Look at the middle finger on your right hand. Is there a bump (凸起) on it? It’s probably something you don’t notice. But for Qiao Feier, an 18-year-old girl from Xi’an, it’s an identity mark of growing up as a teenager.
This August, Qiao held a photographic exhibition (展览) named Shaping in Xi’an, showing 117 photos of different students’ bumps. “In the past 12 years of my life, my classmates and I have been working hard to become good students in the eyes of our teachers and parents,” Qiao told Teens. “One day, I started to realize how this bump is noticed along with the pressure and pain we carry.”
The bump, formed by holding her pen for too long, drew Qiao’s attention from a young age. “My finger is deformed (变形的), just like how I feel at school,” she said. Surprisingly, when she asked her classmates and family, many of them did not notice the bump. “I want to make them realize that we are shaped by society.”

Everyone has one.”
The exhibition was a huge success, with many visitors leaving with a heavy heart. “It really got me thinking,” someone said. A lady told Qiao that after seeing the exhibition, she felt sorry because her daughter also had this bump. “I feel like I put too much pressure on her,” she said.
“Everyone is shaped by society, at every period of our lives,” Qiao said. “but I want people to at least realize this and try to keep their true selves even under this pressure.”

The Last Kids on Earth is a series of books by Max Brallier. The first book of this best-selling series came out in 2015. And its graphic (漫画) version was published in 2024. Together with a good painter Brian Churilla, Max Brallier gave graphic-novel lovers a chance to connect with this magical story.
The story takes place in a town called Wakefield. It’s written from the view of 13-year-old Jack Sullivan. But if the world was ending, we could!
Jack, the hero of the graphic novel, tries to make the apocalypse (末日) more fun. He teams up with his best friend Quint and the school bully, Dirk Savage. Jack’s most exciting exploration is to save a girl named June del Toro. He believes June needs a hero, but later he finds that she clearly doesn’t need to be saved. Instead, ▲ . When the four kids want to leave together the next day, a monster (怪物) called Blarg is waiting for them outside. Do they make it out alive?
I think of The Last Kids on Earth: The Graphic Novel as an adventure novel first, rather than a horror (恐怖) one. Although there are horrible characters in it, it is an adventure story: the action, the comedy, with a little bit of horror. ①Going to the doctor can seem boring as a child and even as a teen. But when do people really start taking their health seriously? According to a survey of 2,000 adults in the UK, people don’t start seriously to pay attention to their health until the age of 38—and often only after some health scare.
②The study found that some people took better care of themselves only after they experienced new pains and reached a milestone (里程碑) birthday. Others were warned to take action after a loved one died or experienced a health problem. Famous people also play a role in making people take notice of their health. After King Charles was reported to be going through treatment for cancer, the UK National Health Service’s webpage about the condition received more visits than before.
③The study also found that 11 percent of adults said they still didn’t take their health very seriously. Nearly half didn’t take much notice at a younger age as they felt fine most of the time. However, 36 percent simply felt they were too young to need to worry about it. And 25 percent felt that nothing bad would happen to them.
④It can be very easy to disregard your health especially when you are young or you feel that everything is OK. No one wants to think that there might be something wrong, but often the early signs of a health problem are not clear. Sometimes it can take a bit of a wake-up call before you start taking your health more seriously, whether that is falling ill yourself or seeing a loved one or even a well-known person experience a health problem.
⑤There’s no one-size-fits-all way when we talk about keeping healthy.
12.What can we learn from Paragraph 1?
A.Going to the doctor is boring for everyone.
B.2,000 children in the UK develop health problems.
C.Teenagers in the UK take their health very seriously.
D.People often start taking their health seriously after some health scare.
13.How is Paragraph 3 developed?
A.By telling stories. B.By explaining causes.
C.By listing numbers. D.By comparing differences.
14.What does the underlined word “disregard” probably mean in Paragraph 4?
A.考虑 B.忽视 C.保持 D.破坏
15.Which of the following will most probably be discussed next?
A.Plans for the research in the future. B.Medical problems of famous people.
C.Suggestions on how to improve health. D.Reasons why people fail to keep healthy.
