Mind mapping is a great way to plan out
projects,ideas,and plans.1.
Here are
the four steps of mind mapping and how you
can apply it in your life.
Before you start, think about what it is
that your mind map is about. If we take the
example of presenting to an audience, ask
yourself,"What exactly do I want to tell my
audience?”and“What do I want them to leave
knowing?”2.
Once you know your
question, write that down in the middle of the
page.
3.
Don't try and edit yourself.No
matter how crazy,wild,or stupid something
may seem at first, get it down onto your mind
map.You can remove ideas later.Editing
yourself at an early stage will not produce your
best ideas.
After your initial brainstorm,giving
yourself a few days will produce more ideas and
expand others.A few days later, come back to
your mind map and give yourself another hour
or two with it.4.Meanwhile,you may
also see ideas that don't work-you can leave
them just in case they bring more ideas later.
After this session, you will have a lot of ideas,
answers,and steps.
The next stage is where you make small
changes about these ideas and start to structure
the next steps. You now need to decide in what
order you will move forward.Once you have all
your ideas and points numbered, you can then
move those to your to-do list manager and place
阅读七选五
them in the right order. You may find that as
you begin working on your project, you change
your order round.5.
A.You will find you have a lot more ideas
to add.
B.It encourages you to go deeper with your
ideas.
C.The clearer your question,the better
answers you will get.
D.Once you have your question written down,
let yourself go.
E.Your brain is likely to give you unrealistic or
unclear answers.
F.But you will at least have a place to start by
having an initial order.
G.It gives you a visual means to brainstorm
your ideas and the foundations of a
structure.

What will man be like in the future-in
5,000 or even 50,000 years from now?We can
only make guesses,of course, but we can be
sure that he will be different from what he is
today, for man is slowly changing all the time.
1.
Man,even five hundred years
ago,was shorter than he is today. Now,on
average, men are about three inches taller.Five
hundred years is a relatively short period of
time,so we may assume that man will continue
to grow taller.Again,in the modern world we
use our brains a great deal.Even so,we still
make use of only about 20%of the brain's
capacity.As time goes on,however,we shall
have to use our brains more and more, and
eventually we shall need larger ones! This is
likely to bring about a physical change too:the
head,in particular the forehead,will grow
larger.
2.
In fact,we use them so much
that very often they become weaker and we
have to wear glasses. But over a very long
period of time it is likely that man's eyes will
grow stronger.
On the other hand,we tend to make less
use of our arms and legs.3.
At the
same time,however,our fingers will grow
more sensitive because they are used a great
deal in modern life. But what about hair? This
will probably disappear from the body
altogether in course of time because it does not
serve a useful purpose any longer.4.
Perhaps all this gives the impression that
future man will not be a very attractive creature
to look at!5.
All the same,in spite
of all these changes, future man will still have a
lot in common with us.He will still be a human
being, with thoughts and emotions similar to
our own.
A.This may well be true.
B.Let us take an obvious example.
C.Nowadays our eyes are in constant use.
D.These,as a result,are likely to grow weaker.
E.Now how exactly will this great revolution
occur?
F.In the future, then, both sexes are likely to
be bald.
G.We're all set to get much taller and thinner,
if we want to survive.
c
Are people less or more happy when they
get older?A study in 2018 found that people
generally become happier and experience less
worry after age 50.In fact,it found that by the
age of 85,people are happier with their life
than they were at 18.
Arthur Stone in the Department of
Psychiatry and Behavioral Science at Stony
Brook University in New York led the study.
His team found that levels of stress were the
highest among adults between the ages of 22
and25.1.
Happiness was the highest among the
youngest adults and those in their early 70s.
But the people least likely to report feeling
negative emotions were those in their 70s and
80s.The survey also found that men and
women have similar emotional patterns as they
grow older.2.
The researchers also considered possible
influences like having young children,being
unemployed or being single. But they found
that influences like these did not affect the
levels of happiness and well-being related to age.
3.
One theory is that,as people
get older, they become more thankful for what
they have and have better control of their
emotions. They also spend less time thinking
about bad experiences.
4
In another study,people in
their 80s reported the fewest problems with the
quality of their sleep. The original goal was to
confirm the popular belief that aging is
connected with increased sleep problems.
5.
But except for that,people
reported that they felt their sleep quality
improved as they got older.
A.So why will happiness increase with age?
B.Researchers surveyed more than 150,000
American adults.
C.At that time, the people were between the
ages of 18 and 85.
D.Stress levels dropped sharply after people
reached their 50s.
E.Happiness is not the only thing that
apparently improves with age.
F.The survey did find an increase during
middle age,especially in women.
G.However, women at all ages reported more
sadness,stress and worry than men.

Exercise is a key part of staying healthy,
but figuring out how to get more active can be
tough.1.
Always listen to your body's
limits, and ask your doctor for advice in case of
any medical issues.Importantly,create an
exercise routine.
2.
When you warm up,target
the muscles you plan on exercising, but use
less intense movements.For instance,walk for
5 to 10 minutes before jogging or doing a lower
body workout.
Try to get 30 minutes of aerobic exercise
per day.As a rule of thumb, you should get at
least 30 minutes of moderately intense aerobic
exercise daily.Examples include going for brisk
walks and a jog, running, cycling and swimming.
Include strength training at least 2 days
per week.Strength training involves using free
weights,resistance bands,or your own body
weight to strengthen your muscles.For
starters, try doing upper and lower body
workouts 1 day a week.3.
Mix up your routine to keep things
interesting.4.
That can motivate you
to stay on track.Additionally,switching your
workouts will exercise your entire body and
help prevent injury.
Walk for 5 to 10 minutes and stretch to
cool down.5.
Cool down by walking
for 5 to 10 minutes and stretching the muscles
your workout targets.
A.Adjust your routine to your level.
B.Warm up for 5 to 10 minutes before working
out.
C.If you're not used to physical activity,start
slow.
D.Varying your activities can help keep you
from getting bored.
E.Gradually include 3 to 4 strength training
days in the weekly routine.
F.You can do strength training at home or use
resistance machines at a local gym.
G.You need gentler exercises to ease your body
from working hard to being at rest.

Taking IT and AI to the People
Putting aside employment prospects(就业
前景)and the expectations of my parents, the
major I'd most like to study is computer
science.
1.
First,I have been interested in
computers since I was a child.I like playing
games and drawing and editing pictures using
computer software,so I think that a computer
science major would allow me to build on this
interest.Second,I have found that I turn to the
Internet when I have a problem that people
around me can't help with.It's a goldmine(
库)of answers..
2.
We use the net to shop, chat
with friends who live far away, and book tickets
and hotel rooms when we travel. The net is so
5
wonderfully convenient that I doubt whether
modern life would be possible without it.
If I do study computer science and Internet
technology as my major, after college I want to
develop artificial intelligence products.They
would add convenience to life.3.
They can facilitate our communication so that
society can meet people's demands for higher
living standards.
If I could,I'd even like to develop my own
games.4.
However,it's not easy to qualify for the
world of IT.5.
Nevertheless,I am
going to put in every effort to achieve the high
standard that is required.I firmly believe that
one day my dream will be fulfilled.
A.There are a lot of reasons.
B.The Internet has its disadvantages.
C.I would want to improve the various social
platforms.
D.What's more,nowadays the Internet enters
every aspect of life.
E.This is why some people around me think
that my dream is unrealistic.
F.That's something that would make me really
proud and would add real value to my life.
G.With the Internet, every student is provided
with access to the same educational materials.

It takes so long to organize your room and
each closet, but it only takes a few days for you
to return to your old bad habits.Learning how
to organize something is one thing, but staying
organized is a completely different matter. Here
is some advice for you to follow through.
Set deadlines for yourself.1.
Therefore,you have to set deadlines.For
example,if you have a lot of tasks to finish, you
need to set deadlines for each task. This way
can urge you to finish all the tasks in an
organized way.
2.
One of the reasons why you
may be struggling to stay organized is that you
spend too much time on one task and then leave
no time for other things you have to do on a
day.Instead of making sure that you do Task A
perfectly, make sure that you do a great job of
it.3.
Reward yourself for tasks you've
accomplished. If you want to continue to follow
through on staying organized, don't just do one
task and move on.4.
If you never stop
to let yourself know what a great job you're
doing,or take a break from time to time, then
you're likely to feel stressed out and refuse to
stay organized.
5.
Wanting to stay organized
doesn't mean that you have to do everything
alone. If you want to clean your household, you
should make sure that anyone else sharing the
space with you also does their share of tasks;if
you want to keep things running smoothly at
work,take responsibilities together with your
colleagues.
A.Avoid perfection.
B.Turn to others for advice.
C.Cooperate as much as you can.
D.Then give yourself enough time to move on.
E.You should reward yourself for saving much
time.
F.Instead, give yourself a treat that delights
you most.
G.To stay organized, you need to get things
done on time.

Superfoods are things you eat that do more
than satisfy your hunger because they help your
body work better and be better.Think of your
body as a car.1.
Our bodies are just
the same.
Eating superfoods can change your life in
many ways.2.
One reason for this is
that many superfoods are naturally low in
calories.Another reason is that sticking to
eating them is very easy.
With most diets,people concentrate on
what shouldn't be eaten.With superfoods,they
focus on all the great things they can eat.
3.
Eating superfoods over time helps
keep you looking young, fights heart disease
and cures Type II diabetes and some cancers.
¥
While many are low in
calories,some,such as whole grains,are still
high in them.Eating just superfoods won't
make you instantly healthier.
Instead, getting a wide variety of foods,
superfoods included, and doing your best to
make healthy choices is the better solution.
Besides, with all the energy that is packed
in superfoods, you will be ready for any
challenge that awaits you.If you want to start
adding superfoods to your diet,do it at your
own pace.5.
A.However, you should not eat just superfoods.
B.Taking one small step makes it easier to take
the next.
C.That is very true because you are eating
energy-filled food.
D.The better the gas you put in your car,the
better it will run.
E.There are other benefits to adding them to
your diet as well.
F.Lastly,whether superfoods benefit your
health remains to be seen.
G.Not surprisingly,people who start eating
them lose weight quickly.

Are leaders born or made? Many leaders
throughout history-such as Gandhi,Churchill,
Napoleon,and Martin Luther King-seem to
have a special quality that made them powerful
and persuasive. We can identify that quality as
charisma,but can we explain it?
Charisma means a natural ability to attract
other people and make them admire you.It is a
complex mixture of social and emotional(情感
的)skills.1.
Richard Wiseman,a
famous psychologist, points out that there are
three key qualities of a charismatic person:
They feel their own emotions strongly;they
inspire strong emotions in other people;and
they are unaffected by the influences of other
charismatic people.
You needn't worry if you don't have these
qualities.2.Wiseman says that when
you come upon someone who is charismatic,
you can copy his or her body language and
facial expressions without realizing it.This is
called mirroring, and it works partly because
people's behavior influences their emotions.
3
He proves his point by giving the
example of smiling back at someone who smiled
at you.Your smiling back suggests that you
accept the goodwill from the other person and
hope to give it back to him or her.
4.
For example,if you stand up
straight and raise your chest, you are more
likely to feel confident and inspire others to feel
confidence in you.Another expert says that the
most charismatic people are usually good
listeners. They give others the impression of
being focused and modest.
Charisma plays a large part in success
because it is linked to self-confidence.
5.
One successful leadership coach points out
that you need to come by your skills and
techniques naturally,she warns-if the
personality you project is not real, you may
come across as insincere.
A.This type of physical presence can be used to
great effect.
B.Today there is growing evidence that
charisma can be learned.
C.Charismatic persons should be active and
sensitive to their surroundings.
D.It needs to be recognized that charisma is
more than just being optimistic.
E.It helps to make strong personal connections
and communicate effectively with others.
F.But it is worth noting that charisma can't be
a pretended ability although it can be learned.
G.He adds you're unaware of picking up
others'gestures, but you know it makes you
feel good.

Choosing the right career can be hard.
Many people graduate from school or college
not knowing what to do with their lives, and get
a job without really thinking about it.For
some,things work out fine.1.
Your
working life lasts an average of forty years,so
it's important to find a job you like and feel
enthusiastic about it.Luckily,there are many
ways you can get help to do this.
The Australian website,www.
careersonline.com,compares choosing a career
with going to the movies. Before you see a
movie, you find out what films are showing.
3
-find out what jobs are available
and what your options are.Next, decide which
movie you like best;if you're not a romantic
person,you won't want to see a love story.In
other words,with your career,you should
decide which job will suit your personality.
3.
Meanwhile,you should find out
where the theater is before you go.With your
career, you need to find information about
where you can work, how much you will earn,
and how to get a job in that profession.
So,how do you start?Begin by asking
yourself some questions.4.
Have you
traveled overseas?Do you have any extra
certificates besides your degree, such as a first
aid license?Your physical state and build can
also affect which jobs you can do.A person, for
example, who is allergic to cats would probably
never become a veterinarian.Flight attendants,
firefighters, and police officers have to be over a
certain height,and be physically fit.5.
Are you outgoing and extroverted,or shy and
introverted? If you like working alone,a job
that requires lots of teamwork might not
suit you.
A.Your personality matters,too.
B.Finally, decide how to get movie tickets.
C.The site suggests you do the same with your
career.
D.Choosing a career can take time and a lot of
thought.
E.Some jobs require you to have certain life
experiences.
F.But others often find themselves stuck in a
job they hate.
G.When you know you can work in your dream
