Sugar-free cookies, sugar-free candy, diet soda... Do these seem like healthier choices? Since sugar became a no-no in the nutrition (营养) and fitness world, sugar-free food and drinks have acted as replacements for once-beloved sweet drinks and snacks. Claiming (声称) to be ZERO sugar means they are healthier, better for diabetics (糖尿病患者), and help you slim down, Right?
★ In fact, they are worse.
When a product is labeled “sugar-free”, it means that artificial sweeteners (人工甜味剂) are used instead of real sugar. The problem is that they do not come from natural sources (来源) and can cause you more harm than good. Actually, most artificial sweeteners are much sweeter than sugar, even 200—600 times sweeter, so only a tiny amount is needed. That’s why many businesses market sugar-free replacements as “low-calorie” or “no-calorie”.
But some of these sugar-free replacements still include sugar and the chemicals your body often does not know how to process. It also means that you get no nutritional value from consuming them. What’s worse, when you eat this kind of sweet food, your body continues to want it and even though your body cannot metabolize (使新陈代谢) these sugar-free replacements, your brain does not know the difference either. In turn, sugar-free replacements can lead to weight gain and Type-2 diabetes.
Similarly, artificial sweeteners also hurt your gut’s ability to break down sugar, which affects everything you eat. In other words, your body doesn’t know how to deal with artificial sweeteners because they have nothing real to process.
Here’s a golden rule: stay away from artificial sweeteners and look for non-sugar, natural sweeteners. In the war against artificial sweeteners and real sugar, both lose. Satisfy your sweet tooth with natural sugars that come from fruits and avoid products claiming to be sugar-free!

31.Which of the following can be put in ★ ?
A.But sugar-free products aren’t better for you. B.Do they really include no sugar?
C.What can be called sugar-free products? D.The answer is yes.
32.What’s special about sugar-free products?

C.They are rich in nutrition. D.They have artificial sweeteners.
33.The underlined word “consuming” in Para.4 probably means “______”.
A.storing B.breaking C.eating D.controlling
34.What can be inferred about artificial sweeteners?
A.They can be metabolized easily. B.They pose a big risk to health.
C.They are as sweet as real sugar. D.They won’t lead to weight gain.
35.What does the author advise us to do?
A.Choose sugar from natural sources. B.Stay away from sugary products.
C.Look for sugar-free sweeteners. D.Take in more real sugar.
31.A 32.D 33.C 34.B 35.A
故选A。
根据“When a product is labeled ‘sugar-free’, it means that artificial sweeteners (人工甜味剂) are used instead of real sugar.”
根据“It also means that you get no nutritional value from consuming them.”
根据“The problem is that they do not come from natural sources (来源) and can cause you more harm than good.”
根据“Here’s a golden rule: stay away from artificial sweeteners and look for non-sugar, natural sweeteners.” 故选A。
C
(A)
More than half the young people in China are nearsighted, according to a survey, which called for great efforts to control the condition. The survey found that eight of 10 senior middle school students were nearsighted, compared with 71.6 percent in junior middle school, 36 percent in primary school and 14 percent of 6-year-olds in kindergarten.

“It is in giving that we receive,” It turns out that this is scientifically right. Studies have shown that putting the well-being of others before our own without expecting anything in return will give us a strong sense of satisfaction.
(D)
Studies show volunteering reduces stress. Even if you have little time to offer, just the act of giving has been shown to improve your health, possibly by reducing your sense of pain. A new study found that people who said they would volunteer were less sensitive (敏感的) to an electric shock than those who refused.
(E)
Researchers found a clear link between breakfast habits and heart disease risk. Those who didn’t eat in the morning were up to 87 percent more likely to cause heart trouble. They did a survey on 6,550 people over 40. Most (59 percent) ate breakfast every day, but 5.1 percent never did, 10.9 percent seldom did, and 25 percent would not eat for a few days.
(F)
Now many children are getting fat. Some of them spend too much time watching TV. Others have to spend a lot of time studying. So they don’t have enough time to exercise. A report says that many middle school students spend about 10 hours a day sitting down. And many students like eating sweet food. That also makes them fatter.
36.Match passages (A)—(F) with the two topics: ①Mental health; ②Physical health. Which is right?
A.①—(D)(E)(F); ②—(A)(B)(C)
B.①—(B)(C); ②—(A)(D)(E)(F)

Your mental health will gradually improve.” (C) 讨论利他行为带来满足感:“putting the well-being of others... gives us a strong sense of satisfaction.” (D) 说明志愿服务减轻压力:“volunteering reduces stress... improve your health.” 身体健康相关段落:(A) 聚焦青少年近视问题:“eight of 10 senior middle school students were nearsighted.” (F) 探讨儿童肥胖原因:“many children are getting fat... don’t have enough time to exercise.”
根据文章(A)段“More than half the young people in China are nearsighted... compared with 71.6% in junior middle school...”
根据(E)段“They did a survey... 59 percent ate breakfast every day, but 5.1 percent never did, 10.9 percent seldom did...”
根据(A)段“eight of 10 senior middle school students were nearsighted”(80%近视),与“half”不符;B项:(C)段未提及“难以做到无私”,属过度推断; C项:与(F)段“children... spend a lot of time studying... like eating sweet food”完全一致;D项:(E)段仅关联早餐与心脏病,未提“三餐”。
