The card reader kept rejecting his payment. He had apparently gone over his limit for the month. He was confused and more than a little distressed about the situation. While I was trying to decide if I would offer to step in and pay the difference, the young man checking him out said, “Sir, this happens all the time. It’s not a problem.” The line behind us was growing long, but the young man didn’t show an ounce of impatience or irritation. He confirmed that the man was, indeed, over his limit for the month.Turned out, he wasn’t over by much, so the checker helped the customer determine which two or three items that he could make do without until his account was topped up. “You’ ll definitely want to keep the milk and the butter and the eggs and the bread.” Then the clerk pulled out a jar of salsa, a bottle of juice and some crackers that he and his customer agreed could wait until the beginning of the new month. The young man assured his older customer, once again, that this was a common occurrence and not a problem at all. The man left with his dignity intact (完好无损的) and, no doubt, with a renewed sense of loyalty to that grocery-store chain. When it was my turn, I made note of the name on his nametag, and when I got home, I sent an e-mail to the manager of the store praising the employee for his kindness and customer service. I got a return e-mail that day with thanks from the manager, letting me know that my note would be included in the employee’ s file and noted each time he was up for a raise or promotion. While his act of kindness made a positive impact on the life of someone who was struggling that day, I hope my act of kindness at least had a positive effect on that young man’s career — and possibly his paycheck. 4. What happened when the elderly man was using his SNAP card? A. He forgot his PIN code. B. He was over his monthly budget. C. The card reader was broken. D. He got angry with the store’s service. 5. Which words can best describe the young man? A. Helpful and considerate. B. Clever and loyal. C. Generous and energetic. D. Brave and diligent. 6. What did the author do for the young man?. A. She praised him on the spot. B. She promoted him to be the manager. C. She gave him a pay raise. D. She informed the manager of his deed. 7. What is the author’s purpose of writing the text? A. To call on people to help each other. B. To show her gratitude to the young man. C. To share a story about the act of kindness. D. To express her sympathy for the elderly man. B 5. A 6. D 7. 根据第一段“The card reader kept rejecting his payment. He had apparently gone over his limit for the month.(读卡器一直拒绝他付款,他显然已经超过了这个月的限额)”可知,在老人使用SNAP卡结账时,读卡器一直拒绝他付款,显然他超出了每月的支付预算。 根据第三段“Turned out, he wasn’t over by much, so the checker helped the customer determine which two or three items that he could make do without until his account was topped up.(结果,他没有超支太多,所以这个收银员帮助这个顾客确定在他的账户充值之前,他可以不需要哪两三样物品)”和第五段“The young man assured his older customer, once again, that this was a common occurrence and not a problem at all. The man left with his dignity intact (完好无损的) and, no doubt, with a renewed sense of loyalty to that grocery-store chain.(年轻人再次向他的老顾客保证,这是经常发生的事,根本不是问题。这个人带着完整的尊严离开了,毫无疑问,他对这家连锁杂货店又有了一种忠诚感)”可知,这个年轻的收银员不仅帮助老人解决了问题,还非常体贴了保护了他的自尊心。由此推知,他既乐于助人,又体贴周到。故选A。 根据第六段“When it was my turn, I made note of the name on his nametag, and when I got home, I sent an e-mail to the manager of the store praising the employee for his kindness and customer service.(轮到我的时候,我记下了他名牌上的名字。回到家后,我给店经理发了一封电子邮件,称赞他的善良和对顾客的服务)”可知,作者将这个收银员的行为告诉了经理。故选D。 【7题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段“While his act of kindness made a positive impact on the life of someone who was struggling that day, I hope my act of kindness at least had a positive effect on that young man’s career — and possibly his paycheck.(虽然他的善举对那个正在挣扎的人的生活产生了积极的影响,但我希望我的善举至少对那个年轻人的职业生涯产生了积极的影响——可能还有他的薪水)”和文章内容可推知,本文主要是为了分享一个关于善举的故事。故选C。 C Rembrandt van Rijn, Dutch Baroque painter and printmaker, one of the greatest storytellers in the history of art, has an unusual ability to express people in their various moods. Rembrandt is also known as a painter of light and shade and as an artist who favored an uncompromising (不妥协的) realism. Early in his career and for some time, Rembrandt painted mainly portraits (肖像). Although he continued to paint portraits throughout his career, he did so less frequently over time. Nearly one-tenth of his paintings consist of studies of his own face as well as more formal self-portraits. Seen over his whole career, the changes in Rembrandt’s style are worthy of attention. His approach to composition and his expression of space and light tend to make a gradual change, even within a single work. The painting known as Night Watch (1642) was clearly a turning point in his stylistic development. These changes are not the result of an involuntary evolution (无意识的演进); rather they should be seen as a clear-minded search in pictural and narrative sides, sometimes as if he were in discussion with his great previous generations. Rembrandt quickly achieved fame among Dutch art lovers and an art-buying public for his history paintings as well as his portraits and self-portraits. His unusual drawings, which in fact were done as practice exercises or as studies for other works, were also collected by current art lovers. Certain artists in 18th-century Germany and Venice even adopted his style. He was respected during the Romantic era and was considered a forerunner (先驱) of the Romantic movement; from that point he was regarded as one of the greatest figures in art history. In the Netherlands itself, his fortunes have once again risen, and he has become a symbol of both greatness and Dutchness. 8. Why is Rembrandt called “one of the greatest storytellers in the history of art” in Paragraph 1? A. He was good at telling good stories. B. His own life story is well worth telling. C. He could use light and shade skillfully. D. He could show people’s moods vividly. 9. What features Rembrandt’s early career? A. His preference for portraits. B. His vivid description of beauty. C. His unintended search of changes. D. His high fame among art lovers. 10. What can we expect from Night Watch? A. A painting style without any change. B. Different expression of space and light. C. An involuntary evolution in narrative respects. D. Similar content to that of those painted before. 11. What do the underlined words “that point” in the last paragraph refer to? A. Rembrandt’s contributions to the Romantic movement. B. Rembrandt’s influence on contemporary art lovers. C. Rembrandt’s unusual portraits and self-portraits. D. Rembrandt’s influence on artists in 18th-century Europe. D 9. A 10. B 11. 根据文章第一段“Rembrandt van Rijn, Dutch Baroque painter and printmaker, one of the greatest storytellers in the history of art, has an unusual ability to express people in their various moods. (伦勃朗·凡·瑞恩,荷兰巴洛克画家和版画家,艺术史上最伟大的说书人之一,具有卓越的表达人们各种情绪的能力。)”可知,伦勃朗被称为“艺术史上最伟大的说书人之一”是因为他能生动地表现人们的情绪。故选D项。 【9题详解】 细节理解题。根据文章第二段首句“Early in his career and for some time, Rembrandt painted mainly portraits (肖像). (在伦勃朗早期的职业生涯中,有一段时间,他主要画肖像画。)”可知,伦勃朗早期的职业生涯特点是他喜欢肖像画。故选A项。 根据文章第三段“Seen over his whole career, the changes in Rembrandt’s style are worthy of attention. His approach to composition and his expression of space and light tend to make a gradual change, even within a single work. The painting known as Night Watch (1642) was clearly a turning point in his stylistic development. (纵观伦勃朗的整个艺术生涯,其艺术风格的变化值得关注。他的构图方式以及他对空间和光线的表达往往会发生渐进的变化,即使在一件作品中也是如此。这幅名为《守夜人》(1642)的画作显然是他风格发展的一个转折点。)”可知,我们能从《守夜》中了解到空间与光的不同表达。故选B项。 【11题详解】 词句猜测题。根据划线词所在的句子“He was respected during the Romantic era and was considered a forerunner (先驱) of the Romantic movement; from that point he was regarded as one of the greatest figures in art history. In the Netherlands itself, his fortunes have once again risen, and he has become a symbol of both greatness and Dutchness.(他在浪漫主义时代受到尊敬,被认为是浪漫主义运动的先驱,从那一刻起,他被认为是艺术史上最伟大的人物之一。在荷兰本土,他的财富再次上升,他已经成为伟大和荷兰的象征。)”可知,此处that point指代Rembrandt van Rijn对浪漫主义运动的贡献。故选A项。 D You are more likely to think of the information that is repeated to be true than the information you hear only once. You assume that if people are going to put in effort to repeat a statement, this reflects the truth of the statement. Simply repeating some pieces of information does not actually make it true, but this tendency — also called the illusory (错觉的) truth effect — is a prejudice that can lead you to draw the wrong conclusions. An important step in decreasing the negative influence of prejudices in thinking is to be aware of them. To what degree are people aware of the illusory truth effect? This question was addressed in the journal Cognition by Simone Mattavelli. In the critical study, participants did two sessions. In one session, they read about a study in which people were exposed to trivia (琐事) statements and then were asked whether both statements they had heard before as well as new statements were true. They were asked to predict the percentage of each statement that would be judged as true. At another session a few days later, participants actually performed this study, reading a set of 20 trivia statements and then judging the truth of 40 statements, half of which were the ones they saw earlier and the other half of which were new. This study replicated the illusory truth effect. People were more likely to judge statements they had seen before as true than statements that were new. Two interesting findings emerged from the predictions. First, participants tended to underestimate the size of the illusory truth effect for everyone. Second, participants were more wrong when predicting their own performance compared to predicting the performance of another person. This work is particularly important in light of the amount of misinformation presented in social media. Many people are influencing public opinions about political and economic matters. Social media websites with misinformation will lead people to believe this information is true just because it is stated. 12. What is Simone’s study mainly about concerning the illusory truth effect? A. People’s awareness of it. B. People’s reaction to it. C. Its causes. D. Its process. 13. How did the participants engage in the first session of the study? A. Reading repeating and judging. B. Reading, assessing and forecasting. C. Recording, judging and predicting. D. Predicting, observing and reflecting. 14. What does the underlined word “replicate” in paragraph 4 mean? A. Correspond with. B. Be contrary to. C. Put forward. D. Account for. 15. What is the author’s attitude toward Simone’s study? A. Unclear. B. Dismissive. C. Doubtful. D. Approving. A 13. B 14. A 15. 根据第二段“To what degree are people aware of the illusory truth effect? This question was addressed in the journal Cognition by Simone Mattavelli.(人们对真相错觉效应的意识程度如何?Simone Mattavelli在《认知》杂志上发表了关于这个问题的文章。)”可知,Simone的研究主要是关于人们对真相错觉效应的意识。故选A。 根据第三段“In one session, they read about a study in which people were exposed to trivia statements and then were asked whether both statements they had heard before as well as new statements were true, They were asked to predict the percentage of each statement that would be judged as true.(在一个环节中,他们阅读了一项研究,在这项研究中,人们接触到一些琐事陈述,然后被问及他们之前听到过的陈述和新陈述是否都是真实的。他们被要求预测每个陈述被判断为真实的百分比。)”可知,在第一环节中,参与者通过阅读琐事陈述,评估这些陈述的真实性,并预测这些陈述被判断为真实的百分比,即参与者是通过“阅读、评估和预测”参与研究的第一部分的。故选B。 【14题详解】 词句猜测题。根据划线词所在句下文“People were more likely to judge statements they had seen before as true than statements that were new.(人们更倾向于认为他们之前看到过的陈述是真实的,而不是那些新的陈述。)” 故选A。 根据最后一段“This work is particularly important in light of the amount of misinformation presented in social media.(考虑到社交媒体上存在的大量错误信息,这项工作尤为重要。)” I have the same 24 hours in a day as you do, but I have made specific choice that allow me to make the most of every day and still feel happy and relaxed. ____16____ Pick the most important. ____17____ Focus on spending time that for you is fun and productive. I chose the life of an adviser because I like to work with companies, but don't want the life of a big company CEO. My choices are based on the lifestyle I want. Combine your activities. Many people go crazy trying to figure out how to spend time with friends, family, work, play, etc. ____18____ Find ways to enjoy them in a combined manner. Build your social life around people in your work environment. Find people in your company who share common interests and develop your career (职业) around the people and activities you love. ____19____ You would think learning takes more time from you, but actually there are always new ways of doing things that can save you time on daily tasks, freeing you up for the most important. Always be looking for a new way to gain back an hour here or there. Lighten up. The world won't come to an end in most cases just because you left a few things undone. Celebrate progress and keep refining (改进) toward a happy productive existence. ____20____ Every completion is a small victory that adds up in a big way. A. Speed up. B. Be an active learner. C. Stop trying to balance time between them all. D. Make choices about what is meaningful in your life. E. The things you do well usually give you greater joy. F. Perhaps these tips will help you make the most of your time. G. This is why making lists is important in any productivity handbook. F 17. D 18. C 19. B 20. 【16题详解】 上文“I have the same 24 hours in a day as you do, but 1 have made specific choice that allow me to make the most of every day and still feel happy and relaxed.( 我和你一样,每天都有24小时,但我做了具体的选择,让我充分利用每一天,仍然感到快乐和放松)”说明作者做出选择,充分利用每一天,但仍旧感到快乐和轻松,根据下文段落小标题可知,下文就如何充分利用每一天给出了建议,因此空格处应是承上启下,F项中的“help you make the most of your time”与上文“to make the most of every day”一致,“tips”引出下文的建议,因此F项“也许这些建议会帮助你充分利用你的时间”符合语境,承上启下。故选F。 【17题详解】 根据段落标题“Pick the most important.”可知,本段建议挑选最重要的,下文“Focus on spending time that for you is fun and productive.( 把时间花在那些对你来说有趣和富有成效的事情上)”说明要挑选一些有趣的和富有成效的事情去做,D项中的“what is meaningful in your life”与标题中的“the most important”一致,下文是对“Make choices”具体解释。 【18题详解】 上文“Many people go crazy trying to figure out how to spend time with friends, family, work, play, etc.( 许多人疯狂地试图弄清楚如何在朋友,家庭,工作,娱乐等方面度过时间)”说明许多人想要弄清楚在生活中如何分配好时间,下文“Find ways to enjoy them in a combined manner.( 找到一种结合的方式来享受它们)”说明可以把事情组合在一起享受,因此推断空格处与上文是转折关系,说明不要试图均衡时间,C项“不要试图在它们之间平衡时间”符合语境。 根据下文“You would think learning takes more time from you, but actually there are always new ways of doing things that can save you time on daily tasks, freeing you up for the most important. Always be looking for a new way to gain back an hour here or there. Always be looking for a new way to gain back an hour here or there. (你可能会认为学习需要花费了你更多的时间,但实际上总有一些新的方法可以为你节省出做日常事务的时间,为你腾出时间去做最重要的事情。寻找在这里或者那里赢回一个小时的新方法)”可推断,本段讲述学习虽然花费很多时间,但总是能有一些方法为你节省时间做其他事情,因此要做有效的学习者。因此推断B项“做有效的学习者”为段落标题,故选B。 【20题详解】 下文“Every completion is a small victory that adds up in a big way.( 每一次的完成都是一个小的胜利,累积起来就是一个大的胜利)”说明事情要一件一件去做,G项中的“making lists”与之呼应,因此推断G项“这就是为什么列清单在任何生产手册中都很重要的原因”符合语境,this指代上文“The world won't come to an end in most cases just because you left a few things undone. Celebrate progress and keep refining (改进) toward a happy productive existence.( 在大多数情况下,世界不会因为你没做完几件事而走向末日。庆祝进步,不断改进走向一个快乐而富有成效的存在)”解释了列出清单一件一件完成任务的原因。故选G。 【点睛】 第三部分 语言运用(共两节,满分30分) 第一节(共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后各题所给的A、B、C 和 D 四个选项中,选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。 A few years ago, I started using a cane (拐杖) to walk. Adjusting to it ___21___ my daily life in small but significant ways. The thing about walking with a cane was that I only had one ___22___ to carry things. The air was fresh, and the autumn leaves made a pattern of red and yellow on the streets. I was walking home from school, my mind lost in thoughts of upcoming exams, when I noticed an elderly man struggling with a heavy box at the corner of the street. He was out of breath, his face flushed (红) from the effort, and it was clear he needed help. I approached him, my heart filled with sympathy. “Sir, do you need some assistance?” I asked, trying to sound as polite as possible. The man looked up, his eyes meeting mine with a mix of relief and gratitude. “Could you please help me carry this box to my apartment? It’s just around the corner,” he replied, his voice shaky but warm. I nodded and, together, we lifted the box and began our slow journey to his home. As we walked, I learned that his name was Mr. Chen, and he had recently moved into the neighborhood. His children lived far away, and he was trying to settle into his new home alone. The box contained his most treasured belongings, books and photographs that held memories of a lifetime. Our path was not easy. The box was heavy, and the streets were wet from rain. We slipped once or twice, but we managed to keep our footing and our spirits high. Mr. Chen told me stories of his youth, and I shared my dreams for the future. It was a strange connection, formed in the struggle of a single moment. Finally, we reached his apartment building, and I helped him carry the box up the stairs. He insisted that I come in for a cup of tea as a thank-you. Over hot drinks, I told him that all of my family members are literature enthusiasts. My uncle works at a publishing house. He said he loves writing poetry. Then we exchanged contact information with each other. As I left, Mr. Chen handed me a pile of papers, on which were poems from his youth. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Upon hearing this good news, I contacted Mr. Chen to inquire if he would be willing to publish it. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】One possible version: As I left, Mr. Chen handed me a pile of papers, on which were poems from his youth. I thanked him, putting the papers into my bag with a promise to read them later. Back at home, I carefully read through the poems, feeling a deep admiration for their beauty and sincerity. I was deeply moved by the raw emotion and the beauty captured in each verse. I eagerly recommended them to my uncle, who worked at a publishing house. He was equally impressed by the poems and immediately contacted booksellers, discussing the possibility of publishing Mr. Chen’s collection. Upon hearing this good news, I contacted Mr. Chen to inquire if he would be willing to publish it. He was overcome with joy, his voice trembling as he expressed his gratitude. He had never imagined that his lifelong passion for poetry would lead to such an opportunity. With the support of my uncle and the enthusiasm of the booksellers, Mr. Chen’s poems began to take shape as a beautiful collection, ready to be shared with the world. It was a heartwarming reminder that even in the simplest of moments, we can make a lasting impact on others’ lives. 词汇激活 行为类 ①充满:be overcome with /be overwhelmed with ②联系:contact/get in touch with ③影响:make an impact on/influence 情绪类 ①感动的:moved/touched ②感激:gratitude/thankfulness 【点睛】[高分句型1] I eagerly recommended them to my uncle, who worked at a publishing house. B Not too long ago, I was at the grocery store with my husband, and an elderly man in front of us was using a Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) card. C Rembrandt van Rijn, Dutch Baroque painter and printmaker, one of the greatest storytellers in the history of art, has an unusual ability to express people in their various moods. D Rembrandt’s influence on artists in 18th-century Europe. D You are more likely to think of the information that is repeated to be true than the information you hear only once. A. Reading, repeating and judging. B. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
