As a physician and biochemist, Lefkowitz is a professor of biochemistry and chemistry at the Duke University Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina. In a recent conversation via video, Lefkowitz said that he wanted his memoir to be “funny, interesting, and easy to understand”. In the book, Lefkowitz humorously describes his Journey from a cardiologist (or a heart doctor) to a biochemist. Lefkowitz’s dream of becoming a doctor began when he was eight years old and growing up in the Bronx of New York City. After his father died of a heart attack, Lefkowitz made up his mind to be a cardiologist. He earned his medical degree at Columbia University. Lefkowitz is no stranger to conducting experiments and making discoveries. He was awarded the 2012 Nobel Prize for Chemistry with Brian Kobilka. The two scientists were honored for their discoveries that could help unlock the secrets of many diseases. When asked what played the most important role in his success, Lefkowitz mentioned about himself and he described himself as “reasonably intelligent and creative, hardworking, and not easily disturbed”. He added that being funny could also be very good for you and the people around you. Before winning the Nobel Prize, Lefkowitz did countless experiments, and only 1 out of 50 turned out OK. “With difficult decisions I’ve had to make, I tend to make them with my heart rather than my head.” Lefkowitz said. “However, I don’t mean that deciding with your heart is always right.” At age 78, the scientist has no plans for slowing down. “My body and mind are still working,” he said. “I want to continue running my lab at Duke University and writing and publishing research papers.” 24. What directly motivated Lefkowitz to be a doctor? A. His conversation with a cardiologist. B. His father’s death from a heart attack. C. His enthusiasm for a doctor’s memoir. D. His poor physical health in childhood. 25. What is the key to Lefkowitz’s success in his own opinion? A. His good teamwork. B. His family’s support. C. His positive qualities. D. C Every day when Glen Oliver orders his morning coffee at the drive-through window of a local cafe, he insists on paying for the order of the person behind him. He also asks the restaurant workers to tell the customer to have a great day, in case they’re not already having one. Oliver has never made a big deal out of his own generous actions until a letter was published by a news website in November. He found out that he had not just bought someone his breakfast —he had saved a life. According to the website, someone had written a letter stating that on July 18th, he was planning on committing suicide. The writer said that while he was at the drive-through window, he was planning on going home, writing a note and ending his life. When he went to pay for his coffee and muffin, however, the cashier told him that the man in the SUV in front of him had picked up the tab and told him to have a great day. “I wondered why someone would buy coffee for a stranger for no reason,” said the writer. “Why me? Why today? If I were a religious man, I would take this as a sign. This random act of kindness was directed at me on this day for a purpose.” When the writer arrived home, he couldn’t restrain his tears and started to think about the simple good deed that had affected him so deeply. “I decided at that moment to change my plans for the day and do something nice for someone. I ended up helping a neighbor take groceries out of her car and into the house.” The writer says that in the months following that fateful event, he does at least one kind thing for others every day. “To the nice man in the SUV, thank you from the bottom of my heart. Please know your kind gesture has truly saved a life,” he said. “On July 18, 2017, I had the greatest day.” 28. What is Oliver’s act of kindness every day? A. Buying others breakfast. B. Greeting restaurant workers. C. Publishing positive news. D. Taking groceries for neighbors. 29. What is special about Oliver’s act of kindness on July 18, 2017? A. It brought him thank-you letters. B. It was reported on a news website. C. It was the first time he’d paid for others. D. It stopped someone from killing himself. 30. What does the underlined phrase “picked up the tab” mean in Paragraph 3? A. Paid the bill. B. Parked the car. C. Left a message. D. Ordered a drink. 31. How did the writer of the letter feel after the event? A. He felt guilty. B. He felt grateful. C He felt confused. D. He felt sad. D The study, published in the Journal of Child Psychology & Psychiatry, compared survey results of parents with their children in England and Wales from the ages of 16 months to 13 years. The research team found that average levels of food fussiness (挑食) were relatively stable during this period, peaking somewhat around the age of 7 and declining slightly after that. They concluded that genetic differences in the population accounted for 60% of the variation in food fussiness at 16 months, rising to 74% and over between the ages of 3 and 13. Lead author Dr Zeynep Nas said, “Food fussiness is common among children and can be a major source of anxiety for parents and caregivers, who often blame themselves for this behaviour or are blamed by others. “We hope our finding that fussy eating is largely inborn may help to ease parental blame. This behaviour is not a result of parenting.” Senior author Dr Clare Llewellyn said, “While genetic factors are the major influence for food fussiness, environment also plays a supporting role. Environmental factors, such as sitting down together as a family to eat meals, may only be significant in toddlerhood (蹒跚学步期); While environmental factors, such as individual personal experiences (e.g., having different friends), become more influential in later years.” This suggests that interventions (干预) to help children eat a wider range of foods, such as repeatedly exposing children to the same foods regularly and offering a variety of fruits and vegetables, may be most effective in the very early years. Unique environmental factors accounted for about a quarter of individual differences between children in fussy eating by ages 7 and 13, the researchers estimated. Among the study limitations, the researchers noted that there were fewer participants at age 7 compared to other time points and that the study sample (样本) had a large percentage of white British households of higher social economic backgrounds compared to the general population of England and Wales. In future, the team said, research should focus on non-western populations where food culture, parental feeding practices and food security may be quite different. 32. According to paragraph 1, what does the study tell us? A. Teenagers over 13 years old have a balanced diet. B. Children at 7 have the highest level of food fussiness. C. Variation in food fussiness causes genetic differences. D. Children become more particular about food with age. 33. What did Dr Zeynep Nas suggest? A. Parents should be blamed for children’s food fussiness. B. Food fussiness is mainly caused by genetic factors. C. Children should be forced to eat various foods. D. Parents should avoid eating with their children. 34. According to Dr Clare Llewellyn, which of the following is important for young children’s eating habits? A. Having meals with family. B. Making more friends. C. Eating a variety of foods. D. Exercising regularly. 35. What is the limitation of the study? A. It only focused on children in England and Wales. B. It didn’t consider the influence of environment. C. It had a small number of participants at age 7. D. It didn’t distinguish between different genders. 第二节(共5小题:每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 School success means different things to different people. I stood at the school gate, with a loaded backpack on my shoulders. It was Friday again: a weekend of joy with unlimited sleeping hours and dinner courses specially made to my taste, a weekend at home. I waved goodbye to my friends as they jumped into their fathers' warm and comfortable cars. Curiously, this gave rise to a disturbing feeling in me. It was not exactly what they called jealousy, but something like dismay (沮丧). I knew all I could expect was an old bike Mom would ride along on, with the badly-oiled chain creaking (嘎吱作响) against the wheel to announce her arrival. Every Friday when Mom came to pick me up for the weekend, it was a moment full of great expectation and great unease. I always felt my face burning as we rode our way in and out of the numerous cars and saw my friends’ faces sticking out of the car windows. It was like stepping into a ballroom with beautifully dressed ladies and finding yourself in a smelly T-shirt. To tell you the truth, Mom is quite a headache once in a while. She just looks a homely middle-aged housewife. Being a practitioner of DIY, she knits most of my sweaters, chiefly in old styles. Whenever caught by some curious classmates asking what brand my sweaters are, I'd force a smile and reply in a half joking manner: homemade. I couldn’t remember when I started to find her such an embarrassment. As a little boy, I relied on her so much. She had been working at home, cooking in the kitchen, knitting by the lamp or riding across town to buy me a book I badly needed. It had always been much fun riding with mom. But just now there seemed to be something standing between us, something that made her so strange to me and me to her. 注意: 1. 续写词数应为150左右; 2. 请按如下格式作答。 Today she showed up in a raincoat. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Mom tried to cover me with the back of the raincoat again as a storm set in. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 绝密★启用前 2025年下期育贤中学高二年级期中考试英语科试卷 满分:150分;考试时间:120分钟;命题人: 注意事项: 1. What drink will the man have? D. His interest in research. 26. What can we learn about Lefkowitz concerning his experiments? A. He suffered from a lot of failure. B. He always succeeded as planned. C. He considered them less challenging. D. He couldn’t do them on his own. 27. Which of the following can best describe Lefkowitz according to the last paragraph? A. Practice makes perfect. B. C. He felt confused. D. He felt sad. 【答案】28. A 29. D 30. A 31. B 【解析】 【分析】本文是一篇记叙文。Glen Oliver每天早上为后面的人买早餐,他的善举无意中挽救了一个想自杀的人的生命。 【28题详解】 细节推理题。根据第一段“Every day when Glen Oliver orders his morning coffee at the drive-through window of a local cafe, he insists on paying for the order of the person behind him.(每天,当格伦·奥利弗在当地一家咖啡馆的免下车窗口点早间咖啡时,他都坚持要为他后面的人点的咖啡买单。)”可知,Glen Oliver每天早上为后面的人买早餐。故选A。 【29题详解】 推理判断题。根据第二段“He found out that he had not just bought someone his breakfast —he had saved a life. (他发现自己不仅为别人买了早餐,还救了一条生命。)”、第三段“someone had written a letter stating that on July 18th, he was planning on committing suicide. (有人写了一封信,称7月18日,他打算自杀。)”和第五段“I decided at that moment to change my plans for the day and do something nice for someone. (就在那一刻,我决定改变今天的计划,为别人做些好事。)”可知,2017年7月18日Glen Oliver的善举使一个人放弃了要自杀的想法,并决定也为别人做好事。故选D。 【30题详解】 词义猜测题。根据划线词前半句“When he went to pay for his coffee and muffin,(当他去付咖啡和松饼的钱时)”并结合第一段“he insists on paying for the order of the person behind him(他都坚持要为他后面的人点的咖啡买单。)”可知,当这个人为早餐结账时,收银员告诉他,坐在他前面的SUV车里的那个人已经给他买了账单。所以picked up the tab指“付款买单”之意,与Paid the bill同义。故选A。 【31题详解】 细节理解题。根据最后一段“To the nice man in the SUV, thank you from the bottom of my heart. (对SUV里的好男人,我从心底感谢你。)”可知,写信者非常感激Glen Oliver。故选B。 D The study, published in the Journal of Child Psychology & Psychiatry, compared survey results of parents with their children in England and Wales from the ages of 16 months to 13 years. 【答案】32. B 33. B 34. C 35. C 【解析】 【导语】这是一篇说明文。文章主要说明了一项关于孩子挑食的研究,介绍了研究的发现以及局限性等情况。 【32题详解】 细节理解题。根据第一段“The research team found that average levels of food fussiness (挑食) were relatively stable during this period, peaking somewhat around the age of 7 and declining slightly after that. (研究小组发现,在这段时间里,食物挑剔的平均水平相对稳定,在7岁左右达到顶峰,之后略有下降。)”可知,这项研究指出7岁的孩子对食物的挑剔程度最高。故选B。 【33题详解】 推理判断题。根据第二段““We hope our finding that fussy eating is largely inborn may help to ease parental blame. This behaviour is not a result of parenting.” (“我们希望,挑食在很大程度上是天生的这一发现,可以帮助减轻父母的指责。这种行为不是父母教育的结果。”)”可知,泽内普·纳斯博士指出挑食主要是由遗传因素引起的。故选B。 【34题详解】 细节理解题。根据倒数第二段“This suggests that interventions (干预) to help children eat a wider range of foods, such as repeatedly exposing children to the same foods regularly and offering a variety of fruits and vegetables, may be most effective in the very early years. (这表明,帮助孩子吃更广泛的食物的干预措施,比如定期让孩子反复接触同样的食物,并提供各种水果和蔬菜,可能在很小的时候就最有效)”可知,根据克莱尔·卢埃林博士的说法,吃各种各样的食物对幼儿的饮食习惯很重要。故选C。 【35题详解】 细节理解题。根据最后一段“Among the study limitations, the researchers noted that there were fewer participants at age 7 compared to other time points and that the study sample (样本) had a large percentage of white British households of higher social economic backgrounds compared to the general population of England and Wales. (在研究的局限性中,研究人员指出,与其他时间点相比,7岁时的参与者较少,而且与英格兰和威尔士的普通人口相比,研究样本中有很大比例的英国白人家庭具有较高的社会经济背景。)”可知,本研究的局限性是只有一小部分7岁的参与者。故选C。 第二节(共5小题:每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 School success means different things to different people. They tried to make marks on their own possessions ____59____ (prevent) them from being stolen. When the first dynasty ____60____ (found). the king began to use seals to empower (投权) and to show lordly credits. Only the king’s special seal was then called “Xi” ____61____ (represent) the highest authority. The first emperor of China, Qin Shi Huang, had his “Xi” made out of ____62____ is called “Heshi Bi”. Then the local governments also needed seals for ____63____ same function. Meanwhile, private seals were carved in ____64____ (various) of lucky characters and vivid animal patterns. ____65____ (gradual) , the sphragistics (印章学) came into being. 【答案】56. surprised 57. for 58. which 59. to prevent 60. was founded 61. representing 62. what 63. the 64. varieties 65. 故填which。 【59题详解】 考查不定式。句意:他们试图在自己的财产上做标记,以防止被盗。分析句子可知,此处考查动词不定式,作目的状语。由于动词prevent与所修饰词they之间是主动关系,使用不定式的主动语态即可。故填to prevent。 故填the。 参考词汇:中国美食节 Chinese Food Festival Dear Tom, _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Yours, Li Hua 【答案】One possible version: Dear Tom, A Chinese Food Festival will be held in our city. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】One possible version Today she showed up in a raincoat. Seeing her standing in the heavy rain with all the body wet, I finally could not control myself and shouted at her, “Why do you look so flustered? I don’t need you to take me home. I feel ashamed to have a mother like you!” Suddenly, Mom was shocked and silent. Maybe, she had never thought that I would have that feeling of her appearance and our home condition. She said nothing and just covered the raincoat on me. I pushed it away wildly. Mom tried to cover me with the back of the raincoat again as a storm set in. With a smile, she said, “Dear son, I’m trying my best to earn our living, and I’m sure that if we work harder, we will get whatever we want in the future.” Hearing her words, I felt embarrassed. I thought of the time when she knitted in the deep night and cooked for me in the early morning. Yes, she had always been doing whatever she could to make me live well. But I was still unsatisfied. I had known that if I wanted to get what others had, I should spare no efforts to study hard and get it by myself. 词汇激活 行为类 ①控制:control/restrain ②大叫:shout/yell/scream ③赚取:earn/gain 情绪类 ①羞愧的:shamed/guilty ②震惊的:astonished/stunned 【点睛】【高分句型1】 Seeing her standing in the heavy rain with all the body wet, I finally could not control myself and shouted at her, “Why do you look so flustered?
