Rathee discovered YouTube in 2014,a time when cheap smartphones and cellular data led to a
boom in Internet access in India.Inspired by videos he watched online,Rathee, now 28,started a travel vlog.
But he soon noticed a problem."People in India weren't trained on how to use the Internet and blindly
trusted whatever they saw on YouTube or WhatsApp,"he says.So Rathee, who grew up in a small northern
Indian town in the state of Haryana and later studied mechanical engineering in Germany, became what he
calls a"YouTube educator",making videos in Hindi that fact-check topics that are trending on Indian social
media."My aim is to present things as simply as possible and break down complex issues in simple words,"
he says.
Rathee's work is incredibly popular. He has accumulated nearly 13 million subscribers(订阅者),
making his YouTube channel one of the most-viewed in the country. It has also led to conflicts. When a film
called The Kerala Story began making waves in May,Rathee made a 23-minute video in which he argued
that the film promoted a false theory.Though Rathee used the government's data and international sources
to support his claim, his fact-checking led to consequences, including threats sent to his family.
Despite the risks,Rathee remains calm.He makes videos for one reason."I hope they teach people
tolerance,coexistence,and accepting each other's opinions,values that I myself really value,"he says."I'm

do that.”

Initial conversations can have a huge impact on how relationships develop over time.People are often
stuck in the impressions they think they might have made the minute they finish speaking with someone for
the first time:"Did they like me or were they just being polite?""Were they deep in thought or deeply
bored?"
To find out whether these worries are necessary,we have conducted nearly 10 years of research. In our
studies, participants in the UK talked with someone they had never met before.Afterward, they were asked
how much they liked their conversation partner and how much they believed that their conversation partner
liked them. This allowed us to compare how much people believed they were liked to how much they were
actually liked.
Time and time again,we found that people left their conversations with negative feelings about the
impression they made. That is,people underestimate (how much their conversation partners like them
and enjoy their company-a false belief we call the"liking gap".
This bias (may seem like something that would occur only in initial interactions, but its effects
extend far beyond a first impression.Surprisingly, the liking gap can constantly affect a variety of
relationships, including interactions with coworkers, long after the initial conversations have taken place.
Having a larger liking gap is associated with being less willing to ask workmates for help, less willing to
provide workmates with open and honest feedback, and less willing to work on another project together.
There are numerous strategies to minimize your biased feelings. One place to start is shifting your
focus of attention.Try to direct your attention to your conversation partner,be genuinely curious about them,
ask them more questions, and really listen to their answers. The more you zero in on the other person, and
the less you're focused on yourself, the better your conversation will be and the less your mind will turn to
all the things you think you didn't do well.
28.Why did the author carry out nearly 10 years of research?
A.To check out a potential bias.
B.To explore communication strategies.
C.To build harmonious relationships
D.To interpret the role of first impressions.

A.Increasing conflicts with workmates.
B.Underestimation of their capabilities.
C.Low willingness to interact with others.
D.Fewer opportunities for new projects.
30.What does the author intend to do in the last paragraph?
A.To give warnings.
B.To propose solutions.
C.To restate opinions.
D.To draw a conclusion.
31.Which might be the best title for the text?
A.First Impressions Rely on Initial Conversations
B.Liking Gap May Determine Work Performance
C.People Probably Like You More Than You Think
D.How People Like You Matters Less Than You Assume

In this digital age, information is increasingly digitized through the wide use of technology.
Newspapers, magazines and even textbooks are becoming or expected to be digital soon. However, despite
the sharp increase of such technology in daily life, print media is far from becoming unnecessary.I don't
think that reading in print is a dying mode.
Firstly, print offers a super reading experience. The feeling of holding a book in our hands, feeling its
weight and turning over its pages, helps us to be immersed (in and engaged fully with the material.
The act of turning over pages also helps to direct ourselves in the concepts and structure of the text.In
contrast, reading through a number of pages on a device is unsatisfying, and we can lose track of how much
we have read.In addition, the artificial glow of digital screens tires one's eyes out,and can even affect one's
sleep.
Moreover, physical copies express greater aesthetic beauty than digital ones. The designs that
beautify book covers and spines make the ideas complete and add beauty to our homes as well. The wrinkles
that have accumulated over time leave us with an emotional attachment to the books themselves.
Furthermore, the presentation of content in print also allows for greater appreciation of imagery. In contrast
to the restrictions of digital screens, the tangible (nature of print allows for clear imagery that is
impactful in its presence.
Advocates of digital print support the convenience of the medium.Indeed,e-readers provide a
convenient solution to storage and transportation. However, this carries its own weaknesses as well. For one,
the use of digital media requires the investment in a smart device. For another, taking notes on the printed
text is easier.
In conclusion, despite the convenience afforded by digital media, physical print still remains a popular
mode of reading today. The "less is more"nature of print media remains its strongest selling point today.
32.Why is print reading considered more immersive than digital reading?
A.Print allows readers to read faster and more efficiently.
B.Print helps readers track their reading and stay engaged.
C.Print offers readers greater accessibility and convenience.
D.Print protects readers'eyes and improves their sleep quality.
33.Where does the greater aesthetic beauty of physical copies come from?
A.Ease of transportation.
B.Vivid images.
第5页共8页
C.Emotional connection.
D.Abundant ideas.
34.What's the main purpose of the text?
A.To introduce two types of reading modes.
B.To inform people of a new trend in reading.
C.To argue why print reading will not disappear.
D.To persuade people to embrace digital reading
35.How does the author state the opinion?
A.By listing examples.
B.By explaining a concept.
C.By giving a definition.
D.By making a comparison.

The way we watch television has changed,as many of us no longer follow the old model of television.
In the past,a new episode of a show was released once a week.36People,therefore,have created a
new term:binge-watching.It is used to describe the behaviour of watching many episodes of a whole series
in a row.
37_In fact,.a20l8 Morning Consult poll(民意调查)found that60 percent of American adults who
watched shows binge-watched.The percentage even increased among young audience._38
Of course, every new cultural behaviour has its accompanying health consequences. What is binge-
watching doing to our health?39They sent an 18-question survey to 926 adults who owned a television
and at least one other device with a screen. They found that heavy screen time users averaged 17.5 hours of
screen-use every day. They also reported that this group's health condition was worse than light users.
Interestingly, researchers also discovered a connection between binge-watching and greater stress. The
result is surprising.40 It might have been believed that people are turning to binge-watching to deal
with anxiety and stress. However, that is not the case.It could be the case that people will suffer from
greater stress if watching more shows continuously.
A.Every new cultural behaviour has its own causes.
B.Nowadays,binge-watching is a common behaviour.
C.Now,many companies release a whole series at once.
D.People are more stressed out if they are binge-watching.
E.Researchers at Arizona State University wanted to figure this out.
F.73 percent of 18-to-29-year-olds binge-watched at least once a week.
G.Researchers identified binge-watchers by asking how long they watched television.

When I was a kid,my godparents,Uncle Nell and Aunt Frances,brought me a four-month-old puppy.
She was half German shepherd, half collie.I was filled with excitement because it had been my dream to
have a lovely and smart puppy to keep me company. As her pink tongue tickled my face with wet licks,it
was love at first hug.
My family named the puppy Dusty.Although I wanted to lay sole claim to her affections,in a family of
seven kids,no one laid permanent claim to the family pet.Dusty was our dog,not my dog.But we soon
realized that Dusty was doing her best to give all of us great patience and lots of unconditional love.
My baby sister often used Dusty's warm fur as a nap-time pillow, falling asleep soundly on the cosy
rug ()Like a protective mother,Dusty waited patiently,not moving,until my sister woke.She would
gently lick my sister's rosy cheeks, making her giggle.
Dusty doubled as a school crossing guard, too. From Monday to Friday she'd walk us kids two blocks
to St.Patrick's Parochial, looking both ways to check for traffic before allowing us to cross the street. We'd
wave goodbye as we entered the door, knowing Dusty would be waiting at the school door until the end of
the school day.
Of all the contributions Dusty made to our family, one incident stands out far and above all others.Late
one night,Dusty rushed to my parents'bedroom. She barked and barked. When she got no response,Dusty
raced upstairs to my bedroom and my brothers'bedroom and barked again and again. When she failed to
fully wake us,she flew back down the steps and returned to my parents'room.

第四部分写作
(仅供参考)
第一篇:
Dear Jack,
I hope this email finds you well.I wanted to share some exciting news with you.
Our class recently won the first prize in a poster design competition organized by our
English club, with the theme of"Mass Media".
The creative process was both challenging and rewarding. We began by
discussing the way mass media influences our society, and eventually decided to
focus on the role of social media in forming public opinion. In addition, bright colors
and bold imagery were carefully selected to convey our message powerfully. It took
us several attempts to perfect the design, but the result was worth our joint effort.
This experience was truly inspiring, which helped me realize the importance of
collaboration and creativity.
Hope to hear from you soon.
Yours,
LiHua
读后续写范文:
Finally,she got Mom's attention."What are you doing,Dusty?"Mom snapped,
still halfway in dreamland. But Dusty persisted. Finally my mother gave in."Okay,
what is it?"Dusty whined and rushed out of Mom's room.Thinking the dog needed to
be let out to relieve herself,my mother followed Dusty to the front door. When Mom
opened the door to let her out,Dusty tore across the street, not stopping to do as my
mother had assumed she would. Then she discovered something unusual-the bright
flames and thick smoke.
The house across the street, where my best friend Maria and her family lived,
was on fire.My mother alerted the fire department immediately.Soon, the firefighters
in their trucks roared up the street, put out the blaze, and saved my best friend's
family from harm and their house from total ruin.Later,my mother refused to take
credit.“It was Dusty,”she told us.“She saved them,not me..”I put my arms around
my dog's neck and kissed her."Thank you for saving Maria. You're the bravest dog
I've ever known."Dusty wagged her tail and licked my face.

M:Vatican Radio recently began its first regular news broadcast in Latin. The
broadcast is the latest effort to expand the use of Latin. The weekly Vatican Radio
news broadcast lasts five minutes. It will be followed by a 30-minute show with Latin
conversation. The radio's news team,as well as the Vatican's Latin translation
department, will produce the program.Italian businessman Luca Desiata published a
new book of crossword puzzles in Latin and ancient Greek this month. This book is
thought to be the first with no help or explanations in modern languages.Desiata said
the Internet has helped renew interest in Latin as more and more schools around the
world stop teaching it.He said we now have Wikipedia in Latin, and about 40 Latin
Facebook groups around the world. Many attempts have been made to bring Latin
back to popular use. Some have tried to introduce new words for things that did not
exist at the time of the Roman Empire. In the 1990s,for example, top Vatican Latin
researcher Carlo Egger came up with some words for common objects in the home.
Maybe given time, the dead language will come back to life.
