On Dec 4, 2024, Chunjie was included in UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. While this recognition marks a significant milestone for Chinese culture, it also brings up again an ongoing debate: What is the most appropriate English translation of Chunjie? For decades, Chunjie has been widely translated as “Spring Festival” in English, a term now adopted by UNESCO in its lowercase form. Beyond this, two other English translations are currently in use: Chinese New Year and Lunar New Year. All the three terms are documented in major Chinese-English dictionaries, with “Spring Festival” being the most favored, followed by “Chinese New Year”. Despite its widespread use, some people believe that calling it “Lunar New Year” might not fully reflect its deep cultural roots in China, as the Chinese calendar is a lunisolar calendar (阴阳历), which combines elements of both the lunar and solar cycles. This means it’s not purely based on the lunar phases, making the term “Lunar New Year” scientifically inaccurate. Language changes quickly, and dictionaries may not always be up-to-date. However, large language databases like the NOW (News on the Web) Corpus can track real-time language use. As of January 2025, the Corpus shows that “Chinese New Year” is the most frequently used term in the English-speaking world, followed by “Lunar New Year,” with “Spring Festival” being used less often. This reflects the differences in translation preferences between China and the West. Now that the Spring Festival is recognized by UNESCO, it is time to reconsider its English translation. It is suggested that Chunjie be used as the primary term to emphasize its cultural uniqueness, supported by “Spring Festival” for familiarity and “Chinese New Year” when necessary for international understanding. This approach respects Chinese cultural identity while meeting the needs of global communication. After all, language is not just a tool for communication; it also carries culture, history, and identity. Four Treasures of the Study 文房四宝 Confucian philosophy 儒家思想 Taoist wisdom 道家智慧 (2)现代表达创新路径 cultural and creative products 文创产品 digital preservation 数字化保护 innovative design 创新设计 smart museum 智慧博物馆 e-lucky money 电子压岁钱 paper-cutting art installation 剪纸艺术装置 (3)文化价值与传播 cultural confidence 文化自信 cultural identity 文化认同 heritage passing-down 遗产传承 symbolic meaning 象征意义 humanistic value 人文价值 emotional connection 情感联结 cultural roots 文化根基 tradition-meets-modernity 传统与现代交融 【话题句子积累】 Paper-cutting art, once a folk craft, now appears in modern art exhibitions worldwide.(曾是民间工艺的剪纸艺术,如今亮相于全球现代艺术展。) The classical garden’s design concepts have inspired many modern architectural projects in China.(古典园林的设计理念已启发中国诸多现代建筑项目。) Tomb-Sweeping Day has evolved into a time for both honoring ancestors and enjoying spring outings.(清明节已演变为既祭祖又踏青的节日。) The digital preservation of paper-cutting ensures that this skill won’t be lost even as fewer craftsmen remain.(剪纸的数字化保护确保即便工匠减少,这项技艺也不会失传。) Live-streaming platforms provide a low-cost way for folk artists to showcase their skills to a global audience.(直播平台为民间艺人提供了低成本渠道,向全球观众展示技艺。) Traditional festivals gain new vitality by integrating modern activities like charity runs and film screenings.(传统节日通过融入慈善跑、电影放映等现代活动焕发新活力。) Preserving traditional culture while embracing innovation helps maintain our cultural identity in a globalized world.(在拥抱创新的同时保护传统文化,有助于在全球化时代坚守文化认同。) Sharing stories of cultural heritage builds a bridge of understanding between China and other countries.(分享文化遗产故事,搭建起中国与世界的理解桥梁。) The success of cultural innovations demonstrates the charm and adaptability of Chinese civilization.(文化创新的成功彰显了中华文明的魅力与适应性。) Experiencing traditional culture through modern tech makes heritage more accessible to the younger generation.(通过现代科技体验传统文化,让遗产更易被年轻一代接受。) When traditional elements meet modern design, they create works that are both culturally meaningful and aesthetically pleasing.(当传统元素遇上现代设计,便造就出既有文化内涵又具美感的作品。) (建议用时:40分钟) 题型01 阅读理解 (1) (2025·北京朝阳·一模)UNESCO is inviting teams and individuals from Asia and the Pacific to submit case studies on the roles and risks of intangible cultural heritage (ICH) (非物质文化遗产) in the context of climate change. A key section of the Silk Roads is the Chang’an-Tianshan corridor(走廊), which stretches over a distance of around 5,000 kilometres through China, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, covering a total of 8,700 kilometres of trade routes. The three countries jointly pursued an application for UNESCO World Heritage (遗产) status which contained detailed research on the 33 sites along the corridor. This made history as the first successful multinational World Heritage application. The starting point of the corridor and the entire Silk Roads network is Xi’an, in Shanxi Province. Further west on the Silk Roads, the geography gradually changes from wild deserts to high, snow-capped mountains to vast grasslands as the routes pass through the Tianshan Mountains and emerge in the valleys of Central Asia. Although the Chang’an-Tianshan corridor of the Silk Roads ends here, the network continues westwards until it reaches the Mediterranean. The corridor began to develop in the 2nd century. Assigned by the emperor, the ambassador Zhang Qian journeyed from Chang’an to Central Asia, seeking to build bridges between the Han Dynasty and the Western Regions. Following Zhang’s efforts, trade routes took shape and relationships were strengthened between the major powers of the time, with the routes network reaching as far as the Roman Empire. Economic activities along the routes network were not limited to trade in silk. They contributed many other items to the marketplace of goods. The routes were busy with camels carrying loads of goods and businessmen selling everything imaginable. China’s exports included silk, porcelain, ironware and tea, while horses, jewellery, spices and grapes were all imported over vast distances from the West. In addition to trade exchange, the network served as a bridge for cultural exchange which shaped the evolution of science, art, technology and many other areas in societies along the network. Astronomy and mathematics were introduced to China from India and Arabia; important Chinese inventions such as papermaking and printing were brought to the West. All of these activities contributed to a great age of expansion as trade and cultural exchanges gave people access to new goods, knowledge and ideas. These routes connected Eastern and Western civilizations, which achieved a shared development. The addition of the Chang’an-Tianshan corridor to the UNESCO World Heritage List is a milestone in recognition of the Silk Roads as a crucial part of humanity’s common heritage. 1.The key section of the Silk Roads is________. A.It helped to change the wild deserts to grasslands. B.It was recognized by the UNESCO as China’s heritage. C.It speeded up the development of the countries involved. D.It started a trade competition between countries along the way. (3) (23-24高二上·北京顺义·期末) Young German Man Studies TCM in China Wu Ming is a young German born after 1995. Wu is a big fan of Chinese culture, such as the Shaolin kung fu, a traditional Chinese martial art. He has been learning traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) since 2016, almost seven years. Now he is studying for his master’s degree at Henan University of Chinese Medicine. As he thought some diseases can’t be treated thoroughly with Western medicine, he decided to dig into TCM. Wu came to Central China’s Henan province in 2015, where a strong TCM culture can be enjoyed. After one-year of learning Chinese language, he started to learn Chinese medicine. “TCM is one of the best-protected aspects of Chinese culture”, said Wu. He hopes to solve problems and understand Chinese culture deeply by learning TCM. In the early stages, Wu always tasted some Chinese herbal medicine by himself, just like Shennong, a character in ancient Chinese stories, who tasted most of the herbal medicine himself. To overcome difficulties in communicating, he also learned and practiced Chinese, especially the Henan dialect (方言), as his teachers, schoolmates, and even some patients speak in Henan dialect in their daily conversations. Although sometimes he still has trouble telling the difference between Mandarin (普通话) and the dialect, he can use the Henan dialect to communicate with others. Studying TCM also changed Wu’s mind and lifestyle. He used to be addicted to electronic devices and stay up late every night, trapped in this fast but unhealthy daily life. But now, according to the Yin-Yang principle in TCM, he lives a balanced and peaceful life, practicing good habits such as drinking tea and reading ancient books. In Wu’s opinion, there’s no big difference between China and Western countries. “We are the same. Misunderstanding comes from being out of touch”, said Wu. He plans to run a traditional Chinese clinic (诊所) in China or Germany after graduation, which could serve as a bridge between the two countries and attract public attention to TCM and its culture. 1.What is Wu’s purpose of studying TCM? A.To get his master’s degree. B.To prove his learning abilities. C.To test some Chinese herbal medicine. D.To better treat diseases and understand Chinese culture. 2.How did Wu overcome difficulties in daily conversations? A.By reading ancient Chinese books. B.By learning and practicing the Henan dialect. C.By asking his teachers, schoolmates and patients for advice. D.By studying the difference between Mandarin and the Henan dialect. 3.What can we learn about Wu’s lifestyle after his studying TCM? A.He stays up late every night. B.He lives a fast and healthy lifestyle. C.He is addicted to electronic devices. D.He develops a good habit of drinking tea. 4.In Wu’s opinion, misunderstanding comes from_________. A.lacking communication B.language barrier C.being different from one another D.mind and lifestyle 5.According to the passage, which word can best describe Wu Ming? A.Gentle. B.Honest. C.Passionate. D.Outgoing. (4) (24-25高三上·北京·开学考试)Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), along with Chinese Kungfu and Peking Opera, is one of China’s cultural symbols recognized worldwide. It is a gem of Chinese civilization, and it has also made great contributions to world civilization by improving people’s health and promoting social progress. There used to be a debate in China about whether TCM or Western medicine was better, and arguments can still be heard today. But actually, TCM and western medicine are two different medical theoretical systems that can not replace each other. In some aspects such as surgery, Western medicine is better than TCM, but in other areas, such as recovery after surgery and treatment of chronic (慢性的) diseases, TCM is more effective. This is way some Chinese hospitals provide both TCM and Western medicine treatments. A combination of both has been accepted by many Chinese people as the most effective treatment. Today, promoting and innovating TCM has become a consensus (共识) in Chinese society. The Chinese government has formulated policies to support the development and innovation of TCM, with a view to establishing a Chinese healthcare development model paying equal attention to both. The supportive policies of the Chinese Government will focus on three aspects. The first is the strengthening of TCM services in medical institutions. The second is to apply Internet technology to TCM management, including setting up a database containing TCM electronic medical records and prescriptions (处方). The third is to give better play to the advantages of TCM, especially acupuncture (针灸) and naprapathy (推拿). The function of TCM in disease prevention and recovery will also be enhanced. As long as TCM keeps its core strengths and respects the rules of development and innovation, it will surely be able to maintain its vitality and bring more benefits to people in China and the world. 1.What advantage does Western medicine have over TCM? A.It is a symbol of national civilization. B.It is more successful in recovery after surgery. C.It is more effective in surgery. D.It is more effective in treating chronic diseases. 2.According to paragraph 4, which of the following aspects is not included in the Chinese government supports for TCM? A.It calls on the public to support TCM. B.It combines Internet Technology with TCM. C.It makes better use of the advantages of TCM. D.It increases TCM services in hospitals and medical centers. 3.What can be a suitable title for the text? A.TCM Beats Western Medicine. B.Chinese Government Promotes TCM. C.TCM is One of China's Cultural Symbols. D.TCM Breaks New Ground. 题型02 完形填空 (2025·北京海淀·一模)Last year, five homeless cats lived in the shadows in our neighborhood, silently asking for help. It has the power to bridge cultural gaps and foster understanding between nations. 1 Actually, culinary diplomacy is not a new concept. It has been practiced for centuries, with ancient civilizations using food as a means of establishing diplomatic relations. Today, it has developed into a more formalized practice, with governments recognizing its potential to build bridges and promote peace. 2 Food is deeply rooted in culture, and by sharing traditional dishes, countries can showcase their unique heritage and traditions. Through food, people can gain a deeper understanding of a nation’s history, values, and way of life. This exchange of culinary traditions can lead to a greater appreciation and respect for different cultures. Culinary diplomacy also provides a platform for dialogue between nations. 3 These gatherings create opportunities for people to engage in meaningful conversations. By breaking bread together, people can find common ground and establish connections that go beyond political differences. Furthermore, culinary diplomacy can have economic benefits for countries. By promoting their local cuisine, nations can attract tourists and boost their culinary tourism industry. 4 Additionally, culinary diplomacy can enhance a country’s soft power, as its cuisine becomes a symbol of its cultural richness and diversity. In recent years, several countries have embraced culinary diplomacy as a means of promoting their national cuisine and culture. Peru, for example, has successfully used culinary diplomacy to promote its cuisine. 5 Peru has taken advantage of this by hosting international food events and establishing culinary schools to train chefs. B (24-25高一下·北京大兴·期末)Chinese calligraphy, known as “Shūfǎ”, is a traditional art form that has been practiced for over 3,000 years. It involves writing Chinese characters with a brush, ink, and paper, emphasizing beauty, rhythm, and expressiveness. Unlike ordinary handwriting, calligraphy is considered a high form of artistic expression in China, reflecting the writer’s emotions and personality. 1 There are five major styles of Chinese calligraphy: Seal Script (Zhuàn shū, Clerical Script (Lìshū), Regular Script (Kǎishū), Running Script (Xíngshū), and Cursive Script(Cǎoshū). 2 For example, Regular Script is clear and structured, while Cursive Script is fluid and abstract. Calligraphers spend years mastering brush techniques, such as pressure control and stroke order. 3 It is closely linked to Chinese philosophy. The balance of black ink and white space symbolizes harmony, a key concept in traditional Chinese culture. Additionally, calligraphy has influenced other East Asian arts, such as Japanese and Korean ink painting. Today, calligraphy remains an important part of Chinese education and cultural heritage. Many people practice it to cultivate patience and mindfulness. 4 Museums and exhibitions often showcase ancient and modern calligraphic works, preserving this art for future generations. A.the Mediterranean B.Xi’an, in Shanxi Province C.Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan D.the Chang’an-Tianshan corridor 2.The underlined word “stretches” in Paragraph 1 is close in meaning to________. A.stands B.spreads C.moves D.flies 3.Zhang Qian travelled from Chang’an to Central Asia to________. A.export silk, porcelain, ironware and tea B.purchase horses, jewellery, spices and grapes C.seek help from the most powerful western countries D.build bridges between his country and other countries 4.What was the role of the Silk Roads according to the passage? A.It helped to change the wild deserts to grasslands. B.It was recognized by the UNESCO as China’s heritage. C.It speeded up the development of the countries involved. D.It started a trade competition between countries along the way. 根据文中第一段提到“A key section of the Silk Roads is the Chang’an-Tianshan corridor…” 根据划线词上文“A key section of the Silk Roads is the Chang’an-Tianshan corridor”和下文“over a distance of around 5,000 kilometres through China, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, covering a total of 8,700 kilometres of trade routes.” 根据文中第三段最后一句“Following Zhang’s efforts, trade routes took shape and relationships were strengthened between the major powers of the time, with the routes network reaching as far as the Roman Empire.” 根据第五段“In addition to trade exchange, the network served as a bridge for cultural exchange which shaped the evolution of science, art, technology and many other areas in societies along the network. Astronomy and mathematics were introduced to China from India and Arabia; important Chinese inventions such as papermaking and printing were brought to the West.(除了贸易交流之外,网络还是文化交流的桥梁,它塑造了网络沿线社会中科学、艺术、技术和许多其他领域的演变。天文学和数学从印度和阿拉伯传入中国;中国的造纸术和印刷术等重要发明被带到了西方)”可知,除了各国之间的贸易往来之外,丝绸之路也成为了各国之间文化、经济、艺术、科技等方面交流的桥梁,同时印度和阿拉伯的天文学和数学也传入中国。由此判断,丝绸之路加速了各国的发展。故选C。 (3) (23-24高二上·北京顺义·期末) Young German Man Studies TCM in China Wu Ming is a young German born after 1995. D.Outgoing. 根据第二段第一句“As he thought some diseases can’t be treated thoroughly with Western medicine, he decided to dig into TCM. (由于他认为有些疾病不能用西医彻底治疗,他决定钻研中医)”和最后一句“He hopes to solve problems and understand Chinese culture deeply by learning TCM. (他希望通过学习中医来解决问题,深入了解中国文化)”可知,Wu Ming学习中医的目的是为了更好治疗疾病和了解中国文化。故选D。 2.细节理解题。根据第三段“To overcome difficulties in communicating, he also learned and practiced Chinese, especially the Henan dialect (方言), as his teachers, schoolmates, and even some patients speak in Henan dialect in their daily conversations. (为了克服沟通困难,他还学习和练习了汉语,尤其是河南方言,就像他的老师、同学,甚至一些病人在日常对话中用河南话一样)”可知,Wu Ming为了克服沟通障碍,努力学习和练习汉语,尤其是河南话。故选B。 3.推理判断题。根据第四段“But now, according to the Yin-Yang principle in TCM, he lives a balanced and peaceful life, practicing good habits such as drinking tea and reading ancient books. (但现在,根据中医阴阳原理,他过着平衡且平静的生活,养成了喝茶和阅读古籍等良好习惯)”可推知,在学习完中医之后,Wu Ming现在过着平静且平衡的生活,并养成了喝茶和阅读古籍的习惯。故选D。 4.细节理解题。根据最后一段Wu Ming所说的话“We are the same. Misunderstanding comes from being out of touch. (我们是一样的。误解来自于失去联系)”可知,Wu Ming认为误解是因为缺乏联系和交流。故选A。 5. 根据第一段“He has been learning traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) since 2016, almost seven years. Now he is studying for his master’s degree at Henan University of Chinese Medicine.( 他从2016年开始学习中医,将近七年。现在他正在河南中医药大学攻读硕士学位)”及最后一段“He plans to run a traditional Chinese clinic (诊所) in China or Germany after graduation, which could serve as a bridge between the two countries and attract public attention to TCM and its culture.(他计划毕业后在中国或德国开办一家中医诊所,这将成为两国之间的桥梁,吸引公众对中医药及其文化的关注)”可知,Wu Ming特别喜欢中医,他已经学习中医七年了,并且今后打算开一个中医诊所,吸引公众对中医药及其文化的关注。 (4) (24-25高三上·北京·开学考试)Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), along with Chinese Kungfu and Peking Opera, is one of China’s cultural symbols recognized worldwide. 通过文章第二段“In some aspects such as surgery, Western medicine is better than TCM (在某些方面,如外科手术,西医优于中医)”可知,西医比中医在外科手术中更有效。故选C项。 2. 根据文章第四段“The first is the strengthening of TCM services in medical institutions. The second is to apply Internet technology to TCM management (第一是加强医疗机构的中医服务。二是将互联网技术应用于中医药管理)”以及“The third is to give better play to the advantages of TCM (三是更好发挥中医药优势)”可知,中国政府对中医药的支持是增加了医院和医疗中心的中医药服务,将互联网技术与中医药相结合以及更好地利用了中医药的优势,从而推知,中国政府对中医药的支持不包括呼吁公众支持中医药。故选A项。 3. 通读全文,特别是根据文章最后一段“As long as TCM keeps its core strengths and respects the rules of development and innovation, it will surely be able to maintain its vitality and bring more benefits to people in China and the world. (只要中医药保持核心优势,尊重发展和创新的规律,就一定能够保持活力,为中国人民和世界人民带来更多的利益)”可知,本文主要介绍了中医药的发展,推广和创新中医药已经成为中国社会的共识。D项“中医药开辟了新天地”符合文意,最适合作为本文标题。故选D项。 题型02 完形填空 (2025·北京海淀·一模)Last year, five homeless cats lived in the shadows in our neighborhood, silently asking for help.
