Then Mr Grasshopper (蚱蜢) said, “I cannot jump or fly so far. And I cannot swim, either. If we still want to play together, the three of us must work together.”
Mr Grasshopper told them his idea. “Please, Mr Bird, fly to a tree and bring back a stick and throw (扔) it on the water by the river. While you and I stand on the stick, Mr Frog can swim to lead us across the river. And then we can stay together.”
Mr Grasshopper’s plan worked very well. Soon the three friends were together on the other side of the river and rested on the soft grass.

A study in 2018 found that 3.8 people per 100,000 died in traffic accidents in the UK. This death rate (率) was lower than that of any other country. So what did British drivers do to achieve this?
British people feel that waiting should be fair for everybody. If you are in a queue (队伍) of traffic, then don’t try to push past the cars in front of yours. This is called “jumping the queue”. You must wait for your turn, or people may get angry with you.
You must stop at the traffic lights when they are red. In many countries, it is OK to go past the red lights if you are turning a corner or if there isn’t any other traffic around. In the UK you could have a lot of trouble if you do this.
If another driver flashes (闪烁) his car’s lights at you, he is probably trying to tell you that he will let you go first. British people don’t like to use their car horn (喇叭) much and they think people who do so are rude.
If you get in an accident, don’t try to pay the police. The police in the UK never take money, and if you try to offer them some, you will be put into a British prison (监狱).
No wonder British roads can be called some of the safest in the world. If each driver around the world can follow the traffic rules as strictly as British drivers do, fewer traffic accidents will take place.
29.What does the underlined word “this” in Paragraph 1 refer to?
A.The low traffic accident death rate in the UK.
B.The best driving skills among British drivers.
C.The improvement in traffic rules in the UK.
D.The high number of traffic accidents in the UK.
30.According to the text, traffic rules in the UK include ________.
① waiting patiently in the queue ② stopping at the red light.
③ using flashes instead of car horn ④ offering money to the police if necessary
A.①②③ B.①③④ C.②③④ D.①②④
31.What might be the main reason for the few traffic accidents in the UK?
A.There aren’t many drivers in the UK.
B.British drivers follow the traffic rules strictly.
C.The number of traffic police is large on British roads.
D.High technology is used in British transportation.
32.How is the text organized? (①=Paragraph 1... )
A. B.
C. D.
【答案】29.A 30.A 31.B 32.C
根据“A study in 2018 found that 3.8 people per 100,000 died in traffic accidents in the UK. This death rate (率) was lower than that of any other country. So what did British drivers do to achieve this?” 故选A。
根据“You must wait for your turn…”可知,要在队伍中耐心等待;根据“You must stop at the traffic lights when they are red.”可知,红灯时必须停车;根据“British people don’t like to use their car horn (喇叭) much…”以及“If another driver flashes (闪烁)…he is probably trying to tell you that he will let you go first.”可知,他们倾向于用闪灯代替鸣笛来沟通;根据“The police in the UK never take money…” 故选A。
根据“If each driver around the world can follow the traffic rules as strictly as British drivers do, fewer traffic accidents will take place.”
C
Last Saturday morning, I was walking to the library when a small brown dog ran past me. It looked nervous (紧张的) with its tail between its legs. I called out to it, and it stopped, looking back at me with big, wet eyes. There was a collar (项圈) around its neck, but the name and phone number on it were not clear. So I knew it was lost. I decided to take it to the community center—they often help find owners for lost pets.
At the center, a worker took a photo of the dog and put it on the community noticeboard. She also asked me to leave my phone number, just in case the owner called.
That evening, my phone rang. It was a woman named Mrs. Green, the dog’s master. She sounded very happy and told me that her dog, Lucky, had run out when she opened the door that morning. She’d been looking for him everywhere. “I can’t thank you enough,” she said.
The next day, Mrs. Green came to my house with a box of cookies. Lucky was with her. Mrs. Green said, “You have a kind heart. Not everyone would stop to help a lost animal.”
That day, I learned something important: even a small act of kindness can make a big difference. It felt great to help Lucky find his way home.
33.The writer knew the dog was lost because ________.

C.To describe the experience of a funny dog named Lucky.
D.To show thanks to the community center for helping lost pets.

根据文章第一段“It looked nervous (紧张的) with its tail between its legs…There was a collar (项圈) around its neck, but the name and phone number on it were not clear. So I knew it was lost.”
根据文章第三段“It was a woman named Mrs. Green, the dog’s master. She sounded very happy and told me that her dog, Lucky” 可知,Mrs.
Green came to my house with a box of cookies”可知,Mrs. 故选 A。

An old saying goes, “When in Rome, do as the Romans do.” I learned its true meaning during my six-month exchange study in Russia last year.
One day, I invited Chinese friends to a local restaurant in Moscow. Excited after visiting Red Square, we chatted loudly to liven up the mood. But the waiter came over three times, asking us to speak softly. In China, hosts usually create lively atmospheres at meals, but in Russia, people keep quiet in public eateries to show politeness to others. That was my first taste of culture shock.
Later, more shocks followed: I often felt homesick for Chinese food, missing the spicy taste that was nowhere to be found in Moscow; school life was different too—Russian classmates preferred independent study, while we Chinese students liked group discussions.
These experiences taught me that cultural differences are part of life. Instead of feeling confused, we should face them with an open mind. After all, understanding different cultures makes our world richer.
37.How long did the exchange study last?
38.Where did the writer invite his Chinese friends?
39.How many culture shocks did the writer meet during his exchange study?
40.Do you think it’s important to learn about different cultures? Why or why not? (Write 30words or more)
37.For six months./Six months./For 6 months./6 months./For half a year./Half a year./It lasted for six months. 38.To a local restaurant in Moscow. 39.Three./3. 40.Yes, I think it’s important. Learning about different cultures can help us get on well with others. Besides, it can avoid misunderstandings when communicating with people from other countries. Finally, it also enriches our knowledge and makes the world more connected.
37.根据第一段“I learned its true meaning during my six-month exchange study in Russia last year.” For six months./Six months./For 6 months./6 months./For half a year./Half a year./It lasted for six months.
38.根据第二段“One day, I invited Chinese friends to a local restaurant in Moscow.” To a local restaurant in Moscow.
39.根据第二段“But the waiter came over three times, asking us to speak softly.”和第三段“Later, more shocks followed: I often felt homesick for Chinese food...school life was different too...” 故填Three./3.
Yes, I think it’s important. Learning about different cultures can help us get on well with others. Besides, it can avoid misunderstandings when communicating with people from other countries. Finally, it also enriches our knowledge and makes the world more connected.
How Junk Data Harms a Digital Mind
Do you love fast food? Burgers, chips and sweets are tasty, but if you only eat them, you will feel sick. Your brain and body need healthy food 41 vegetables, fish and nuts to grow strong. Believe it or not, Artificial Intelligence, or AI, is just like a human child. It needs “healthy food” 42 (stay) smart too.
Of course, AI doesn’t eat with a mouth. Instead, it “eats” information—reading millions of websites and books to learn about the world. Good information makes it 43 (intelligence): it can answer questions, write short texts or help with studies. This is like eating 44 healthy meal.
But there’s much junk (垃圾) data online—fake stories, wrong answers and silly 45 (message). A new study shows something very worrying. When AI reads too much of this junk, it gets a kind of “brain sickness”. Scientists 46 (do) three small tests so far, and all of them have shown this bad result 47 (clear).
The AI becomes much slower in thinking quickly. Its ability to think gets 48 (bad) than before. It starts to make mistakes 49 loses memory.
The first and worst thing: the damage is permanent (永久的). The 50 (two) problem is that this damage is irreversible (不可逆的)—humans can get better by eating well, but AI’s damage cannot be fixed. Even good books can’t help it recover.

Three friends were taking a trip to a beautiful village for their vacations. They were jumping together all the way. But they came to a river halfway. Mr Bird said he couldn’t jump over the river. He said he must fly across it and wait for them on the other side. Mr Frog said he couldn’t jump over the river, either. He said he must swim to cross it.

32.How is the text organized? (①=Paragraph 1... )

(Write 30words or more)
How Junk Data Harms a Digital Mind
