Hearing that, her parents were heartbroken. But after crying, they still tried to teach her lots of things. Some easy things, like opening a book or putting up the hands, are difficult for Xu. She has to use her head, mouth and hands to do these things.
When she started learning to write, she couldn’t even take a pen at first. But after hard work, she could finally write about 500 Chinese characters (汉字) before she went to school.
Thanks to her parents, Xu is a sunny girl. “If we can’t make her live longer, we can make her life wider (更宽的)” said Xu’s father. They travelled across China and more than 20 other countries all over the world.

Why do some people look happier than others? The good news is that you may be one of them if you follow these habits of happy people from my book Find Your Happiness.
Make possible goals. Happy people are great goal makers. They work hard for their goals every day. Ask yourself if you are making possible goals and if you can achieve them by working hard.
Don’t use the word “luck”. When you look at happy people, you may say, “They are so lucky.” But in fact, the word “luck” is not in their dictionaries. Instead, they believe that confidence brings great results.
Don’t try to win in an argument (争吵). Happy people are busy making their goals come true. They understand that spending time fighting with others takes them away from what they care about most. They love hearing people talk about their ideas, but they won’t spend time trying to force (逼迫) people to accept their ideas.
Try to look farther. Happy people don’t spend much time thinking about happiness. They live for now and enjoy their life. Happy people have difficulties too, but they see them as chances to learn more and grow better.
Want to be a really happy person? Follow these habits and try to change yourself into what you wish to be like.
47.How does the writer start Paragraph 1?

Do you often play with your phone before bedtime? Do you like playing games with your friends online? According to a study, it will be difficult for us to sleep well when we look at the screens at night. In the evening, our bodies make melatonin (褪黑素). It can help us feel sleepy and relaxed. And it’s an important part of our sleep cycle (周期). However, our phone screens stop that cycle from working well.
Why do we say that? That is because phones, computers and TVs can make blue light. The blue light stops our bodies from making melatonin. Even just a little blue light can affect us. Sleep is so important. How do we get a good sleep? Here is some advice for you.
*Take a warm shower or read a book.

Exams and tests are common in our lives. Most of the time, we really hope to do well, so we might feel stressed. Sometimes, we don’t feel like eating or have trouble sleeping. But experts tell us that we should make smart choices to stay healthy while getting ready for exams.
Lots of us drink coffee or energy drinks to help us study late into the night. But these drinks can stop us from falling asleep, and sleep is super important for everyone. Without enough sleep, we may feel tired and can’t focus well during the day.
Teachers always tell students to make a study plan. When we have a plan, we can decide when to study and when to take breaks. This way, we don’t have to stay up late studying. Studying late makes us feel tired and grumpy the next day.
Some of us choose fast food to save time, but experts say healthy snacks are much better. We can eat nuts, enjoy fresh fruit, have some crunchy (脆的) vegetables, eat eggs, or have a piece of fish. And remember to drink plenty of water! We should also find time to exercise. Taking a walk or going for a run helps us relax and think more clearly. It can even make our study better.
If you feel very stressed, don’t keep it to yourself. It’s a good idea to ask a doctor for help. Doctors can give us useful advice to feel better.

Do you often play with your phone before bedtime? Do you like playing games with your friends online? According to a study, it will be difficult for us to sleep well when we look at the screens at night. In the evening, our bodies make melatonin (褪黑素). It can help us feel sleepy and relaxed.
