Whales are the biggest animals in the world. They are quiet and friendly. They live happily in the sea. But some countries kill whales. Japan is one of them. Japan is a small country. Many people go fishing in Japan. Some schools even cook whale meat for students.
Whales are important to the sea. They swim up and down. They bring up things for other sea animals and plants to eat. Many animals and plants live on them. When whales die (死亡), small animals can eat them for about one hundred years.
But now, whales are in great danger because they don’t have much food to eat, many whales die. Another reason is that whales are killed by people. Many people kill whales for money. Fishermen from Japan, Norway and other countries kill whales. Every year, they kill around 1,500 large whales. Some whales like blue whales have died out because of killing. At the same time, they are in great danger. How can we help them?

Answer the questions. (根据以下内容回答问题)
Digital technology is making a big difference in emergency situations. One example is the smart watch, which can keep an eye on users’ health. If it detects an abnormal heart rate, it will automatically call the emergency services and send the user’s location. This has saved many lives, especially for elderly people living alone.
Another useful technology is speech recognition. It helps the disabled communicate more easily. For example, people who cannot type can use speech recognition to send messages or control electronic devices. This technology is also used in customer service, where AI systems can understand and respond to users’ questions quickly.
3D printers are changing how things are made. In some hospitals, 3D printers are used to create custom-made parts for patients, such as artificial hands. This makes treatment more effective and reduces the cost of medical care.
Digital payment methods are also becoming more popular. With digital wallets and QR codes, people can pay for things without carrying cash (现金). This is not only convenient but also safer, as it reduces the risk of losing money. However, it’s important to protect digital wallets with strong passwords to prevent theft.

As a child, Alain Robert was afraid of heights. One day, when he was 12, he returned home from school. At the front door of his building, he looked for his keys. He didn’t have them. It was 3:30 pm and his parents worked until 6:00 pm. Alain looked at his apartment on the eighth floor. He saw an open window. He closed his eyes and imagined himself climbing the building. When he opened his eyes, he told himself, “I can do it.” Fifteen minutes later, he was in his house and his fear of heights was gone.
Today, Alain Robert still climbs buildings. In 2003, he climbed a building in London dressed as Spiderman to advertise the movie. In 2004, he climbed Taipei 101 (one of the tallest buildings in the world at that time) and in 2011 he climbed the Burj Khalifa Tower in Dubai. To reach the top of a building, Robert uses only his hands and special shoes. To climb the Burj Khalifa Tower, though, he was made to wear safety ropes.
Robert climbs as a hobby. He also does it to make money for charity—for children and the homeless. Climbing is his passion. Although many climbing accidents have left him seriously disabled, he has become one of the best solo climbers in the world. When he climbs, he wants to send a message to people. If you have a dream—something you really want to do—it can become real. But you must be brave and keep trying. If something bad happens, don’t give up. Close your eyes and tell yourself, “I can do it”.
1.Alain Robert is afraid of heights, isn’t he?
2.Why did Alain climb a building in London dressed as Spiderman?
3.What did Robert use when he climbed the Burj Khalifa Tower in Dubai?
4.Robert climbs for two reasons. What are they?
【答案】1.No, he isn’t. 2.To advertise the movie. 3.He used only his hands, special shoes and safety ropes. 4.As a hobby and to make money for charity./As a hobby and to make money for charity for children and the homeless.

4.根据“Robert climbs as a hobby. He also does it to make money for charity—for children and the homeless.”可知,他攀爬的两个原因是爱好和为慈善筹款——为儿童和无家可归者捐款。故填As a hobby and to make money for charity./As a hobby and to make money for charity for children and the homeless.
Curiosity is something that helps us learn new things, discover exciting ideas, and solve problems. But curiosity can also cause distractions (分散注意力的事) or lead to trouble if we’re not careful. Emma and Mike are sharing their thoughts on curiosity. Let’s take a look at their different views.
Student 1: Emma
Curiosity is truly a fantastic force, especially when it comes to learning and innovation (创新). I believe it’s the key to reaching our full potential (潜能) and exploring beyond what we already know. In the classroom, curiosity motivates (激励) me to ask questions, explore topics deeply, and develop critical thinking skills. For example, when we’re studying something challenging in science or literature, my curiosity drives me to dig deeper, which not only helps me understand better but also brings me new ideas.
Outside of school, curiosity is the driving force behind most technological advancements and creative breakthroughs (突破). Think about the scientific discoveries we hear about in the news—those don’t happen without a curious mind. It’s curiosity that pushes people to ask “What if?” and “How can we make this better?” It’s amazing how curiosity can turn into something that benefits everyone.
Student 2: Mike
Curiosity isn’t always good, especially when it’s used for the wrong reasons. I’ve noticed that sometimes people use curiosity to gossip (说闲话) or to get information about others in a way that’s harmful. It’s like when someone is curious about another person’s private life or mistakes, and then they start spreading that information, making others feel left out or uncomfortable.
In school, I’ve seen how curiosity can lead to things like bullying (欺负) or social exclusion (排斥), where people get curious about who’s in or out of the group, and then leave someone out or make them feel bad about themselves. I think curiosity, when it’s motivated by wanting to harm others, is really dangerous. We need to be careful about how we use our curiosity and try to make sure it’s always about learning and growth, not tearing people down (诋毁某人).
1.What does Emma think curiosity helps us do in class?
2.When does curiosity drive Emma to dig deeper?
3.According to Mike, curiosity isn’t always good, is it?
4.Why does Mike believe curiosity about others’ private lives can be harmful?
5.In Mike’s opinion, how can we use curiosity wisely?
6.How can you balance curiosity’s benefits with its potential (可能的) risks?
【答案】1.It helps us ask questions, explore topics deeply, and develop critical thinking skills. 2.When she is studying something challenging in science or literature. 3.No, it isn’t. 4.Because it can lead to the spreading of information, making others feel left out or uncomfortable. 5.By making sure it’s always about learning and growth, not tearing people down. 6.We can maintain curiosity but explore and understand things in a responsible and respectful manner.

3.根据“Curiosity isn’t always good, especially when it’s used for the wrong reasons.”可知,Mike认为好奇心不总是好的,尤其是当它被用于错误的理由时。故填No, it isn’t.
4.根据“It’s like when someone is curious about another person’s private life or mistakes, and then they start spreading that information, making others feel left out or uncomfortable.”可知,Mike认为对他人私人生活的好奇心可能是有害的,因为这会导致信息传播,使他人感到被排斥或不舒服。故填Because it can lead to the spreading of information, making others feel left out or uncomfortable.

On the afternoon of Oct 14th, 2025, in a lecture hall at China Women’s University, female leaders from different backgrounds and generations came together for the opening ceremony of the Global Center for Women’s Capacity Building. The ceremony was held as a side event of the Global Leaders’ Meeting on Women. This new global project aims to help women and girls to become leaders in the future.
Sima Sami Bahous, director of UN Women, gave a speech at the gathering. “Women and girls are change agents, leaders and the great engine of progress.” she said.
Other leaders also shared their valuable thoughts. Maimona Khalid from Sudan offered practical advice: “Educate yourself, learn about the international community, understand the world,” she said.
“If you have a chance to travel, travel. If you don’t have a chance, now this is the internet era, so learn about other cultures and civilizations, know how women are suffering in other countries, and recognize the gifts you have here in your country and work on yourself,” she added.
Song Tingting, vice president of the video-sharing platform Kuaishou Technology, described the meeting as a “window to the future” for young women. As a successful woman in the tech industry, Song pointed out that digital technology creates new opportunities for young women’s growth. In the past, leadership often required a formal title, but today, young women can build a strong personal brand and gain influence by sharing professional and valuable content online. However, Song also acknowledged the digital gender gap. This means women often have less access to technology. She said. “To solve these issues is a long-term and systematic effort that requires the collaboration of governments, businesses, and society as a whole.” She also stressed that the most crucial factor for women is “having passion and believing that I can do this”.
To show the power of digital skills, Song shared the inspiring story of Mizang Zhuoma, a 28-year-old Tibetan woman. She once earned very little by collecting mushrooms. By using short videos and live streaming, she started helping her village sell local products, improving their yearly sales to millions of yuan. Her story, which was even featured in Time magazine, proves that digital skills can offer women dignity and great opportunities for development.

The Power of Teamwork in Sports
Sports are a great way to learn about teamwork. Whether it’s a basketball game, a soccer match, or a relay race, working together as a team is essential for success.
Take basketball, for example. A basketball team has five players on the court. Each player has a different role: the point guard controls the ball and sets up plays, the shooting guard scores points, the small forward is versatile and can do many things, the power forward rebounds and defends, and the center is tall and blocks shots. If each player only thinks about their own performance, the team will not do well. But if they pass the ball to each other, help defend, and work together, they have a better chance of winning.
In a relay race, teamwork is even more important. Each runner has to pass a baton to the next runner. If the pass is not smooth, the team might lose the race. So, the runners practice passing the baton again and again until they can do it perfectly. They also support each other, cheering each other on during the race.
Soccer is another sport where teamwork is key. The players have to communicate with each other on the field, telling each other where the opponents are and where to pass the ball. They have to trust each other, knowing that their teammates will be there to help. A single player can’t win a soccer game alone; it takes the whole team working together.
Teamwork in sports teaches us many important lessons. It teaches us to communicate with others, to trust our teammates, and to work towards a common goal. It also teaches us that winning is not everything; what’s important is how we play the game and how we support each other.
So, the next time you watch or play a sport, remember the power of teamwork. It’s what makes a good team great.

“Hello! I said to myself today that if I did five handstands, it would be an excellent year, and I did!” Thus began the 41-volume (and counting) diary of my life. It was 1984 and I was 14, feeling my way through adolescence (青少年时期). Most of the diaries have lain unread since I wrote them. Yet every morning. I hold my pen and write up yesterday.
You pay more attention to the world when you know you’ll be writing it up. I recorded a pony-tailed metalworker from Canada who shared the same singers with me and a middle-aged woman in a waiting room who described to me her lively garden. I want to write about even the dullest day because the ordinary things of today will be tomorrow’s history.
The past still lives on in those pages, and I can feel it closing over me if I look back on them. Recently, I read every day of my university years. It was like reading a novel about someone else. I read of difficult situations I no longer recalled and of dramas whose endings I had forgotten. Long-lost friends danced to a Swedish pop group in my student room, and long-dead voices spoke again. When I closed the diary, I felt like I went into a different century, a different home and a different family, and surprised at the years that had brought me here.
It’s a weighty business recording a life, yet it has taught me not to take myself too seriously. When painful moments are written down, I can more easily let them go. Seeing life as a story with an unknown number of chapters to write is both exciting and frightening. I plan to record the days until I can no longer hold a pen. The only part of the story I’ll never get to write will be the ending.
1.When did the writer start writing diaries?

二、押题预测
Grandma Li is over seventy years old. She has lived in Beijing all her life. She is being interviewed about life today and in the past.
What was your life like in the past?
My family lived in a small house. There were no electric lights, only candles (蜡烛). My father was a postman, and he often worked for long hours. My mum was a farm girl before she met my father. Then she didn’t go out to work. There were five children in my family.
I still remember the family meals. The food was simple. We could only eat meat once or twice a year. I didn’t go to school because my parents couldn’t afford (承担得起) it.
How has your life changed?
Transport and travel are easier today. When I was young, I went here and there on foot or sometimes by bike. Now I can take the bus everywhere, and there’s also the underground for people to take. And quite a few people can take a plane to anywhere in the world. The only thing I don’t like, though, is that there’s so much more traffic.
Of course, we didn’t have televisions when I was a child. I really enjoy watching TV today in my free time. There are so many good programmes. But some of the shows are too noisy for me, so I don’t like them.
Generally speaking, I think life is much better today. We eat better and we live longer.

In 50 years, the world will be very different from what it is now, thanks to the fast development of science and technology. This is not just a prediction (预测) but a possible future based on today’s tech trends. Let’s take a look at two amazing changes that will shape people’s lives.
First, AI-powered smart schools will replace traditional classrooms in many places. There will be fewer paper books and more digital learning platforms, so students won’t need to carry heavy schoolbags anymore. AI teachers will not only give lessons but also check students’ homework in seconds and make personalized learning plans for each student. If a student has trouble with math, the AI teacher will provide extra exercises right away. Besides, there will be more free time for students because AI will finish boring tasks like copying notes. However, teachers won’t lose their jobs—they will play a part in guiding students’ emotional growth and creative thinking, since AI can’t understand human feelings.
Second, some people will live in near-earth space stations to avoid the overcrowded cities and serious pollution on Earth. These space stations will have smart systems that control the air, temperature and food supply automatically. There will be less air pollution and more green spaces inside the stations, and people will even be able to grow vegetables with special lights. Robots will do most of the housework, so people will have more time to enjoy their hobbies or learn new skills. But living in space won’t be easy—people will have to take special training to get used to the low-gravity environment, and they must learn to work with robots and AI systems well.
Dr. Lu, a future technology researcher, says, “Technology will make our lives better, but it also brings challenges. To be ready for tomorrow, people should accept changes first and keep learning new knowledge all the time. Only in this way can we make good use of new technology instead of being controlled by it.”
1.What will replace traditional classrooms in many places in 50 years?
2.Why will students have more free time in AI-powered smart schools?
3.What is one reason some people will choose to live in near-earth space stations?
4.According to Dr. Lu, what should people do to be ready for the future with new technology?
5.Do you think AI can completely take the place of human teachers? Please give one reason based on the passage.
【答案】1.AI-powered smart schools. 2.Because AI will finish boring tasks like copying notes for them. 3.To avoid the overcrowded cities and serious pollution on Earth./ Because there will be less air pollution and more green spaces inside the stations. 4.People should accept changes first and keep learning new knowledge all the time. 5.No. Because AI can’t understand human feelings. Dear Mrs Wu,
I love video games and I develop my own games. It’s my favourite hobby. My parents were very encouraging at first. The day I started secondary school, they changed their minds. They now suggest that I give up video games altogether because studies should be my priority (优先考虑的事项). What’s more, they don’t even allow me to go out with my friends at night. Every time they do that, I act like I don’t care. But in fact, I am quite angry and upset because they simply have no respect for me and my needs. What can I do?
Sincerely yours,
Jason
Dear Jason,
You must be feeling very stressed these days. I’m glad you wrote to me for help. However, you should keep calm and talk to your parents about the benefits of your hobby. I can see why your parents are against video-gaming—it was seen as a useless pastime (娱乐活动) back in the time when your parents were young. The best idea may be to tell them that it is good training for new tech jobs like being a video game developer or drone photographer. Also, it is a good way to have a rest after a long school day. Try pointing out real-life examples to them to support your idea. Meanwhile, you should also make sure your hobby doesn’t get in the way of your school performance.
As for your parents’ not allowing you to go out with your friends, it may be a good idea to open up to them about your private life. For example, you can get along well with them. This may help them change their minds. Meanwhile, show them you are a responsible person who understands their worries, and will not let them down. If you can do this, I don’t believe they will be so hard on you. Remember, you mustn’t lose your cool, as that would be immature (不成熟的).Cheers!

Answer the questions (根据对话内容回答下列问题)
Emojis (表情符号) have become truly popular in recent years. In 2015, Oxford Dictionaries even chose an emoji as its word of the year. So, what exactly are emojis?
Emojis are little pictures used for ideas, expressing feelings and emotions. They are often seen in text messages and on the internet. The first emoji was created by a Japanese engineer in 1999. He named the little picture “emoji.” The name is made up of two Japanese words: “e” and “moji.” “E” means “picture” and “moji” means “character”.
Now, there are emojis for almost everything, such as food, sports and animals. These emojis are widely used in everyday life. Believe it or not, there are over six billion emojis being sent everyday!
So, why do people use emojis? When we talk, a lot of meaning is conveyed (传递) through our body language. However, the meaning can get lost in written language.
At the same time, they are in great danger. How can we help them?
1.Are whales quiet and friendly?
2.How long can small animals eat the whales when they die?
3.Why are many whales in great danger around the world?

1.What will a smart watch do if it detects an abnormal heart rate?
2.How does speech recognition help the disabled?
3.What are 3D printers used to do in some hospitals?
4.What are the advantages of digital payment methods?
5.What should people do to protect their digital wallets?

2.The writer never writes about uninteresting days, does she?
3.How did the writer feel when reading her university years?
4.Why does the writer love keeping diaries so much?
5.What does the writer mean by saying “The only part of the story I’ll never get to write will be the ending.”?
Tony lived in a small town. He made a living by painting portraits. One day, a rich man asked Tony to paint a portrait for him and promised to pay 10,000 dollars.
After a week, the rich man came to find Tony for his painting. When he saw his face in the painting, the rich man suddenly thought to himself, “The man in the painting is me. If I don’t buy this painting, no one else will buy it.” So he said to Tony, “What a terrible portrait! It doesn’t look like me at all! I won’t pay you anything.”
Hearing this, Tony’s face turned red and shouted loudly, “You can’t do that! I spent time painting this portrait with all my heart!”
“Well, if you say so, I will only pay 1,000 dollars for it. Will you sell it?” said the rich man.
Tony said firmly, “No! I will never be humiliated (被侮辱) in this way!”
After that, Tony worked hard day and night. Years passed, and the young man finally became well known in the art world.
The rich man forgot about Tony and what happened between them. But one day, a friend came, “Oh! I was looking for you! I just visited an art show. You know what? There is a painting in the central place with no price. 4 The painting’s title is ‘Cheater’.”

Now scientists are learning how to use science and technology to make schools better. In the future, there will be a new kind of school which is connected (连接) with libraries, museums and companies. This new kind of school is different from our present schools. Scientists will give talks through the Internet. What’s more, this new kind of school will develop subjects that students can study on the Internet. Students can listen to talks, have lessons, read books, watch learning videos and do their homework on computers. It’s very convenient. Also, parents can check their children’s study through the Internet. In this way, they can know about their children’s study easily and quickly.
Is that a dream? No. There are already a lot of schools using the Internet to give lessons. Those schools are connected to the Internet. Everyone can read books and study at home, at school or in the office. So children don’t have to go to school. How different schools will be! Life is changing and schools will be changed as well. But there is one thing for sure: schools will be better and better. It’s exciting to think about this new kind of school. I hope it will come true one day.
1.What will the new kind of school be connected with?
2.Who will give talks through the Internet?
3.How many things can students do on computers according to the passage?
4.What can parents do through the Internet?

Mrs Wu
1.What is Jason’s favourite hobby?
2.Why do Jason’s parents change their attitude towards Jason’s hobby now?
3.How does Jason feel when his parents stop him from going out with his friends?
4.According to Mrs Wu, what are the benefits of Jason’s hobby?
5.After reading Mrs Wu’s letter of advice, what will Jason probably do next? (At least three points)

With emojis, people are able to express such meaning even when they can’t see each other. Besides, people use emojis when they find it hard to explain or describe something in words.
Many people see emojis as the language of the future. Are you fond of using this new language skill?
1.Oxford Dictionaries once chose an emoji as its word of the year, didn’t they?
2.What are emojis?
