对于推测划线单词或短语的含义,可以依据定义、同位语、文章中的例子、对比关系或比较关系、构词法、并列结构、因果关系等来解题;
对于推测代词含义,可以从宏观上充分把握代词指代内容涉及段落的整体含义,并从微观入手抓住关键词或关键句,弄清逻辑关系(因果关系,转折关系,补充说明,对比关系等)来解题;

Although I’ve never had such hometown feelings because I’ve never left my hometown, I’ve known that lots of people have to leave theirs to work or study, carrying large suitcases with them.
On the Internet some suitcases prepared by parents have moved lots of people. Parents’ love is about fearing that you might always get hungry in another city. Parents’ worries are about not being able to put everything in your suitcase. The suitcases are a symbol of parents’ silent love and encouragement—they can’t help their children with the competition and pressure from the outside world, and they can only watch their children go through ups and downs in life. However, the deepest watch and encouragement have always been there. ________, but no matter where you are, the family is your strong encouragement to face the windy and rainy days.

Melanie was born with spina bifida, a condition that rid her of the ability to walk. All her life, she had been using a wheelchair to get around. Trevor, on the other hand, has been blind since he was born.
The two ran into each other at an adaptive rock climbing class. They soon learned that they shared a common love for nature. Knowing all of this, the pair came up with a brilliant idea—with their strengths combined, they would climb the mountains of Colorado together!
Before the start of each journey, Melanie, secure in carrier, is hoisted by a friend or a fellow hiker onto Trevor’s back. Her role is to give verbal directions to her partner as they pass through the trail. “I describe everything I see and exactly how Trevor needs to move,” Melanie said of their hiking method. “It just seemed like common sense,” she told Good Morning America. “He’s the legs, I’m the eyes—boom! Together, we’re the dream team.”
To them, the best part about hiking as a pair is that they get to give each other the chance to accomplish something that others might believe is impossible.
“It made me so happy to help someone experience what I’ve been able to experience my whole life. Just getting on top of a mountain, you just feel that sense of accomplishment. The best part is being able to make her smile. That gives me purpose,” Trevor said.
As for Melanie, she says that the activity also gives her the feeling of freedom. “I’ve been in a wheelchair my whole life, and it’s an amazing feeling to leave it miles behind on the trail. I even couldn’t get in it if I wanted to, and that’s a great feeling,” she said.
1.What do we know about Melanie and Trevor?

Today was my first day at senior high and it was hard. In high school, you have 4 minutes to get to your next class. My high school is very big and those 4 minutes to go from one class to another really isn’t a lot of time. Today I had to go from one end of the building to the other to get from science class to math class. I wanted to go to my locker first and leave my science book there, but that took time. I was worried about being late, and I was. The math teacher said, “Just be on time tomorrow, or you’ll have detention (放学后留校).”
After math, I went to art class. I like my art class a lot because I get to create things. The teacher there showed us how to make portraits (肖像). He explained, “A portrait is a way of communicating with a person. It does not just show how the person looks but what is important to understand the person.” We just did drawings today, but I know it’s going to be great. I like drawing.
I like my English class, too. I think the teacher is really supportive. Today we wrote about ourselves. The teacher said to just write what you think, and we’ll pay attention to punctuation (标点) later. We could write a paragraph or a poem, and I wrote a poem about myself. I thought it was a good poem, and the teacher said I had used good images (意象) to communicate my feelings.
Lunch was very hurried. I arrived at the dining room with 12 minutes to eat. I sat with people I didn’t know, and everyone was eating quickly. After lunch I signed up for a computer club. I need to learn how to use a computer well because my social studies teacher says it is the one skill you need in every class.

3.What did the English teacher do after seeing the author’s work?
A.He praised the author.
B.He pointed out the author’s mistake.
C.He asked the author to check punctuation.
D.He encouraged the author to introduce himself.
4.Which can be the best title for the text?

Visiting my parents for the weekend, a traditional practice plays out. Sitting on the sofa after Sunday lunch, I reach towards the photo albums (相册) in the bookcase.
Opening one, selected at random, I feel as if I’m being wrapped in a comfortable blanket, carried back more than 40 years into my childhood. Here, in a white dress, is me aged four, face alive with joy as I was reaching my Christmas gifts.
There’s my brother in a blue shirt, playing with his toy planes. My 10-year-old daughter Clemmie sits beside me, pointing at pictures, asking questions about the cute babies (my cousins) and that youthful man carving the turkey (my dad).
She’s excited to see her family history rolled out. But after leafing through the final page, she turns to me, “Where are the pictures of my Christmases?” To which my shameful answer is, “I’m not sure.” Because, unlike my parents, I have no mass of albums recording Clemmie’s early life.
Clemmie and her 12-year-old sister Sasha are set to become part of what the Professional Photographers of America calls the “lost generation”— an era of people, currently fairly young, who risk losing these magical images of their childhood and with it, a strong sense of their history.
On the one hand, our children are the most photographed in history, with more than 400 million shots (快照) uploaded on social media platforms every day. Yet many are rarely looked at again. And an estimated 631 million photographs each year will remain forever on accounts to which we’ve forgotten the passwords, making them inaccessible to us and future generations.
This is a shame, not only for personal interest, but for something deeper. “Looking at family photos helps children create a sense of identity and gives them the gift of the past,” explains Dana Denis Smith, whose recent TED talk is about the importance of preserving our memories.
My old Canon camera still works fine. So this Christmas, I’m making a change. Because when my daughters are adults, I want them to be able to sit with their children and point (and laugh) at my terrible hairstyles and fashions.
5.Which describes the author’s feeling when viewing old photo albums?
A.Sadness about lost records. B.Fondness for past memories.
C.Regret about old technology. D.Joy at uncovering secrets.
6.Why are modern children called the “lost generation”?
A.They may care little about family history. B.They spend much time on social media.
C.They prefer digitally perfected pictures. D.They may lose their childhood memories.
7.What is one reason many photos today are rarely seen again?
A.They are printed in low quality.
B.People store them on devices but rarely organize them.
C.They’re stuck in social media accounts we can’t access.
D.They are all deleted after uploading.
8.What does Dana emphasize about the role of family photos?
A.Waking up multiple emotions. B.Recording past fashions and styles.
C.Strengthening children’s self-identity. D.Contributing to parent-child relationships.
根据第二段中“Opening one, selected at random, I feel as if I’m being wrapped in a comfortable blanket, carried back more than 40 years into my childhood. (随机打开一本,我感觉自己仿佛被裹在一条舒适的毯子里,回到了40多年前的童年。)”可推知,作者在看旧相册时,对过去的记忆充满了喜爱。故选B。
6.细节理解题。根据第五段“Clemmie and her 12-year-old sister Sasha are set to become part of what the Professional Photographers of America calls the ‘lost generation’— an era of people, currently fairly young, who risk losing these magical images of their childhood and with it, a strong sense of their history. (克莱米和她12岁的姐姐萨莎将成为美国职业摄影师所说的“失落的一代”的一部分——这是一个目前相当年轻的人群,他们有可能失去童年这些神奇的图像,以及随之而来的强烈的历史感。)”可知,现代儿童被称为“失落的一代”是因为他们可能会失去童年的记忆。故选D。
7.细节理解题。根据第六段中“And an estimated 631 million photographs each year will remain forever on accounts to which we’ve forgotten the passwords, making them inaccessible to us and future generations. (据估计,每年有6.31亿张照片将永远留在我们忘记密码的账号上,使我们和后代无法访问这些照片。)”可知,许多照片如今很少再被看到的原因之一是它们被困在我们无法访问的社交媒体账号中。故选C。
8.细节理解题。根据第七段中“‘Looking at family photos helps children create a sense of identity and gives them the gift of the past,’ explains Dana Denis Smith, whose recent TED talk is about the importance of preserving our memories. (‘看家庭照片有助于孩子们建立一种身份认同感,并赋予他们一份承载过去的礼物,’达娜·丹尼斯·史密斯解释道,她最近的TED演讲是关于保存我们记忆的重要性。)”可知,达娜强调了家庭照片在加强孩子自我认同方面的作用。故选C。
3、 人际关系—友谊
When choosing a friend, one should be very careful. A good friend can help you study. You can have fun together and make each other happy. Sometimes, you will meet fair-weather friends. They will be with you as long as you have money or luck, but when you are down, they will run away. How do I know when I have found a good friend? I look for certain qualities of character, especially understanding, honesty and reliability (可靠).
First of all, understanding is indeed the most important in a friend. A good friend tries to understand how another person is feeling. He is not quick to judge. Instead, he tries to learn from others. He puts himself in the other person’s place, and he tries to think of ways to be helpful. He is also a good listener.
At the same time, however, a good friend is honest. He does not look for faults (缺点) in others. He notices their good points. In short, a friend will try to understand me and accept me.
Another quality of a friend is reliability. I can always depend on a good friend. If he tells me he will meet me somewhere at a certain time, I can be sure that he will be there. If I need a favor, he will do his best to help me. If I am in trouble, he will not run away from me.
There is a fourth quality that makes a friend special. A special friend is someone with whom we can have fun. We should enjoy our lives, and we would enjoy our friendship. That is why I especially like friends who are fun to be with. A good friend likes the same things I like. We share experience and learn from each other. A good friend has a good sense of humor. He likes to laugh with me. That is how we share the joy of being friends. And I know that he is looking for the same quality in me.
When I meet someone who is reliable, honest and understanding, I know I’ve found a friend!

Many of us start exercising in the hope of losing unwanted pounds. Unquestionably, aiming to be more active is a good thing. But if the main reason is to lose weight, your resolution could very well come to nothing.
For starters, exercise is typically futile for weight loss. Take walking for example. A 150-pound person who walks for 30 minutes will burn, on average, around 140 calories. That’s equal to one can of soda — not exactly a great return on your investment of time and effort. It’s much easier just to skip the soda.
When exercise is added to a diet, the results are equally unimpressive. Researchers found that a combination of dieting and exercising brought no greater weight loss than dieting alone after six months. At 12 months, the diet-and-exercise combination showed an advantage, but it was slight — about 4 pounds.
In studies where exercise has produced meaningful weight loss, participants burned at least 400 to 500 calories per session on five or more days a week. To achieve that, a 150-pound person would need to walk a minimum of 90 minutes or run 30 minutes per day. In short, sessions need to go well beyond what most of us are willing or able to do. And even if we manage to make that much effort, our bodies often compensate(抵消) by eagerness for more food and slowing down metabolism(新陈代谢), effects that over time limit how many pounds we lose.
When exercise fails to meet our weight-loss expectations, we often stop working out. Perhaps the biggest problem with exercising to drop pounds is that it turns physical activity into punishment — a price we have to pay for a slimmer body. How many times have you heard someone say “I’ll need to do extra exercise” after eating too much? We treat exercise as a form of self-punishment for being “bad.” In this case, we’re unlikely to keep doing it for very long.
The conclusion is that we’re more likely to treat exercise positively and actually do it when we focus on our well-being rather than our weight.
13. What does the underlined word “futile” in paragraph 2 mean?
A. Necessary. B. Popular. C. Dangerous. D. Useless.
14. What happens when you run 30 minutes on a daily basis?
A. You will burn 140 calories every day.
B. You will lose 4 pounds in a month.
C. You might have a higher metabolic rate.
D. You might eat more than usual.
15. Why do people who want to lose weight through exercise often give up?
A. They are unlikely to really enjoy it.
B. They find it too challenging physically.
C. They have difficulty resisting(抵抗) delicious food.
D. They turn their attention to their well-being.
16. What can be the best title for the text?
A. How long should you exercise a day to lose weight?
B. What are the best exercises for losing weight?
C. Weight loss: why exercise is the wrong path
D. Exercise and weight loss: a pair of brothers
D 14. D 15. A 16. C
由第二段中的“For starters, exercise is typically futile for weight loss. Take walking for example. A 150-pound person who walks for 30 minutes will burn, on average, around 140 calories. That’s equal to one can of soda — not exactly a great return on your investment of time and effort. It’s much easier just to skip the soda.(首先,运动对于减肥来说通常是futile。以步行为例。一个体重150磅的人步行30分钟平均会燃烧140卡路里左右。这相当于一罐苏打水——这对你投入的时间和精力来说并不是一个很大的回报。相比之下,不喝苏打水更容易减肥。)”可知,每天步行30分钟减肥效果不理想,说明运动对于减肥来说通常是无用的,futile意为“无用的(Useless)”。故选D项。
14. 细节理解题。由第四段中的“To achieve that, a 150-pound person would need to walk a minimum of 90 minutes or run 30 minutes per day. (为了实现这一目标,一个150磅的人每天至少需要步行90分钟或跑步30分钟)”和“And even if we manage to make that much effort, our bodies often compensate (抵消) by eagerness for more food and slowing down metabolism (新陈代谢), effects that over time limit how many pounds we lose. (即使我们努力了那么多,我们的身体也会通过渴望更多的食物和减缓新陈代谢来补偿,随着时间的推移,这些影响会限制我们减掉多少磅)”可知,当你每天跑步30分钟时,你的身体会渴望更多的食物,你可能比平时吃得多。故选D项。
15. 推理判断题。由第五段中的“When exercise fails to meet our weight-loss expectations, we often stop working out. Perhaps the biggest problem with exercising to drop pounds is that it turns physical activity into punishment — a price we have to pay for a slimmer body. (当运动不能达到我们的减肥预期时,我们经常停止锻炼。也许运动减肥最大的问题是,它会把体育锻炼变成惩罚——这是我们为瘦身所付出的代价)”和“We treat exercise as a form of self-punishment for being “bad.” In this case, we’re unlikely to keep doing it for very long. (我们将运动视为对“坏”的一种自我惩罚。在这种情况下,我们不太可能长期坚持锻炼)”可知,人们往往把运动当成一种减肥的自我惩罚,所以他们并不喜欢运动,当运动不能达到人们的减肥预期时,人们经常停止锻炼,可得出想通过运动减肥的人经常放弃是因为他们不太可能真正享受运动。故选A项。
由第一段“Many of us start exercising in the hope of losing unwanted pounds. Unquestionably, aiming to be more active is a good thing. But if the main reason is to lose weight, your resolution could very well come to nothing. (我们中的许多人开始锻炼,希望能减掉多余的体重。毫无疑问,努力变得更积极是一件好事。但如果主要原因是减肥,你的决心很可能会落空)”,第二段中的“For starters, exercise is typically futile for weight loss. (首先,运动对于减肥来说通常是徒劳的)”,第三段中的“When exercise is added to a diet, the results are equally unimpressive. (当节食和运动相结合时,效果同样不显著)”,第四段中的“And even if we manage to make that much effort, our bodies often compensate (抵消) by eagerness for more food and slowing down metabolism (新陈代谢), effects that over time limit how many pounds we lose.

Teenagers are growing increasingly inactive worldwide. Worse still is the fact that Australia, a nation that prides itself on its outdoor culture, is doing particularly poorly. We’re currently ranked 140th out of 146 countries for teenage exercise levels. The data shows that 85% of girls are physically inactive compared to 78% of boys. In Australia, less than 1 in 10 adolescents aged 12 to 18 are meeting the recommended levels of physical activity.
The current guidelines and evidence state that teenagers should do at least 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous(剧烈的) physical activity per day. This should include muscle and bone strengthening activities at least three days per week, whilst limiting recreational screen time to a maximum of 2 hours per day.
Not being sufficiently active can cause a range of health conditions leading to early adulthood and beyond. Adolescents may have decreased bone and cardio-metabolic(心脏代谢的) health which leaves them facing an increased risk of chronic disease in later life, including type 2 diabetes, heart disease, high cholesterol, and decreased fitness. If you're not moving enough, you’re also at an increased risk of being overweight or obese, with statistics already showing that 29. 8% of teenagers are classified as overweight.
So how can we get teenagers to exercise more? Firstly, high schools should place more importance on lunchtime and allow 1-hour breaks that increase physical activity. We should also encourage teenagers to be active on their lunch break. Parents and guardians also have an important role to play and should aim to dedicate 1 hour a day to moving more. This does not need to be 1 full hour and can be broken down into two 30-minute blocks. The most important factor is to identify your teenager’s interests, level, and needs surrounding their physical activity.
Don’t be afraid to ask for assistance in finding a safe and fun exercise program. An accredited(经授权的) exercise physiologist or exercise scientist can help your child find a way to be more active that is suited to their needs, age of development, and interests.
21.What does the data about teenagers in Australia show?
A.Girls are more active than boys. B.They generally lack enough exercise.
C.Boys prefer vigorous physical activity. D.They are proud of their outdoor culture.
22.What does paragraph 3 mainly talk about?
A.A lack of exercise does lasting harm to health.
B.Outdoor activities help build positive character
C.Most chronic diseases come from getting overweight.
D.Teenagers tend to take in more calories than they need.
23.What is especially important when it comes to encouraging teenagers to exercise more?
A.Parents’ full participation in exercising. B.Taking their interests into consideration.
C.Improvement in the school PE course. D.Arranging a balanced diet for them.
24.Why does the author most probably write the text?
A.To recommend fun exercise
B.To encourage physical activity among teenagers.
C.To explain the reason for teenagers’ poor health.
D.To demonstrate the way to build a good living habit.

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), along with Chinese Kungfu and Peking Opera, is one of China’s cultural symbols recognized worldwide. It is a gem of Chinese civilization, and it has also made great contributions to world civilization by improving people’s health and promoting social progress.
There used to be a debate in China about whether TCM or Western medicine was better, and arguments can still be heard today. But actually, TCM and western medicine are two different medical theoretical systems that can not replace each other. In some aspects such as surgery, Western medicine is better than TCM, but in other areas, such as recovery after surgery and treatment of chronic (慢性的) diseases, TCM is more effective. This is why some Chinese hospitals provide both TCM and Western medicine treatments. A combination of both has been accepted by many Chinese people as the most effective treatment.
Today, promoting and innovating TCM has become a consensus (共识) in Chinese society. The Chinese government has formulated policies to support the development and innovation of TCM, with a view to establishing a Chinese healthcare development model paying equal attention to both.
The supportive policies of the Chinese Government will focus on three aspects. The first is the strengthening of TCM services in medical institutions. The second is to apply Internet technology to TCM management, including setting up a database containing TCM electronic medical records and prescriptions (处方). The third is to give better play to the advantages of TCM, especially acupuncture (针灸) and naprapathy (推拿). The function of TCM in disease prevention and recovery will also be enhanced.
As long as TCM keeps its core strengths and respects the rules of development and innovation, it will surely be able to maintain its vitality and bring more benefits to people in China and the world.
25.What advantage does Western medicine have over TCM?
A.It is a symbol of national civilization. B.It is more successful in recovery after surgery.
C.It is more effective in surgery. D.It is more effective in treating chronic diseases.
26.According to paragraph 4, which of the following aspects is NOT included in the Chinese government supports for TCM?
A.It calls on the public to support TCM.
B.It combines Internet Technology with TCM.
C.It makes better use of the advantages of TCM .
D.It increases TCM services in hospitals and medical centers.
27.What can be inferred about the author’s opinion on TCM?
A.Supportive. B.Critical.
C.Unclear. D.Skeptical.
28.What can be a suitable title for the text?
A.TCM Beats Western Medicine. B.Chinese Government Promotes TCM.
C.TCM is One of China's Cultural Symbols. D.TCM Breaks New Ground.

根据第四段“The supportive policies of the Chinese Government will focus on three aspects. The function of TCM in disease prevention and recovery will also be enhanced.(中国政府的支持政策将集中在三个方面。第一是加强医疗机构的中医服务。第二是将互联网技术应用于中医管理,包括建立一个包含中医电子病历和处方的数据库。第三是更好地发挥中医的优势,特别是针灸和推拿。中医在疾病预防和康复方面的作用也将得到加强。)”可知,中国政府对中医的支持包括加强医疗机构的中医服务(对应D选项)、将互联网技术与中医结合(对应B选项)、更好地利用中医的优势(对应C选项),而A选项It calls on the public to support TCM.(它号召公众支持中医)在文中未提及。故选A。

I don’t remember exactly when my love for second-hand books began, but I remember walking along the footpaths of Kings Circle, where my aunt lived, to make my birthday money stretch further by seeing just how many Agatha Christies I could buy.
For many like me, there is a joy that comes from looking through other people’s collections — and often accidentally discovering the kinds of writing you had not known existed. That is, after all, what second-hand bookshops were created for, I think.
It was in Literati Bookshop in Goa that I picked up my son Re’s first cookbook — My Learn to Cook Book, originally gifted to a Sherry in 1973 by Aunty Banso and Uncle Keki, going by the inscription (题字) inside. Also written alongside, in a different handwriting, was “Sherry’s first cooking book.” Maybe this was done by Sherry or her parent. I can’t tell. What I can say is that they did have a lot of fun cooking from this book as Re and I did — we made baked potatoes, zoo biscuits and fruit cakes from the recipes inside.
Yashasvi Vachhani, a Mumbai-based writer and a second-hand book lover, said, “I once picked up a copy of Embers by Sandor Marai which had notes and thoughts written in green ink on the margin (边缘). The whole experience of reading the book was like having a conversation with the previous reader, agreeing with a few points, and adding my own thoughts. It was a great experience, one I still remember fondly.”
The most precious second-hand book experience for me was receiving a copy of a dictionary that my late father-in-law had lovingly saved since it was first gifted to his son in 1980 and then came to mine, 38 years later. “I feel like a part of history, Mamma!” Re said, when he read the inscription inside from his grandfather to his father.
He is. We all are when we hold a second-hand book in our hands.
29.Why does the author like visiting second-hand bookshops?
A.She is on a very tight budget. B.She is quite into old editions.
C.She comes upon unexpected finds. D.It enables her to meet like-minded people.
30.What can we learn about Re’s first cookbook?
A.It witnessed much family cooking time. B.It was passed down through generations.
C.It recorded Sherry’s cooking journey in detail. D.It was intended as a gift from his aunt and uncle.
31.What can we learn about Yashasvi Vachhani’s experience of reading Embers?
A.She shared her thoughts with the previous reader.
B.She took pleasure in reading the handwritten notes.
C.She tried not to be influenced by the handwritten notes.
D.She agreed with just a few points the writer made in the book.
32.Which can be a suitable title for the text?
A.My idea about book shopping B.Old books: a hidden part of family history
C.My passion for reading second-hand books D.Reading: a family tradition that has been passed down
【答案】29.C 30.A 31.B 32.C
根据第二段中“For many like me, there is a joy that comes from looking through other people’s collections — and often accidentally discovering the kinds of writing you had not known existed. (对于许多像我一样的人来说,翻阅别人的收藏是一种快乐——经常会意外地发现你以前不知道的那种作品)”可知,作者喜欢二手书店的原因是能遇到意外的发现。故选C项。
30.细节理解题。根据第三段中“What I can say is that they did have a lot of fun cooking from this book as Re and I did — we made baked potatoes, zoo biscuits and fruit cakes from the recipes inside. (我能说的是,他们确实从这本书中获得了很多烹饪的乐趣,就像我和Re一样——我们根据书中的食谱制作了烤土豆、动物园饼干和水果蛋糕)”可知,这本烹饪书见证了多个家庭的烹饪时光。故选A项。
根据第四段中Yashasvi Vachhani所说的话“I once picked up a copy of Embers by Sandor Marai which had notes and thoughts written in green ink on the margin (边缘). The whole experience of reading the book was like having a conversation with the previous reader, agreeing with a few points, and adding my own thoughts. It was a great experience, one I still remember fondly. (我曾淘到一本Sandor Marai的《余烬》,书页边缘用绿色墨水写满了批注和感想。阅读这本书的整个过程,就像在与前一位读者对话——我认同某些观点,又添上自己的思考。这是一次美妙的体验,至今回想起来仍让我心生欢喜)”可知,在阅读这本书时,Yashasvi感觉像是在与前一位读者对话,并享受这种体验。这说明她喜欢阅读手写批注。故选B项。
32.主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是全文首句中的“I don’t remember exactly when my love for second-hand books began (我不记得我对二手书的喜爱是什么时候开始的)”和全文末句“We all are when we hold a second-hand book in our hands. (当我们手里拿着一本二手书的时候,我们都是这样)”可知,文章围绕对作者对二手书的热爱展开,讲述了自己淘二手书、发现烹饪书等经历,以及Yashasvi的阅读体验,体现了二手书承载的情感连接。因此,C项“我对阅读二手书的热情”最契合文章主旨,适合作为文章标题。故选C项。
1、 任务型阅读
Two years ago, Laura Eshelman was struggling with a mental problem. And to top it off, she was having trouble finding work.
One day, she was leaving a downtown business where she had yet another job application rejected (拒绝). Feeling extremely disappointed, she decided to go to the Whole Foods across the street and found something for her hungry stomach.
As she crossed the street, Eshelman noticed a man, who was asking for money on the corner. His messy hair and clothing made it seem like he’d been living outside for a while. She watched as he asked a passerby for change, but she even didn’t look at him.
As Eshelman approached, the man turned his attention to her, and again he asked if he could have a little bit of money. “Leave me alone. I don’t have anything to give you. Just go away!”, Eshelman shouted, almost giving vent to (发泄) all her negative feelings. But these unkind words were just what made her feel regretful and ashamed later.
The man was obviously embarrassed as well as a little surprised. It was normal for him to be refused, but not usually in such a rude way. He just lowered his head and Eshelman continued into the grocery store. After picking up some bread and a bottle of water, she went to the checkout to pay. And it was at that moment that she found her purse, where she had put all her money and important papers, was missing.

对于推测划线单词或短语的含义,可以依据定义、同位语、文章中的例子、对比关系或比较关系、构词法、并列结构、因果关系等来解题;
对于推测代词含义,可以从宏观上充分把握代词指代内容涉及段落的整体含义,并从微观入手抓住关键词或关键句,弄清逻辑关系(因果关系,转折关系,补充说明,对比关系等)来解题;

9.The writer thinks the most significant quality of a friend is ________.
A.honesty B.reliability C.humor D.understanding
10.Which one may be a fair-weather friend?
A.One that is always there for you. B.One that distances you when you’re poor.
C.One that recognises others’ good points. D.One that enjoys the same things you enjoy.

A.The qualities of a good friend. B.The significance of having a good friend.
C.The tips for getting along with a good friend. D.The good opportunities for finding a good friend.
