Accidents can happen unexpectedly in our daily life. Mastering first aid skills can help us deal with them quickly and properly. Here are some basic guidelines,which may protect ourselves and others at times.
Getting a Burn
• Run cool water over the burn for 10~20 minutes.
• Take off any clothing near the burn.
• Cover the burn with a clean bandage or cloth.
Having a Fever
• Try to keep patients cool and make sure they drink lots of water.
• Give them medicine to lower the temperature.
Bleeding
• Press on the wound with a clean cloth or bandage until the bleeding stops.
• If the bleeding doesn’t stop,tie a bandage around the area above the wound.
• Keep the wound raised if possible.
Choking (窒息)
• If they can cough,talk,or breathe,don’t do anything—let them try to get the thing out by themselves.
• If they can’t cough,talk,or breathe,stand behind them and put your hand just above their belly button(肚脐),and then give five quick push-ups.
• If that doesn’t work,do five forceful blows(猛击) on their back,and then five more pushes.
• Keep going until the thing comes out.

The traditional Chinese solar calendar divides the year into 24 solar terms(节气). End of Heat(处暑),the 14th solar term of the year,begins on Aug. 22ed,2024 and ends on Sept. 6th.
End of Heat means that most parts in China are getting rid of(摆脱) the hot summer and entering autumn. End of Heat is also the busy season for farmers.
Here are five things to know about End of Heat.
1 In China,regions beyond the Great Wall will enter autumn in early September. People can enjoy the scenery as it changes gradually from summer to autumn.
2 A saying goes,“People tend to feel sleepy in spring,doze in summer and feel tired in autumn.” When it cools during End of Heat,many people will feel tired,which is called “autumn weariness”. It is a sign that the human body needs rest. Get enough sleep,do more exercise and keep plants indoor to help.
3 When the End of Heat comes,summer heat is gone. Clouds in the sky scatter(分散) around forming different shapes. There is a saying goes,“Enjoying the clouds of various forms in July and August (lunar month).”
Eating Duck. Duck has a sweet flavor and according to Chinese traditional medicine it has a “cool” nature. A folk tradition is to eat duck during the End of Heat period. There are many recipes for cooking duck such as roast duck,cooked duck with lemon and smoked duck.
4 The festival is held on the day when the fishing ban ends and fishermen can start fishing again. Because of high temperatures in the sea,stocks of fish remain and become mature. People can enjoy many kinds of seafood during this period.
