Among all the precious memories of high school, I especially want to thank my English teacher, Ms. Wang. She never gave up on me when I struggled with speaking. Every lunch break, she patiently guided me through pronunciation drills and encouraged me to join class debates. Her belief in me turned my fear into confidence. This gratitude isn’t just about the past. It taught me that kindness and perseverance can change lives. As I step into the future, I’ll carry her lesson: to lift others up when they stumble, just as she lifted me. Thank you, Ms. Wang, and thank you all for three unforgettable years. Engaging in activities that make people with severe depression feel good may seem like overly simplistic advice. But the science behind this idea, called “behavioral activation”, is well established. Multiple studies have found that encouraging people to get outside or socialize can help ease the symptoms of depression. Now, researchers have discovered that engaging in enjoyable activities with a virtual reality system may be as effective in treating depression as taking depression patients out in the real world. And for those depressed to a level that makes leaving the house a challenge, it could provide the benefits of getting outside. A study by the team followed twenty-six people with major depressive disorder. Thirteen people were assigned traditional behavioral activation, engaging with real life activities by going on outings in their community or socializing with friends. The other thirteen people received a VR headset to participate in activities ranging from playing table tennis to touring foreign cities. After four weeks, both groups saw a significant decrease in their symptoms of depression and their depression ratings. Moreover, many people who had used the VR devices said the virtual activities had helped push them to get out of the house and be more involved in in-person activities. A researcher said, “These virtual activities got their motors running just enough to get out of bed.” The only negative feedback is learning how to set up the device, as well as the need for alerts or reminders to keep people accountable for engaging in the behavioral activation. The researchers have since developed a companion VR behavioral activation app that helps address some of these concerns. The team says larger and longer-term studies are needed to find the best ways to administer virtual behavioral activation, as well as which patient populations might be best targeted with the VR treatment. They also think more efforts are needed to inform clinicians about how to prescribe VR behavioral activation appropriately. They believe the cost and ease of many VR platforms make it an easy treatment to scale up. 41.Which of the following is the best example of “behavioral activation” for people with depression? A.Watching a cooking show on TV at home. B.Reading mystery novels alone in the study. C.Participating in a local charity event with others. D.Playing single player video games on a computer. 42.How did the team conduct the study? A.By interviewing the patients in hospital. B.By keeping track of two groups’ transformations. C.By using VR to simulate the patients’ conditions. D.By comparing VR therapy with medicine treatment. 43.What does the team think of the VR treatment? A.Complex. B.Effective. C.Secure. D.Exceptional. 44.What specific aspect do the researchers plan to further explore regarding VR treatment? A.The suitable strategies for applying VR treatment. B.The acceptance of the VR treatment for patients. C.The development of a VR behavioral activation app. D.The cost of popularizing VR platforms. 45.According to the passage, which of the following can be inferred? A.VR treatment is already the mainstream in clinics. B.The VR app will soon replace face-to-face-therapy. C.Traditional activation has outperformed VR activation. D.VR success may boost non-traditional therapy research C An AI from Google DeepMind has achieved a silver medal score at this year’s International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO), the first time any AI has made it to the podium (领奖台). The IMO is considered the world’s most famous competition for young mathematicians. In January, Google DeepMind demonstrated AlphaGeometry, an AI system that could answer some IMO geometry questions as well as humans. However, this was not from a live competition, and it couldn’t answer questions from other mathematical disciplines. Google DeepMind has now released a new AI, called AlphaProof, which can solve a wider range of mathematical problems. It is an improved version of AlphaGeometry that can solve more geometry questions. When the team tested both systems together on this year’s IMO questions, they answered four out of six questions correctly, giving them a score of 28 out of a possible 42 points. This was enough to win a silver medal and just one point under this year’s gold medal threshold (门槛). At the contest in Bath, UK, 58 competitors won a gold medal and 123 won a silver medal. “We are all very much aware that AI will eventually be better than humans at solving most mathematical problems, but the rate at which AI is improving is breathtaking,” says Gregor Dolinar, the IMO president. “Missing the gold medal at IMO 2024 by just one point a few days ago is truly impressive.” While AlphaProof’s performance is impressive, it works slowly, taking up to three days to find some solutions instead of the 4. 5 hours per three questions that competitors are allowed. It also failed to answer both questions on combinatorics, which is the study of counting and arranging numbers. “We are still working to understand why this is, which will hopefully lead us to improve the system,” says Alex Davies at Google DeepMind. 46.What do we know about AlphaProof in paragraph 3? A.Its all functions. B.Its potential clients. C.Its advantages over AlphaGeometry. D.Its abilities to analyse problems. 47.What can be learned about this year’s International Mathematical Olympiad? A.It took place in Bath, UK. B.There were 10 questions in the contest. C.181 competitors took part in the contest. D.This year’s gold medal threshold was 30 points. 48.What is one of the limitations of AlphaProof? A.It can only solve geometry-related problems. B.It is much slower than human competitors in answering questions. C.It has difficulty in understanding the basic concepts of mathematics. D.It requires a large amount of computing resources to function 49.What may be Alex Davies’ attitude to the development of AlphaProof? A.Neutral. B.Uncaring. C.Disapproving. D.Positive. 50.What’s the best title of the text? A.DeepMind AI Gets Silver Medal at IMO 2024 B.DeepMind AI Is Developed to Take Part in IMO 2024 C.AI Manages to Solve Difficult Mathematical Problems Well D.AI Will Be Better than Humans at Solving Mathematical Problems D My life experience is anything but ordinary. Raised by my hardworking single mother on Australia's Gold Coast, I was encouraged to pursue higher education. Though I ranked top academically, my passion was cooking, a path my mother hesitated to support due to its challenges. To please her, I attended university while working part-time as a chef. However, my love for the kitchen soon surpassed my studies, and I dropped out to pursue cooking full-time. Over the next 12 years, I climbed the ranks as a chef, landing head chef positions in North Queensland. Life seemed perfect — I was engaged, had great friends and enjoyed stability. Yet, a lingering restlessness (挥之不去的焦躁感) grew within me. A trip to Bali became a turning point. I realized I desired something beyond conventional (守旧) existence. Despite guilt, I walked away from my settled life, returning to my mother's home on the Gold Coast. Soon, I fell back into old patterns — working in kitchens and feeling unfulfilled. Then, Instagram changed everything. As an early user, I poured my creativity into the platform, discovering a talent for photography and storytelling. By 2012, my audience grew to 200,000 followers, and tourism boards began reaching out. Recognizing the opportunity, I quit my job to pursue travel photography and social media full-time. The early days were tough. I created a “solo influencer package”, offering brands social media content, photography and campaign reports. As a pioneer in Australia's influencer market, my services became highly popular. I traveled on and on-50 trips a year at my peak-while expanding into consulting, public speaking, and project management. Now, I run a multifaceted (多层面) business, including photography, social media, and travel. I co-founded the Travel Bootcamp, teaching others to build careers in the industry, and launched an online photography course for beginners. Next year, I'll lead my first photography tour in Zimbabwe, my wife's homeland, combining my passions with conservation and community support. My journey has been challenging yet deeply fulfilling. Money is no longer the main driver — instead, I seek meaningful experiences and opportunities to inspire others. What began as a small idea has grown into a life of adventure, creativity and purpose. 51.What does the underlined word “surpassed” in paragraph 1 mean? A.Went beyond. B.Broke up. C.Continued. D.Improved. 52.Why did the author quit his job in North Queensland? A.He wanted to make a trip to Bali. B.He didn't enjoy working in the kitchen. C.He was eager to experience more in life. D.He preferred to live a conventional life. 53.How did the author's mother treat his choice of career? A.She eventually accepted her son's choice of career. B.She never supported her son's interest in cooking. C.She encouraged him to continue his university studies. D.She was the reason why he gave up his job in Queensland. 54.What is the main idea of paragraph 4? A.Why Instagram changed the author's mindset. B.Why followers liked to read the author's posts. C.How Internet benefited millions of online users. D.How the author started a career as a solo influencer. 55.What message does the text convey? A.Big results require big ambitions. B.The future is built on great ideas. C.Bravery never goes out of fashion. D.Your heart is the birthplace of dreams. 第二部分:写作(共两节,满分35分) 第一节:阅读表达(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分) 阅读短文,并按照题目要求用英语回答问题。 Kobe Bryant wasn't the first NBA player to visit China. But he was the first player to help China grow into a basketball-crazed nation. Kobe's first visit was in 1998, and in conducting basketball clinics (篮球训练营),doing business and participating in charity, he was warmly welcomed in the basketball-loving country. Once, nearly 15,000 people showed up at 9 am for an event at which Kobe was scheduled to appear at 4 pm. USA Basketball chairman Jerry Colangelo saw firsthand Kobe's popularity during Kobe's time with Team USA at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, when as captain he led the team to a gold medal. "There were tens of thousands of people on the streets, yelling, 'Kobe! Kobe!' It was unbelievable, just unbelievable," Colangelo said. "It's harder for me to walk around here than in the United States," Kobe once told reporters in China in 2013. “It's uncontrollable. Fans rush you and surround you, and it gets to the point where you can't go out." His last visit was in August last year for the 2019 FIBA World Cup. He told reporters, “I watched the country develop from the ground up. I watched Beijing grow. I watched the passion for the game develop. My goal is to develop the country's basketball to a level where they can compete with the best basketball countries in the world,", Kobe said. Kobe was and perhaps remains China's favourite NBA player, and fans in the country were shocked by his death in a helicopter crash in January this year. Tencent, the NBA's digital partner in China, posted a memorial page that drew more than five million visitors in less than five days. Just two days before Kobe died, he posted a short video on the Chinese micro-blogging site Weibo, wishing Chinese fans a happy new year. D.VR success may boost non-traditional therapy research 【答案】41.C 42.B 43.B 44.A 45.D 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。文章介绍了虚拟现实技术可能为治疗重度抑郁症患者带来新的希望。 41.推理判断题。根据第二段“But the science behind this idea, called ‘behavioral activation’, is well established. A.DeepMind AI Gets Silver Medal at IMO 2024 B.DeepMind AI Is Developed to Take Part in IMO 2024 C.AI Manages to Solve Difficult Mathematical Problems Well D.AI Will Be Better than Humans at Solving Mathematical Problems 【答案】46.C 47.A 48.B 49.D 50.A 【导语】本文是一篇新文报道。文章报道了谷歌DeepMind研发的人工智能AlphaProof在2024年国际数学奥林匹克竞赛中获得银牌,还阐述了其优势、局限性等情况。 46.细节理解题。根据第三段中“Google DeepMind has now released a new AI, called AlphaProof, which can solve a wider range of mathematical problems.
