder to do well on a tough test.” “But we can get ‘wise’ to psychological questions” Walton said. The power of “wise interventions” 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。 Do you find yourself making the same mistakes in your writing over and over again? ____36____ An error log is a personalized document that lists your mistakes and how to correct them. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
