It was a warm afternoon in July. Our class went on a trip to Taiping Lake. At the lake, our teacher told us to put on life jackets. I thought it was heavy and uncomfortable, so I didn’t want to wear it.
Just then, our teacher said, “Tom, rules are rules. A life jacket can save your life. Please put it on before you row a boat.” I didn’t want to argue, so I slowly put on the life jacket.
The boat was moving gently. Suddenly, a strong wind blew, and the boat rocked from side to side. I lost my balance and fell into the cold water.

For a second, I felt scared and tried to move my arms, but I couldn’t reach anything in the deep water. To my surprise, the life jacket brought me back to the surface. I could breathe and stayed afloat easily.
The teacher quickly pulled me back into the boat. I was shaking, but I was safe.
From that day on, I always wore a life jacket when I was near deep water, and I reminded others, “Safety first. Don’t forget your life jacket!”

Today, in our class, many students shared stories about accidents. I was especially impressed by Tom’s story. Tom fell into the lake, but his life jacket helped him stay afloat. His story reminds us that accidents can happen to anyone, at any time. We must always think about safety.
When we are near water, make sure to follow these rules:
First, always follow safety instructions. Teachers and adults remind us because they want to protect us.
Second, always wear a life jacket when you are on a boat or near deep water.
Third, don’t play near deep water alone.
Let’s make smart choices, protect ourselves, and also remind our friends to be careful. If we all pay attention to safety, we can enjoy every activity happily and return home safely.
