Instead of standard bases, matball uses large gym mats (垫子) as bases because multiple players can be on a base at one time. Teens have the most fun when they work as a team and run the bases in a large group or create distractions to get the fastest players home. Handball To play handball, you need a large gymnasium with lots of open wall space and some handballs. You can work on handball skills and play games on an individual basis or in groups — whatever works for your situation. Teens use only their hands to hit the ball toward the wall and then keep hitting it back as it bounces off the wall. Dodgeball There are a ton of reasons to play dodgeball. Gym class dodgeball is highly competitive, requires little equipment, and involves the whole class at the same time. The point of the game is to defeat all the players on the other team by hitting them with a ball or catching a ball they throw. Four Square This game is exactly as it sounds, made up of four squares. All you need to make a court is some tape and space where you can tape down a grid featuring four equal, intersecting squares. The goal is for an individual player to get others out and advance to the fourth square, which is the highest level. Any number of teens can play four square because it is super fast-paced and features a line for waiting players who enter the game when someone gets out. 1. Who is the text intended for? A. Teenagers. B. Office workers. C. Elderly people. D. Mid-aged people. 2. What’s the requirement for handball? A. Two teams. B. Large mats. C. Open wall space. D. Flat ground. 3. What is special about Four Square? A. Multiple players can be on a base at one time. B. Players start from the lowest to the highest level. C It is only suitable for group work in the game. D. Players should hit other opponents with a ball. 1. A 2. C 3. Born in Panama, Millender grew up in a racially diverse family and community. Her mother was Afro-Latina Panamanian, and her father was indigenous (本地的) Guna Panamanian. When Millender was 12, she arrived in Brooklyn with her mother, hoping to bring her a better life. They experienced poverty, and Millender saw the access and quality of health care people received. “My mother didn’t speak English, and when she tried to get care, people ignored her,” she says. Then she moved to Florida as a teenager and joined the army after high school, which allowed her to earn her undergraduate and master’s degrees in nursing. Working in emergency departments, which often cared for the uninsured, she witnessed families struggling with the same challenges her mother had. “You know they don’t have the resources to take care of their loved ones once they are discharged from the hospital, or they don’t understand what the doctors and nurses are telling them because they speak a different language or an indigenous language,” she says. Now as a professor at Florida State University College of Nursing, Millender co-founded an institute and serves as its co-director. The institute focuses on addressing the causes of health inequities— from language and cultural barriers to mental-health challenges. Drawing on her own experiences, she spends time learning from communities about their needs and the obstacles they face. That includes incorporating, rather than dismissing, cultural beliefs, and community-based programs that connect people with health care, often for the first time. Recently, Millender has seen her work come full circle with programs she has launched in her native Panama to improve health care for indigenous people. “I feel very privileged, so I have to give back,” she says. 4. What inspired Millender to become a nurse? A. Her parents’ expectations. B. Her childhood experiences. C. Her desire to get out of poverty. D. Her love for science and medicine. 5. What challenge did Millender’s mother face in accessing health care? A. The unstable job. B. The language barrier. C. The lack of personal insurance. D. The lack of family companionship. 6. What does paragraph 4 tell us about Millender? A. Her wish to attain professorship. B. Her relationship with the community. C. Her efforts to tackle health unfairness. D. Her opinions on professional health care. 7. Which word best describes Millender? A. Ambitious. B. Honest. C. Strict. D. Defensive. B 5. B 6. C 7. 根据第一段中“Becoming a nurse was practically a natural choice for little Eugenia Millender, who began her years of health service by helping her grandmother, who didn’t like needles, with her injections.(对小Eugenia Millender来说,成为一名护士几乎是自然而然的选择,她从帮助害怕打针的祖母注射开始了自己的健康服务生涯。)” 根据第二段中“‘My mother didn’t speak English, and when she tried to get care, people ignored her,’ she says.(她说:‘我母亲不会说英语,当她试图寻求医疗帮助时,人们都不理她。’)” 根据第四段中“The institute focuses on addressing the causes of health inequities— from language and cultural barriers to mental-health challenges. Drawing on her own experiences, she spends time learning from communities about their needs and the obstacles they face.(该研究所专注于解决医疗不公平的根源——从语言和文化障碍到心理健康问题。她凭借自身的经历,花时间从社区中了解他们的需求以及面临的障碍。)”可知,第四段讲述了Millender为解决医疗不公平问题所做的努力。故选C。 【7题详解】 推理判断题。结合全文可知,Millender从童年经历出发投身护理行业,目睹医疗不公后创办研究所解决医疗不平等问题,还回到巴拿马助力本土原住民医疗改善,能看出她有远大的抱负和追求。ambitious译为“有雄心的;有抱负的”。故选A。 C A large beverage (饮料) company will be using over 4.1 billion kilograms of plastic a year by the year 2030, unless it stops using single-use plastic, according to a recent report from the conservation organization Oceana. Oceana also estimates that by 2030, an annual 602 million kilograms of the company’s plastic packaging will be polluting the world’s ocean and waterways. The report says that this amount is enough to fill the stomachs of 18 million blue whales. Oceana made its estimates using the company’s own reported data on its use of plastic packaging between 2018 and 2023, and a forecast of the company’s future sales growth based on past trends. A 2024 study found that a main product by the company is already the world’s worst plastic-polluting brand. Oceana points out the problem is the company’s use of single-use plastic instead of reusable packaging and that it should be solved first. Reusable bottles can be used up to 25 times if made of thicker plastic, and up to 50 times if made of glass. The company previously had a goal of using 25% reusable packaging by 2030, but announced that it had given up that goal at the end of 2024. Instead, the company says it will increase the use of recycled plastic in its packaging and increase the collection of single-use plastic bottles for further recycling. However, Oceana says that although the company has recently planned to rely on the use of recycled materials and collection of plastic for recycling, it won’t reduce the impact of its plastic use. The leader of Oceana said, “Single-use plastic is bad for the ocean, human health, and business. Recycling can’t solve the company’s out-of-control plastic problem. Reuse can.” “Single-use plastic bottles made with recycled content can — just like bottles made of original plastic — still cause ocean pollution and harm ocean life,” he added. As well as harming sea life, plastic use is also harmful to human health. Several studies have connected plastic pollution and microplastics to serious health conditions, such as cancer, heart disease, and dementia (痴呆). 8. How does the author introduce the topic of the text? A By raising questions. B. By citing a book. C. By making a prediction. D. By reporting historical statistics. 9. Why does the author mention “18 million blue whales” in paragraph 2? A. To report the data of the injured whales. B. To prove the success of wildlife conservation. C. To present the company’s future sales growth. D. To show the shocking amount of plastic waste. 10. What does Oceana suggest the company do to reduce plastic pollution? A. Collect single-use plastic bottles. B. Reduce production to cut plastic use. C. Invest in new plastic-degrading technologies. D. Replace single-use plastic with reusable packaging. 11. What is Oceana’s attitude to the company’s new plan? A. Supportive. B. Optimistic. C. Doubtful. D. Unconcerned. 【答案】8 C 9. D 10. D 11. 根据第一段“A large beverage (饮料) company will be using over 4.1 billion kilograms of plastic a year by the year 2030, unless it stops using single-use plastic, according to a recent report from the conservation organization Oceana. (根据环保组织Oceana的最新报告,除非停止使用一次性塑料,否则到2030年,一家大型饮料公司每年将使用超过41亿公斤的塑料)”可知,作者通过预测该公司2030年的塑料使用量引出话题。故选C项。 【9题详解】 推理判断题。根据第二段“Oceana also estimates that by 2030, an annual 602 million kilograms of the company’s plastic packaging will be polluting the world’s ocean and waterways. The report says that this amount is enough to fill the stomachs of 18 million blue whales. (Oceana还估计,到2030年,该公司每年将有6.02亿公斤的塑料包装污染全球海洋和水道。报告称,这个数量足以填满1800万头蓝鲸的胃)”可知,提到1800万头蓝鲸是为了凸显塑料垃圾数量惊人。故选D项。 【10题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段“Oceana points out the problem is the company’s use of single-use plastic instead of reusable packaging and that it should be solved first. (Oceana指出,问题在于该公司使用一次性塑料而非可重复使用的包装,这一问题应优先解决)”可知,Oceana建议该公司用可重复使用的包装替代一次性塑料。故选D项。 【11题详解】 推理判断题。根据第四段“However, Oceana says that although the company has recently planned to rely on the use of recycled materials and collection of plastic for recycling, it won’t reduce the impact of its plastic use. (然而,Oceana表示,尽管该公司最近计划依赖回收材料的使用和塑料回收收集,但这并不能减少其塑料使用的影响)”及“Recycling can’t solve the company’s out-of-control plastic problem. (回收无法解决该公司失控的塑料问题)”可知,Oceana对该公司的新计划持怀疑态度。故选C项。 D If you’ve ever thought it would be great to walk into a room and know whether a harmful airborne virus is hanging around, scientists have a device for you. Researchers have created a new machine, a little bigger than a bread maker, which can quickly detect the airborne viruses. Rajan Chakrabarty, a scientist at Washington University in St. Louis, worked with his team nonstop for three years to create the detector. One of the main challenges when they sample the airborne viruses is collecting enough air to concentrate viral particles (颗粒) at detectable levels. This detector pulls in 1,000 cubic meters of air each minute, compared to previous detectors which breathed in 2 to 8 cubic meters of air per minute. “To trap the virus, we create an artificial cyclone (旋风) inside the sampler,” Chakrabarty says. “By moving liquid around at a high rate, viruses get trapped in the cyclone wall and concentrated for analysis. Any virus not captured in the liquid is filtered (过滤) out with a HEPA filter. After five minutes, the liquid is pumped to a biosensor. The biosensor consists of an electrode attached to a specialized immune system protein that fights infections much like antibodies but is smaller and tougher. The biosensor is based on a detector,” To test the detector, the researchers sent the device to the apartments of two people with viral infections. “The device detected amounts of virus shed by the patients,” Chakrabarty says. Air collected from an empty conference room showed little sign of the virus. This indicates that the patients eliminated the virus and released it into the air through actions like breathing, talking, coughing, or sneezing, but only in very small amounts. There are still some challenges. For instance, the device is as noisy as a cleaner or a ringing phone. That’s probably too loud for continuous use in a classroom or office, but could be tolerated for 10 minutes. Such detectors cost much money to build in a research lab. Commercial versions may be too expensive for home use but could be used in hospitals, airports, and other public areas to survey for the virus. 12. What does the data in the first paragraph show about the new machine? A. The small size. B. The speedy virus detection. C. The sampling time. D. The limited detectable level. 13. What does Chakrabarty mainly say about the new machine in paragraph 2? A. Its working process. B. Its maximum volume. C. Its logical ability to analyse viruses. D. Its special system to concentrate air. 14. What does the underlined word “shed” in paragraph 3 mean? A. Discovered. B. Indicated. C. Controlled. D. Removed. 15. What is a suitable title for the text? A. A Machine: Trapping Viral Particles B. A Biosensor: Fighting Viral Infections C. A Detector: Spotting Viruses in the Air D. A Device: Collecting the Airborne Viruses 【答案】12. B 13. A 14. D 15. 根据第一段“One of the main challenges when they sample the airborne viruses is collecting enough air to concentrate viral particles (颗粒) at detectable levels. This detector pulls in 1,000 cubic meters of air each minute, compared to previous detectors which breathed in 2 to 8 cubic meters of air per minute. (当他们对空气中的病毒进行采样时,主要的挑战之一是收集足够的空气来将病毒颗粒浓缩到可检测的水平。这款探测器每分钟吸入1000立方米的空气,而之前的探测器每分钟仅吸入2到8立方米的空气)”可知,新探测器的空气吸入量远高于旧款,能更快收集足够空气浓缩病毒颗粒,体现了其病毒检测的高效性。故选B项。 【13题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段“To trap the virus, we create an artificial cyclone (旋风) inside the sampler (为了捕获病毒,我们在采样器内制造了一个人工旋风)”及“By moving liquid around at a high rate, viruses get trapped in the cyclone wall and concentrated for analysis. Any virus not captured in the liquid is filtered (过滤) out with a HEPA filter. After five minutes, the liquid is pumped to a biosensor. (通过高速搅动液体,病毒会被截留在旋风壁上并浓缩以进行分析,液体中未捕获的任何病毒都用高效微粒过滤器过滤掉,五分钟后,液体被泵入生物传感器)”可知,Chakrabarty主要介绍了探测器从捕获病毒、浓缩颗粒到用生物传感器检测的完整工作流程。故选A项。 根据第三段“The device detected amounts of virus shed by the patients,” Chakrabarty says. Air collected from an empty conference room showed little sign of the virus. This indicates that the patients eliminated the virus and released it into the air through actions like breathing, talking, coughing, or sneezing, but only in very small amounts. Learning a new language can be rewarding on many levels, both personally and professionally. ____16____. The cart was full, it was pouring freezing rain, and we wanted nothing more than to get the baby and groceries home and dry. To our horror, we found our keys locked in the car. We had no spare key, and we didn’t have the money to call a locksmith after our monthly shopping. I tried calling a local friend for help at a payphone while my poor husband attempted to unlock the car with a coat hanger for nearly 45 minutes. A young man came out of the store in a hurry, and I quickly asked him if he knew anything about car locks. After I explained the problem, he rushed over to help my husband while I watched his things and tried to keep our baby warm. Finally, he returned, cell phone in hand, and called the local police station for assistance. He and my husband couldn’t get the door open, but he thought that the police used to help people in this situation. The policeman tried hard, only to find the lock was quite uncommon and he had to give up. He advised us to call a tow truck (拖车). He sincerely apologized as he told us he had to leave. We thanked him for his attempts to help and kept trying to open the car ourselves. Right as we were about to give up, I saw a tow truck parked at a nearby restaurant and asked my husband to go and ask for help. The driver came over to us. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ We put our baby and groceries in the car and asked the driver how much we owed him. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 The driver came over to us. He said he’d noticed our dilemma and was more than willing to help us out by taking us to a repair shop he knew nearby. Without hesitation, he loaded our shopping cart into his truck and we all got in. As we drove to the shop, he chatted with us kindly, trying to ease our anxiety. When we arrived, the mechanic took a quick look at the lock and said it was a simple issue that he could fix in no time. True to his word, within a few minutes, the car door swung open effortlessly. Seeing our financial embarrassment, the driver insisted paying for the repair for us. We were moved and couldn’t say a word. We put our baby and groceries in the car and asked the driver how much we owed him. He shook his head and said, “No need to pay me. I’m just glad I could be of some assistance.” What he did was truly a big help, which made us feel extremely warm in the cold rain. We thanked him again and drove home, feeling grateful for the kindness of strangers. His act of kindness had not only solved our problem but also warmed our hearts in the cold November evening. 词汇激活 行为类 ① 帮忙:help sb out/assist sb/give sb a hand ② 装载:load...into.../put...into.../place...into... ③ 修理:fix/repair/mend ④ 支付:pay for/cover the cost of 情绪类 ① 感动的:moved/touched/affected ② 感激的:grateful/thankful/indebted 【点睛】【高分句型1】He said he’d noticed our dilemma and was more than willing to help us out by taking us to a repair shop he knew nearby. C. It is only suitable for group work in the game. D. Players should hit other opponents with a ball. B Becoming a nurse was practically a natural choice for little Eugenia Millender, who began her years of health service by helping her grandmother, who didn’t like needles, with her injections. A Ambitious. B. Honest. C. Strict. D. Defensive. C A large beverage (饮料) company will be using over 4.1 billion kilograms of plastic a year by the year 2030, unless it stops using single-use plastic, according to a recent report from the conservation organization Oceana. D If you’ve ever thought it would be great to walk into a room and know whether a harmful airborne virus is hanging around, scientists have a device for you. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
