Good afternoon, everyone. I’m Jack Brown. It’s really exciting to be here to talk about my writing. I’ve been writing stories since I was eight years old. My parents always read to me and I learned to read myself when I was four. I started inventing stories to read to my friend and he loved them. Then I sent one into a competition because my teacher suggested it. I won second prize and my story appeared in a magazine. I was so proud. People ask me where I usually write. I used to write in the library, but these days I write in my study. Another question is about where my ideas for stories come from. Some writers keep a notebook where they write down interesting things they see or hear about. But my notebook is never with me when I want it. So I have notes on my phone. That’s usually with me. Now, are there any questions?

Travel Joy, Travel Safety
Travel can be fun, but safety should always be paid attention to.
Last summer vacation, I went on a 3-day trip to a lake town with my parents. We rowed boats on the lake and enjoyed the natural beauty. We also tasted delicious local snacks, which made the trip so enjoyable. However, when my father stood on a stone by the lake, taking photos for my mother and me, he suddenly fell down and hurt his knee because there was no warning sign. Luckily, we got the help of other two kind tourists and finally arrived at the hotel safely.
From this experience, I have three safety tips to share. Firstly, pay attention to the ground conditions, especially near water or steep(陡的) areas. Secondly, carry a small first-aid box during travel. Third, stay calm and ask for help if there's an accident.
Joy comes with travel, but safety comes first. Keep these tips in mind, and your trip will be both fun and safe.

When I was a girl growing up,I cannot once ever remember either my mum or my grandma
wasting food.Anything we didn't eat at one meal was leftovers ()I can remember my
grandma making a huge pot of potatoes. We would all eat until we were full enough, but there
were always about half of the potatoes leftover.A few days later,Grandma would take those
potatoes out of the fridge, boil some noodles, add some vegetables and mix them all together.
And I also remember when I watched my mum fry bacon for us in the morning, she would
always take the oil carefully and pour it into a bottle. Then she would use it later to add flavor to
so many other dishes.I was an adult before I realized that potatoes didn't actually taste like
bacon!
I learned their lessons well, and after I grew up,I tried to never waste food myself.I always
planned the week's meals ahead of time and only bought what was on my shopping list so that
nothing went to waste.Every meal went into our stomachs and any leftovers were later eaten by
either myself,my boys,my husband or,my dogs.To me,throwing food into the bin was just
wrong.

Students pass their, schoolwork through different hands, from their group.leaders to the
class representative(课代表),and finally to the teacher. It might not sound too difficult,.but
sometimes it can go wrong and take a lot of time.
To deal with this problem,Zhang Xirui from Shenzhen Gezhi Academy in Guangdong
came up with a useful tool-a smart homework collection robot. This won him first prize in
the20th Guangdong Provincial Children's Invention Awards.
The robot uses radio frequency identification(RFID射频识别)technology,-a reader and a
special tag (that can share information without touching each other. This way,it can help
find and know what it is looking for. Each student's notebook has a special RFID tag with his or
her name and the subject.Students only need to place their notebooks on the robot, and the
machine "sees"the notebook, reads its tag and takes it out of the name list."Teachers can check
who hasn't turned in homework by connecting their phones with the robot through WiFi",the
13-year-old explained to Shenzhen Satellite TV.
Now,he's planning to develop a third-generation and hopes to use
ultra-high-frequency (radio technology to read lots of RFID tags from far away. That
means if you stick a special tag on your notebook, the robot can read the information from a
thick stack (of notebooks at once.Zhang believes this is the key to how artificial intelligence
can make life easier for us.
Zhang dreams of becoming a scientist when he grows up."I have tried making model
airplanes and other scientific and creative projects.Inventing has brought me joy and happiness,"
he said.
66.What does the underlined word."it"refer to in the first paragraph?

DChinese scientists have made a new and
important photonic chip(光子芯片).It is expected
to help 6G wireless communication develop much
faster. This new technology was created by a team
from Peking University and City University of
Hong Kong,working together.
②What makes this chip special is its ability to cover a very wide frequency range(频率范
)-from 0.5 GHz to 115 GHz.This means one single chip can do the work of several separate
devices. Before,we needed those devices to handle different frequency bands. Also, the chip's
transmission speed can be over 120 gigabits per second. That is fast enough to download'many
high-definition movies in just one second.
3What makes this chip even more amazing is its intelligence. It can automatically find:out
which frequency bands are busy. Then it can switch to the ones that are not being used. This
helps keep the connection more stable and reliable()even in difficult environments.
④The technology uses a special material called lithium niobate(铌酸锂).This material lets
the chip process signals well.At the same time,it reduces power consumption )This new
idea solves a key problem in making 6G systems work in real life.
5This big breakthrough means future 6G networks may.support new and advanced uses.
For example, they can help with remote surgery(doing surgery from far away)and advanced
virtual reality(虚拟现实).They can also make seamless connectivity possible一this means you
can stay connected from the deep sea to outer space without stopping.Right now,the research
team is trying to make the technology smaller. They want to put it into different devices.
6This progress shows that China is getting stronger in next-generation communication
technology. It also brings us one step closer to the 6G era.
71.Which of the following-statements is right?
A.The chip was made by Tsinghua Univ.and Peking Univ.
B.The chip can automatically switch to free frequency bands.
C.The transmission speed of the chip is exactly 120 gigabits per second
D.The new chip is widely used in many fields in China.
72.Why does the author mention "remote surgery"and "connecting the deep sea to outer space"
in the passage?
A.To show the chip has finished all the tests in these scenarios.
B.To explain the broad possible uses of the photonic chip.
C.To prove the chip can only be used in these extreme environments.
英语,第9页
9
D.To explain the chip has the speed to support these complex tasks.
73.What can we know about the research team's next work?
A.They will stop studying the photonic chip and start developing 7G technology.
B.They will change the material of the chip to make it more expensive.
C.They will only use the chip in remote surgery first, not other fields.
D.They may test the miniaturized chip to see if it works well in different devices.
74.What is the authou's attitude towards the new photonic chip technology?
A.Doubtful
B.Uninterested
C.Positive
D.Critical
75.What is the structure of the passage?(P=Paragraph)

classic symbols of Chinese culture.
As for the name itself,it is meaningful. The Chinese character for "knot",jie, means
"connection"or "combination".It makes people think of cultural concepts like marriage,
brotherhood, friendship, unity and reunion ()Meanwhile,the pronunciation of the Chinese
character jie is very close to that of ji,"good luck".So Chinese knots perfectly serve as a way to
express people's strong wishes for good things like joy, love and good luck.
Besides, the knots, widely used in the everyday life of the Chinese, come in different kinds
of sizes.Small ones are connected to jewellery,clothes,gift-wrapping and furniture to attract
people's attention, and large ones are used like fine paintings or photographs to decorate a living
room or study.Whether large or small, there are more than a dozen basic knot patterns ()
named according to their shapes, usages or origins. For example,Double Coin Knots are called
Shuangqianjie because they are in the shape of two ancient Chinese coins, meaning "good things
coming in pairs".However, almost all the main styles of Chinese fancy knots are made up of two
very similar parts, and the patterns on the front and the back sides are also similar in every
detail.
In addition,Chinese knots are well known for their bright colours. Each of the Chinese
knots is made of only one string of cotton, silk, gold or silver. But the colours of the strings are
rich and have various traditional cultural meanings.Among the most commonly used base
colours, red stands for good luck and happiness, green means health and harmony, and yellow,
which was once known as the emperor's colour, may represent wealth and honour.
In a word, the famous Chinese fancy knots fully.show the depth of Chinese culture. These
brightly coloured knots of various patterns, with their endless chains of knots, represent that life
on earth will continue forever.

It's really exciting to be here to talk about my writing. I've been writing stories since I was eight years old. My parents always read to me, and I learned to read myself. When I was four, I started inventing stories to read my friend, and he loved them. Then I sent one into a competition because my teacher suggested IT, I want second Price. And my story appear in a magazine. I was so proud. People lost me where I usually write. I used to write in the library, but these days I write in my study. Another question is about where my ideas for stories come from. Some writers keep a notebook where they write down interesting things they see or hear about. But my notebook is never with me when I wanted. So I have notes on my phone that's usually with me now. Are there any questions? Good afternoon, everyone. I'm jack Brown.
